Jets | Zach Sudfeld does not make team    Sat Sep 3, 11:29 AM

New York Jets TE Zach Sudfeld was released Saturday, Sept. 3, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Sudfeld-mania used to be a thing -- but that was some time ago and when he was with the Patriots. However, he was having a good preseason and this move is a bit of a surprise.

Jets | Jace Amaro may not make team    Thu Sep 1, 04:56 PM

New York Jets TE Jace Amaro (groin) is on the final roster bubble, according to Brian Costello of the New York Post. Costello believes TE Kellen Davis is the only player at the position who has secured a roster spot. TEs Zach Sudfeld and Brandon Bostick are also in contention.

Footballguys view: We've said this for a while. There was brief hope this summer when he came into OTAs and had worked with Brandon Marshall to improve his catching. Since then, though, he has struggled to hold onto the ball. The front office which drafted him is gone, so this GM and coach have no reason to keep him around. We don't see the Jets as a team which produces fantasy tight ends worth rostering anyway, so no matter who is there on the roster, they shouldn't be on yours.

Jets | Zach Sudfeld re-signs    Thu Mar 10, 01:34 PM

The New York Jets re-signed TE Zach Sudfeld to a one-year deal Thursday, March 10. Financial terms weren't disclosed.

Footballguys view: Sudfeld won't be much of a threat to Jace Amaro even though Amaro has yet to be the least bit impressive. Sudfeld is coming off a torn ACL which cost him all of 2015 so we're not even sure if he makes the team.

Jets | Zach Sudfeld placed on IR    Wed Jun 17, 05:14 PM

New York Jets TE Zach Sudfeld (knee) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Wednesday, June 17, after being waived/injured Monday, June 15.

Footballguys view: Sudfeld's brief career in the NFL is likely over at this time. He wasn't a lock to make the final roster even if he was healthy, and a comeback may prove difficult.

Jets | Zach Sudfeld waived with settlement    Tue Jun 16, 12:21 AM

New York Jets TE Zach Sudfeld (knee) was waived/injured Monday, June 15, after suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament during organized team activities (OTAs). The team signed TE Steve Maneri to take his roster spot.

Footballguys view: Sudfeld's career in the NFL is likely over. Maneri is merely a blocking tight end with no fantasy value.

Jets | Make two roster moves    Mon Jun 15, 05:49 PM

New York Jets TE Zach Sudfeld (knee) was waived/injured Monday, June 15, with a torn anterior cruciate ligament. Free-agent TE Steve Maneri (Patriots) was subsequently signed to an undisclosed deal.

Footballguys view: Remember when Sudfeld was a sleeper to some? Yeah, those days are over. The third-year UDFA's career is likely over. Maneri is a blocking tight end who will struggle to make the final roster.

Jets | Zach Sudfeld injured    Thu Jun 11, 06:41 PM

New York Jets TE Zach Sudfeld (knee) injured his knee during minicamp Wednesday, June 10, on a collision with SS Calvin Pryor. Head coach Todd Bowles said he fears the injury may not be minor. Sudfeld underwent an MRI to determine the severity of the injury.

Footballguys view: Sudfeld has been a disappointment since he burst onto the scene ever-so-briefly with the Patriots. Buried behind Jace Amaro and Jeff Cumberland, he's not likely to get many reps. If he can get healthy again, he still won't amount to much on this Jets team and can be ignored in fantasy.

Jets | Zach Sudfeld dealing with injury    Thu Jun 11, 12:52 PM

New York Jets TE Zach Sudfeld (knee) did not participate in practice Thursday, June 11, because of a knee injury. Head coach Todd Bowles said Sudfeld may be dealing with a serious injury and that he will undergo tests on the knee.

Footballguys view: Sudfeld was a hot commodity as an undrafted rookie with the Patriots in 2013, but he failed to pay off for anyone who grabbed him. He's behind Jace Amaro and Jeff Cumberland and mired in an offense with players like Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker as well. Sudfeld isn't helping himself by being hurt and his role in the offense, limited already, could dwindle even further.

Jets | Three TEs to compete for one or two spots    Thu Jul 3, 05:44 PM

New York Jets TEs Zach Sudfeld, Chris Pantale and Colin Anderson will compete for one or two roster spots during training camp. It is not known if the team will keep three or four tight ends on their final roster.

