Cardinals | David Johnson a natural pass catcher    Fri Dec 4, 07:26 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB David Johnson has plenty of speed and has 30 pounds on RBs Chris Johnson and Andre Ellington, according to QB Carson Palmer. 'Straight-ahead speed, he's probably as fast as those guys. Those guys are definitely shiftier and quicker, but he just runs through people and through arm tackles.' Johnson excels as a pass catcher, too; Of his 171 offensive snaps this year, 67.3% have been pass plays, and he has 19 catches for 241 yards compared to 35 rushes for 139 yards.

Footballguys view: Johnson's best asset is his receiving ability. He showed it on film in college and during the week or practice at the Senior Bowl. Johnson is reliable as a receiver, and he's swift with the ball in his hands after the catch. As the lead back for the Cardinals this week, we like Johnson as a RB2 play with upside.

Cardinals | Stepfan Taylor No. 4 on depth chart    Tue Sep 8, 11:33 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Kerwynn Williams took the first-team repetitions Monday, Aug. 3, with RBs Andre Ellington (hamstring) and David Johnson (hamstring) out. RB Stepfan Taylor worked with the second unit.

Footballguys view: Williams is a fast back, but he's not built to play a starter's role. He's just filling in because guys above him on the depth chart are banged up.

Cardinals | Stepfan Taylor still starter    Mon Dec 8, 02:41 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Stepfan Taylor is still the team's starting running back, but Kerwynn Williams will still get opportunities.

Footballguys view: Fantasy owners are rolling their eyes here. Taylor didn't do much (six carries, 19 yards) in Week 14, while Williams rushed for over 100 yards. If there is a back with a skill set that closely resembles Andre Ellington, it's Williams.

Cardinals | Stepfan Taylor a flop in Week 14    Sun Dec 7, 07:36 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Stepfan Taylor made the start in Week 14 against the Kansas City Chiefs in place of the injured RB Andre Ellington (hip), but he had six carries for 19 yards and one reception for seven yards.

Footballguys view: Taylor was upstaged by the speedier Kerwynn Williams. He can be dropped in all formats.

Cardinals | Stepfan Taylor to start    Sat Dec 6, 08:54 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Stepfan Taylor will start against the Kansas City Chiefs Sunday, Dec. 7.

Cardinals | Andre Ellington ruled out    Fri Dec 5, 02:57 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Andre Ellington (hip, foot) has been ruled out for Week 14, according to head coach Bruce Arians. RB Stepfan Taylor will be the starting running back for the game.

Footballguys view: Taylor is still a deep "what the heck flex" with Marion Grice and Michael Bush also likely getting work in a lackluster running game.

Cardinals | Marion Grice could start Sunday    Tue Dec 2, 09:33 AM

Arizona Cardinals RB Marion Grice will likely start if RB Andre Ellington (hip) can't go Sunday, Dec. 7, in Week 14. RBs Stepfan Taylor and Robert Hughes would also be in the mix.

Footballguys view: Grice is a no-nonsense rookie back from Arizona State. Coming out of college, Grice was known as a speed back with exceptional quickness. He has good vision and the footwork to make defenders miss in the open field. Grice is not much of a banger, and he'll struggle to run through arm tackles. In Week 14, Arizona faces a Kansas City Chiefs team that surrendered over 200 yards rushing to the Denver Broncos last week.

Cardinals | Ellington could be out a while    Fri Sep 5, 11:35 AM

Arizona Cardinals RB Andre Ellington (foot) aggravated his left foot injury in practice Thursday, Sept. 4. He underwent an MRI and could miss a significant amount of time.

Footballguys view: This is proceeding by the typical script of a long absence reveal. Prepare for the worst if you own Ellington and definitely get him out of your lineups with a Monday night start until we hear positive news. Jonathan Dwyer would get the start with Stepfan Taylor mixed in, but if Ellington is out awhile then they could also sign or trade for another back. The Cardinals running game has been a fantasy black hole for a while and it could remain one for even longer. This would not be good for Carson Palmer, although rookie speedster John Brown could get a lot more looks in three-wide sets if Ellington is on the shelf for a bit.

Cardinals | Stepfan Taylor works with first-team    Tue Jul 29, 11:23 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Stepfan Taylor worked with the first-team offense in place of RB Andre Ellington (neck) Tuesday, July 29. Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com believes the move means that Taylor is ahead of RB Jonathan Dwyer in the battle for the No. 2 RB job.

Footballguys view: We're not surprised Taylor would be the next man up. He's a good all-purpose back who can stand out as a runner between the tackles or a receiver out of the backfield.

Cardinals | No clear backup to Andre Ellington    Tue Jul 15, 10:42 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Stepfan Taylor and RB Jonathan Dwyer will both be used to spell RB Andre Ellington this season, according to ESPN.com's Josh Weinfuss.

Footballguys view: Dwyer is familiar with the Arians system from their days together in Pittsburgh. Taylor has one year of experience under his belt, and he's a much better all-purpose back. We think Ellington gets as much work as he can possibly stand, leaving little for Taylor or Dwyer.

Cardinals | Jonathan Dwyer endearing himself to coach    Thu Jun 12, 07:00 PM

Cardinals | Bruce Arians elaborates on Andre Ellington's role    Fri Mar 28, 02:11 PM

Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians expanded on how the team plans to use RB Andre Ellington this year at the owners meetings this week. "He is still not a guy who you will pound up the middle 30 times a game and survive," Arians said. "He can run the football 30 times a game if you do it correctly, but you'd rather have him have 10 catches and 20 carries and let Stepfan Taylor or (Jonathan) Dwyer have the rest of the carries pound the rest of the ball up in there."

Footballguys view: It's good to get some clarity here as this is an important note for fantasy owners. Ellington should be their lead back, and he can be quite productive with his big-play ability. We won't see him push the pile, and perhaps the Cardinals will have a different back near the goal line.

Cardinals | Andre Ellington adds weight    Fri Feb 21, 10:33 AM

Arizona Cardinals RB Andre Ellington has added 10 pounds already this offseason. Head coach Bruce Arians said they want to build the offense around him.

Footballguys view: With Rashard Mendenhall set to hit the open market, it's wise for Ellington to pack on the pounds. It won't slow him down, and the team will still use some form of RBBC. Stepfan Taylor is the most likely to complement Ellington in the Cardinals backfield.

Cardinals | Confident in Stepfan Taylor    Thu Feb 20, 01:04 PM

Arizona Cardinals general manager Steve Keim is confident in RB Stepfan Taylor as a complement to RB Andre Ellington if impending free-agent RB Rashard Mendenhall leaves in free agency.

Footballguys view: Taylor is a talented player who could thrive with a larger role. He has the ability to contribute as a runner or receiver out of the backfield. We could see a tandem RB situation in 2014 lead by Ellington but also using Taylor as well.

Cardinals | Ryan Williams doesn't have a role    Tue Oct 8, 07:26 PM

It appears as though Arizona Cardinals RB Ryan Williams will stay inactive on game days unless there is an injury to a running back ahead of him on the depth chart. RB Stepfan Taylor has added value because of his importance on special teams.

Footballguys view: Williams has not made a positive impression with the new coaching staff. He should continue to be a healthy scratch moving forward. Williams will likely have to get his career on track with a different team. He has plenty of talent, so throw out a buy low offer in dynasty leagues.
