Bears | Preseason to determine QB1 in Chicago    Tue May 26, 03:11 PM

Chicago Bears head coach Matt Nagy said Tuesday, May 26, QBs Mitchell Trubisky and Nick Foles will both see time working with the starters in preseason games.

Footballguys view: Trubisky was supposed to be the franchise quarterback for the Bears but he has disappointed as a pro. Foles has experience and a championship history. He's worked under Nagy before when he was with the Chiefs, so Foles may not take that long to get up to speed. In fact, Foles may just end up winning the starting job. We'll see how this shakes out in training camp.

Bears | GM "believes" in Mitchell Trubisky     Fri May 8, 12:19 PM

Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky still has belief of general manager Ryan Pace even though the quarterback's fifth-year contract option wasn't exercised. 'We've always had the approach that we're honest and we're truthful with our players and our staff, and we move on and we get to work. ...' Pace said Thursday, May 7, in an interview on radio station WSCR. 'Mitch gets it. Everyone's competing. Everyone's focused on better results. That's the entire team. That starts with me and everybody. We believe in Mitch -- that doesn't change. ... I think you can point to [cornerback] Kyle Fuller as a great example of a player that didn't get his option exercised. I think we would say it worked out well for him and for us.'

Footballguys view: This is all lip service after the team chose not to pick up Trubisky's fifth year option. The big question now is what team will give him a shot in 2021 the way the Raiders did with Marcus Mariota's incentive-laden two-year contract this year.

Bears | Mitchell Trubisky's option declined    Sat May 2, 05:06 PM

Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky will not have his fifth-year option picked up this offseason, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Zero surprise here. Trubisky has failed to impress as a starter for the Bears from his rookie season in 2017. The Bears traded for Nick Foles to compete with Trubisky for the starting job this year. Trubisky is now set to be an unrestricted free agent in 2021.

Bears | Mithcell Trubisky option not likely    Sat Apr 25, 02:14 PM

Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky is entering his fourth season, and while the team hasn't made an announcement on whether it plans to pick up his fifth-year contract option, league insiders believe Chicago will not. If the Bears pick up Trubiksky's option, the salary projects to top $24 million.

Footballguys view: The fifth-year option is guaranteed only for injury. The Bears could pick it up but if Trubisky gets hurt then they are on the hook for a big contract. Trubisky is going to have to compete with Nick Foles for the starting job in 2020.

Bears | Mitchell Trubisky on track for camp    Fri Apr 3, 07:31 PM

Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky (shoulder) is on track in his rehab and should be ready for training camp, according to general manage Ryan Pace.

Footballguys view: Trubisky is going to have competition for the starting job in camp. The Bears made a move to add Nick Foles, and he will push Trubisky to be at the top of the depth chart.

Bears | Open competition for Chicago's starting QB gig    Fri Apr 3, 11:34 AM

Chicago Bears QBs Mitchell Trubisky and Nick Foles will participate in an open competition for the 2020 starting quarterback job, according to general manager Ryan Pace.

Footballguys view: Trubisky has failed to play up to expectations, so the Bears made a move to add competition. We'll see if Foles can win the job in training camp. Either way, Trubisky is on his last leg with the Bears.

Bears | Chicago looking to create QB competition?    Thu Feb 27, 05:03 PM

The Chicago Bears are expected to add a veteran quarterback this offseason to push QB Mitchell Trubisky, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN Thursday, Feb. 27. Fowler adds the ideal candidate would have 'pedigree and extensive starter's experience.'

Footballguys view: Andy Dalton would fit here, but it's also possible a quarterback or two that we aren't expecting will become available after some of the free agents/trade targets find homes. Either way, Trubisky is in a do or die year with the Bears.

Bears | Mitchell Trubisky still the starter    Tue Feb 25, 10:01 AM

Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky was reaffirmed the starter by general manager Ryan Pace Tuesday, Feb. 25.

Footballguys view: The Bears want Trubisky to take a step forward this season. In 2019, Trubisky had a disappointing season but there were flashes that showed what he could be -- brief flashes that he needs to build on. The Bears give him an endorsement now but Trubisky is clearly on the hot seat.

Bears | Chicago could target QB during offseason    Thu Feb 6, 12:07 AM

Cincinnati Bengals QB Andy Dalton or impending free-agent Marcus Mariota (Titans) are two realistic options for the Chicago Bears when the new league year begins, in the opinion of ESPN's Jeff Dickerson, who predicts the team will look to acquire an experienced backup quarterback to push starter Mitchell Trubisky.

Bears | Mitchell Trubisky has surgery    Wed Jan 29, 12:41 PM

Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky (shoulder) had surgery to repair a partially torn labrum in his left shoulder.

Footballguys view: The injury was to Trubisky's non-throwing shoulder, and the recovery time is expected to be two months. That means Trubisky should be limited in OTAs later this year. However, he should be good to go and full strength by the time training camp gets here.

Bears | Mitchell Trubisky to remain starter    Tue Dec 31, 11:06 AM

Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky will remain the starting quarterback in 2020.

Footballguys view: Trubisky will be in a make-or-break year in 2020. He's been a bust for the Bears so far in three seasons and the team has him under contract through 2021 with the fifth-year option. He may have to undergo left shoulder surgery according to GM Ryan Pace sometime this offseason.

Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky completed 23 of 31 passes for 244 yards, three touchdowns and an interception in a Week 14 victory over the Dallas Cowboys. He also ran 10 times for 63 yards and a score.

Footballguys view: Trubisky is playing well enough to earn the starting job going into 2020 with a lot of possible options on the market in the offseason to give the Bears second thoughts. He finally is coming alive as a runner and should be confident heading into a matchup with Green Bay with the Bears playoff hopes still alive.

Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky completed 25-of-41 passes for 278 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in Week 12 against the New York Giants and he also rushed for a score.

Footballguys view: Trubisky threw an end zone pick and struggled early, but had a good second half and probably will keep his job through the end of the season on the strength of this performance. We'll get to see him on Thanksgiving against the Lions in a matchup that could get him some QB2/Superflex consideration.

Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky (hip) does not appear on the team's Week 12 injury report after practicing in full Friday, Nov. 22, and is expected to start Week 12 against the New York Giants.

Footballguys view: Trubisky will get the start vs. the Giants, in bad news for the Bears receiving corps. The team isn't going to use his hip injury as an excuse to bench him - at least not yet.

Bears | Mitchell Trubisky on the field    Thu Nov 21, 04:00 PM

Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky (hip) fully participated in practice Thursday, Nov. 21.

Bears | Mitchell Trubisky looking good    Thu Nov 21, 12:55 PM

Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky (hip) had a 'good' practice Wednesday, Nov. 20, head coach Matt Nagy said Thursday, adding that he expects Trubisky to practice in full again Thursday.

Footballguys view: Trubisky can look healthy and the Bears are rolling forward with him. After getting benched last week, Trubisky might be on a short leash for the Bears.

Bears | Mitchell Trubisky expected to start Sunday    Wed Nov 20, 03:21 PM

Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky (hip) practiced in full Wednesday, Nov. 20, and is expected to start against the New York Giants Sunday, Nov. 24.

Footballguys view: Trubisky's hip injury is not seen as serious. However, his play has been below average so the Bears might have a short leash for their young quarterback after he was benched in Week 11.

Bears | Mitchell Trubisky dealing with hip injury    Mon Nov 18, 01:21 PM

Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky (hip) suffered a right hip pointer when he was sacked at the end of the second quarter in Week 11 against the Los Angeles Rams, according to head coach Matt Nagy. Trubisky was pulled from the game late in favor of Chase Daniel, but Nagy insisted the move was made due to the injury.'Every decision that was made, it had zero to do with his play. It was completely based off his injury and where he was at,' Nagy said.

Footballguys view: Trubisky is the starter if he's healthy, but we'll see how long this hip injury lingers with him. Daniel is a seasoned veteran who has already started earlier this year when Trubisky was banged up. Adjust expectations for the Bears offense accordingly.

Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky completed 16-of-23 passes for 173 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions in Week 10 against the Detroit Lions.

Footballguys view: Trubisky got hot in the second half and the win probably staves off calls for his job for at least a few more weeks. He's not trustworthy in fantasy leagues against the Rams on the road next week.

Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky completed 10-of-21 passes for 125 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions in Week 9 against the Philadelphia Eagles. He also ran for 15 yards.

Footballguys view: We'll keep the benching watch going this week, although the team would be admitting their franchise quarterback isn't better than Chase Daniel. With few if any gimmes left on the schedule, the Bears are at crossroads and both directions lead to dead ends.

Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky will remain the starting quarterback for the foreseeable future, according to comments made by head coach Matt Nagy on Monday, Oct. 28.

Footballguys view: Trubisky is their starter but he's not playing well. They'll stick with him because he was such a high draft pick in 2017, but Trubisky has clearly taken a step back in his third year of starting.

Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky (elbow) is hopeful to return Sunday, Oct. 20, against the New Orleans Saints in Week 7 following the team's Week 6 bye, according to head coach Matt Nagy Monday, Oct. 7. 'He's feeling good,' Nagy said. 'I felt like the last couple days he's been in a good place. He's been a part of all the meetings, a part of practice mentally. Because that's just as important, staying involved mentally with your guys and with us. And now we'll just kind of see here, again the bye comes at a unique time. Here he is, he gets injured, so here's the bye. Now, he's able to use this and see if he's able to come back or not for the next game.'I hope he's back. But I don't know that. It could be something where it goes longer than that. I don't know.'

Footballguys view: The Bears have a bye in Week 6 and the plan all along was to try and have Trubisky ready after that. We'll know more about his status next week when the Bears get back to practice.

Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky (shoulder) is considered day-to-day because of his shoulder injury, but head coach Matt Nagy said Trubisky likely will not play in the Week 5 game.

Footballguys view: That means Chase Daniel should get the start for the Bears on Sunday. The game is in London against the Raiders, and Daniel should be able to handle things against that defense. With Daniel under center, we wouldn't be surprised to see him pepper RB Tarik Cohen with a lot of targets. Also, the Bears might emphasize the rushing attack with David Montgomery more in Week 5.

Footballguys view: The Bears have some time with Trubisky on the shelf but it may not be as long as originally feared. He will reportedly travel with the team to London in Week 5 but not play versus the Oakland Raiders, and there is optimism he will play following the team's Week 6 bye.

Footballguys view: The Bears won't want to throw 45 times in a game again this year. Trubisky was missing open receivers and otherwise got away with at least one decision that could have been an easy interception. He'll be on our benches against Denver next week.

Bears | Mitchell Trubisky progressing on reads    Wed Aug 14, 09:36 AM

Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky is 'way past' where he was last season in reading defenses, according to head coach Matt Nagy. Trubisky was not always in tune with reading blitzes and coverages because he was so worried about getting the play called. Now, he's playing off of instincts.

Footballguys view: Trubisky needs to take a step forward in 2019. Fantasy GMs may have something nice on their hands if Trubisky continues to develop as a pro passer. Trubisky has a current ADP of QB21 (14.01) in 12-team PPR leagues. He could easily outperform that draft position this season.
