Dolphins | Good day for Ryan Tannehill Mon Dec 9, 02:35 AM
Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill's 48-yard run late in the first quarter was the longest of his career and the longest ever by a Dolphins quarterback, surpassing the 33-yard run by Pat White at New England on November 8th, 2009. His previous long was 31 yards on December 23rd, 2012 against the Buffalo Bills. Tannehill also put together the ninth multi-touchdown pass game of his career and it's the third time he has done it in consecutive weeks.
Footballguys view: Tannehill is getting better protection, and he's producing better numbers because of it. The Dolphins have one of the best young quarterbacks in the game today. Tannehill needs to continue to develop his skill set if he wants to reach his full potential. |

Redskins | Keeping 4 QBs for now Sat Aug 31, 04:56 PM
The Washington Redskins are keeping QBs Robert Griffin III, Kirk Cousins, Rex Grossman and Pat White on their active roster for now.
Footballguys view: White is the interesting player of note here. He failed his first time around in the NFL after the Dolphins selected him in the second-round of the 2009 NFL draft. White is athletic and does a good job running the Redskins' pistol offense. He's still deliberate as a passer and his accuracy runs hot and cold. |

Redskins | Pat White to play entire game Tue Aug 27, 03:08 PM
Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan said QB Pat White will play the team's entire game Thursday, Aug. 29, unless he gets hurt. Rex Grossman would be next in line if White could not finish the game.
Footballguys view: White has looked good running the Pistol offense for the Redskins. He's an effort thrower who tries to be as decisive as possible. Kyle Shanahan is doing a good job of managing the reads for White and giving him a couple of quick options to throw to after the snap. White is athletic enough to make defenders miss as a scrambler and because of this he can freeze defenders on the option play. |

Redskins | Rex Grossman, Pat White expected to share snaps Thu Aug 22, 10:20 PM
Washington Redskins QBs Rex Grossman and Pat White are expected to share snaps fairly evenly during the team's third preseason game because QB Kirk Cousins (foot) likely will not play in the game.
Footballguys view: We should see Cousins and starter Robert Griffin III both ready for the start of the regular season. Grossman is the veteran with a ton of experience in the Kyle Shanahan system. White is trying to make a comeback after being out of football since 2010. |

Redskins | Pat White willing to do whatever it takes Sun Jul 7, 11:48 PM
Washington Redskins QB Pat White is attempting to make the team's 53-man roster, three years since his release by the Miami Dolphins before the 2010 season. White is hopeful of continuing his career as a quarterback, but if asked to switch positions, he said he would do anything to help make the team better. 'Whatever the coaches ask of me, I will do it with the best of my abilities,' White said. 'My heart's set on being a quarterback, but I am willing to play other positions and will do whatever it takes to help the team.'
Footballguys view: White was a second-round pick for the Dolphins in 2009 and thought by some to be the 'perfect Wildcat QB.' Instead, he was out of the league in 2010 and has been working to get back since then. He's incredibly athletic but struggles with accuracy and decision making as a passer. |

Redskins | Pat White to visit Tue Apr 2, 03:21 PM
The Washington Redskins are scheduled to get a visit from free agent QB Pat White (Dolphins) Wednesday, April. 3. It is very likely that White will sign with the Redskins.
Footballguys view: White is trying to make a comeback after falling out of the league. He was a second-round pick by the Dolphins in 2009 but was cut from the team in early September 2010. Some felt he was the perfect Wildcat QB but struggled to make plays at the pro level. He could give the Redskins an athletic QB to run a subpackage in case starter Robert Griffin III missed time due to injury. |

Giants | Pat White to work out Fri Mar 29, 09:22 AM
Free-agent QB Pat White (Dolphins) will work out for the New York Giants early next week.
Footballguys view: White is getting enough interest that deep dynasty leaguers should be monitoring his situation. As a running quarterback, he has a high upside if he ever gets on the field at that position. He was also an outstanding enough athlete to be dangerous at a RB/WR hybrid position. |

The San Francisco 49ers worked out free-agent QB Pat White (Dolphins) Thursday, Mar. 28. White was throwing passes with head coach Jim Harbaugh.
Footballguys view: The 49ers are looking for an athletic backup behind starter Colin Kaepernick. White busted in the league after being a second-round pick in the 2009 NFL Draft. The Dolphins cut him after training camp in 2010 and he's been out of the league since then. He's trying to make a comeback and could be an option for the 49ers. |

Dolphins | Bill Parcells regrets passing on Matt Ryan Tue Apr 12, 04:21 PM
Former Miami Dolphins team official Bill Parcells said he regrets drafting OT Jake Long over Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan with the first overall pick in 2008, according to NFL.com. 'Maybe, we should have (drafted Ryan instead),' Parcells, the Dolphins' former executive vice president of football operations, said. He also said the decision to draft former QB Pat White in the second round of the 2009 draft 'violated our principles.'
Footballguys view: The Dolphins feel violated after seeing how Matt Ryan's career has turned out. Jake Long is a good but not elite level player, while Ryan is one of the best young quarterbacks in the NFL. Miami is still in search of a franchise quarterback and may consider drafting someone like Jake Locker or Ryan Mallett with the 15th overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft. |

Unrestricted free-agent QB Pat White (Dolphins) have signed a deal with MLB's Kansas City Royals, reports Jon Paul Morosi, of FOXSports.com. The Royals said they understand that the NFL is still an option for White.

