Eagles | Markus Wheaton has chance to make team    Mon May 28, 12:22 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Markus Wheaton appears to be the leading candidate for the No. 5 receiver job for the Eagles because of his NFL experience and ability to make plays. He will compete with WRs Greg Ward Jr. and Shelton Gibson for the job.

Footballguys view: With seven catches over the last two seasons, we're not counting on Wheaton to do a lot...no matter if he stays with the Eagles or has to find another team. The Eagles are jam-packed at the position and Wheaton has turned in a disappointing pro career since the Steelers made him a third-round pick out of Oregon State in 2013.

Eagles | Markus Wheaton signing with Eagles    Wed May 2, 04:37 PM

Free-agent WR Markus Wheaton (Bears) is signing an undisclosed deal with the Philadelphia Eagles Wednesday, May 2.

Footballguys view: Wheaton has done little during his time in the NFL with the Bears and the Steelers. We don't imagine him making the 53-man roster for the Eagles, but he will get a chance for a fresh start (again) with the Super Bowl champs.

The Chicago Bears have declared DL John Jenkins, OG Kyle Long, QB Mark Sanchez, WR Markus Wheaton, CB Prince Amukamara, RB Taquan Mizzell, WR Tre McBride inactive for Week 1.

Footballguys view: Julio Jones, Matt Ryan and the Atlanta passing game in general should have an easier time of it with Amukamara out. Kyle Long's absence will hamper the Bears offense, especially when they are running the ball.

LB Sam Acho (ankle), DT Jonathan Bullard (glute) and CB Sherrick McManis (hamstring) fully participated in practice and are not on the injury report.

Footballguys view: The Bears will have their hands full with the Falcons passing game but will be without their presumptive #1 corner. If the team is missing Kyle Long, it will impact the offense as he's their best offensive lineman.

Bears | Markus Wheaton dealing with another injury    Sun Aug 13, 02:44 PM

Chicago Bears WR Markus Wheaton (finger) has been diagnosed with a broken finger on his left hand. Wheaton recently returned to practice after missing time with an appendectomy.

Footballguys view: It's always something with Wheaton. Even with a fresh start this year with the Bears, we weren't expecting much from Wheaton. He's been a career disappointment ever since the Steelers selected him as a third-round pick out of Oregon State in 2013.

Bears | Markus Wheaton will return soon    Wed Aug 2, 03:13 PM

Chicago Bears WR Markus Wheaton (appendix) will return to action in two weeks, according to NFL Network's Stacey Dales. Wheaton underwent an appendectomy Sunday, July 30.

Footballguys view: Forget his appendix for a second, there's little attractive about Wheaton and the Bears. A rookie quarterback (who will replace an unproven Mike Glennon sometime early this season) in a sputtering offense doesn't exactly spell 'production' to us. We've got a ton of bench depth wide receivers and no No. 1. Missing part of camp because of this surgery makes it worse. We're avoiding this mess, and so are GMs in drafts right now.

Bears | Markus Wheaton undergoes appendectomy    Sun Jul 30, 02:22 PM

Chicago Bears WR Markus Wheaton (appendix) is expected to miss practice this week after undergoing appendectomy Sunday, July 30.

Footballguys view: Wheaton is adjusting to a new team and offense, so this won't help him. He is projected to be among a commitee of #3 receivers for the Bears, being the best deep threat of the bunch.

Bears | Markus Wheaton has good chance to start    Thu Jun 22, 10:22 AM

Chicago Bears WR Markus Wheaton likely has a good chance to start on the outside for the team. The Pittsburgh Steelers used Wheaton in the slot, but he wasn't nearly as productive as he was on the outside.

Footballguys view: We're not sure if it really will make much of a difference where he lines up with the Bears. Wheaton was underwhelming with one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL throwing him the ball when Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger was tossing him passes. He is unlikely to see an equivalent level of play out of either Mike Glennon or rookie Mitchell Trubisky, so we're not sold that he finally reaches his potential in Chicago.

Bears | Markus Wheaton ready to play    Sat Jun 10, 11:14 PM

Chicago Bears WR Markus Wheaton (shoulder) is almost fully recovered from his shoulder injury. 'I'm waiting for them to let me loose,' Wheaton said. 'I feel great, though.'

Footballguys view: Wheaton has never played up to his potential as a pro. Injuries and inconsistencies held him back during his time with the Steelers. The veteran gets a fresh start with the Bears this year. Chicago must have a plan for Wheaton after signing him to a two-year, $11 million dollar deal with $6 million dollars guaranteed. Wheaton is competing to be the third receiver for the Bears behind Kevin White and Cameron Meredith.

Bears | Evaluating Chicago's WRs    Mon Jun 5, 09:43 AM

Chicago Bears WRs Cameron Meredith (thumb), Kevin White and Markus Wheaton (shoulder) are considered locks to make the 53-man roster, in the opinion of Chicago Tribune writer Dan Wiederer. WRs Victor Cruz, Kendall Wright, Josh Bellamy, Deonte Thompson and Daniel Braverman are considered to be on the bubble. WRs Tanner Gentry, Rueben Randle and Titus Davis are viewed as long shots for the final roster.

Footballguys view: Meredith and potentially White have fantasy value, but there's not much else that gets us excited here. Wheaton couldn't stay healthy or impress during his time with the Steelers. Cruz is a great story (and a great dancer) but not a great fantasy asset. We're a bit intrigued by Gentry in super deep dynasty leagues as his 49 targets of 20 yards or more in 2016 led the FBS (per PFF). That's about it really...and don't expect the Bears passing game to light the world on fire no matter if Mike Glennon or Mitchell Trubisky is the starter at quarterback.

Bears | Markus Wheaton expects to be healthy soon    Fri Mar 10, 06:49 PM

Chicago Bears WR Markus Wheaton (shoulder) said he expects to be fully recovered from his shoulder surgery by April.

Footballguys view: Sweet...but it doesn't mean we're excited about him with his new team. Wheaton was a huge disappointment with the Steelers. Outside of a game or two, Wheaton underperformed and his game was plagued by drops and lapses in concentration.

Bears | Markus Wheaton headed to Chicago    Thu Mar 9, 06:40 PM

Free-agent WR Markus Wheaton (Steelers) agreed to terms with the Chicago Bears on Thursday, March 9, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Now that Alshon Jeffery is in Philadelphia, the Bears are throwing a lot of players at the wall to see if anything sticks. Wheaton has shown some talent but last year was a poor one for him, and we're not sure the situation in Chicago will be conducive to him reaching his potential.
