NFL | Beanie Wells tore Achilles'    Mon Oct 28, 10:27 AM

Updating an earlier report, free-agent RB Beanie Wells (Achilles') tore his Achilles' in his recent workout with the Baltimore Ravens.

Footballguys view: Wells already had a long injury history that gave plenty of teams pause when considering veteran backs to sign. This Achilles' injury could severely hinder the market for his services next offseason.

Jaguars | Beanie Wells deal not imminent    Fri Jun 7, 09:33 AM

The Jacksonville Jaguars aren't close to a deal with free-agent RB Beanie Wells (Cardinals).

Footballguys view: This was just a matter of the team updating the emergency list. Wells has to prove that he's healthy and if he does that then some team should bring him in for training camp.

Jaguars | Beanie Wells to visit    Thu Jun 6, 01:36 PM

The Jacksonville Jaguars are set to work out free-agent RB Beanie Wells (Cardinals) Thursday, June 6.

Footballguys view: The Jaguars have question marks at the RB position behind Maurice Jones-Drew. Wells was a bust with the Cardinals and is looking for a fresh start. We'll see if his knee and toe issues are behind him enough to entice a team to take a chance on him. Currently the Jaguars have Justin Forsett and rookie Denard Robinson (Michigan) as the primary backups behind Jones-Drew.

Steelers | Checked on Beanie Wells    Thu Mar 21, 12:07 AM

The Pittsburgh Steelers checked on the health of free-agent RB Beanie Wells (Cardinals).

Footballguys view: The Steelers are looking for RB help and they'll kick the tires on a guy like Wells to see if his knees are healthy. If they don't add a free agent then we could see them select a RB in the 2013 NFL Draft.

Steelers | May not pursue Beanie Wells    Mon Mar 18, 03:06 PM

Free-agent RB Beanie Wells (Cardinals) passed the physical he took with the Pittsburgh Steelers, but his knee injury is bad enough that it would be a risk if the team signed him.

Footballguys view: It's time to stop carrying Wells in dynasty leagues.

Steelers | Beanie Wells undergoes physical    Thu Mar 14, 01:20 PM

The Pittsburgh Steelers put free-agent RB Beanie Wells (Cardinals) through a physical during his visit Wednesday, March 13.

Cardinals | Will release Beanie Wells    Mon Mar 11, 04:03 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Beanie Wells said on his Twitter page that he will be released by the Cardinals.

Cardinals | Beanie Wells anxious for fresh start     Sat Jan 26, 08:54 AM

Arizona Cardinals RB Beanie Wells is excited for the 2013 season with the recent hiring of Bruce Arians as head coach. Wells expects a better relationship with his new head coach; he often did not see eye-to-eye with former head coach Ken Whisenhunt. 'We definitely had our fair share of disagreements this season, and I've never been in a situation like that before,' Wells said.

Footballguys view: Wells was a disappointment in college and never seemed to play up to his potential. That trend has continued during his pro career. We'll see if this fresh start is just what he needed to finally be a quality starter.

Cardinals | No audition tape for Beanie Wells    Mon Dec 31, 12:55 AM

Arizona Cardinals RB Beanie Wells dressed for the Week 17 game against the San Francisco 49ers, but he never left the sideline. Earlier in the week, Wells had said he was going to be 'auditioning' for 31 other teams in Week 17, and said he expected to be released or traded in the offseason.

Footballguys view: We're certain Wells won't be back with the team in 2013. Backup RB LaRod Stephens-Howling is likely to test the free agent market as well. We think 'The Hyphen' could return as a change of pace RB behind Ryan Williams. All dynasty owners need to throw out an offer for Williams. He'll be two years removed from the knee injury that cost him his rookie season of 2011. The shoulder injury that sidelined him this year will also be fully healed.

Cardinals | Beanie Wells looking to move on?    Wed Dec 26, 10:28 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Beanie Wells said this week that he is 'auditioning for a job somewhere else' in Week 17 against the San Francisco 49ers. He said he hasn't had any formal discussions with the team about his future, but he feels his departure is 'inevitable.'