Miami Dolphins head coach Tony Sparano indicated that QB Pat White is not expected to receive any playing time in the team's preseason game Friday, Aug. 27, reports Armando Salguero, of The Miami Herald.
Footballguys view: White may be in danger of losing his spot on the roster, as the Dolphins are unlikely to keep four quarterbacks. It appears Miami Dolphins backup QB Pat White won't make it on the team's final roster this year, reports Armando Salguero, of The Miami Herald. Unless the team trades one of their other three quarterbacks, White's days in Miami appear numbered.
Footballguys view: The team has already stated there is no position switch in the future for White, so he has to impress as a quarterback if he wants to make the final roster. |

Dolphins | No position change for Pat White Tue Aug 17, 11:51 AM
The Miami Dolphins are not contemplating moving QB Pat White to another position, according to Aaron Wilson, of NationalFootballPost.com. White received just three snaps in the team's first preseason game. 'I'm not getting any closer to wanting to try him any place other than the one he's in right now,' head coach Tony Sparano said. 'From my end, I've seen improvement in the last week, clear improvement in the last week out of Pat throwing the football. From that part of it, I have no other agenda other than to try to continue to develop this player as a quarterback on our team and to see him make the same kind of improvement this week that he made last week.'
Footballguys view: Pat White didn't look very good as a rookie Wildcat quarterback last year, but the Dolphins are hopeful that he can develop on his raw athleticism. White is battling veteran Chad Pennington for the third quarterback spot behind Chad Henne and Tyler Thigpen. |

Dolphins | Not considering using Pat White at different position Mon Aug 16, 01:23 PM
Miami Dolphins head coach Tony Sparano said the team has not consider moving QB Pat White to another position and is looking to continue his development as a quarterback, reports The Miami Herald's Armando Salguero. 'From my end, I've seen improvement in the last week -- clear improvement in the last week -- out of Pat throwing the football. So that part of it, I have no other agenda than to try to continue to develop that player as a quarterback on our team and see him make the same kind of improvement this week that he made last week,' Sparano said.
Footballguys view: Pat White looked bad last year as a rookie, even as a subpackage 'Wildcat' quarterback. He'll have to play much better this preseason if he wants to make the final roster. |

Dolphins | Battle for backup quarterback duties Sat Jul 24, 03:53 PM
Miami Dolphins QBs Tyler Thigpen and Pat White will compete during training camp for the team's No. 2 quarterback duties, reports Omar Kelly, of The Sun-Sentinel. White had problems with his accuracy last year, but coaches have noted they have seen improvement during the offseason. The coaches want Thigpen to become a more traditional pocket passer during training camp, and his experience may give him the edge over White for the No. 2 role.
Footballguys view: Pat White has reportedly made improvements from last year (when he looked horrible) but this battle isn't that close in our eyes. Thigpen is an athletic quarterback who gets by on moxie, toughness, and grit. He knows how to run the offense, and looks more comfortable in the pocket than Pat White. |

Dolphins | Pat White most improved player? Mon Jun 28, 10:26 AM
Miami Dolphins RB Ricky Williams said QB Pat White has been the team's most improved player during offseason practices, according to Barry Jackson, of the Miami Herald. Williams says there is 'no doubt' that White is the Dolphins' most improved player. Williams added, 'He's a quarterback now.'
Footballguys view: White could be on the roster bubble this year, as we think it's doubtful the Dolphins carry four quarterbacks. They could put veteran Chad Pennington on the PUP list to start the season, which could save White's job for the time being. Pat White was supposed to be the 'perfect' Wildcat quarterback when he came out of West Virginia, but failed to impress as a rookie last season. He's currently behind Chad Henne, Tyler Thigpen, and Chad Pennington on the depth chart. |

Dolphins | No rush to decide fate of QBs Wed Jun 23, 06:23 PM
Barry Jackson, from the Miami Herald, reports Chad Pennington, back from shoulder surgery, has said he will be ready for the season. But if he opened the regular season on the physically-unable-to-perform list (out at least six weeks), that would give Miami more time to make a decision while continuing to evaluate White on gimmick plays and otherwise. And though Miami prefers to keep Tyler Thigpen, he would have value in a trade if another team's quarterback gets injured. So the Dolphins are in no rush to decide.
Footballguys view: Tyler Thigpen would be a great fit in Buffalo where he could be reunited with his old offensive coordinator from Kansas City, Chan Gailey. The Dolphins may not want to upgrade a division rival with a trade, but could move Thigpen if the price is right. |

Dolphins | Pat White has improved, still may be on the bubble Wed Jun 23, 06:21 PM
Barry Jackson, from the Miami Herald, reports the Dolphins believe Pat White has improved and would love to make it work with his Wildcat package. But they also know he's their fourth-best quarterback, and there has been debate internally about the wisdom of keeping four on the 53-man roster.
Footballguys view: Pat White was supposed to be the 'perfect' Wildcat QB, but failed to impress as a passer or a runner last year. We'll see if he can change his fate with improved play in the preseason this year. |

