Patriots | Walter to be released Fri Sep 4, 01:31 PM
Adam Schefter, of ESPN, reports the New England Patriots have informed QB Andrew Walter that he will be released.
Footballguys view: As we like to say, things move pretty fast around here. Walter was just signed a couple of weeks ago and Kevin O'Connell was released. He has enough talent to land on a squad somewhere in the league, but may have to wait as every team is trimming their roster down. |

Bears | Were interested in Walter Sun Aug 9, 12:25 PM
Michael Lombardi, of The National Football Post, reports the Chicago Bears were interested in signing QB Andrew Walter, who went on to sign with the New England Patriots.
Footballguys view: The Bears have second-year quarterback Caleb Hanie as the current backup to Jay Cutler. Hanie played college ball at Colorado State and looked really good in the preseason last year. He performed so well in fact there were some in the Bears fan base calling for him to be the starter over Kyle Orton and Rex Grossman. While Hanie is tough and has good upside, he's inexperienced and it's not surprising the team would look for someone to compete with him for the #2 job. |

Patriots | Walter works with second team Thu Aug 6, 08:34 PM
Mike Reiss, of The Boston Globe, reports New England Patriots QB Andrew Walter worked with the second-team offense during practice Thursday, Aug. 6.
Footballguys view: By picking up Andrew Walter the Patriots are giving second-year quarterback Kevin O'Connell some serious competition for the backup position behind Tom Brady. |

Patriots | O'Connell and Walter battle to be the backup Wed Aug 5, 05:21 PM
Christopher L. Gasper, from the Boston Globe, notes that you know training camp is off to an uneventful start when after six days the biggest controversy revolves around backup quarterbacks. Tom Brady is healthy and entrenched as the starter, but there is some intrigue regarding who will be Brady's backup, as the Patriots brought in veteran Andrew Walter to compete with second-year signal caller Kevin O'Connell.
Footballguys view: Walter played with Randy Moss back in Oakland and threw a nice pass to his back shoulder for a touchdown his first day in practice. O'Connell was the backup last season when Matt Cassel stepped in as the starter after Tom Brady went down for the season. Walter is more of a pocket passer than O'Connell who has the athleticism to throw on the run and make plays with his feet. Undrafted free agent Brian Hoyer may be destined for the practice squad now that Walter is on the roster. |

NFL | Where will Walter end up? Fri Jul 31, 04:57 AM
Jerry McDonald, of ANG Newspapers, reports free-agent QB Andrew Walter (Raiders) could be an option for the Seattle Seahawks or Denver Broncos. Walter was happy to be released from the Raiders; he just wished it would have happened sooner so he could get a fresh start with another team.
Footballguys view: Jacksonville, Carolina, Minnesota, Denver, New England were mentioned as "logical" landing spots for Walter by Adam Schefter. He will be on a team very soon because there is always a shortage of passable QBs in the NFL, and even though Walter's numbers from his career in Oakland are terrible, he is still a member of that group. |

Raiders | Walter released Thu Jul 30, 08:07 PM
David White, of the San Francisco Chronicle, reports on his Twitter feed that the Raiders have released QB David White. Jerry McDonald, a Raiders beat writer for InsideBayArea.com, said Walter was "pleased, wished it would have happened sooner" on his Twitter feed. Lastly, Adam Schefter, of ESPN, called Walter a "good quarterback" and said he could "help in many cities."
Footballguys view: We don't expect Walter to be a free agent for long. He has good size and there is always the chance that he just needed to get out of Oakland to flourish. |

David White, of the San Francisco Chronicle, reports Oakland Raiders QB Andrew Walter said he does not know what his place on the team is at the start of training camp.
Footballguys view: With the addition of Jeff Garcia, Charlie Frye, and Bruce Gradkowski in the offense, the writing is on the wall that Walter's days with the Raiders are numbered. |

Raiders | Walter could be released soon Wed Jul 15, 07:05 PM
John Clayton, of ESPN.com, reports that Oakland QB Andrew Walter could be the odd man out at his position. The Raiders signed Jeff Garcia, Bruce Gradkowski, and Charlie Frye in the offseason, and Clayton thinks it is unlikely coach Tom Cable will go to camp with five veteran quarterbacks.
Footballguys view: We've only really gotten to see Walter while he was piloting a Raiders team that cruised to a 2-14 record in 2006. It's hard to say if he was as bad as he looked because he was on a team going nowhere. We would imagine that he'll get a shot in someone else's camp if the Raiders do release him. |