Footballguys view: We don't think Wells will return to the Cardinals in 2013. This leaves Ryan Williams as the feature back entering next season.

Cardinals | Beanie Wells does not expect to stay     Mon Dec 24, 02:53 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Beanie Wells said he believes his days with the Cardinals are numbered and will be using Week 17 as an audition for other teams.

Footballguys view: No surprise here. Perhaps a change of scenery will do Wells some good. Injuries and inconsistencies have hampered his pro career, just like they did his college career at Ohio State.

Cardinals | Beanie Wells yanked in loss    Sun Dec 23, 11:19 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Beanie Wells fumbled at his own 1-yard line in Week 16 against the Chicago Bears, and it was recovered by the defense for a touchdown. 'From what I saw, obviously you can't put the ball on the ground, especially not there,' head coach Ken Whisenhunt said. After that miscue, Wells saw just one carry the rest of the game.

Footballguys view: Wells should be the backup to Ryan Williams next year as long as Williams is healthy enough to be the lead back.

Cardinals | Beanie Wells scores three times    Sun Dec 16, 09:04 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Beanie Wells carried 17 times for 67 yards with three rushing scores in the Week 15 game against the Detroit Lions. It was Wells' second-career three-TD performance.

Footballguys view: Wells was only in a semifinals lineup if a team was in dire straits, but it paid off big as the Lions appear to be waving the white flag. It's hard to want to go back to him next week against the Bears.

Cardinals | Beanie Wells practices in full    Thu Dec 13, 05:35 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Beanie Wells (knee) practiced in full Thursday, Dec. 13.

Cardinals | Beanie Wells practices in full    Wed Dec 12, 05:06 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Beanie Wells (knee) practiced in full Wednesday, Dec. 12.

Cardinals | Beanie Wells expected to play    Sun Dec 9, 10:40 AM

Arizona Cardinals RB Beanie Wells (knee) is expected to play against the Seattle Seahawks during Week 13 despite being listed as questionable.

Footballguys view: Wells is still going to have tough sledding against the Seattle defense. He is worthless unless he gets in the end zone, and it's hard to trust John Skelton to lead the Cardinals offense to paydirt. Consider Wells a desperation play.

Cardinals | Beanie Wells questionable    Fri Dec 7, 05:17 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Beanie Wells (knee) was limited in practice Friday, Dec. 7, and is questionable for Week 14.

Footballguys view: Wells had two touchdowns upon his return two weeks ago, but failed to even average two yards a carry last week. He's not an advisable play against the stout Seahawks defense.

Cardinals | Beanie Wells limited    Thu Dec 6, 06:44 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Beanie Wells (knee) was limited in practice Thursday, Dec. 6.

Footballguys view: Wells is a risky fantasy start because he's one of the more inconsistent players in the league. We like him as a low end RB2 or flex play this week.

Cardinals | Beanie Wells limited    Wed Dec 5, 06:44 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Beanie Wells (knee) was limited in practice Wednesday, Dec. 5.

Footballguys view: The Cardinals passing game gets a boost here with John Skelton named the starter. That may help open things up for the ground game ever so slightly. Wells is difficult to trust as anything more than a low end flex play in week 14.

Cardinals | Beanie Wells questionable    Fri Nov 30, 04:19 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Beanie Wells (knee) was limited in practice Friday, Nov. 30, and is questionable for Week 13.

Footballguys view: Wells is going to play and he is a solid flex option against the so-so Jets run defense. Last week, he was able to finish two drives, so he should get the call when the Cardinals get in the red zone this week.

Cardinals | Beanie Wells limited in practice    Thu Nov 29, 04:36 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Beanie Wells (knee) was limited in practice Thursday, Nov. 29.

Footballguys view: Wells is the leading RB for the Cardinals and worth a flex play in week 13. He's got upside as their opponent, the Jets, rank 30th in the league against the run and give up an average of 142.8 yards per game.

Cardinals | Beanie Wells limited    Wed Nov 28, 05:52 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Beanie Wells (knee) was limited in practice Wednesday, Nov. 28.

