Free-agent QB Joe Webb (Panthers) was signed by the Buffalo Bills Monday, Sept. 4, to an undisclosed contract. FS Colt Anderson was released.

Footballguys view: New Bills head coach Sean McDermott knows Webb well from their days together in Carolina. Webb is a big-bodied athletic quarterback with a rocket arm who can play special teams. He'll work as a reserve quarterback behind Tyrod Taylor. The Bills have rookie Nate Peterman and T.J. Yates as backups behind Taylor right now.

Panthers | Joe Webb no longer expendable    Fri Aug 29, 11:30 PM

Carolina Panthers QB Joe Webb looked expendable until QB Cam Newton (ribs) suffered a fractured rib in the third preseason game. Now, head coach Ron Rivera appears fairly adamant the team will keep three quarterbacks until it is clear Newton is healthy, and maybe longer.

Footballguys view: Webb could make the 53-man roster, but later in the year the team might let him go if Newton is at full strength.

Panthers | Cam Newton works out with receivers    Fri Jul 18, 10:39 AM

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton held a three-day throwing session with WR Kelvin Benjamin, QBs Joe Webb and Matt Blanchard, one tight end and nine other receivers this week.

Footballguys view: It's good for Newton to establish chemistry with a whole new group of receivers. The Panthers passing game is not going to give us many fireworks this year in fantasy, but look to a guy like Benjamin later in your draft. He's big and can leap out of the building. This could make him a prime red-zone target this year. Benjamin is lumbering off the line of scrimmage and not as physical as a player his size should be. His current ADP is WR48 (10.11) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Panthers | Cam Newton will work with wide receivers    Thu Jul 10, 02:22 PM

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton will work with his wide receivers before training camp gets underway to try to get on the same page after missing time due to an ankle issue. 'It's been more difficult because Cam's coming off an ankle injury and he had to get surgery, so we couldn't throw with him as much as we would like,' Panthers receiver Tiquan Underwood said.

Footballguys view: The more he can get together with these guys the better. He was working with rookie Kelvin Benjamin already, so bringing in the other guys is even better. Newton is an easy QB1 for any format, though the lack of receivers makes it tough to see him as challenging the likes of Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees, Andrew Luck or Peyton Manning.

Panthers | Signing Joe Webb as QB    Fri Mar 21, 06:11 PM

The Carolina Panthers are signing free-agent WR Joe Webb (Vikings) to an undisclosed deal as a quarterback, according to a source.

Footballguys view: An interesting move for the Panthers here. Webb is big, strong and athletic. He also has a strong arm, but accuracy issues forced him into a position switch to wide receiver with the Vikings. Webb will compete with Derek Anderson to be the primary backup behind Cam Newton.

Simpson was arrested Nov. 9 for drunken driving. 'There's no sense in me talking about that now. The decision was made. Simpson was out there on the second play.   Vikings | Joe Webb and Marcus Sherels stick in No. 5 roles    Sun Sep 1, 03:06 AM

Minnesota Vikings WR Joe Webb and CB Marcus Sherels made the team in fifth receiver and cornerback slots, respectively. Webb was converted to receiver in the spring and will be used on special teams as well. Sherels is expected to return punts when not playing defense.

Footballguys view: Webb was originally expected to be converted to wide receiver, but he hung on as quarterback for a few years, including two very strong fantasy games in 2011.

Vikings | GM thinks Joe Webb can have a role on team    Thu Aug 8, 02:09 PM

Minnesota Vikings general manager Rick Spielman said he believes the team will be able to find a roster spot for WR Joe Webb because of the versatility he can bring. '[Webb] is one of those guys that can do a lot of different things most people can't in the league,' Spielman said. 'But the other thing we're going to take a hard look at is during these special teams drills, now we're not live yet, but just seeing him run down as an athlete on kickoff coverage, working him back some as a returner, putting him out as a gunner on the punt team, see if he can break down in space and make some tackles.'

Footballguys view: Webb is an incredible athlete but struggled to impress as QB. He's raw as a receiver and needs to show better route running and hands if he wants to develop into a quality target.

Vikings | Cordarrelle Patterson working on returns    Wed Jun 19, 10:00 PM

Minnesota Vikings WR Cordarrelle Patterson continued to see the first rep on kick returns, ahead of WR Joe Webb and CBs A.J. Jefferson, Josh Robinson and Marcus Sherels. 'I think (Patterson is) more comfortable catching kickoffs right now than punts, like a lot of young guys,' special teams coordinator Mike Priefer said Wednesday, June 19. 'But we're making progress in both phases.' Priefer said if the season were starting right now, Sherels would be the team's punt returner.

Footballguys view: Patterson is a beast in the open field and it's wise for the Vikings to look at him as a return man. He's difficult to bring down in the open field because of his size, strength, and powerful stride.

Vikings | Joe Webb helping out rookie WR    Wed Jun 19, 04:37 PM

Minnesota Vikings WR Joe Webb said he has been helping out WR Cordarrelle Patterson during practices with different things. 'I've been helping Cordarrelle out a lot, especially with the offense,' Webb said. 'Keeping him updated on what defenses like to do against certain routes.'

Footballguys view: Webb is trying to make the conversion from QB to WR. He's big, fast, and incredibly athletic but may lack the ball skills to make an impact as a pass catcher. Webb tried to make the switch at the Senior Bowl when he came out of college and struggled mightily during the week of practice.

Vikings | Unlikely to use Joe Webb as punt returner    Thu Jun 6, 02:26 PM

Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier said the team sees WR Joe Webb more as a wide receiver and kick returner and not as a punt returner even though Webb was working on punt returning during organized team activities Wednesday, June 5. Frazier said Webb was fielding punts in order to give him more reps catching the ball.

Footballguys view: Webb failed as a QB and now the team is trying to find away to get his athleticism on the field. Working as a WR and a return man makes the most sense.
