Updating a previous report, Miami Dolphins WR Marcus Thigpen (hamstring) will play in the preseason finale Thursday, Aug. 28, against the St. Louis Rams. He hasn't done much at receiver in training camp and the preseason, but he is a valuable kick returner. The team is exploring other options, such as WRs Jarvis Landry and Damian Williams. If the team is comfortable with the alternatives, Thigpen's roster spot could be in jeopardy.

A replacement for Miami Dolphins WR Brandon Gibson (knee) is likely to come from the practice squad, since the Dolphins worked out several wide receivers and elected not to sign any. WR's Ryan Spadola and Nathan Palmer are the likely options. In addition, the Dolphins probably will use a combination of Rishard Matthews and Marcus Thigpen to fill Gibson's spot.
| Footballguys view: Whoever it is isn't likely to have much fantasy relevance, at least in the immediate future. The issues along the offensive line are hurting Ryan Tannehill's ability to get the ball out to his receivers and when he does it will remain primarily Brian Hartline and Mike Wallace who are the beneficiaries, though even they are struggling. Hartline has been a decent flex start while Wallace has been hovering as a WR3 for the most part. |

Miami Dolphins WR Brian Hartline is getting a look at returning punts at organized team activities. Hartline has never returned punts and will compete with RB Marcus Thigpen. "Possibly, but in what situations, I couldn't tell you," Hartline said of potentially returning kicks. "But they [coaching staff] made a point to tell me to go and catch punts every day."
