Chargers | Philip Rivers could be benched    Sun Dec 1, 09:58 AM

Los Angeles Chargers QB Philip Rivers could be in danger of being benched in favor of QB Tyrod Taylor if he has another poor performance in Week 13's game against the Denver Broncos, according to multiple sources. In the team's last two games (both losses), he has thrown seven interceptions and been sacked seven times.

Footballguys view: Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn knows Taylor from their days together in Buffalo. He's a good preemptive pickup in 2QB/Superflex.

Los Angeles Chargers QB Philip Rivers will be held out of the team's preseason opener Thursday, Aug. 8.

Footballguys view: It's the first preseason game for the Chargers, so this move is not surprising. QB Tyrod Taylor is expected to start and be backed up by Cardale Jones and Easton Stick.

Cleveland Browns impending free-agent QB Tyrod Taylor agreed to terms on a two-year deal with the Los Angeles Chargers Wednesday, March 13. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Taylor gets to back up Philip Rivers on a championship level team. Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn was with the Bills when Taylor was there, so there is some familiarity to build on.

Dolphins | Miami interested in Tyrod Taylor    Mon Mar 11, 04:56 PM

Cleveland Browns impending free-agent QB Tyrod Taylor is expected to receive interest from the Miami Dolphins during free agency, according to source. One source said Taylor is the team's leading candidate to serve as a bridge quarterback in 2019.

Footballguys view: The Dolphins are pretty much tanking in 2019. That makes Taylor a bridge to a potential franchise rookie quarterback in 2020. There is a chance that Kyler Murray (Oklahoma) falls the Dolphins in the 2019 NFL draft and that may tempt them to select him in the first round. If that happens, Taylor may not get long as the starter...if the Fins add him.

Ravens | Coach mentions two options at QB    Fri Jan 25, 06:05 PM

Baltimore Ravens impending free-agent QB Robert Griffin III and Cleveland Browns impending free-agent QB Tyrod Taylor are possible backup options for the Ravens next season, according to head coach John Harbaugh.

Footballguys view: With Joe Flacco likely cut or traded, the Ravens are moving forward with Lamar Jackson as their starter. That means they'll be in the market for a backup. Harbaugh said the team will want the quarterbacks to play a similar style to Jackson.

Ravens | Possible homecoming for Tyrod Taylor?    Fri Jan 18, 08:04 PM

Cleveland Browns impending free-agent QB Tyrod Taylor could consider the Baltimore Ravens a potential landing spot in free agency this offseason, according to ESPN's Jamison Hensley.

Footballguys view: The Ravens are moving forward with Lamar Jackson as their starter and finding a quarterback with a similar skill set (like Taylor) would be paramount. Taylor made his only Pro Bowl in 2015 when new Ravens offensive coordinator Greg Roman called the plays with the Buffalo Bills, and Taylor spent the first four seasons of his NFL career with Baltimore before leaving for Buffalo in 2015.

Ravens | Tyrod Taylor an option for Ravens?    Fri Jan 18, 03:18 PM

Cleveland Browns impending free-agent QB Tyrod Taylor could be an option for the Baltimore Ravens this offseason as a backup to QB Lamar Jackson, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Jamison Hensley.

Footballguys view: We could see that happening if the Ravens don't want Robert Griffin III back as the no.2 quarterback behind Jackson. Taylor had one of his better seasons when offensive coordinator Greg Roman was calling plays for him with the Buffalo Bills.

He is not going anywhere,' Jackson said Monday, Sept. 24. 'I think that is important.   Browns | No Monday practice for Tyrod Taylor    Mon Sep 24, 01:23 PM

Cleveland Browns QB Tyrod Taylor (concussion) did not practice Monday, Sept. 24.

Footballguys view: Taylor was replaced in the game by Baker Mayfield, and the rookie led the Browns to their first win in 635 days. It's a no-brainer decision to go with Mayfield from here on out and that's why he moved to the top of the depth chart. We'll see if Taylor can get cleared from the concussion protocol at some point this week.

Browns | Tyrod Taylor has solid outing    Sun Sep 16, 04:02 PM

Cleveland Browns QB Tyrod Taylor went 22-for-30 for 246 yards, one touchdown and one interception against the New Orleans Saints in Week 2. He also rushed for 26 yards on four carries during the game. ylo

Footballguys view: Taylor was adequate but really more of a dud on a big quarterback day. The Browns offense can keep them in games, but Taylor might be limiting them with Baker Mayfield on the bench. Taylor did complete a bomb to tie the game up late, but the offense isn't very dangerous with him at the helm. He'll get the underrated Jets defense next week.

