Dolphins | Pennington injury update Wed Nov 18, 12:39 PM
Armando Salguero, of the Miami Herald, reports Miami Dolphins QB Chad Pennington (shoulder) said Tuesday, Nov. 17, he has completed the first phase of his rehabilitation from season-ending shoulder surgery and now must map out a recovery program for the next six weeks. At this stage, Pennington said, he's not certain if he will play again. He might not make that decision until March. However, regardless of what that decision is, the chances of Pennington playing for the Dolphins again are quite slim. The team has a starting quarterback in QB Chad Henne. They have committed time and resources on making backup QB Pat White a success. They also have QB Tyler Thigpen under contract.

Dolphins | White's accuracy improving Thu Nov 5, 04:26 PM
Barry Jackson, of the Miami Herald, reports Miami Dolphins quarterbacks coach David Lee has tweaked QB Pat White's delivery, which has help his throwing accuracy. The Dolphins still have faith that White can be a change-of-pace quarterback.

Dolphins | Sparano expresses confidence in P. White Thu Oct 22, 08:18 PM
Tim Graham, of ESPN.com, reports Miami Dolphins head coach Tony Sparano would not clarify the quarterback depth chart Wednesday, Oct. 21, but he did express confidence in QB Pat White's abilities to step in if necessary. Sparano said, "He is ready. He has done a good job. In the last couple of weeks, with Pat getting a lot of the work, I have been really impressed with what he has done from a mental standpoint right now, how he has gotten through some progression stuff."
| Our view: Tyler Thigpen is the Dolphins third-string quarterback, but perhaps could leapfrog White on the depth chart if Henne goes down because of his experience as a starting quarterback. |

Dolphins | Henne takes over as starting quarterback Mon Sep 28, 03:20 PM
Chris Mortensen, of ESPN, reports Miami Dolphins QB Chad Henne will take over as the team's starting quarterback. Rookie QB Pat White will serve as the team's No. 2 quarterback, and they plan to look at other options to fill their No. 3 quarterback role.
| Our view: Henne has a very strong arm, and we may see the Dolphins try more vertical passes because of it. He had an up and down career at Michigan, but had good zip and accuracy on his short and intermediate passes when he used proper technique. Because of his size he is hard to bring down, and does a good job of staying calm in the pocket. He has enough athleticism to move around and throw on the run if need be. Henne gets a little too much air under his long passes, thus they hang too long and are easier to pick off. |

Dolphins | P. White active Week 1 Sun Sep 13, 10:21 PM
Edgar Thompson, of the Palm Beach Post, reports Miami Dolphins QB Pat White was on the active roster for Week 1 and QB Chad Henne was the No. 3 quarterback. White entered the game in a spread formation and ran around the left end, but he did not gain any yards on the play.

Dolphins | White's role for Week 1 uncertain Fri Sep 11, 11:24 AM
Adam Beasley, of the Miami Herald, reports the Miami Dolphins have not discussed how QB Pat White will be used in the team's Week 1 game. There is a chance he will not be active for the game. Offensive coordinator Dan Henning did say the team is convinced White could run the base offense if needed.
| Our view: White may not make the 45-man active gameday roster, as he is the Dolphins third-string quarterback. |

Dolphins | White to be second QB to play Saturday Sat Aug 22, 06:50 PM

Dolphins | White given extra playing time Sun Aug 9, 12:24 PM
Kevin Clark, of The South Florida Sun-Sentinel, reports Miami Dolphins rookie QB Pat White saw substantial playing time Saturday, Aug. 8, in the team's scrimmage. He took 34 snaps, and hit 11 of 19 passes for 108 yards and two touchdowns.
| Our view: White was asked to rate his performance afterwards, but declined. As we've seen with White, he may not be the best practice player, but in gametime situations he knows how to make the most of it. The Dolphins are likely to give him extended playing time later in the preseason, but he's a longshot to unseat Chad Henne as the number two quarterback. |

Dolphins | P. White erratic Wednesday Wed Aug 5, 08:54 PM
Armando Salguero, of The Miami Herald, reports Miami Dolphins QB Pat White was erratic Wednesday, Aug. 5, as he overthrew WR Anthony Armstrong on an easy sideline pass and had a pass intercepted on another attempt to Armstrong.
| Our view: We think Pat White is just not a good practice player. We got to see him up close and in person down in Mobile during the Senior Bowl practices and he looked lost on the practice field the first three days. However, when the lights came on and it was game time he ended up winning the game's MVP. He's going to be the third-string quarterback behind Chad Henne, but he may get onto the field when the Dolphins decide to run their "Wildcat" offense. Fans need to get used to the idea that White may never be more than a gadget quarterback and number two at best. |

