Jaguars | Make roster move    Tue Oct 23, 04:32 PM

The Jacksonville Jaguars are expected to re-sign RB Keith Toston Tuesday, Oct. 23.

Footballguys view: Toston is a RB who is more quick than fast. We like him as a change of pace back but feel he would struggle if asked to carry a big load. Rashad Jennings will start with Maurice Jones-Drew (foot) out. Jalen Parmele will be the primary backup behind Jennings.

Jaguars | Keith Toston released    Sat Sep 8, 01:04 PM

The Jacksonville Jaguars have released RB Keith Toston.

Footballguys view: Toston is a speed back who has bounced around a little during his short pro career. He may find a home on a practice squad somewhere.

Jaguars | Two to miss time    Mon Aug 20, 03:50 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars OG Drew Nowak (foot) will miss at least a week because of a sprained foot. RB Keith Toston (hamstring) will miss two weeks because of a hamstring injury.

Footballguys view: Bad news for Toston who is trying to win a spot on the roster as a reserve RB. His game is built off speed and missing the next two weeks could get him bounced off the roster.

Rams | Keith Toston, others waived    Sat Sep 3, 08:16 PM

The St. Louis Rams have waived DB Timothy Atchison, LB Zac Diles, DB Tae Evans, DT John Henderson, T Kevin Hughes, QB Thaddeus Lewis, WR Greg Mathews, T Ryan McKee, DT Daniel Muir, DB Jonathan Nelson and RB Keith Toston.

Footballguys view: Diles was given a shot to win a starting outside linebacker job when he was signed, but he failed against Ben Leber and Brady Poppinga.

Rams | Six players released    Sat Sep 3, 01:31 PM

The St. Louis Rams have released RBs Keith Toston and Chase Reynolds, TE Fendi Onobun, OL Renardo Foster, LB Zac Diles and S Jonathan Nelson.

Footballguys view: Onobun failed to impress as a 'basketball to football' TE, but is extremely athletic and may get a look from another team. However, work ethic and attitude problems held him back in St. Louis. He'll have to mature in order to play up to his potential. Toston had some decent runs in the preseason, but with the addition of Cadillac Williams and Jerious Norwood the team didn't have any room for him.

Rams | Trio of RBs battle for carries    Sun Aug 14, 01:59 AM

St. Louis Rams RBs Jerious Norwood, Keith Toston and Cadillac Williams started their battle for the primary backup job to RB Steven Jackson. Toston had 11 carries for 64 yards and a touchdown in the preseason opener Saturday, Aug. 13, against the Indianapolis Colts. Williams also saw 11 carries, finishing with 40 yards and a score. Norwood had eight carries for 37 yards, and he added two grabs for nine yards.

Footballguys view: The Rams have the best set of backup RBs they've had in a long time. This could take touches away from Steven Jackson, but on the whole, it helps Jackson's fantasy stock because it greatly increases the chances of him staying healthy and not wearing down during the season.

Rams | Kenneth Darby works with starters Wednesday    Thu Sep 30, 01:09 PM

St. Louis Rams RB Kenneth Darby spent most of his time working with the first-team offense during practice Wednesday, Sept. 29, reports Bill Coats, of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. RB Keith Toston also saw some snaps with the starters during practice.

Footballguys view: If Steven Jackson can't play the Rams would use a RBBC with both Darby and Toston. Darby is the more complete back, while Toston is a good change of pace runner who is effective in space.

Rams | Could use committee approach at running back in Week 4    Tue Sep 28, 11:10 AM

If St. Louis Rams RB Steven Jackson (groin) can't play in Week 4, the team could try to get by with a tandem of RBs Kenneth Darby and Keith Toston, according to Jim Thomas, of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Spagnuolo termed the play of Darby and Toston 'real solid' in Week 3, and said he'd be fine with that combo if Jackson wasn't ready. 'Based on (Sunday), yeah, how could I not be?' Spagnuolo said.

Rams | Steven Jackson not expected to play much in preseason    Fri Aug 13, 01:36 PM

St. Louis Rams RB Steven Jackson is not expected to play much at all in the preseason this year, according to The Associated Press.