Browns | Tyrod Taylor inaccurate in Week 1    Sun Sep 9, 06:46 PM

Cleveland Browns QB Tyrod Taylor completed 15-of-40 passes for 197 yards, one touchdown and one interception in the Week 1 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers while running for 77 yards and a score.

Footballguys view: Taylor was horrendous as a passer, at least in part because of the conditions, but he also made a key throw to Josh Gordon to tie the game and send it to overtime. His running ability was on display and Taylor should be a top streamer against the Saints next week.

Browns | Best yet to come for Tyrod Taylor?    Fri Sep 7, 11:14 PM

Cleveland Browns QB Tyrod Taylor has been 'all in' since joining the team, according to offensive coordinator Todd Haley, and Haley said he believes the best version of Taylor is still to come.

Footballguys view: Taylor has been a good starting quarterback, but we can't imagine him playing so well that he keeps the starting job for the whole season. He might..and likely will...get replaced by 2018 no.1 overall pick Baker Mayfield at some point this season. Even if Taylor is playing well but the team is losing, we all know Mayfield is the future and he'll be taking over eventually.

Browns | Tyrod Taylor practices on Saturday    Sat Aug 25, 02:12 PM

Cleveland Browns quarterback Tyrod Taylor (finger) is practicing on Saturday, Aug. 25.

Footballguys view: Taylor missed a few snaps after sustaining the injury, but he was able to come back into the game. His left hand is wrapped after suffering a dislocated pinkie finger against the Philadelphia Eagles in a preseason game on Thursday, Aug. 23. His status for Week 1 of the regular season is not in doubt. Taylor is the Browns starter for the beginning of the season, but we know Baker Mayfield is set to take over as their franchise quarterback at some point.

Browns | Tyrod Taylor suffered dislocated finger    Fri Aug 24, 01:39 PM

Updating a previous report, Cleveland Browns QB Tyrod Taylor (finger) was diagnosed with a dislocated left pinky finger Friday, Aug. 24.

Footballguys view: Taylor missed some time with this injury but came back in and played. He's still in line to begin the regular season as the starter for the Browns. At some point the team should turn things over to no.1 overall pick Baker Mayfield.

Browns | Tyrod Taylor to have additional tests    Fri Aug 24, 02:38 AM

Updating a previous report, Cleveland Browns QB Tyrod Taylor (hand) had X-rays on his left hand, the results of which were negative, and remained in the locker room for treatment during the second of the team's game Thursday, Aug. 23. Taylor is set to undergo more tests on his hand on Friday, Aug. 24, according to head coach Hue Jackson.

Footballguys view: Taylor shouldn't miss any regular season time due to this injury. He'll be the starter to open the year but we all know that at some point Baker Mayfield should take over.

Browns | Tyrod Taylor briefly leaves game    Thu Aug 23, 09:18 PM

Browns | Tyrod Taylor locked in as starter    Wed Aug 15, 08:53 AM

Cleveland Browns QB Tyrod Taylor will be the team's starting quarterback, according to head coach Hue Jackson. 'I have not changed. I'm not going to change,' Jackson said. 'Tyrod Taylor's the starting quarterback here, and Baker (Mayfield is) the future of our organization.'

Footballguys view: The Browns appear to have a plan to let Mayfield incubate on the bench for all or at least the better part of his rookie season to give him more time to grow before taking on regular season NFL defenses. The career arc of players like Philip Rivers, Jimmy Garoppolo, and Aaron Rodgers seems to point to the wisdom of waiting, and the Browns paid a lot in draft capital for Taylor, who seems plenty capable of leading a team like the Browns to wins after he took the Bills to the playoffs. We'll see if the Browns stick with their plan.

Browns | Tyrod Taylor perfect in preseason showing    Thu Aug 9, 09:17 PM

Cleveland Browns QB Tyrod Taylor completed all five of his passes for 99 yards and a touchdown, en route to posting a perfect 158.3 passer rating in the team's first preseason game Thursday, Aug. 9, versus the New York Giants. He also scrambled once for two yards.

Footballguys view: Taylor was flawless and should make the Browns much more competitive, in addition to generating fantasy value of his own. He's a fine Week 1 streamer against the Steelers in Cleveland with or without Josh Gordon.

Browns | Cleveland open to extending Tyrod Taylor's deal    Sat Aug 4, 10:38 AM

The Cleveland Browns are open to giving a contract extension to QB Tyrod Taylor, who is in the first season of a two-year, $30.5 million deal with the club. 'There may come a point where I call his representatives in October and say, 'Let's strike something up,'' general manager John Dorsey said to Kevin Clark of The Ringer. Dorsey went on to say that possible interest in keeping Taylor beyond the 2019 season would not necessarily mean QB Baker Mayfield wasn't pushing him for the starting job. 'Nah, let's deal with it when it happens,' Dorsey said.

