Indianapolis Colts RB Jonathan Taylor (thumb) said he will practice Thursday, Dec. 21, to determine whether he can play in Week 16. He said he'll wear a brace or a wrap on his thumb.

Footballguys view: Let's circle back on Friday to check in on Taylor's thumb. He needs to practice and see how the injury responds to increased work. Zack Moss (forearm) is banged up, so the Colts could use the boost Taylor's return to the lineup would provide. They're pushing for the playoffs and are on the road against the Falcons coming up Sunday.

Colts | Jonathan Taylor expected to avoid IR    Wed Nov 29, 01:40 PM

Indianapolis Colts RB Jonathan Taylor (thumb) is expected to avoid injured reserve after having thumb surgery on Wednesday, Nov. 29, head coach Shane Steichen said.

Footballguys view: We hope you got Zack Moss on the waiver wire...or you might have kept him in deep-bench leagues. Taylor will be out of action for at least a couple of weeks, but it sounds like less than four weeks will be missed if he's not going on IR. That means Moss will be the lead back, and he's got RB1 upside for Fantasy GMs.

Colts | Jonathan Taylor has thumb issue    Tue Nov 28, 11:57 AM

Indianapolis Colts RB Jonathan Taylor (thumb) suffered a thumb injury in Week 12 that will require further evaluation and put his status in doubt.

Footballguys view: Fantasy GMs need to keep an eye on this situation and grab Zack Moss off the waiver wire if he's out there. Taylor did play about half of the game in Week 12 against the Buccaneers with this injury. However, a thumb injury could cause a multi-week injury and we're near the beginning of the fantasy playoffs.

Colts | Jonathan Taylor scores twice in Week 12    Sun Nov 26, 07:25 PM

Indianapolis Colts RB Jonathan Taylor rushed 15 times for 91 yards and two touchdowns in Week 12 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was not targeted in the pass game.

Footballguys view: Taylor didn't have quite the dominance in the split between him and Zack Moss that we saw recently, but for fantasy he was still a force with a strong showing against a good run defense. The Colts have winnable games going forward, making Taylor a top five running back from here on out.

Colts | Jonathan Taylor reaches end zone    Sun Nov 12, 12:21 PM

Indianapolis Colts RB Jonathan Taylor rushed for 69 yards and one touchdown on 23 carries against the New England Patriots in Week 10. He also caught one pass for six yards during the game.

Footballguys view: The Colts backfield almost completely belongs to Taylor now. Gardner Minshew isn't threatening as a downfield passer, so Taylor will be running against heavy boxes, but he should be fresh for the stretch run with four fewer weeks of wear and tear after starting the season on the PUP list, a lighter load for a few committee games, and a bye to rest next week.

Colts | Jonathan Taylor making it happen after contact    Wed Nov 8, 02:40 AM

Indianapolis Colts RB Jonathan Taylor leads all qualified rushers with 2.3 yards per carry after contact, according to Pro Football Reference.

Footballguys view: Taylor has returned to the field with a thunder. He's one of the best backs in the league, and the Colts are going to go as far as Taylor can carry them this season. We hope to see the Colts stick with Taylor in the second half because they seem to go away from him a bit. However, he's going to get it done as a runner or receiver out of the backfield. That makes him an RB1 for Fantasy GMs out there in all formats.

Colts | Jonathan Taylor close to 100 yards    Sun Oct 29, 05:31 PM

Indianapolis Colts RB Jonathan Taylor rushed for 95 yards on 12 carries against the New Orleans Saints in Week 8. He also caught one pass for two yards during the game.

Footballguys view: Taylor was actually less valuable than Zack Moss today because Moss scored, but he was explosive and showed why we can't bench him even in a 50-50 committee on a losing team. Moss was a game-time decision going into this one, so Taylor could get the backfield to himself eventually if Moss's injury issues pile up.

Colts | Jonathan Taylor scores his TD of season    Sun Oct 22, 05:44 PM

Indianapolis Colts RB Jonathan Taylor rushed 18 times for a game-high 75 yards and his first touchdown of the season in Week 7 against the Cleveland Browns. He also added three receptions for 45 yards on four targets.

Footballguys view: This was the game that anyone who held or traded for Taylor was looking for, and Zack Moss still got the same number of carries as Taylor. This should put an end to questions about whether to play Taylor, even though he's still in a committee.

Colts | Jonathan Taylor posts 65 total yards    Sun Oct 15, 05:56 PM

Indianapolis Colts RB Jonathan Taylor rushed for 19 yards on eight carries against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 6. He also caught five passes for 46 yards during the game.

Footballguys view: At least Taylor was involved enough as a receiver to salvage a viable fantasy game in PPR leagues. He was supposed to get more work this week, but this still looks like a 50-50 RBBC with Zack Moss. Taylor is only a what the heck flex against the Browns next week.

Colts | Jonathan Taylor to play more    Wed Oct 11, 02:20 PM

Indianapolis Colts RB Jonathan Taylor is expected to see a bigger workload in Week 6, head coach Shane Steichen said on Wednesday, Oct. 11.

Footballguys view: Taylor was back last week, but it was Zack Moss who went off. In his first game of 2023, Taylor rushed six times for 18 yards in the Colts' Week 5 win over the Titans, adding one reception for 16 additional yards. Taylor will get ramped up and be the lead back, but Moss has done enough (especially last week) to earn a larger role.

Colts | Jonathan Taylor held in check    Sun Oct 8, 06:47 PM

Indianapolis Colts RB Jonathan Taylor rushed for 18 yards on six carries against the Tennessee Titans in Week 5. He also caught one pass for 16 yards during the game.

Footballguys view: Taylor was ineffective as a runner, but he didn't get a chance to get in a rhythm as Zack Moss dominated the backfield touches. He should get more work next week, at least enough to be a flex, but Moss's performance today could force a committee and cap Taylor's rest of season upside. The good news is that the Colts have been very good running the ball with Moss since Week 2, which should lay the groundwork for Taylor's success in whatever degree it comes in fantasy leagues.

Colts | Jonathan Taylor to see limited work?    Sat Oct 7, 02:05 PM

Indianapolis Colts RB Jonathan Taylor will be on a pitch count in Week 5 and the team will ramp up his workload over the next month, per source on Saturday, Oct. 7.

Footballguys view: Taylor is back, but in his first game action of the 2023 season - especially with a new contract extension - the Colts could ease him back. From a fantasy perspective, we like Taylor as an RB2 or flex play with upside. You have been patiently waiting for his return, and it might be another week or two before Taylor begins paying off as expected.

Colts | Jonathan Taylor agrees to extension    Sat Oct 7, 12:27 PM

Indianapolis Colts RB Jonathan Taylor agreed to terms on a three-year, $42 million extension with $26.5 million guaranteed on Saturday, Oct. 7.

Footballguys view: With this extension, Taylor is now the NFL's third-highest-paid running back behind Christian McCaffrey and Alvin Kamara. Things change quickly around here, and now Taylor has to be happy and the Colts are happy to have him back. Now that he's ready to play in Week 5 coming off PUP, Taylor should be considered an RB2/flex play for Fantasy GMs who have been patiently awaiting his return.