Footballguys view: We're certain this is a precautionary move by the team. Wells is the starter and should get a majority of the touches at the RB position this week against the Jets. We like him as a low end RB2 or flex option in week 13.

Cardinals | Beanie Wells finds end zone twice    Mon Nov 26, 12:21 AM

Arizona Cardinals RB Beanie Wells (toe) made his return from the Injured Reserve/Designated to Return list in Week 12 against the St. Louis Rams. He had 17 carries for 48 yards and a pair of touchdown runs.

Footballguys view: Wells didn't really look good except on his 12-yard touchdown run - his second score on the day. He is worth a flex play vs. the Jets next week if you don't have a better option, but don't get too excited about this performance upon his return.

Cardinals | Beanie Wells thinks he can handle full load soon     Sat Nov 24, 03:49 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Beanie Wells (toe) said he does not think it will take him long before he can handle a full workload even though he missed seven game with a toe injury. 'I think I'm capable of a full workload. The thing is, I always look at it like I've been playing football since I was six years old and that's one thing I don't forget how to do. I just take it for what it is. I've been practicing for two weeks, I'm feeling good and getting a lot of reps,' Wells said.

Footballguys view: We're not expecting much from Wells. Even if he's ready for a full load the Cardinals will continue to use LaRod Stephens-Howling as at least a change of pace runner. Split time in the backfield on a team with a bad O-Line and poor QB play is not the recipe for fantasy success.

Cardinals | Beanie Wells probable     Fri Nov 23, 03:45 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Beanie Wells (toe) fully participated in practice Friday, Nov. 23, and is listed as probable for Week 12.

Footballguys view: Wells should be on the field this week for the Cardinals, but predicting his fantasy value this week is difficult. He'll split time with LaRod Stephens-Howling and we can't recommend him as anything more than a desperation flex play in week 12.

Cardinals | Beanie Wells' playing time uncertain for Week 12     Thu Nov 22, 12:50 PM

Arizona Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt is not saying how much playing time RB Beanie Wells (toe) will receive Week 12.

Footballguys view: We can't recommend Wells as anything more than a 'what the heck' flex in week 12. The team will monitor his carries as he comes back from this toe injury.

Cardinals | Beanie Wells practices in full    Wed Nov 21, 05:35 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Beanie Wells (toe) practiced in full Wednesday, Nov. 21.

Cardinals | Beanie Wells activated    Wed Nov 21, 10:49 AM

Arizona Cardinals RB Beanie Wells (toe) was activated from the Injured Reserve/Designated to Return list. OLB Jamaal Westerman was released.

Footballguys view: Wells should be able to take over the starting job eventually for this team. However, LaRod Stephens-Howling has done a good job with an increased role and the Cardinals are likely to use some form of RBBC with both backs.

Cardinals | Beanie Wells kept himself in shape    Tue Nov 20, 09:32 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Beanie Wells (toe) said Tuesday, Nov. 20, that he kept himself in shape during his stint on the Injured Reserve/Designated to Return list, and is prepared to carry the ball as often as head coach Ken Whisenhunt wants to give it to him. 'Yep, yep. I'm in shape,' Wells said. 'I've been working hard with (strength coach) John Lott to make sure I was going to be ready when I could play,' Wells said.

Footballguys view: Wells should be the team's lead back if he's healthy enough to handle the workload. However, with the way LaRod Stephens-Howling has been playing the team may use some form of RBBC.

Cardinals | Beanie Wells will come off IR     Mon Nov 19, 01:21 PM

Arizona Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt said the team will activate RB Beanie Wells (toe) from the Injured Reserve/Designated to Return list and expect him to play Week 12.

Footballguys view: Wells should be the Cardinals starter, but with the emergence of LaRod Stephens-Howling we could see the team use a RBBC. Fantasy owners in need of RB help can add Wells but don't expect him to produce as anything more than a low end RB2 or flex option.

Cardinals | Beanie Wells on target for Week 12    Fri Nov 16, 10:31 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Beanie Wells (toe) is eligible to return from the Injured Reserve/Designated to Return list in Week 12. When he is activated, he is expected to start against the St. Louis Rams.

