Vikings | Javon Walker released    Sat Sep 4, 05:53 PM

The Minnesota Vikings have released WR Javon Walker, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune's Judd Zulgad.

Footballguys view: Walker scored a touchdown in the final preseason game against the Broncos, but we guess beating Alphonso Smith doesn't count for much.

Vikings | Javon Walker catches touchdown pass    Sun Aug 29, 02:58 AM

New Minnesota Vikings WR Javon Walker caught a 25-yard touchdown Saturday, Aug. 28, against the Seattle Seahawks. He finished the game with two receptions for 32 yards.

Footballguys view: Before you get too excited, know that the touchdown pass came from Sage Rosenfels, not Brett Favre. Walker is still in a fight just to make the Vikings roster.

Vikings | No issues between Brett Favre, Javon Walker    Thu Aug 26, 04:12 PM

Minnesota Vikings QB Brett Favre and WR Javon Walker have no lingering issues over Favre's comments publicly criticizing Walker for complaining about his contract in 2005, reports 1500ESPN.com's Tom Pelissero. 'There was never any hatchet to bury,' said Favre. 'Javon and I are good friends, and we stayed in contact long after he left. That makes for good TV stuff. He and I are fine, and I think he can help us. I want him to have a great year - he deserves it. He's a great guy, and what happened in the past is long over.'

Vikings | Javon Walker linked to suspected PED supplier    Tue Aug 24, 02:11 PM

Minnesota Vikings WR Javon Walker underwent cartilage replacement surgery in Jerusalem in March 2009, which was performed Dr. Anthony Galea, who was suspected of providing performance-enhancing drugs to professional athletes, report Don Van Natta Jr., Michael S. Schmidt and Ian Austen, of The New York Times. Walker had to have the surgery in Jerusalem because the procedure was not approved in the United States or Canada. Walker said he had the surgery in Jerusalem because the recovery time was half of what it would have been if he had the procedure recommended by doctors in the United States.

Vikings | Javon Walker signed    Tue Aug 24, 12:25 PM

The Minnesota Vikings have signed free-agent WR Javon Walker (Raiders), the team announced Tuesday, Aug. 24. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Walker gets to catch passes from Brett Favre once again. With Sidney Rice likely to miss the first half of the regular season the Vikings needed to add some help to the WR corps.

Vikings | Rice could miss half season, hip surgery likely    Tue Aug 24, 08:53 AM

Judd Zulgad, of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, reports that Vikings WR Sidney Rice visited the Steadman Clinic on Monday, August 23, and he is likely to hip surgery, according to people with knowledge of the situation. Rice could be sidelined for the first half of the season because of the surgery, which was recommended by two of the three specialists he visited in the offseason after he injured the hip in the NFC title game.

Footballguys view: Bernard Berrian is the healthiest WR in Minnesota, and he deserves to be moved up to the ninth or 10th round on your board. Percy Harvin's collapse was apparently not related to his migraines, and although he comes with risk, his upside justifies a pick in the sixth round or so. Favre's old target from the Packer days, Javon Walker, has not been signed yet, but he becomes a guy to monitor if he makes the opening day roster. Even Visanthe Shiancoe should get a small bump on this news. Rice showed us in 2008 that he is not a fast healer, so taking him any higher than your WR5 is not advisable.

Vikings | To sign Javon Walker    Mon Aug 23, 11:54 AM

The Minnesota Vikings are planning to sign free-agent WR Javon Walker (Raiders) Monday, Aug. 23, reports ESPN's Adam Schefter, according to a source close to the situation.

Footballguys view: Wow. Favre gets to throw to Walker once again. The Vikings lost backup WR Jaymar Johnson for the season because of a thumb injury, so it's not a surprise they would sign a veteran like Walker at this point of the preseason.

NFL | Walker's changed since Vegas robbery    Fri Apr 16, 07:57 PM

The Associated Press reports Former NFL player Javon Walker testified Thursday that he's changed his ways since he was robbed of diamond jewelry and thousands of dollars, and left badly injured a block off the Las Vegas Strip almost two years ago. "You've made some changes in your life since the events of June 16, 2008?" prosecutor Joshua Tomsheck asked the 31-year-old former Oakland Raiders wide receiver. "Lots of changes," Walker responded from the witness stand where he admitted "bad judgment" in a drunken state put him in a vehicle with two men he didn't know after a night club-hopping in Las Vegas. "Do you still wear the same kind of flashy jewelry?" Tomsheck asked. "No I don't," Walker replied.

NFL | J. Walker willing to take league minimum     Wed Mar 31, 04:36 PM

Jerry McDonald, of ANG Newspapers, reports unrestricted free-agent WR Javon Walker (Raiders) said during an interview that he would be willing to take the league minimum or an incentive-laden contract if a team is willing to give him a chance to play.

Footballguys view: Javon Walker is at the point many players get to - the end of the road. It's a young man's game, and Walker hasn't done much in recent years. He may get a chance to make a team in training camp, but we're not expecting much from him in 2010.

Raiders | Walker already looking better than last training camp    Thu Aug 27, 02:35 PM

Jerry McDonald, of InsideBayArea.com, reports that Oakland WR Javon Walker did good work in his second practice from the PUP list, and looked better than he did at any point in 2008 training camp. "He's a little rough with some of his assignments, but that's normal," head coach Tom Cable said. "He hasn't had a lot of work, but he's able to clear that because he's had so much experience. He's a really bright guy, and the net time you see him do it, he's fixed the mistake from the time before. We'll expect him to go after it Saturday."

Footballguys view: Walker isn't worth a late round flyer when you can spend that pick on injured teammate Chaz Schilens instead, but be ready to pick him up if he miraculously regains something like old form in the first few games of the season.