Footballguys view: Sudfeld was a hot deal with the Patriots in training camp, but couldn't stick. He's got soft hands, decent speed and great size but isn't much of a blocker. Pantale was on the practice squad most of last season and didn't impress when he was moved up. Anderson is on a futures/reserve contract and is a pretty average small-school product. We think Sudfeld is the guy here, though he won't have any fantasy value unless there are injuries.

Jets | Jace Amaro struggling    Wed Jun 25, 12:16 PM

New York Jets rookie TE Jace Amaro is struggling in his initial workouts. The no-huddle, spread system at Texas Tech is significantly different from the Jets' deeper pro-style playbook. He looked lost in three-wide packages and needs to polish his routes, in-line position, footwork and releases.

Footballguys view: Amaro is making a transition, but the team should still find a specialized use for him on passing downs with less on his plate even if he has trouble adjusting to the pro game in his rookie year. He has great promise in dynasty leagues, but don't look for a big impact from Amaro in fantasy leagues this year.

Jets | High on Zach Sudfeld    Fri Mar 7, 09:08 PM

The New York Jets brain trust is high on TE Zach Sudfeld's potential and hope he will be able to continue his development next season.

Footballguys view: Sudfeld was a deep sleeper in fantasy circles last year, but he failed to make an impact with the Patriots and was released. The Jets picked him up, and we didn't see much from him there either. He's a smooth athlete with great size (6'7") and good hands. We'll see if Sudfeld can keep developing his raw skill set moving forward.

Jets | Three offensive players could get more time    Thu Dec 19, 09:53 PM

New York Jets RB Alex Green, WR Saalim Hakim and TE Zach Sudfeld could receive more playing time in the last two games of the season because the team wants to evaluate some of their players.

Footballguys view: Sudfeld never lived up to the hype of his "Baby Gronk" nickname in New England, but the long-term tight end job in New York is wide open. Hakim is a speedy wide receiver formerly with the Saints who could make a living as a deep threat if he starts to make plays in his limited opportunity.

Jets | Zach Sudfeld steps up    Mon Nov 4, 09:02 PM

New York Jets TE Zach Sudfeld saw an increase in playing time in Week 9 against the New Orleans Saints with TE Jeff Cumberland (concussion) inactive and TE Kellen Winslow (suspended) serving the last game of a suspension. Sudfeld had two receptions for 46 yards.

Footballguys view: Sudfeld was a hot topic around fantasy circles during training camp when he was with the Patriots. He had zero impact in New England and was dumped. The Jets scooped him up and could sure use more of him going forward. Re-draft owners have much better options. Deep dynasty league owners should keep an eye out here.

Jets | Claim Zach Sudfeld     Fri Oct 4, 04:37 PM

The New York Jets claimed TE Zach Sudfeld (Patriots) off waivers Friday, Oct. 4.

Patriots | Zach Sudfeld could go on practice squad    Thu Oct 3, 11:20 PM

The New England Patriots likely will sign free-agent TE Zach Sudfeld to their practice squad if he clears waivers.

Patriots | Aaron Dobson, Leon Washington making debuts    Thu Sep 12, 08:04 PM

New England Patriots WR Aaron Dobson and RB Leon Washington will make their team debuts in Week 2 against the New York Jets Thursday, Sept. 12. Dobson missed last week with a hamstring ailment. He and WR Josh Boyce should have bigger roles with WR Danny Amendola (groin) and TE Zach Sudfeld (hamstring) inactive. Washington is likely to be used in the pass-catching role that RB Shane Vereen (wrist) was used in.

Patriots | Zach Sudfeld fails to produce    Sun Sep 8, 09:18 PM

New England Patriots TE Zach Sudfeld was targeted just once in the Week 1 game against the Buffalo Bills, and he did not have any receptions. In fact, the preseason stud did not even start, as veteran TE Michael Hoomanawanui got the nod. Hoomanawanui managed just one grab for five yards (two targets).

Footballguys view: Sudfeld stumbled and then tipped a ball that ended up being an interception. He then barely saw the field and appears to be in the doghouse. He may have never really gotten out of it after his preseason week 3 fumble. He can be dropped in shallow leagues, and he should be dropped in any leagues where you might need to make a tough cut to get a roster spot for a hot week 2 pickup.

