NFL | David Tyree says career likely over    Sat Jun 12, 10:03 AM

Free-agent WR David Tyree (Ravens) said he is not officially retired; however, he knows it is very likely his career is over, according to Ralph Vacchiano, of the New York Daily News. Tyree spent last year with the Baltimore Ravens, but is currently a free agent and didn't sound like a person who expects to be in uniform next year. 'I'm not one of those guys looking to come in in Week 5,' Tyree said. 'I'm not really hung up on it. My career has been a tremendous ride if it's over ... The sacrifice that it takes to play at a high level is tough to do on your own. But we'll see how it works out.'

Footballguys view: Tyree may get a phone call if training camp injuries strike, but he's likely seen his last days in the NFL. He'll always be remembered for his amazing catch in Super Bowl XLII when he caught the ball against his helmet with Rodney Harrison draped all over him.

Footballguys view: Tyree is a vested veteran, and he will most likely have to wait until after the first game of the season to be signed. If he were to be signed before the start of the regular season, his entire salary for the year would be guaranteed if the team decided to cut him later.

Chiefs | Interested in Tyree?    Mon Sep 7, 10:22 AM

Bill Williamson, of ESPN.com, reports it would not be a surprise if the Kansas City Chiefs show interest in free-agent WR David Tyree (Giants).

'I talked to (assistant GM) Kevin Abrams this morning and he said it was a very tough decision for the team,' Clouser said. 'Like anyone else, it was a tough thing for David to hear. He's actually saying his goodbyes to his teammates right now.'

Footballguys view: One of the heroes from Super Bowl 42, Tyree knew the writing was on the wall when the Giants selected both Hakeem Nicks and Ramses Barden in the 2009 NFL Draft.

Giants | Tyree may have tough time making final roster    Tue Sep 1, 01:21 PM

Tom Canavan, of The Associated Press, reports New York Giants WR David Tyree (knee, groin, hamstring) has battled knee, groin and hamstring problems during training camp. His time with the team may be running short. Tyree did not even play in the team's last preseason game, and he did not practice Monday, Aug. 31. Tyree said he plans to practice Tuesday, Sept. 1, and is preparing to play in the team's final preseason game. The Giants have a lot of young wide receivers, who are also capable of playing special teams, which may make it difficult for Tyree to make the final roster.

Footballguys view: The Giants will always be grateful to Tyree for catching a pass against his head, with Rodney Harrison draped all over him in Super Bowl 42. However, it's time to move on, and with the youth and depth at wide receiver it will be near impossible for Tyree to make the final cut. If healthy, he could catch on with another team in the league, but should not be counted on at all in any fantasy league.

Steve Sarby, of The New York Post, reports New York Giants WR David Tyree didn't lose any ground in his battle for a roster spot during the team's preseason game Monday, Aug. 17, but he didn't make up any ground either. He desperately needs to gain ground on the team's stable of young receivers.

Footballguys view: Tyree will always be remembered for catching a crucial pass (against his helmet) in Super Bowl 42, but his time with the Giants may be coming to an end.

Giants | Tyree could be released    Tue Aug 11, 09:48 AM

Paul Schwartz, of the New York Post, reports New York Giants WR David Tyree (knee) will have a difficult time earning a final roster spot on the team this season, as there appears to be too many receivers ahead of him on the depth chart. 'It's not like it's a new thing for me,' Tyree said. 'Each year there's been a guy looked at ahead of me. Honestly, if I ever base my performance on how things looked, I would have been gone a long time ago.'

Footballguys view: Tyree is so valuable on special teams that he will surely get picked up by another team if the Giants do cut the Super Bowl XLII hero.
