Titans | Tennessee cuts Matt Cassel, Eric Weems    Fri Mar 9, 01:05 PM

Tennessee Titans QB Matt Cassel and WR Eric Weems were released Friday, March 9.

Footballguys view: Weems plays mostly on special teams and should be able to find a landing spot. Cassel is not a great backup option, but the veteran brings a lot of experience to the table that some team may be interested in.

Titans | Tennessee releases several players    Sat Sep 2, 02:20 PM

Tennessee Titans TE Jace Amaro, TE Jerome Cunningham, QB Tyler Ferguson, WR Darius Jennings, WR Jonathan Krause, WR KeVonn Mabon, WR Tre McBride, RB Khalfani Muhammad, WR Giovanni Pascascio, RB Brandon Radcliff, TE Tim Semisch and WR Eric Weems Saturday, Sept. 2. The team also waived/injured FB Joe Bacci (undisclosed) and RB Akeem Judd (undisclosed).

Footballguys view: A second-round pick (2014) by the Jets, Amaro has been held back as a pro due to injury and inconsistency. He's a name player who could find a home, but we're not expecting much no matter where he lands.

Titans | Eric Weems likely will make team    Sat Jun 24, 04:09 PM

Tennessee Titans WR Eric Weems likely will make the 53-man roster because of his ability to be a kick and punt returner.

Footballguys view: Weems played only 16 snaps for the Falcons in 2016 and didn't get a single target on offense. He's a return man only but should be able to find a place in the now crowded Titans WR corps.

Chicago Bears WR Eric Weems, WR Micheal Spurlock, WR Armanti Edwards, WR Chris X. Williams and RB Michael Ford are all in the mix for the kick and punt return jobs this season.

Footballguys view: The days of Devin Hester are long gone, and the Bears need to find a dangerous return man to aid their special teams. It will be interesting to see which one of these players stands out the most in training camp.

Bears | Plenty of WRs duking it out    Sat Jun 7, 10:55 PM

The No. 4 and 5 wide receiver jobs for the Chicago Bears are up for grabs, with WRs Armanti Edwards, Josh Morgan, Micheal Spurlock, Terrence Toliver, Eric Weems and Chris Williams set to battle for jobs during training camp and the preseason.

Footballguys view: We'd like to see Toliver get a chance because of his athleticism and body control. Morgan has been a disappointment as a pro because of inconsistency, but he's arguably the most naturally talented player listed above.

Bears | Marquess Wilson works at No. 3 WR    Wed May 28, 10:23 PM

Chicago Bears WR Marquess Wilson was working as the No. 3 receiver on the first-team offense, and appears he will get first crack at winning the job. WRs Josh Morgan and Eric Weems are also in the mix.

Footballguys view: With Domenik Hixon down with an ACL injury (and likely retiring) the No. 3 spot is wide open. Wilson's biggest competition is Josh Morgan, fresh off an uninspiring stint with Washington. Wilson has good size and decent speed, and could spend a lot of time outside with Alshon Jeffery. Head coach Marc Trestman wants to use more three-wide sets, so this is important to track. The third receiver could have WR4 value with some upside.

Bears | Marquess Wilson, Eric Weems could get more time    Sat Dec 28, 11:16 AM

Chicago Bears WR Marquess Wilson and WR Eric Weems could receive more playing time with the offense Week 17 with WR Earl Bennett (personal) being listed as questionable for the game. Wilson and Weems have received most of their playing time on special teams this season.

Footballguys view: We love the upside of Wilson in dynasty leagues. He has the speed to get on top of the defense, and he can easily track deep passes.

Bears | Three locks at WR, open after that    Tue Jul 23, 11:18 AM

Chicago Bears WRs Brandon Marshall, Alshon Jeffery and Earl Bennett are locks for the 53-man roster, but after that it is wide open. WRs Joe Anderson and Eric Weems might lock up a fourth receiver job, and could be battling each other since they are each solid on special teams. WR Devin Aromashodu is in the mix for a job, and then there is seventh-round pick Marquess Wilson and WR Devin Hester, who is more known for his prowess as a return man. The team is likely to keep five receivers plus Hester.

Footballguys view: We like Wilson in this competition for the final spot on the depth chart. Wilson is a dangerous playmaker downfield who has excellent body control. He's got the size (6'2") to be a factor in the red zone as well. Problems with the coaching staff at Washington State caused him to quit the team in 2012. This made his stock tumble to the seventh-round of the 2013 NFL draft.

Bears | Joe Anderson a good bet to stick    Mon Jul 15, 01:11 PM

Chicago Bears WR Joe Anderson appears to be the most prominent of a group of receivers vying for the final two or three spots for the position on the team's 53-man roster. He can play special teams, and QB Jay Cutler has praised him. WR Eric Weems was signed last year to play on special teams, but he contributed little on offense, and that doesn't seem likely to change.

Footballguys view: Anderson originally began his college career at Louisiana Tech before transferring to Texas Southern. There he played for three years, recording 154 catches for 2010 yards and 13 touchdowns. Anderson was signed as an undrafted free agent in 2012 by the Bears and spent some time on their practice squad. He did make it to the active roster near the end of the regular season but primarily played special teams.

'It will be a rotation. (WR Eric Weems) will get snaps. (WR Kerry Meier) will get snaps,' Smith said. 'One man's misfortune, I've said many times, is another guy's opportunity.'