Footballguys view: Backup quarterback is a position of underrated importance, and with Mayfield on a rookie deal, they could afford to overpay Taylor, but he would also be forgoing starter money elsewhere. This will be worth revisiting once we see how Taylor plays in the regular season.

Browns | Tyrod Taylor will receive first-team reps    Wed Jul 25, 03:08 PM

Cleveland Browns QB Tyrod Taylor will receive most of the snaps with the first-team offense during training camp, according to head coach Hue Jackson.

Footballguys view: Taylor should be the starter for the Browns...at the start of the regular season at least. Rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield has a lot of work to do according to Browns OC Todd Haley. When the Browns season is out of hand, we could see Mayfield take over as the starter since the no.1 overall pick is clearly the quarterback of the future.

Browns | Tyrod Taylor a change of pace for Cleveland    Tue Jul 17, 12:11 PM

Cleveland Browns QB Tyrod Taylor attempted 1,236 passes and threw 16 interceptions in his three seasons with the Buffalo Bills. By comparison, Browns quarterbacks threw 28 interceptions in 574 attempts last season.

Footballguys view: Taylor is one of the most efficient quarterbacks in the league. He doesn't take a lot of chances with the ball, either running or throwing the ball away in the face of trouble. Taylor is the heavy favorite to open the 2018 regular season as the starter even though the Browns spent the no.1 overall pick on QB Baker Mayfield. They've got a Week 11 bye this year, and that may be around the time that Mayfield takes over if he doesn't win the job outright in training camp.

Browns | WR impressed with Tyrod Taylor    Thu Jul 5, 04:25 PM

Cleveland Browns WR Jarvis Landry said QB Tyrod Taylor was very impressive during offseason workouts and showed good accuracy and leadership during practice. Landry said he believes Taylor will be the starting quarterback this season.

Footballguys view: So far, Taylor's ADP for the position is a rock-bottom No. 27, and it's likely due to a mixture of doubts about him, doubts about his team and excitement for Baker Mayfield. But Mayfield is reportedly not ready as of early July, and adding Landry to the dynamic Josh Gordon and a hopefully ascendant Corey Coleman could produce some solid results. We still say proceed with caution, and right now that QB3 ADP feels right, but he has upside, and might be worth a flier late.

Browns | Baker Mayfield not close to starting yet    Sun Jun 17, 01:44 PM

Cleveland Browns QB Baker Mayfield 'still has a long way to go' to unseat Tyrod Taylor as the starter, according to Ben Volin of The Boston Globe.

Footballguys view: The Browns could easily begin the season with Taylor as their starter...but Mayfield is going to get on the field sooner or later. The first-overall pick in the 2018 NFL draft, Mayfield has constantly proved doubters wrong throughout his football career and he's looking to do that now at the pro level. The Browns will need to be creative with the offense they design for him in order to use Mayfield's ability to create on the move.

Browns | Tyrod Taylor still starter    Sat May 5, 12:13 PM

Cleveland Browns QB Tyrod Taylor is still the team's starting quarterback even though they selected QB Baker Mayfield with the first overall pick, according to head coach Hue Jackson.

Footballguys view: Saying 'for now' would be best for Jackson and the Browns. Mayfield is an intense competitor and he can start from day one. We'll see how quickly he acclimates to the pro game, but it wouldn't be a shock to see him beat out Taylor for the starting job in Week 1.

Browns | Baker Mayfield unlikely to play in 2018?    Fri Apr 27, 02:40 AM

Cleveland Browns QB Baker Mayfield is expected to serve as the team's No. 3 quarterback behind veteran QBs Tyrod Taylor and Drew Stanton, according to ESPN's Pat McManamon.

Footballguys view: Mayfield says he knows nothing is owed him, but he's there to compete. Which says to us he's coming for their jobs. While Tyrod Taylor is likely safe -- until the Browns lose more than they win and the season looks lost -- but we can imagine Stanton being supplanted bu Mayfield in camp. There has been some murmuring about Hue Jackson not being on board -- and not knowing about the pick until yesterday -- which spelled doom for John Fox in Chicago last year and could for Jackson this year. Which might mean that the team could choose to keep Jackson away from Mayfield and allow the rookie to get his initial lumps from the eventual new coach.

'There are no 'bridge' players. This guy goes out and gets this organization to winning and gets us to the playoffs or whatever all that is, none of you guys would be writing 'bridge' anymore.' General manager John Dorsey added that he wants 'long-term success with Tyrod.'

Footballguys view: That's all well and good, but the Browns are taking a quarterback with the #1 pick.

Cleveland Browns QB Tyrod Taylor will be the starter this season and he will have no competition, according to head coach Hue Jackson.