Dolphins | Tony Sparano says Pat White has added weight Sat May 29, 04:46 PM
Miami Dolphins head coach Tony Sparano said QB Pat White has added 18 pounds since joining the team as a rookie and has lost some body fat, reports Omar Kelly, of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.
Footballguys view: White has always been a slender player, and is most certainly on the roster bubble in Miami. The added weight may help his durability but there's concern of him losing some of his athletic ability because he's heavier. White will have to prove that he can be a more polished passer, and he may have to play a little wide receiver if he wants to stay on the team. |

Dolphins | Chad Pennington said Pat White has improved accuracy Sun May 16, 06:43 PM
Miami Dolphins QB Chad Pennington said QB Pat White has improved his accuracy this offseason and said White has the tools to be a quarterback but needs to put it all together, reports Barry Jackson, of the Miami Herald.
Footballguys view: Pat White may actually be on the roster bubble this season with the logjam of quarterbacks the Dolphins have. Chad Pennington is the savvy veteran and is expected to win the third-string job behind starter Chad Henne and backup Tyler Thigpen. White may have to switch positions in order to keep his roster spot in 2010. |

Dolphins | Pat White needs to improve as a quarterback Wed May 12, 03:38 AM
Omar Kelly, of the Sun-Sentinel.com, reports Miami Dolphins QB Pat White needs to show the Dolphins' coaching staff that he can serve as an NFL-caliber quarterback this offseason.
Footballguys view: Pat White was supposed to be the "perfect" Wildcat quarterback coming out of West Virginia, but looked lost whenever he got onto the field during his rookie season. We'll see if he can make better decisions with the football and become more comfortable on the field in 2010. |

Dolphins | May look to move Pat White to WR Tue May 4, 05:14 PM
Brian Biggane, of the Palm Beach Post, reports the Miami Dolphins could consider moving QB Pat White to wide receiver if he does not show improvement in his passing accuracy this season.
Footballguys view: Once thought of as the "perfect" Wildcat quarterback Pat White has struggled in practice and on the playing field. He's very athletic, but may have to make the roster as a wide receiver. If White stays as a quarterback then he will have to beat out Tyler Thigpen for a job behind starter Chad Henne and backup Chad Pennington. |

Dolphins | Thigpen likely to be dealt? Mon Apr 12, 11:20 AM
Pro Football Weekly reports, according to sources, the Miami Dolphins are not expected to head into the 2010 season with four quarterbacks on the roster. With QB Chad Henne firmly entrenched as the starter, QBs Tyler Thigpen, Chad Pennington and Pat White are the candidates to be moved. Thigpen appears to be the most likely to be traded, and the Dolphins would like to move him before the NFL Draft. However, teams in need of a backup could wait until closer to training camp to make a swap to fill that hole, and there's a good chance the Dolphins will have to wait a bit longer to find a suitor.
Footballguys view: Tyler Thigpen would be a threat to Pat White's job if both were to stay with the team through training camp. Now that Chad Pennington is staying in Miami it created a logjam of quarterbacks behind starter Chad Henne. Thigpen had good success in Kansas City under current Bills head coach Chan Gailey, so the Buffalo is a possible landing spot for the crafty quarterback. |

At this stage, Pennington said, he's not certain if he will play again. He might not make that decision until March. However, regardless of what that decision is, the chances of Pennington playing for the Dolphins again are quite slim. The team has a starting quarterback in QB Chad Henne. Dolphins | Sparano expresses confidence in P. White Thu Oct 22, 08:18 PM
Tim Graham, of ESPN.com, reports Miami Dolphins head coach Tony Sparano would not clarify the quarterback depth chart Wednesday, Oct. 21, but he did express confidence in QB Pat White's abilities to step in if necessary. Sparano said, "He is ready. He has done a good job. In the last couple of weeks, with Pat getting a lot of the work, I have been really impressed with what he has done from a mental standpoint right now, how he has gotten through some progression stuff."
Footballguys view: Tyler Thigpen is the Dolphins third-string quarterback, but perhaps could leapfrog White on the depth chart if Henne goes down because of his experience as a starting quarterback. |

Dolphins | Henne takes over as starting quarterback Mon Sep 28, 03:20 PM
Chris Mortensen, of ESPN, reports Miami Dolphins QB Chad Henne will take over as the team's starting quarterback. Rookie QB Pat White will serve as the team's No. 2 quarterback, and they plan to look at other options to fill their No. 3 quarterback role.
Footballguys view: Henne has a very strong arm, and we may see the Dolphins try more vertical passes because of it. He had an up and down career at Michigan, but had good zip and accuracy on his short and intermediate passes when he used proper technique. Because of his size he is hard to bring down, and does a good job of staying calm in the pocket. He has enough athleticism to move around and throw on the run if need be. Henne gets a little too much air under his long passes, thus they hang too long and are easier to pick off. |
