Giants | Kurt Warner says Eli Manning can achieve more    Wed Feb 8, 08:25 AM

Former NFL QB Kurt Warner said during a radio interview that New York Giants QB Eli Manning is not a Hall of Famer at this point in his career despite his two Super Bowl titles.

Footballguys view: Manning didn't even lead his team to the playoffs in 2009 and 2010, so consistency is one of those needed elements to bolster his Hall of Fame case.

NFL | Kurt Warner not coming back    Mon Nov 21, 12:47 PM

Retired QB Kurt Warner confirmed that he will not be coming back to play in the NFL after the season-ending injury to Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler (thumb).

Footballguys view: The Mike Martz system is a complex one, so finding a QB who knows what to do may prove difficult. The Bears are looking at street free agents as guys like Warner, Marc Bulger, and Todd Collins all seem comfortable staying retired.

Colts | Have not contacted David Garrard    Tue Sep 27, 01:43 PM

Free-agent QB David Garrard (Jaguars) has said that the Indianapolis Colts have not contacted him. The team is also not interested in retired QB Kurt Warner or free-agent QB Marc Bulger (Ravens).

Footballguys view: The last we heard from Garrard his agent proclaimed that his client wants to be a long-term solution and not a short-term answer. Good luck with that Garrard.

Cardinals | QB Warner did not retire due to lowball offer    Mon Jul 11, 08:48 PM

Denying reports from former scout Dave Razzano, Kurt Warner tweeted earlier today that he did not retire due to a lowball offer from the team. He says he retired because he had sacrificed enough for the game and didn't want to do it anymore.

Footballguys view: Straight from the horse's mouth here.

Cardinals | Lowball offer led QB Warner to retire?    Sat Jul 9, 08:28 PM

Dave Razzanno, former 20+ year scout, reports via Twitter that Kurt Warner's people told him the veteran QB wanted to continue playing last year but a lowball offer from the Cardinals forced him into retirement.

Footballguys view: Cardinals fans should be upset if this is true. Kurt Warner led the team to a Super Bowl and some feel he could still play at a high level. The Cardinals suffered through a 5-11 record where they burned through guys like Derek Anderson, Max Hall, and John Skelton at the QB position. Arizona was the 31st ranked team in passing offense in 2010 and could have certainly used Warner under center.

NFL | Kurt Warner feels players need to give in to get new CBA    Fri May 27, 12:18 PM

Retired QB Kurt Warner said he believes that the players been to give in and compromise on some issues in order to get a new collective bargaining agreement done. 'I'm still optimistic that they're going to find a way to make sure there's football,' Warner said. 'The players have too much to lose. And as much as I hate to say it, at some point, the players have to give in. And, hopefully, they can gain some other things on their side.'

Footballguys view: DeMaurice Smith is probably wishing Warner had kept his opinion to himself.

Cardinals | Place Kurt Warner on the Reserve/Retired list    Sat Jul 10, 10:13 AM

The Arizona Cardinals have placed QB Kurt Warner on the Reserve/Retired list, reports Adam Caplan, of FOXSports.com, according to a source. By placing Warner on the list, he will not count against the team's roster limit and his salary is off the books unless he decides to come back. If Warner decides to play again, all he needs to do is notify the league in writing.

Footballguys view: We believe Warner when he says he is retired, so we wouldn't recommend stashing him waiting around for him to pull a Favre.

NFL | Kurt Warner not coming out of retirement    Wed May 19, 03:25 PM

Kurt Warner notes via his Twitter account that contrary to internet rumors, he is not coming out of retirement. Warner also noted that he still wants to be involved with football somehow.

Cardinals | To recover half of Warner's signing bonus    Sat Jan 30, 10:13 AM

Andrew Brandt, of the National Football Post, reports the Arizona Cardinals have the legal right to collect $7.5 million from QB Kurt Warner due to his skipping out on half of the contract for which he was paid a $15 million signing bonus after announcing his retirement. As per the contract, $7.5 million of the $15 million bonus is scheduled to be paid out in equal installments throughout the 2010 season. The language of the contract allows for the Cardinals to not make those installments if Warner is not on the roster in 2010, meaning he will not receive those weekly installments of the $7.5 million.

Bartelstein said he would be surprised if Warner did not start during Week 13 against the Minnesota Vikings.

Footballguys view: We still take what agents say with a grain of salt. Unless your backup is a mediocre QB in a bad matchup, we would bench Warner because teams are being very cautious with head injuries, and Warner could always have an early exit because of the ferocious Minnesota pass rush.

Footballguys view: With the Cards playing in the Sunday night game, you can't risk him missing the game if your only other option is an early game QB with a decent matchup. Guys like Vince Young, Kyle Orton, and Alex Smith should probably start over Warner unless we get definitive word that he will play Sunday night before the start of their games.

Darren Urban, of AZCardinals.com, reports Arizona Cardinals QB Kurt Warner (concussion) fully participated in practice Thursday, Dec. 3, but did split first-team reps with QB Matt Leinart. He still plans to play in Week 13.

The Associated Press reports Arizona Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt said he may not decide whether QB Kurt Warner (concussion) or QB Matt Leinart will start in Week 13 until right before the game.

Footballguys view: The trouble for fantasy owners is that Warner and company play on Sunday night, so substituting him might be impossible in most leagues. Watch this situation very closely on Sunday morning, but if you have a better starting option then you may want to play it safe and keep Warner on your bench.

Cardinals | Warner's symptoms fading    Wed Dec 2, 04:44 PM

Kent Somers, of The Arizona Republic, reports Arizona Cardinals QB Kurt Warner's (concussion) symptoms are fading, and he is hopeful of playing in Week 13. 'Best day yet,' Warner said. 'These last two days have been a lot better than I felt last week.' Warner's foggy vision is gone, although his eyes still remain sensitive to light.

Footballguys view: Track this one closely, because Warner is in the Sunday night game. That means you probably won't have the luxury of having a backup QB to turn to if he's a surprise inactive unless you own Matt Leinart, or Joe Flacco, who plays on Monday night. If you own Aaron Rodgers or Brett Favre, the other two QBs playing in the prime time games, they are better options than Warner this week.

Cardinals | Warner considered lying to team's medical staff    Tue Dec 1, 01:00 AM

Bob McManaman, of The Arizona Republic, reports Arizona Cardinals QB Kurt Warner (concussion) wanted to play Week 12 so bad, that he seriously considered lying to the team's medical staff about his concussion symptoms. Warner expressed anxiety about what his teammates thought of the decision to sit out the game. Warner said, "I can tell you I wrestled with it when I was going down to that room to talk to them (before the game), saying, 'Uh, do I want to stretch the truth a little bit? Do I not want to tell them everything so I can play?' Because I know I could dictate that."

Cardinals | Eye issue led to Warner's deactivation Week 12    Mon Nov 30, 10:42 AM

The Associated Press reports Arizona Cardinals QB Kurt Warner (concussion) had a problem adjusting his eyes Sunday, Nov. 29, which led to him being inactive for Week 12. 'Whatever you want to call it, it feels like a light sensitivity or my eyes just aren't quite adjusted right. That was the one symptom,' Warner said after the game. 'I had some tightness in my neck all week, so I think we were trying to gauge whether what I was feeling was coming from the issues in my neck or whether it was an issue with my head.' Warner said he woke up Sunday, Nov. 29, and the soreness in his neck was gone. But he didn't feel what he called 'perfect.'