Patriots | Zach Sudfeld will have his chance    Wed Aug 21, 06:15 PM

New England Patriots TE Zach Sudfeld looks like a lock to enter Week 1 as the team's No. 1 tight end if TE Rob Gronkowski (back, forearm) starts the season on the Physically Unable to Perform list. Sudfeld is 6-foot-7, 260 pounds, which is almost the exact same size as Gronkowski. Sudfeld caught a touchdown pass the team's preseason game last weekend in the red zone on a pattern that Gronkowski has run before. Sudfeld displayed nice run-after-the-catch skills on another play later in the same preseason game. TE Jake Ballard is healthy and has been consistent in camp, too, and his role as a hybrid tight end in the past is similar to Gronkowski.

Footballguys view: Sudfeld plays a bit like Dennis Pitta (Ravens). He can get open on underneath routes and does a good job looking passes into his hands. Sudfeld isn't the greatest after the catch but can make contested catches with ease. We like him as a late-round TE2 with upside.

Patriots | Jake Ballard, Zach Sudfeld appear safe    Mon Aug 19, 04:00 PM

New England Patriots TEs Jake Ballard and Zach Sudfeld appear to have solid grips on roster spots at this point.

Footballguys view: Ballard is the backup behind Rob Gronkowski as the team's in line TE. Sudfeld is taking over in the move TE role vacated by Aaron Hernandez. We like Sudfeld as an upside TE2 late in fantasy drafts.

Patriots | Zach Sudfeld taking first-team reps    Wed Aug 14, 07:08 PM

New England Patriots TE Zach Sudfeld took the majority of first-team repetitions in practice Tuesday, Aug. 13, while TEs Daniel Fells and Jake Ballard were on the sidelines. Fells and Ballard are now battling for a roster spot.

Footballguys view: Sudfeld has TE1 upside in any week that Rob Gronkowski is out, and he is an excellent handcuff to Gronk if you take the former #1 fantasy tight end. This relationship looks like Dallas Clark and Jacob Tamme's from a few years back, where the backup will only be 75% or less of the starter, but that will still be enough to make him a very good fantasy tight end in his own right. If Sudfeld is as good as he has reportedly been in practices, he might even cement a spot in the two tight end set that the Pats made so lethal in recent years.

Patriots | Jake Ballard falling behind competition?    Fri Aug 9, 02:48 PM

New England Patriots TE Zach Sudfeld has looked good in practice, and TE Daniel Fells has reportedly had a solid training camp. TE Jake Ballard, on the other hand, has looked stiff at times, and has fallen behind in the team's competition.

Footballguys view: Ballard doesn't seem to be fully recovered from the knee injury that cost him all of 2012. He's being outplayed by Fells and undrafted rookie Zach Sudfeld. Ballard is squarely on the roster bubble and is in danger of getting cut.

Patriots | Zach Sudfeld working with first team    Thu Aug 8, 12:42 AM

New England Patriots TE Zach Sudfeld has been running exclusively with the first-team offense in practice, and he has reportedly been catching everything thrown his way.

Footballguys view: An important note for fantasy owners here. Sudfeld has been impressing in camp and could win the TE2 job behind Rob Gronkowski. When our very own Cecil Lammey watched Sudfeld at the Shrine Game earlier this year he noted that the Nevada prospect had a lot of Dennis Pitta (Ravens) to his game. Sudfeld has strong hands and knows how to use his body to shield defenders away from the ball. He's a consistent target but offers little after the catch.

New England Patriots TE Jake Ballard (knee) has slowed down over the last few days and was not moving around as before because he is still recovering from knee surgery. His absence has allowed TE Zach Sudfeld to perform well during practice.

Footballguys view: Our very own Cecil Lammey watched Sudfeld during the week of practice at the Shrine Game earlier this year and came away impressed. Some in the scouting community compared Sudfeld to a poor man's version of Dennis Pitta (Ravens) because of his strong hands. Sudfeld had durability concerns in college but if healthy could win the TE2 job behind Rob Gronkowski.

Patriots | Zach Sudfeld is a dark horse    Fri Jun 28, 10:29 PM

New England Patriots TE Zach Sudfeld, an undrafted free agent from Nevada, reportedly showed impressive pass-catching skills and dependable hands during offseason workouts. He might be ready ot compete for a spot on the 53-man roster given the upheaval at the tight end position in Foxboro during the offseason.

Footballguys view: Sudfeld was a long shot to make the active roster before the release of Hernandez. He could always end up on the practice squad but is an intriguing prospect to keep an eye on in deep leagues. Our very own Cecil Lammey watched Sudfeld during the week of practice for the Shrine Game earlier this year and liked what he saw. Sudfeld has some Dennis Pitta to his game because of his strong hands and concentration.
