Dolphins | Brian Westbrook works out Tue Sep 13, 03:42 PM
The Miami Dolphins worked out free-agent RB Brian Westbrook (49ers) Tuesday, Sept. 13. The Dolphins aren't sure if they want to use RB Larry Johnson as a backup running back.
Footballguys view: Signing Westbrook makes sense for the Dolphins. They have Reggie Bush as their primary RB and Westbrook could do many of the things Bush does in the offense. He showed last year with the 49ers that he isn't completely washed up and may be an option for Miami. |

Browns | Team wants to add a change of pace RB Mon May 23, 01:34 PM
Tony Grossi, from the Cleveland Plain Dealer, reports the Browns may want to add a change of pace, pass catching RB via free agency. Options for the team could be Jerome Harrison, Darren Sproles, or Brian Westbrook.
Footballguys view: Westbrook makes a lot of sense as he proved he has more left in the tank than some thought last year as a member of the 49ers, plus he has a relationship with GM Tom Heckert from his days in Philadelphia. Sproles would be a good option too, and could help out as a returner. Harrison was with the Browns last year until he was traded to Philadelphia in exchange for Mike Bell. |

49ers | Is rookie RB Hunter a Westbrook clone? Tue May 17, 05:44 PM
Matt Barrows, from the Sacramento Bee, reports NFL Films guru Greg Cosell commented before the draft how Oklahoma State RB Kendall Hunter looks like veteran Brian Westbrook. Hunter then was drafted by the 49ers in the fourth round as the replacement for Westbrook who should move on in free agency.
Footballguys view: Hunter is an impressive runner with the size and skill set that reminds many in the scouting community of Brian Westbrook. He is a quick twitch athlete who can get to top speed in the blink of an eye. Hunter can hide behind bigger offensive linemen, showing patience to wait for the hole to open up and the burst to get to the second level quickly. He is also a good receiving option out of the backfield and a willing pass blocker. |

Redskins | Could show interest in Brian Westbrook Thu May 12, 12:36 PM
The Washington Redskins could show interest in San Francisco 49ers impending free-agent RB Brian Westbrook once free agency begins if they believe they need to find a third-down running back. The Redskins were interested in Westbrook last offseason but did not agree to a deal.
Footballguys view: Westbrook proved last season that his career tank wasn't totally out of gas. He could work perfectly in a reserve role for the team, and bring a skill set to the team they don't have at the RB position. |

Browns | RB Westbrook a 'natural' fit Mon May 9, 01:51 PM
Tony Grossi, from the Cleveland Plain Dealer, believes the Browns are looking for a change of pace, pass catching back to rotate in behind Peyton Hillis and Montario Hardesty. Grossi feels veteran Brian Westbrook is a natural fit and could be targeted by the team in free agency.
Footballguys view: Westbrook has a relationship with Browns GM Tom Heckert from his days with the Eagles. The veteran is moving on after one season with the 49ers and could be a nice fit for the Browns playing in a part time role. |

Eagles | Brian Westbrook would like to return Mon Mar 7, 09:54 AM
San Francisco 49ers impending free-agent RB Brian Westbrook would like to play for the Philadelphia Eagles again, according to Adam Caplan, of FOXSports.com. Westbrook played the first eight years of his career with the Eagles before joining the 49ers last season. 'I talk to coach (Eagles head coach Andy) Reid every week or so. We always talk. I would love to be back in Philly. So we'll see how things go,' Westbrook said Sunday, March 6. 'I think they have a very good group of guys on the team as far as every position, but I still think I can help this team win.'
Footballguys view: The Eagles have a decent backup behind LeSean McCoy in Jerome Harrison, who they recently tendered as a Restricted Free Agent. Bringing Westbrook back could work, but they would have to get him for the right price. He showed that he's not completely washed up last year, but knee and concussion concerns still linger for the veteran. |

49ers | Brian Westbrook unlikely to return Fri Feb 18, 12:40 PM
The San Francisco 49ers are not expected to re-sign impending free-agent RB Brian Westbrook this offseason, reports Matt Maiocco, of CSNBayArea.com.
Footballguys view: Westbrook looked good in limited duty this last season but will have to move on in 2011. He proved that he can still be a good change of pace part time running back and receiver out of the backfield. |

49ers | Brian Westbrook, Anthony Dixon to split workload Tue Nov 30, 06:28 PM
San Francisco 49ers head coach Mike Singletary said the team will use RBs Brian Westbrook and Anthony Dixon to split the workload with RB Frank Gore (hip) out for the season, according to The Associated Press. 'Frank is a big part of what we do -- heart, soul, everything he brings is what you want,' Singletary said. 'But thankfully, Brian Westbrook is a mature, experienced leader and we just have to be careful about how we use him and how much exposure we allow him to see. I think there will be a good mixture between Brian Westbrook and Dixon. We'll just have to see how we do that.'

Demoff, however, remains optimistic the team remains in the running to acquire Westbrook this year.

Broncos | May reconsider signing Brian Westbrook Mon Aug 2, 05:15 PM
The Denver Broncos may reconsider the possibility of signing unrestricted free-agent RB Brian Westbrook (Broncos) after the injuries to RB Knowshon Moreno (hamstring) and RB Correll Buckhalter (back), reports Mike Klis, of The Denver Post.
Footballguys view: Without Moreno and Buckhalter the Broncos have very little talent or depth on their offensive line. They just traded away RB J.J. Arrington this last weekend to the Eagles, and are getting thin at the RB position. Westbrook isn't the same player he used to be, but could be a fine change of pace runner and receiver out of the backfield for the Broncos. |

NFL | Brian Westbrook working out Fri Jul 9, 01:42 PM
Minnesota Vikings TE Visanthe Shiancoe said unrestricted free-agent RB Brian Westbrook (Eagles) has been working out and looks like he is running well, according to NFL.com's Frank Tadych. 'This is the first time he's been able to really work out fully and not feel [his previous injuries]. This is the first time where he's not being bothered and he's able explode and really work out and prepare. He looks really, really fluid out there. He looks really good. He's getting in training camp shape,' Shiancoe said.
Footballguys view: A lot of things about Westbrook to the Vikings make sense. He has tons of experience with head coach Brad Childress, and they could use a veteran backup to Adrian Peterson, one that can fill Chester Taylor's third-down back role. The main hitch seems to be Westbrook's ability to stay healthy, but the longer he stays out there, the lower the price gets, making that a tolerable risk to take. |

NFL | Brian Westbrook working out Fri Jul 9, 12:18 AM
Unrestricted free-agent RB Brian Westbrook (Eagles) has been working out for several weeks at Athletic Dominance in Maryland, according to NFL Network. 'This is the first time he's been able to really work out fully and not feel (his previous injuries),' Minnesota Vikings TE Visanthe Shiancoe said. 'This is the first time where he's not being bothered and he's able to explode and really work out and prepare. He looks really, really fluid out there.' Westbrook indicated that he would have 'no problem' playing for the Vikings this year.
Footballguys view: The league's reluctance as a whole to sign Westbrook indicates that his durability is still an issue. It's July and this is the first time he has worked out fully? He can function as a good "break glass in case of emergency" back, but his ability to handle a good part of a backfield workload is probably done. |
