Patriots | Demaryius Thomas could be PUP candidate    Sun Jun 2, 03:31 PM

New England Patriots WR Demaryius Thomas (Achilles) could start the 2019 season on the Physically Unable to Perform list because of his Achilles tendon injury, in the opinion of The Boston Globe's Ben Volin.

Footballguys view: The contract the Patriots gave Thomas far from guaranteed a roster spot, but if he can recover, he could start and be relevant in fantasy leagues. His progress will be important to monitor when calculating the first-year value of #32 overall pick N'keal Harry.

Free-agent WR Demaryius Thomas (Texans) reportedly agreed to terms on an undisclosed contract with the New England Patriots on Tuesday, April 16.

Footballguys view: Reunited with Josh McDaniels in New England, Thomas will fit nicely in their short passing game...provided he makes the 53-man roster. The veteran is four months removed from the second Achilles' injury of his career and no lock for the start of the regular season.

NFL | Demaryius Thomas involved in car accident    Sat Feb 16, 05:35 PM

Free-agent WR Demaryius Thomas (Texans) suffered minor injuries after being involved in a car accident in Denver Saturday, Feb. 16.

Footballguys view: Thomas was released by the Texans earlier this week and may not find much interest on the open market, especially coming off an Achilles' injury suffered during the season with the Texans. There's a chance that Thomas ends up retiring.

Jets | NYJ unlikely to consider Demaryius Thomas    Wed Feb 13, 08:32 PM

Free-agent WR Demaryius Thomas (Texans) likely will not receive interest from the New York Jets this offseason even though he has played for head coach Adam Gase before, in the opinion of the New York Daily News' Manish Mehta.

Footballguys view: Gase did great things with Thomas (and Peyton Manning) during their time in Denver. The Jets could use some veteran presence in their WR corps but it sounds like Thomas won't be an option. Thomas may not get much interest given his age and the fact he's coming off an Achilles' injury.

Texans | Demaryius Thomas officially cut    Tue Feb 12, 05:41 PM

Houston Texans WR Demaryius Thomas (Achilles') was officially released Tuesday, Feb. 12, with a failed physical designation.

Footballguys view: Thomas was traded to the Texans at the trade deadline last year but he was barely able to make an impact due to this Achilles' injury. His release created $14 million more in Houston's salary cap space.

Texans | Demaryius Thomas being cut    Tue Feb 12, 09:19 AM

Houston Texans WR Demaryius Thomas (Achilles') will be cut Tuesday, Feb. 12.

Footballguys view: At the trade deadline, the Texans sent a fourth-round pick to the Broncos for Thomas. He ended up getting hurt and could not contribute down the stretch. He has no timetable for his return from a torn left Achilles', but he returned from a torn right Achilles' in six months after his rookie season.

Texans | Demaryius Thomas may be cap casualty    Mon Jan 28, 08:17 PM

Houston Texans WR Demaryius Thomas is a candidate to be released this offseason since the Texans would save $14 million in salary cap space if he is released, according to Spotrac.com.

Footballguys view: Thomas should be released unless he takes a big pay cut and he might be waiting until the preseason to be signed as he comes back from an achilles rupture. His useful fantasy days could be over.

Texans | Demaryius Thomas not ready to retire    Mon Jan 7, 12:05 PM

Houston Texans WR Demaryius Thomas (Achilles') told the Houston Chronicle's Aaron Wilson he's 'not thinking about retirement' and 'would love to finish my career (with the Texans).'

Footballguys view: Thomas wants to stay with the Texans and he's got one year left on his contract. It's a helluva year on paper as Thomas is set to make $14 million in 2019...but there is zero left in dead money on his deal. That means he'll either restructure with the Texans or get released.

Texans | Demaryius Thomas hopes to return    Sun Jan 6, 04:03 PM

Houston Texans WR Demaryius Thomas (Achilles') said he hopes to return to the Texans next season.

Footballguys view: Thomas was traded to the Texans in 2018 and he made it through a few games before having his season cut short by an Achilles' injury. He's got a big cap number in 2019 and may have to restructure his deal if he wants to stay in Houston. Thomas is currently on the books for $14 million in 2019 but there is zero remaining in dead money. Expect him to rework his deal or get released this offseason.

Texans | Demaryius Thomas goes to IR    Mon Dec 24, 05:03 PM

Houston Texans WR Demaryius Thomas (Achilles') was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Monday, Dec. 24, according to a source. Thomas sustained a torn Achilles' tendon in Week 16.

