Bengals | Settle grievance with Ben Utecht    Fri Jul 12, 11:28 PM

The NFL Players Association announced this week that former Cincinnati Bengals TE Ben Utecht (concussion) will receive roughly $925,000, after a long-standing grievance was settled between the two sides. An arbitrator ruled the team shouldn't have cleared Utecht to play after he suffered a severe concussion in training camp. Utecht is out of football now, and is working as a singer-songwriter.

Bengals | Utecht on IR, Sherry waived    Mon Aug 31, 01:11 PM

Joe Reedy, from the Cincinnati Enquirer, reports on his twitter feed - Bengals place Utecht on IR, Sherry waived on reserved/injured. Roster now at 75.

Footballguys view: The Bengals have had an injury plagued TE corps this preseason, but fantasy owners know the team doesn't really use their TE much. That could change with rookie Chase Coffman, who needs to overcome a foot injury before he can contribute in the NFL.

Bengals | Utecht could be out for the year    Mon Aug 10, 09:00 PM

Geoff Hobson, from Bengals.com, asks what decision does tight end Ben Utecht make after he meets the neurologists Monday and Tuesday following test to discuss his injury history? Is he out for the year or longer or does he come back? If he's out, that would give the team a blocking tight end in Daniel Coats and a receiving tight end in rookie Chase Coffman. The two remaining tight ends on the roster, '08 sixth-rounder Matt Sherry and college free agent Darius Hill, aren't blockers and the Bengals may decide if they have to go out and get one for the last spot at that position.

Footballguys view: The Bengals don't use their TE very much, but this is still a blow to the offense. Utecht is currently listed as second on the depth chart behind Daniel Coats. Rookie Chase Coffman could be a playmaker at the position, but he has to stay healthy and develop his pro game before we can expect big things from him.

Bengals | Coats first string tight end    Mon Aug 10, 06:55 PM

Joe Reedy, from the Cincinnati Enquirer, notes that on the Bengals first depth chart of training camp Daniel Coats is listed first, and Ben Utecht is listed as the second-string tight end.

Footballguys view: Both Coats (ankle) and Utecht (concussion) have missed time in training camp with injury. The Bengals aren't known to use their TE very much and fantasy owners have much better options out there. Until rookie TE Chase Coffman develops we say stay away from all Bengals tight ends.

Bengals | Utecht 100% and ready    Fri Jul 3, 05:48 PM

Ed Thompson, from Scout.com, reports that he's talked to Cincinnati Bengals TE Ben Utecht. He's 100% healthy and excited about the CIN offense this year.

Footballguys view: Utecht played in only 10 games last season (his first in Cincinnati) and scored a whopping 12 fantasy points. The Bengals don't use their TE very often and that doesn't seem to be changing this year either but that doesn't mean Utecht couldn't have a decent fantasy day here or there. Right now we're projecting him for under 20 catches on the season, so don't rush out to make a move for him in your league. Rookie Chase Coffman will also be breathing down his neck for playing time.