Footballguys view: There's no need to get Jackson a ton of work in the preseason. He's a seasoned veteran who is coming off back surgery in April and the team's biggest weapon. In the meantime Kenneth Darby, Chris Ogbonnaya, and undrafted rookie Keith Toston will compete to be the backup behind Jackson.

Rams | Keith Toston improving    Fri Aug 6, 06:44 PM

St. Louis Rams RB Keith Toston (concussion) passed one of his concussion tests Friday, Aug. 6, but he still has to pass one more before he'll be cleared to return, reports StLouisRams.com's Nick Wagoner.

Footballguys view: Toston is missing valuable time that he could use to gain on Kenneth Darby and Chris Ogbonnaya to land a roster spot and chance to back up Steven Jackson.

Rams | Backup RB situation remains worrisome    Sat Jul 3, 03:14 PM

Dan Arkush, from ProFootballWeekly.com, reports the Rams have many concerns after coming off a one-win season in 2009. According to their sources, the team is concerned about the lack of quality depth behind RB Steven Jackson. A team source told them "Spags (Rams head coach Steve Spagnuolo) said it was no big deal (not drafting a RB), but Jackson is coming off (April 15) back surgery, and you just never know when running backs might hit that wall. It's been two years now that they've had to run Jackson to death, and it just seems very puzzling that they haven't made more of an effort to find a decent backup."

Footballguys view: The Rams currently have Kenneth Darby, Chris Ogbonnaya, and undrafted rookie free agent Keith Toston (Oklahoma State) behind Jackson. Toston may be the one to watch in this battle of the backups. Our very own Cecil Lammey saw Toston up close during the week of practice for the Shrine Game earlier this year in Orlando and came away impressed. Toston doesn't have the skill set to be a feature back, but is explosive and elusive enough to be a fine complementary back.

Rams | Competition for #2 RB job up for grabs?    Sun May 23, 03:27 PM

Howard Balzer, from the St. Louis Globe-Democrat, reports with Steven Jackson not participating in the OTAs, Kenneth Darby and Chris Ogbonnaya are the first two backs getting carries, followed by undrafted free agent Keith Toston. Ogbonnaya showed some flashes when he got the opportunity at the end of last season, with 11 carries for 50 yards and one 19-yard reception, and could be a surprise contender for the backup spot behind Jackson if no other additions occur. The personnel department remains on the lookout for a back, and former Eagles runner Brian Westbrook is expected to make a decision this week on his next team. When head coach Steve Spagnuolo was asked if he thought Ogbonnaya has the ability to be a No. 2 back, he said, "Well, they should all think that way. Any back that comes in here should be competing for that, so we'll wait and see what happens."

Footballguys view: That's not exactly a ringing endorsement for the second-year running back, and according to the report there are team insiders who believe that Jackson's backup is not currently on the roster.

Rams | Eight undrafted rookie free agents signed    Sun Apr 25, 09:56 PM

The St. Louis Rams have signed undrafted rookie free-agents RB Keith Toston (Oklahoma State), RB DeMaundray Woolridge (Idaho), WR Brandon McRae (Mississippi State), WR Rod Owens (Florida State), QB Thaddeus Lewis (Duke), TE Jamie McCoy (Texas A&M) and S Jeromy Jones (Idaho), reports Jim Thomas, of The St. Louis Post-Dispatch. RB Alex Henderson (Northern Arizona) has been signed to tryout at the team's rookie minicamp.

Footballguys view: Toston is a quality third-down back, and he has a chance to make the Rams opening day roster because of their lack of depth at RB.

NFL | Six from Oklahoma State invited to NFL Combine    Wed Feb 3, 12:23 AM

NFLCombine.net reports Oklahoma State FS Lucien Antoine, WR Dez Bryant, CB Perrish Cox, OT Russell Okung, QB Zac Robinson and RB Keith Toston have been invited to participate in the 2010 NFL Scouting Combine Feb. 24 to March 2.

Footballguys view: Bryant is thought by many to be the best receiver in this draft class because of his amazing hands and body control. Robinson surprised some scouts with his solid performance at the Senior Bowl, and he could develop into a solid backup at the next level. Toston had a solid showing at the Shrine Game, but is not likely to be a feature back in the pros.