Footballguys view: The Texans added Thomas before the trade deadline and he made some plays here and there. The veteran receiver is under contract through the 2019 season but he has a $14 million cap number in 2019 with zero in dead money. We doubt he plays for that number, so expect the Texans to release him or renegotiate the deal to lower his cap hit.

Houston Texans WR Demaryius Thomas (Achilles') was carted off the field after suffering what is believed to be a torn Achilles' tendon during the Week 16 game, according to a source. He is scheduled to undergo tests to determine the severity of the injury.

Footballguys view: Thomas is likely going to be a free agent with 14 million dollars due to him in 2019 and no cap hit if he is cut. The Texans need Keke Coutee now more than ever, and UDFA Vyncint Smith will also be called on after scoring a key touchdown today.

Houston Texans WR Keke Coutee (hamstring) and DE J.J. Watt (knee) were limited in practice for a third straight day Friday, Nov. 30, and are listed as questionable for Week 13 versus the Cleveland Browns. OL Zach Fulton (shoulder), WR DeAndre Hopkins (foot), DB Kareem Jackson (groin), CB Johnathan Joseph (ankle, knee) and OG Senio Kelemete (ankle) were limited in practice Friday but removed from the injury report. RB Alfred Blue (thigh), LB Dylan Cole (wrist, knee), CB Aaron Colvin (ankle), LB Zach Cunningham (knee), LB Duke Ejiofor (shoulder), LB Whitney Mercilus (ankle), LB Brian Peters (ankle), S Justin Reid (knee), WR Demaryius Thomas (wrist) and TE Jordan Thomas (hamstring) were full participants in practice Friday and no longer appear on the injury report.

Footballguys view: There's no sign that Watt is in danger of missing the game, but Coutee will be a game time decision and shouldn't be in lineups this week.

Texans | Demaryius Thomas catching up    Tue Nov 13, 01:00 PM

Houston Texans WR Demaryius Thomas spent the team's Week 10 bye catching up on the team's offense and playbook, and head coach Bill O'Brien said Tuesday, Nov. 13, that he's expecting bigger and better things from Thomas in the coming weeks after his three-catch, 61-yard debut in Week 9. 'We've got to be able to use him more, even more than we did,' O'Brien said via the Houston Chronicle. 'He had three catches. I think they were all basically almost on the first or second drive of the game. He's a very smart guy, excellent pro. He was in here last week, meeting extra on Thursday, Friday, trying to get some more of the offense down. Go out there (Monday), have a lot of plays we ran in practice, knew where to line up, change his position, change his identity by personnel, knew what to do. I think we're going to make a lot of strides with him from week to week.'

Footballguys view: Thomas has WR2 or flex appeal for Fantasy GMs with his new team. The Texans had a bye in Week 10, so Thomas should be more versed in the playbook than he was against the Broncos last time out.

Texans | Houston acquires Demaryius Thomas    Tue Oct 30, 01:27 PM

Updating a previous report, WR Demaryius Thomas (Broncos) was acquired by the Houston Texans on Tuesday, Oct. 30, in a trade with the Denver Broncos. The Broncos will receive a fourth-round draft pick in return, and the teams also will swap seventh-round selections.

Footballguys view: The Texans needed some help at the wide receiver position with the season ending knee injury to Will Fuller. Thomas may not be the player he used to be, but he could be the best no.2 receiver in the NFL. He'll start for the Texans opposite DeAndre Hopkins and may get a slight boost in his fantasy value because of the upgrade he's getting at quarterback. Catching passes from Deshaun Watson certainly sounds more exciting than catching passes from Case Keenum.

Broncos | Demaryius Thomas could fetch a third    Mon Oct 29, 11:05 AM

Denver Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas could probably be acquired for a third-round pick, in the opinion of MMQB's Peter King.

Footballguys view: That price tag could be a bit high. Thomas isn't quite the same player he used to be, but there might be a team out there in need of a quality no.2 wide receiver. The Broncos have Courtland Sutton to take over for Thomas if they trade him away.

Broncos | Demaryius Thomas targeted seven times    Sun Oct 28, 05:45 PM

Denver Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas registered just three receptions for 30 yards in Week 8 against the Kansas City Chiefs despite a team-high seven targets.

Footballguys view: Thomas has been lackluster for fantasy because he's sharing with two other strong receivers with Case Keenum as his quarterback. The Patriots are one of the teams mentioned in trade rumors, and while that would upgrade his quarterback, it would hurt his situation. He's not an essential hold in short bench leagues.

