Redskins | Pierre Thomas an option for Washington    Wed May 25, 12:51 AM

Free-agent RB Pierre Thomas (Redskins) is still receiving interest from the Washington Redskins, but Thomas may want to wait until the season begins before signing with a team like he did last season.

Footballguys view: Thomas proved last year at the end of the season (specifically in Week 16 against the Eagles) that he still has a little something left in the tank. Washington is set with Matt Jones as their starter, and we like rookie Keith Marshall as a potential starter someday. If Thomas is added, the team would likely use him as a change-of-pace back only.

Redskins | Pierre Thomas could return    Wed Mar 23, 08:48 PM

Free-agent RB Pierre Thomas (Redskins) has maintained contact with the Washington Redskins this offseason, but he probably would not re-sign until after the 2016 NFL Draft if the team wants him back.

Redskins | Matt Jones iffy for Sunday    Thu Jan 7, 07:48 PM

Washington Redskins RB Matt Jones (hip) was limited in practice for the second straight day Thursday, Jan. 7, and he said that he 'probably' wouldn't be able to play if the team's game was on Thursday. 'I can run and do drills, but certain moves, I can't make,' Jones said. 'I'm still trying to find if I can play through it or not. If I do a cut and feel it, I'm going to try to see if I can push through it and tolerate it to see.' RB Pierre Thomas was used as the backup to RB Alfred Morris the last two weeks, while RB Chris Thompson also saw limited work. Head coach Jay Gruden expects to make a decision on Jones either Friday, Jan. 8, or Saturday, Jan. 9.

Footballguys view: We think Morris is the guy here and he has some nice RB1 value. We may have to wait a little longer to find out about Jones, which can be a problem at sites which lock their lineups upon kickoff of the first game, but we'd roll with Morris anyway. Even if Jones plays he isn't 100 percent and so Morris will get carries.

Redskins | Friday practice report for Week 17    Fri Jan 1, 06:00 PM

Washington Redskins CB Quinton Dunbar (quadriceps) and S Dashon Goldson (shoulder, ribs) have been ruled out of the Week 17 game against the Dallas Cowboys, and LB Perry Riley Jr. (foot) is listed as doubtful. CB DeAngelo Hall (calf), DE Jason Hatcher (neck, knee), OT Trent Williams (knee, foot) and RB Pierre Thomas (knee) are questionable for the game against Dallas, and LB Will Compton (shin), CB Will Blackmon (shin, hip), WR Ryan Grant (abdomen), C Josh LeRibeus (ankle), OT Morgan Moses (ankle), LB Keenan Robinson (shoulder) and RB Chris Thompson (shoulder) are probable. Dunbar, Goldson and Williams did not practice Friday, Jan. 1. Hall, Hatcher, Thomas and Riley Jr. were limited during practice Friday, and Compton, Blackmon, Grant, LeRibeus, Moses, Robinson and Thompson fully practiced.

Redskins | Pierre Thomas may play in Week 14    Sat Dec 12, 11:39 AM

Washington Redskins RB Pierre Thomas could receive some playing time against the Chicago Bears in Week 14 even though he joined the team earlier this week and participated in one practice, according to head coach Jay Gruden.

Footballguys view: Even if he does play, we're not expecting much from Thomas. The seasoned veteran is a good all-purpose back, but not much of a fantasy factor with his new team.

Redskins | Pierre Thomas joins Washington    Fri Dec 11, 11:32 AM

Free-agent RB Pierre Thomas (49ers) was signed by the Washington Redskins Friday, Dec. 11.

Footballguys view: So much for a Saints/Thomas reunion. Chris Thompson is likely out for this week, if not the year, so Thomas will fill in some on passing downs to take Thompson's spot.

49ers | Pierre Thomas released    Tue Nov 10, 11:57 AM

San Francisco 49ers RB Pierre Thomas was released Tuesday, Nov. 10.