Dolphins | White to add passing element to the Wildcat Fri Jul 31, 07:48 PM
Omar Kelly, from the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, notes the hope is White can add a passing element to the Wildcat and be able to help the Dolphins implement a spread scheme that works in the NFL.
| Our view: Pat White struggled in minicamps as a passer, but we've seen White struggle in practice before (at the Senior Bowl) only to be the MVP when it's game time. Touch passes are not his forte, and White's release is not traditional but he was an accurate passer (63.8 career completion percentage) and a dangerous runner (6.6 YPC) at West Virginia. The Dolphins unleashed the Wildcat on the league in 2008, and should have many more wrinkles in that part of their game this season. |

Dolphins | White's overthrows in minicamp raised concerns Wed Jul 15, 06:45 PM
Barry Jackson, from the Miami Herald, notes Pat White's overthrows in May and June raised concerns - even White said when he watched tape of himself, it didn't look like him. But remember he is learning to play under center (he was primarily in the shotgun at West Virginia). And he completed an excellent 66 percent of his passes in his last three years in college.
| Our view: NFL Network's Mike Mayock called White the "perfect" Wildcat quarterback, but he does have a lot of work to do when playing from under center. He has little chance of beating out Chad Henne for the #2 job behind Chad Pennington, but could see the field as a gadget player in his rookie season. He's as fast as he needs to be, but in order to be a full time quarterback you must be more accurate and White knows that. "You want every ball to be on the money, but it doesn't work that way," White said, blaming his inaccuracy on "body position, my feet being wide." |

Dolphins | Not a lot of talk with first three picks Sat Jun 27, 04:20 PM
Mike Berardino, of the South Florida SunSentinel, reports the Miami Dolphins have not started serious contract talks with first-round draft choice CB Vontae Davis or second-round draft choices QB Pat White and CB Sean Smith.
| Our view: Training camp is over a month away, so this isn't totally shocking at this time. Three weeks from now if the story remains the same there would be some concern. |

Dolphins | Pat White the fastest player on the field Wed Jun 24, 06:37 PM
Omar Kelly, from the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, said in an interview on our podcast "The Audible" that Pat White was the fastest player on the practice field for the Miami Dolphins. Kelly said that White was "as fast as he needs to be" and he hasn't seen anyone catch him from behind when White gets to the open field.
| Our view: Kelly also commented how White was struggling with his accuracy throwing the football. White was called the "perfect Wildcat QB" by NFL Networks Mike Mayock, and he gives the Dolphins a playmaking threat other teams will have to gameplan for each week. Kelly doesn't anticipate White overtaking Chad Henne for the #2 job behind Chad Pennington, but he should see the field a few times a game running the Wildcat. In his rookie season Pat White may not put up many stats, but it will be exciting every time he steps onto the field. |

Dolphins | White struggles with accuracy Sat Jun 13, 05:03 PM
Edgar Thompson, of the Palm Beach Post, reports that Pat White had a myriad of bad throws in the morning practice on Saturday, June 13, from hitting the crossbar of the goalpost in a red zone drill, to pegging Bill Parcells goal cart on a throw to the corner of the end zone.
| Our view: Head coach Tony Sparano put a good spin on White's progress, saying ""Every day he's getting a little bit better at something.", but that would be hard to not do because White has come into the league with so much room to improve. It's going to be at least a year before he challenges to even be the backup QB in Miami. |

Dolphins | White continues to struggle Thu May 28, 04:11 PM
Edgar Thompson, of the Palm Beach Post, reports Miami Dolphins QB Pat White continues to struggle with his accuracy during practices.
| Our view: Perhaps Pat White is not a practice player. While at the 2009 Senior Bowl White struggled during practice every day, but when the lights came on for game time he ended up being named the MVP of the game. Everyone was excited when the Dolphins selected White in the 2nd round of the 2009 NFL Draft, but the reality is White has a lot of work ahead of him if he's ever going to challenge Chad Henne for the 2nd string job. |

Dolphins | White sees time in Wildcat, struggles with passing Tue May 19, 06:43 PM
Zach Buchanan, of the South Florida SunSentinel, reports Miami Dolphins QB Pat White lined up at wide receiver at times when the team practiced in the Wildcat formation Tuesday, May 19. He overthrew some receivers when he worked at quarterback during practice. 'He kind of sprayed it around a little bit today. He had a little bit better day yesterday than today, and that's going to happen the more you put in. I think as we get on in this, he'll have some good days,' head coach Tony Sparano said.
| Our view: Before the 2009 NFL Draft Mike Mayock from the NFL Network called Pat White the "perfect" Wildcat QB but apparently the rookie still has some work to do. White may not be a good practice player because at the Senior Bowl practices he looked timid and lost. However, when it was game time he seemed cool and relaxed and ended up as the MVP of the game. He'll just have to get used to the timing and rhythm of the NFL and until he does it seems unlikely that he'll beat out Chad Henne as the #2 QB. |

