Broncos | LaRod Stephens-Howling worked out    Thu Oct 9, 11:49 AM

Free-agent RB LaRod Stephens-Howling (Steelers) worked out for the Denver Broncos Tuesday, Oct. 7.

Footballguys view: With Montee Ball hurt, the Broncos are just looking to shore up their backfield. Stephens-Howling could be an OK change of pace back or help in the return game but even if he signs with Denver, his fantasy relevance is minimal.

Vikings | LaRod Stephens-Howling an option    Sat Mar 22, 12:43 PM

The Minnesota Vikings have expressed interest in free-agent RB LaRod Stephens-Howling (Steelers).

Footballguys view: The Vikings lost Toby Gerhart to the Jaguars in free agency, so they're looking for more depth behind Adrian Peterson. Stephens-Howling could help them as a change-of-pace back and receiver out of the backfield.

Steelers | May look to re-sign two RBs    Sat Feb 8, 12:22 PM

The Pittsburgh Steelers may look to re-sign impending free-agent RBs Jonathan Dwyer and LaRod Stephens-Howling this offseason.

Footballguys view: Stephens-Howling didn't get to prove much last year for the Steelers. He suffered a knee injury in the team's Week 1 game against the Titans, and he was lost for the season. Stephens-Howling could be ready for the start of training camp, and he would give the Steelers a fine change-of-pace option behind Le'Veon Bell.

Steelers | Three placed on IR    Mon Sep 9, 04:54 PM

Steelers | Jonathan Dwyer returning    Mon Sep 9, 08:15 AM

The Pittsburgh Steelers will re-sign RB Jonathan Dwyer.

Footballguys view: No surprise here. Isaac Redman fumbled near the end zone and did not impress against the Titans. LaRod Stephens-Howling suffered a knee injury and is out for the season. Felix Jones barely played and missed badly in pass protection. We could see Dwyer get a majority of the carries until rookie Le'Veon Bell is back from his foot injury.

Steelers | LaRod Stephens-Howling suffers devastating knee injury    Mon Sep 9, 01:31 AM

Pittsburgh Steelers RB LaRod Stephens-Howling (knee) tore the anterior cruciate ligament in one of his knees.

Footballguys view: More bad news for the Steelers here. Stephens-Howling will miss the season and the Steelers will have to add help at the RB position.

Steelers | RBs lay an egg    Sun Sep 8, 04:25 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers RBs Isaac Redman and LaRod Stephens-Howling combined for 14 carries for just 27 yards in Week 1. Redman had eight carries for 9 yards.

Footballguys view: Redman fumbled twice and didn't look great when he did hold onto the ball. With Maurkice Pouncey gone for the season, it's hard to like Le'Veon Bell when he returns to the lineup.

Steelers | Felix Jones, LaRod Stephens-Howling to see time    Wed Sep 4, 06:12 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers RBs Felix Jones and LaRod Stephens-Howling likely will receive playing time Week 1 even though RB Isaac Redman will start he game. Stephens-Howling is expected to be the third-down back while Jones likely will receive time when Redman needs a break.

Footballguys view: This is a RBBC while rookie Le'Veon Bell. None of the three backs in the committee have that much fantasy value. Redman would be at the top as the starter but he's a desperation flex play at best this week.

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Isaac Redman will start at running back for the team in Week 1, according to head coach Mike Tomlin. 'We know what Isaac is capable of.   Steelers | Isaac Redman expects to start    Mon Sep 2, 02:23 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Isaac Redman said he expects to start while RB Le'Veon Bell (foot) is out of the lineup. Redman said the coaches do not want to use a committee at running back, and he does not want to give them a reason to use a committee.

Footballguys view: Redman is coming back from a pinched nerve that caused him to miss plenty of time in the preseason. Felix Jones is thought to be the starter at this time. Either way the team will use a RBBC with Redman, Jones and LaRod Stephens-Howling while rookie Le'Veon Bell (foot) is out.

Steelers | Felix Jones expected to start    Mon Sep 2, 08:49 AM

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Felix Jones is expected to start Week 1. He likely vaulted ahead of RBs Isaac Redman and LaRod Stephens-Howling with 14 carries for 56 yards in the final preseason game.

Footballguys view: Interesting development here in Pittsburgh. Jones could get the nod over Isaac Redman who is still dealing with a pinched nerve. The team is going to use a RBBC with all three backs while rookie Le'Veon Bell is out. Bell is expected back in a few weeks from his foot injury.

Steelers | Three RBs expected to share time for now    Sun Sep 1, 12:32 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers RBs Isaac Redman, Felix Jones and LaRod Stephens-Howling are expected to share playing time until RB Le'Veon Bell (foot) is able to recover from his foot injury.

Footballguys view: The Steelers backfield wasn't that robust for fantasy football last year, and with this group of players, it is likely to yield very little value, perhaps even after Le'Veon Bell returns. We wouldn't recommend starting, or maybe even rostering any of the trio listed above, except maybe Redman if you are truly desperate.

Steelers | Jonathan Dwyer cut    Sat Aug 31, 03:54 PM

The Pittsburgh Steelers released RB Jonathan Dwyer.

Footballguys view: Dwyer has struggled with weight problems during his entire pro career. Some feel the Steelers were tired of his lack of motivation. We'll see Isaac Redman as the lead back while rookie Le'Veon Bell is out with a foot injury. Felix Jones and LaRod Stephens-Howling will compete for touches as the reserve players.