Footballguys view: Well, that was quick. Thomas was picked up last week, and he played four snaps (four carries, 12 yards) in the game against the Falcons. Thomas was replaced on the roster by Travaris Cadet. This isn't a good sign for Thomas landing a job somewhere else this season.

49ers | SF likely to use three RB attack    Wed Nov 4, 10:49 PM

The San Francisco 49ers are likely to use RBs Kendall Gaskins, Shaun Draughn and Pierre Thomas as their three running backs for the Week 9 game against the Atlanta Falcons.

Footballguys view: You've heard of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse? This is the three ponies of the slight disaster. None of these guys is likely to produce much this weekend both because they are new and because with Blaine Gabbert under center they will see a lot of stacked boxes. Hang on, that makes Gabbert the fourth horseman! It IS the apocalpyse? In that case, be doubly sure you avoid this mess. If you are desperate, use Plague - we mean Pierre Thomas - who we see as a RB4 at best. See? It's ugly.

49ers | Pierre Thomas replacing Reggie Bush    Tue Nov 3, 02:52 PM

San Francisco 49ers RB Pierre Thomas is essentially taking over for RB Reggie Bush (knee) as San Francisco's passing-down back. Thomas caught 45 passes last season, averaging 8.4 yards per catch.

Footballguys view: Thomas could be the most fantasy relevant back with the 49ers, but that's not saying much. Carlos Hyde is dealing with a stress fracture in his foot, Reggie Bush is out for the year with a knee injury and Mike Davis needs surgery on his broken hand. We'll see how the time/touches are split in the backfield going forward, but we are avoiding the 49ers offense like the plague.

Texans | Houston not interested in Pierre Thomas    Wed Oct 28, 04:27 AM

Free-agent RB Pierre Thomas (Saints), who was offered a contract by the Houston Texans in the preseason, has not been contacted by the team since RB Arian Foster (Achilles') was lost for the season, according to a source. The Texans plan to stick with the backs currently on their roster.

Footballguys view: Your choices are either 1) Alfred Blue who was unimpressive early this season with the lead back job and whom we have sitting as a low-end RB3 or 2) Chris Polk, who has some upside but is really an RB4. We guess there is also the safer 3) avoid this mess at all costs as well, and we recommend that.

49ers | San Francisco works out Pierre Thomas    Mon Oct 19, 05:18 PM

Free-agent RB Pierre Thomas (Saints) worked out for the San Francisco 49ers Monday, Oct. 19, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Thomas is a good veteran all-purpose back. The 49ers are dealing with a banged up Carlos Hyde (foot) and Reggie Bush (calf). They could just be updating their emergency list.

Texans | Houston offered Pierre Thomas minimum    Thu Aug 13, 09:26 AM

Free-agent RB Pierre Thomas (Saints) turned down a one-year, $870,000 offer from the Houston Texans last week, according to sources. The two sides could revisit talks.

Footballguys view: This is consistent with the Texans not being worried about Arian Foster missing the year, or even most of the year. If they are lowballing Thomas, that means they expect Foster to be back, or perhaps they really like Alfred Blue and Chris Polk. More injuries will happen at RB this month, and Thomas should eventually get more money from someone.

Texans | Pierre Thomas will not join Houston    Wed Aug 5, 12:40 PM

Updating a previous report, free-agent RB Pierre Thomas (Saints) was unable to reach an agreement with the Houston Texans after his visit with the team Wednesday, Aug. 5, according to his agent.

Footballguys view: This sounds like a money issue. The Texans would likely offer Thomas the veteran minimum, and he may feel like he's worth more. Stay tuned.

Texans | Pierre Thomas to workout Wednesday    Tue Aug 4, 06:49 PM

Free-agent RB Pierre Thomas (Saints) is on his way to visit the Houston Texans Tuesday, Aug. 4, and he is expected to workout for the team Wednesday.

Footballguys view: The Texans are going to be looking long and hard at free agent backs as Arian Foster (groin) is likely to miss a large chunk of the regular season. Thomas can still be a good all-purpose back and give them quality veteran depth behind Alfred Blue.