Dolphins | Pennington remains No. 1 quarterback Thu May 7, 12:51 PM
Armando Salguero, of The Miami Herald, reports while all of the talk of the Miami Dolphins quarterbacks has surrounded the drafting of Pat White and how second-year QB Chad Henne is slated to take over as the starter in 2010, it has been overlooked that QB Chad Pennington remains the starter in 2009.
| Our view: Chad Pennington's job is fairly safe. Unless Pennington were to go down with an injury it doesn't sound like Chad Henne is ready to be the starter. Pat White may be the perfect Wildcat QB, but he may have to be listed as a WR to see action on Sundays as #3 QBs can only enter games in emergency situations and are listed as inactive. |

Dolphins | White has jammed finger Sat May 2, 04:42 PM

Dolphins | White learning and improving Sat May 2, 04:39 PM
Miami Dolphins head coach Tony Sparano seems impressed with the play of rookie QB Pat White. He said White sees things crystal clear and made some pretty good throws on the second day. 'It showed me that he took something off the board and out of the film room and was able to come out here and process it versus the coverage and have all of the right answers for that. I thought he threw it a little better today than he did yesterday,' Sparano said.
| Our view: Pat White may only line up at QB a few times a game, but the Dolphins are hoping that they can be impact plays. Opposing teams will certainly prepare for the Wildcat when going up against Miami but Pat White's athleticism gives the Dolphins an "X" factor that not many scout teams can match. He has played with a chip on his shoulder since the college season came to a close and he will be out to prove that he can play QB in this league. |
Dolphins | White has jammed finger Fri May 1, 04:15 PM
Omar Kelly, of the South Florida SunSentinel, reports Miami Dolphins QB Pat White (finger) will not take snaps from under center during minicamp because of a jammed finger.
| Our view: Pat White was throwing passes in practice so it doesn't sound like a serious injury. He'll get back to taking snaps very soon. |

Dolphins | Could White lead to the spread offense in Miami? Wed Apr 29, 04:03 AM
Omar Kelly, of The South Florida Sun-Sentinel, reports Miami Dolphins rookie QB Pat White will allow offensive coordinator Dan Henning and quarterbacks coach David Lee to add even more options within the team's Wildcat offense. It is also believed that White's addition to the team opens the door for the spread offense to follow.
| Our view: Pat White will give the Dolphins several options from the QB position. He will compete with Chad Pennington and Chad Henne for playing time, but could make the active gameday roster at WR. If he does not win the #2 QB job (Henne has impressed in that role) he could not enter the game. A #3 QB can only enter the game in emergency situations (both QBs ahead going down with injury). Because of that rule, White would have to be listed as a WR, thus he could enter the game at any time. This will be an interesting battle to watch in training camp, but expect White to be listed as a WR in his first year on Sundays. |
Dolphins | P. White to compete at quarterback Mon Apr 27, 09:15 AM
Dave Hyde, of the South Florida SunSentinel, reports Miami Dolphins QB Pat White will compete at the quarterback position and serve as the team's quarterback in the Wildcat offense.
| Our view: Mike Mayock from the NFL Network described Pat White as the "perfect" Wildcat QB. However, in order to see playing time on Sundays White would have to win the #2 QB job as #3 QB's can only come in during emergency situations. This means he could be named as a gameday active at WR, and thus could enter the game at any time. |
Dolphins | White will compete at quarterback Sun Apr 26, 02:01 AM
Contrary to previous reports, Miami Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland said rookie QB Pat White will line up at quarterback for the team to start off with. 'There will be a lot said about how we are going to utilize him,' Ireland said. 'He has an unusual skill set, whether he plays quarterback, or another position. Right now, he's going to line up at quarterback.' Ireland said White enhances the team's offense and how they play offensively. White, according to Ireland, has the ability to anchor their Wildcat formation. He went on to say that he feels White could compete for the starting quarterback job in Miami.

Vikings | P. White works out Wed Apr 22, 09:57 AM
Alex Marvez, of FOXSports.com, reports the Minnesota Vikings conducted a private workout Tuesday, April 21, with West Virginia QB Pat White, according to a source. The Vikings have interest in White as a quarterback and wide receiver.
| Our view: The real question is can Brad Childress be creative enough on offense to get the most out of White's natural ability? Mike Mayock from the NFL Network has described White as the perfect Wildcat QB, and he has impressed scouts from the Senior Bowl to the Scouting Combine. The Vikings brought in Sage Rosenfels to compete with Tarvaris Jackson, so if they drafted White he might have difficulty getting on the field as a QB. He is raw as a WR, but with his elite athleticism he could make some plays as a gadget player. |