Footballguys view: Don't wait any longer to add Wells if he is on your waiver wire.

Cardinals | Beanie Wells plans to return    Tue Nov 6, 04:23 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Beanie Wells (toe) said there is 'no doubt about it' that he will return to play against the St. Louis Rams Nov. 25. Wells is on the Injured Reserve/Designated to Return list right now. He is eligible to return to practice Wednesday, Nov. 7. Wells figures to start when he returns, but the team may choose to be cautious and limit his workload. He said his knee 'feels great' and his toe 'feels good.'

Footballguys view: Fantasy owners need to add Wells to their roster if they've got the space on the bench to stash him away. The Cardinals aren't known as a strong rushing team, but Wells could be the shot in the arm they need on the ground.

Arizona Cardinals RB Beanie Wells (toe) is on track to return Week 12 from his toe injury. He is currently on the Injured Reserve/Designated to Return list.

Footballguys view: The Cardinals running game isn't inspiring, but this is still reason to pick Wells up if you need running back help.

Arizona Cardinals RB Beanie Wells (toe) is running well and is on target to return to practice next week. He's eligible to return against the St. Louis Rams Sunday, Nov. 25. 'There's no question he makes a difference in the run game because of his size-speed combo, and that would help us,' head coach Ken Whisenhunt said.

Footballguys view: Wells could come back in week 12 but fantasy owners may have a difficult time finding a spot for him in the lineup. The Cardinals aren't that dedicated to the run.

Cardinals | William Powell turns heads    Sun Oct 14, 09:13 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB William Powell carried 14 times for a team-high 70 yards in the Week 6 game against the Buffalo Bills. He stepped up with RBs Beanie Wells (toe) and Ryan Williams (shoulder), and fellow RB LaRod Stephens-Howling struggling with just 11 carries and 22 yards.

Footballguys view: Powell had a good burst and the ability to get outside on his runs, which is key behind an Arizona offensive line that doesn't get a good push in the trenches. He looks like he'll have at least flex value for the next month or two if he can stay healthy.

Cardinals | Beanie Wells placed on IR/Designated to Return list    Wed Sep 26, 04:12 PM

The Arizona Cardinals have placed RB Beanie Wells (toe) on the Injured Reserve/Designated to return list.

Footballguys view: Wells won't be able to practice for six weeks and isn't eligible to return until the team's week 12 game against the Rams. Ryan Williams now becomes the team's starter and could put up RB2 numbers. LaRod Stephens-Howling will play as the change of pace back. Deep league owners need to add William Powell now if he's on the wire. If Williams goes down with an injury Powell would take over as the lead back.

Cardinals | No updates on two injured players    Mon Sep 24, 03:21 PM

Arizona Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt did not have updates on RB Beanie Wells (toe) or DT Darnell Dockett (hamstring) after both suffered injuries Week 3.

Footballguys view: Wells is a very injury prone RB. This latest injury opens up the door for second-year RB Ryan Williams to be the starter. We like Williams speed, agility, and vision when running between the tackles.

Arizona Cardinals RB Ryan Williams saw a lion's share of the carries in Week 3 against the Philadelphia Eagles with RB Beanie Wells (toe) leaving the game early. Williams finished with 13 carries for 83 yards, and he added a 12-yard reception.

Footballguys view: Williams ran with a lot of confidence and Beanie Wells has a toe injury. With a strong defense to keep games on a ball control game script, Williams' value is on the rise.

Arizona Cardinals RB Beanie Wells (toe) left the Week 3 game against the Philadelphia Eagles due to a toe injury, and he said after the game he thinks he might have turf toe. He'll be re-evaluated Monday, Sept. 24.

Footballguys view: This is great news for Ryan Williams's owners. The younger back ran with confidence at the end of the game, and the Cardinals have the defense to feed a running game no matter how bad the offensive line is.

Arizona Cardinals RB Beanie Wells (knee) fully participated in practice Friday, Sept. 21, and is listed as probable for Week 3.