NFL | Pierre Thomas' hands among the best    Sun Jul 19, 10:35 PM

Free-agent RB Pierre Thomas (Saints) ranked seventh among running backs with 45 catches last season, and only Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell and Green Bay Packers RB Eddie Lacy graded higher at catching the ball, according to ProFootballFocus.com.

Footballguys view: Thomas is quite capable as a receiver out of the backfield. As we get into training camp, Thomas may draw some interest from teams looking for veteran depth. His all-purpose ability and team-first attitude may get him signed in the near future.

Redskins | Washington looking at Pierre Thomas    Thu Apr 2, 01:09 PM

Free-agent RB Pierre Thomas (Saints) has drawn some interest from the Washington Redskins as they look to give competition to RBs Chris Thompson and Silas Redd for the third-down role, according to a source. However, Washington will likely see what's available in the draft before proceeding with Thomas. Among the options the Redskins could look at in the draft are Nebraska RB Ameer Abdullah, Northern Iowa RB David Johnson, Miami (Fla.) RB Duke Johnson, South Carolina RB Mike Davis and Alabama RB T.J. Yeldon.

Footballguys view: Thomas is likely to have to wait until someone gets hurt before getting on a team, though franchises like Washington may pull the trigger earlier if they don't like what they see in the draft or OTAs. Thomas hasn't been a very good fantasy player over the last year or so and a third-down role for Washington shouldn't change that. If he gets it, he wouldn't be high on our list of players we want on our fantasy roster.

Saints | Three RBs on Saints' roster    Wed Mar 4, 07:29 PM

Updating a previous report, free-agent RB Pierre Thomas' (Saints) release by the New Orleans Saints Wednesday, March 4, will save $1.735 million against the salary cap, and he carries an $830,000 'dead money' charge. Thomas would have counted $2.565 million against the salary cap this year. The Saints currently have three running backs on roster: RBs Khiry Robinson, Edwin Baker and Tim Hightower. RBs Travaris Cadet and Mark Ingram are both scheduled to be free agents.

Footballguys view: With the moves at running back, Robinson is the player that benefits the most in the Saints backfield. He needs to stay healthy, but Robinson has the natural ability to be a quality starter and a 1,000-yard rusher.

Saints | Pierre Thomas released     Wed Mar 4, 06:47 PM

New Orleans Saints RB Pierre Thomas was released Wednesday, March 4.

Footballguys view: The Saints are about $20 million over the cap, so they will continue to release players as they maneuver to get in compliance before the start of the new league year. Thomas is 30-years old and the market for running backs is thick with talent. He could attract a bit of interest as a receiver out of the backfield with a part-time role.

Saints | Pierre Thomas leaves early    Sun Dec 21, 02:37 PM

New Orleans Saints RB Pierre Thomas (ribs) left the team's Week 16 game early after injuring his ribs and is considered questionable to return.

Saints | Khiry Robinson to be eased back in    Mon Dec 1, 05:51 PM

New Orleans Saints RB Khiry Robinson (forearm), who is expected to return in Week 14 against the Carolina Panthers, is expected to be eased back into the backfield, especially since RB Mark Ingram has done well in a leading role. RB Pierre Thomas also returned a week ago. Ingram rushed 23 times for 122 yards in the Week 13 win, which was his fourth 100-yard game with Robinson out. Robinson was running well before he was hurt, and his 5.2 yards per carry rank second in the league if he was eligible.

Saints | Pierre Thomas probable     Sat Nov 22, 02:54 PM

New Orleans Saints RB Pierre Thomas (rib, shoulder) was limited in practice Saturday, Nov. 22, and is probable for Monday night's tilt with the Baltimore Ravens.

Footballguys view: After missing about a month, Thomas is back in action. We like him as a low-end RB3/flex option. The Saints offense hasn't looked like what most expect recently, so getting Thomas back should certainly help. Mark Ingram is still the starter, and his workload as a runner makes him a low-end RB1.