Footballguys view: Reports now indicate that Thomas is not going to be traded before next Tuesday's trade deadline. The Broncos need Thomas to come through in a big way as they're facing the high-powered Chiefs offense on Sunday. Thomas is a low-end WR2 or flex play for Fantasy GMs in Week 8.

The Denver Broncos have been listening to multiple trade offers for WR Demaryius Thomas, according to league sources.

Footballguys view: It sounds like one of Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders is likely to get traded before the deadline. Courtland Sutton shouldn't be on any waiver wires. Thomas's fantasy value could be helped if he is traded to a wide receiver-needy team.

Broncos | Demaryius Thomas on the field    Mon Aug 20, 02:26 PM

Denver Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas (wrist) is participating in practice Monday, Aug. 20.

Footballguys view: Thomas is set to be the lead wide receiver for the Broncos, and the passing game should be much more robust this year with Case Keenum starting than it was last year with the clown car they had at the quarterback position. We think Thomas has an appropriate current ADP of WR19 (4.07, 12-team PPR) but Fantasy GMs are still sleeping on Emmanuel Sanders (WR33, 7.04). If you wait at the wide receiver position, then either one of these Broncos receivers could be quality additions in a rejuvenated offense.

Broncos | Demaryius Thomas sidelined with wrist injury    Sun Aug 19, 10:07 AM

Denver Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas (wrist) did not play in the team's preseason game against the Chicago Bears Saturday, Aug. 18, because of a sore wrist suffered in practice, according to head coach Vance Joseph.

Footballguys view: There's no reason to think this is serious or will affect Thomas's play or availability for Week 1, but it would be comforting to see him play next week and look like his usual self. Second-round pick Courtland Sutton has gotten rave reviews this summer and if he starts at any point for Thomas, he could be an instant impact player.

Broncos | Demaryius Thomas changed his diet    Thu Aug 9, 09:40 AM

Denver Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas (hip) changed his diet in the offseason after reading about the relationship between inflammation and diet. He found out what his body was sensitive to, what inflamed his body and his hip and what supplements that were lacking or needed. He dropped from 228 pounds to 212 pounds and put the weight back on with a new workout program.

Footballguys view: Thomas, along with Emmanuel Sanders, will continue to dominate the targets, though rookie Courtland Sutton has had a great camp to date. Thomas seems to be in sync with new Broncos quarterback Case Keenum already, and there is a feeling he could end up getting back over the 1,000 yard mark this season. He's currently going off the board as the 18th receiver, 45th player overall and we are cautiously optimistic about his upside.

Broncos | Demaryius Thomas moving around    Sun Jul 29, 03:18 PM

Denver Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas is 'working everywhere, including as the Z receiver for the first time,' according to Lindsay H. Jones of USA TODAY.

Footballguys view: Thomas has been a little banged up this spring, but he appears to be healthy and no Broncos player is poised to benefit more from the upgrade to Case Keenum at quarterback than Thomas. He's a high floor, safe pick at ADP.

Broncos | Demaryius Thomas still confident    Sat Jul 7, 12:03 AM

Denver Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas said he needs to clean up some drops but still views himself as a No. 1 receiver.

Footballguys view: Last season, Thomas had his streak of 1,000 yard seasons snapped because the quarterbacks throwing him the ball were beyond bad. While he's not the receiver he used to be, we think the addition of Case Keenum will be a big help. That won't vault him back to WR1 status, but could put him in a low-end WR2/high end WR3 category.

Broncos | Demaryius Thomas sidelined by toe    Wed Jun 13, 03:13 PM

Denver Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas (toe) has not been allowed to participate in minicamp because of a sore toe. He wanted to practice Wednesday, June 13, but head coach Vance Joseph did not permit him to do so. Thomas will not practice Thursday, June 14, either.

Footballguys view: All reports indicate this is not a big issue. The Broncos want to be cautious with Thomas and not rush him out there for a June minicamp. Thomas is a seasoned pro who almost had 1,000 yards receiving last year even though the Broncos had a clown car at quarterback with guys like Trevor Siemian, Brock Osweiler and Paxton Lynch. With Case Keenum entrenched as the starter, we could see Thomas get back to his 1,000-yard ways (with perhaps 90 catches). He's a WR2 for fantasy owners in 2018.

Denver Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas (foot) tweaked his foot at minicamp Tuesday, June 12.

Footballguys view: Thomas has been looking good on the practice field up to this point. Nagging injuries have always been something Thomas has dealt with and played through...mostly at a high level. The team will take it easy on him with the plan to have him ready full speed at the start of training camp.
