Packers | Seneca Wallace not expected to return Mon Jan 6, 03:00 PM
The Green Bay Packers are not expected to re-sign impending free-agent QB Seneca Wallace this offseason.
Footballguys view: Zero surprise here. The Packers will have to be mindful of their backup quarterback situation. They lost Aaron Rodgers for part of the season and weren't the same without him. Green Bay needs a quality backup player behind Rodgers. |

The Green Bay Packers officially signed free-agent QB Matt Flynn (Bills) to an undisclosed deal Tuesday, Nov. 12, and placed QB Seneca Wallace (groin) on the season-ending Injured Reserve in a corresponding move.

Green Bay Packers QB Seneca Wallace (groin) is headed to Injured Reserve due to his groin injury.
Footballguys view: The Packers are moving forward with Scott Tolzien as their starter while Aaron Rodgers is out. The just signed Matt Flynn to be his primary backup. Tolzien has shown enough on the field to give this offense buoyancy. Don't bail on Packers receivers just because of this quarterback issue. |

Packers | Aaron Rodgers week-to-week Tue Nov 5, 06:07 PM
The Green Bay Packers are considering QB Aaron Rodgers (collarbone) to be week-to-week as he recovers from a fractured clavicle to his left shoulder.
Footballguys view: We won't see Rodgers until the end of this month (at the earliest). Most expect that he will be back for the team's Thanksgiving game against the Lions. Seneca Wallace will be prepared as the starter in Week 10 against the Philadelphia Eagles. |

Rodgers did acknowledge that 'it's a significant injury.' He said the pain was 'considerably more' than he's felt in a while. Rodgers is still going through the testing process.
Footballguys view: Seneca Wallace will get the first-team repetitions in practice this week and enter Week 10 against the Philadelphia Eagles as the starting quarterback. Scott Tolzien was activated off the practice squad and will be his primary backup. |

49ers | Seneca Wallace signed Thu Aug 22, 02:07 PM

Footballguys view: Wallace was out of football in 2012 and failed to impress during his time with the Saints in training camp. The 49ers have not been happy with the backup QB competition. Wallace will compete with rookie B.J. Daniels (USF), Colt McCoy, and Scott Tolzien to be the primary backup behind Colin Kaepernick. |

Daniels establish a pecking order behind starter Colin Kaepernick. The 49ers are looking for an upgrade to what they currently have and Wallace is an interesting option. He was struggling with the Saints and that's why they let him go. |

Saints | Heated battle for No. 2 QB job Wed Jul 31, 12:11 PM
New Orleans Saints QBs Luke McCown and Seneca Wallace are getting equal reps with the second-team offense, as they battle for the primary backup job behind starting QB Drew Brees.
Footballguys view: McCown is at camp with the Saints for the second consecutive year which could make him the slight favorite in this competition. Wallace was out of football last year and has been slowed recently by a groin injury. Brees has been incredibly durable since joining the Saints in 2006 and has only missed one game during his time in New Orleans. |

Saints | Three vying for backup QB duties Sun Jun 9, 08:13 PM
The New Orleans Saints have QBs Ryan W. Griffin, Luke McCown and Seneca Wallace in camp, each vying for the primary backup job behind starting QB Drew Brees.
Footballguys view: The team could go with a veteran like Wallace or McCown as the primary backup behind Brees. However, we love the upside of Griffin in super deep dynasty leagues. Our very own Cecil Lammey and Sigmund Bloom came away impressed by Griffin when they watched him during the week of practice for the Texas vs. The Nation Game earlier this year. He's your classic pocket passer with enough athleticism to climb the ladder and avoid pressure. Griffin has a strong arm and is known as a smart player. |

Browns | Colt McCoy battling for backup job Tue Aug 21, 06:19 PM
Cleveland Browns QB Colt McCoy is still battling for the backup quarterback job with QB Seneca Wallace. McCoy was more accurate than Wallace Tuesday, Aug. 21, but McCoy lacks the same velocity as QB Brandon Weeden, who is expected to start. 'When I first got diagnosed with this,' McCoy said, 'the doctor said it was a two- to three-year recovery. OK? So now I'm getting to that point, and my shoulder feels really good. The ball's coming out well. There's a lot of zip on it.'
Footballguys view: We still say McCoy is on the trade block for the right price. Weeden is the clear starter and the team would want to avoid any QB controversy if their first-round pick struggles early this year. |

Browns | Have decision to make on Seneca Wallace Sun Jun 24, 08:19 PM
The Cleveland Browns are expected to trade QB Colt McCoy at some point, but they are likely to make a decision on QB Seneca Wallace, too. The team drafted QB Brandon Weeden as the presumed starter, and the club needs to figure out whether they want to pay Wallace $2.4 million for the upcoming season.
Footballguys view: Wallace is more expensive to keep around than McCoy, but he wouldn't be a controversial backup. We think McCoy gets traded when training camp hits and other teams suffer injuries at the QB position. Teams like Dallas or Green Bay could be interested in McCoy. |

Browns | Brandon Weeden ready to compete for starting job Mon May 14, 09:31 AM
Cleveland Browns QB Brandon Weeden said he is ready to compete with QBs Colt McCoy and Seneca Wallace for the starting quarterback job after taking part in his first rookie minicamp. 'Absolutely, I think we're just going to compete,' Weeden said. 'Nothing will change. I know Colt (is) a good guy. I know Seneca is a good guy. I met Seneca, so I'm looking forward to just being part of the other quarterbacks.'
Footballguys view: The Browns have stated Weeden isn't going to be handed the starting job, but he must win the job in training camp. The soon to be 29-year old rookie doesn't have time to sit and develop, so he should likely be the week 1 starter for the Browns. |

Browns | Brandon Weeden must earn starting job Wed May 9, 08:59 AM
Cleveland Browns president Mike Holmgren said rookie QB Brandon Weeden must earn the team's starting job this season; he'll still have to beat out QBs Colt McCoy and Seneca Wallace for the job. 'We drafted a young quarterback that we think can come in and play right away, but we're not just going to hand him the football,' Holmgren said. 'I still love Colt McCoy (but) we had a chance to get a mature quarterback who has a chance to come in and contribute right away. Whether that happens or not we have to let it play out.'
Footballguys view: The Browns didn't take Weeden in the first-round so he could sit behind McCoy and develop. His age is also a big factor as he'll turn 29 during his rookie season. The team needs Weeden to win this job so he can start right away and gain valuable experience. |

Cleveland Browns QB Seneca Wallace said he intends to ask head coach Pat Shurmur for a chance to compete for the team's starting quarterback job next season during his exit interview Monday, Jan. 2. 'I think we all know at the end of the day, we don't want to sit here and keep trying to grind with bringing in a young quarterback and having to go through those growing pains,' Wallace said. 'You guys have been hard on us all season long, and what we need is to win and win now, and that's one of the biggest things is, whoever gives us that opportunity to do that, I think that should be the decision.'
