Giants | 13 players released    Fri Aug 31, 01:03 PM

The New York Giants have released DT Marcus Thomas, DE Matt Broha, WR Isaiah Stanback, TE Larry Donnell, LB Jake Muasau, LB Greg Jones II, OT Matt McCants, DE Craig Marshall, WR David Douglas, WR Dan DePalma, OT Selvish Capers, RB Danny Ware and DT Dwayne Hendricks.

Footballguys view: Ware has been with the Giants for five years and both Super Bowl titles. His release makes David Wilson the primary backup/committee partner with Ahmad Bradshaw, and also means Andre Brown has possibly come back far enough from his achilles tear to be worth a roster spot.

Broncos | Not expected to re-sign Marcus Thomas    Thu May 10, 03:33 PM

The Denver Broncos are not expected to re-sign free-agent DT Marcus Thomas this offseason.

Footballguys view: The changes to the Defensive Line continue for the Broncos. They already let Broderick Bunkley leave in free agency, and cut Ryan McBean before the draft. Thomas was offered a one-year deal by the Broncos earlier this year but is looking for something long-term.

Broncos | Have offered Marcus Thomas one-year deal    Mon Apr 16, 06:01 PM

The Denver Broncos have offered free-agent DT Marcus Thomas (Broncos) a one-year deal but Thomas is looking for a long-term contract. The two sides may continue contract negotiations in the future.

Footballguys view: Thomas has been with the Broncos since 2007 and carved out a role as a rotational DT over that time period. The market isn't white hot for his services so he may end up staying in the Mile High City.

Broncos | Interested in re-signing four free agent    Mon Jan 16, 02:10 PM

The Denver Broncos are interested in re-signing impending free-agent WR Eddie Royal, DTs Brodrick Bunkley and Marcus Thomas and PK Matt Prater this offseason.

Footballguys view: We think Royal is as good as gone. He wanted to be traded before the trade deadline but was unable to follow in Brandon Lloyd's footsteps. Royal has never lived up to the numbers he produced as a rookie in 2008.

Footballguys view: The Broncos get back DJ Williams, but they are still missing two of their two defensive playmakers. Chris Johnson is set up for a big day and Matt Hasselbeck's matchup is very good. Knowshon Moreno is active, but Willis McGahee should still see the majority of the carries.

Broncos | To be limited on defense    Thu Sep 15, 04:22 PM

The Denver Broncos will be missing several defensive bodies in Week 2 against the Cincinnati Bengals. DT Marcus Thomas (shoulder), D.J. Williams (elbow) and DT Ty Warren (triceps) are locks to be inactive. DL Elvis Dumervil (shoulder) said he won't play for the first few weeks, and CB Champ Bailey (hamstring) might also be out. If Bailey can't play, CB Cassius Vaughn will likely be the starting left cornerback, with CB Jonathan Wilhite playing the slot in nickel packages. DLs Derrick Harvey, Jason Hunter and Robert Ayers will likely rotate if Dumervil can't suit up.

Footballguys view: We like A.J. Green vs Cassius Vaughn more than we do Green vs Champ Bailey. The Broncos defense will have a hard time stopping Cedric Benson and the Bengals ground game.

Broncos | Trying to re-sign Marcus Thomas    Wed Jul 27, 01:22 AM

The Denver Broncos are trying to re-sign free-agent DT Marcus Thomas. The two sides have had trouble getting in the same area on financial terms so far, as Thomas played in a different system with the team previously and will have a new role in their 4-3 scheme.

Broncos | Thomas working on losing weight    Sat Mar 20, 03:58 PM

Mike Klis, of The Denver Post, reports Denver Broncos DL Marcus Thomas is working on losing weight because he wants to become a candidate to play at defensive end. He is working on getting down to 292 pounds.

Footballguys view: The Broncos have recently signed three new players for their defensive line (Jarvis Green, Justin Bannan, and Jamal Williams) so the competition for playing time on the front seven of the Broncos defense just got a lot tougher for a guy like Thomas. He has the physical talent to be an impact player on defense but has never lived up to his potential.