Steelers | LaRod Stephens-Howling to get long look    Fri Aug 9, 02:14 PM

The Pittsburgh Steelers want to see RB LaRod Stephens-Howling in third-down situations during the preseason opener Saturday, Aug. 10, against the New York Giants. The team envisions that role for Stephens-Howling in the regular season.

Footballguys view: Stephens-Howling is a big play back who could make for an interesting change of pace back for the Steelers. He runs with good balance and isn't afraid to grind out yards between the tackles.

Steelers | LaRod Stephens-Howling could see time on third down    Wed May 1, 02:48 PM

The Pittsburgh Steelers added RB LaRod Stephens-Howling to primarily be a kick returner, but he could also see playng time on third downs. He may have to compete with RB Baron Batch for a roster spot during training camp.

Footballguys view: Stephens-Howling will give the team a nice change of pace back behind Le'Veon Bell. He proved last year that he could carry a bigger workload if need be and can be effective as a return man as well.

The San Diego Chargers have had preliminary discussions with free-agent running backs, but free-agent RB LaRod Stephens-Howling (Cardinals) is not one of them.

Footballguys view: Some thought 'The Hyphen' could draw interest from the Chargers because his former coach, Ken Whisenhunt, is now the Offensive Coordinator in San Diego. The Chargers want RB help but may be looking for a RB with a better overall skill set.

The Arizona Cardinals are expected to try to re-sign impending free-agent RB LaRod Stephens-Howling and CB Greg Toler this offseason.

Cardinals | No offer to LaRod Stephens-Howling    Wed Dec 26, 07:39 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB LaRod Stephens-Howling has not received a contract offer from the team. He'll be an unrestricted free agent in March. Arizona wants to bring him back, but it looks as though he'll be able to at least test the market. The team still has RBs William Powell and Alfonso Smith.

Footballguys view: Stephens-Howling is a nice change of pace back who can produce if given a bigger role. Filling in as a starter earlier this year he had 104 yards rushing against the Vikings in week 7 and 127 yards rushing against the Falcons in week 11.

Arizona Cardinals RB LaRod Stephens-Howling (ribs) was limited during practice Friday, Nov. 23, and is listed as questionable for Week 12.

Footballguys view: "The Hyphen" has looked good over the last few weeks, but his fantasy value takes a hit this week with the return of Beanie Wells. We see Stephens-Howling as a flex play in week 12.

Cardinals | LaRod Stephens-Howling limited     Thu Nov 22, 05:34 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB LaRod Stephens-Howling (ribs) was limited during practice Thursday, Nov. 22.

Footballguys view: Stephens-Howling won't get the full workload this week. Instead, he'll split time with Beanie Wells. We still like "The Hyphen" as a 'what the heck' flex because of his ability to score from anywhere on the field.

Arizona Cardinals RB LaRod Stephens-Howling rushed for 127 yards and one touchdown on 22 carries in Week 11 against the Atlanta Falcons.

Footballguys view: Stephens-Howling had two big runs in the first half and gave maximum effort on his minimal gains spread over the other 20 carries. He has earned a change of pace role, but Beanie Wells is likely to start again as soon as he is ready.

Cardinals | LaRod Stephens-Howling headed back to bench?    Fri Nov 16, 09:20 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB LaRod Stephens-Howling will start in Week 11 against the Atlanta Falcons, but then he is expected to head back to the bench in Week 12 with RB Beanie Wells (toe) returning from the Injured Reserve/Designated to Return list.

Footballguys view: Stephens-Howling had his moments, including a 100-yard game vs. a tough Minnesota run defense. He'll go back to being a role player, but "Hyphen" could have value again this season if Wells can't stay healthy.

Cardinals | Went with hot hand at running back    Tue Oct 23, 06:41 PM

Arizona Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt said the team went with RB LaRod Stephens-Howling in Week 7 against the Minnesota Vikings because he had the hot hand over RB William Powell. 'I always think that he's going to be a part of it. We went in planning to have a rotation like we normally do, but LaRod had the hot hand. We had a good running plan, felt like it was going to be able to get some runs in there. ... He had a nice day and it was good for us that he was able to run the ball that way.'

Footballguys view: Stephens-Howling did a good job of running between the tackles in addition to being dangerous in the open field. The Cardinals stayed with him and it payed off as he went over 100-yards rushing on the day. He should be the lead back going forward, but Powell will still play a role for this team as well.

Cardinals | LaRod Stephens-Howling plays well Week 7    Sun Oct 21, 05:01 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB LaRod Stephens-Howling rushed for 104 yards and one touchdown on 20 carries against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 7.

Footballguys view: Stephens-Howling got a longer look right away after William Powell fumbled a kickoff, and ran through a Vikings defense that bottled up Alfred Morris last week. Stephens-Howling struggled against a Bills defense that gave up a massive day to Chris Johnson today. "Hyphen" will obviously be worth a pickup, but the Cardinals running game is unpredictable and not set up for success against the 49ers next week.

Cardinals | William Powell turns heads    Sun Oct 14, 09:13 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB William Powell carried 14 times for a team-high 70 yards in the Week 6 game against the Buffalo Bills. He stepped up with RBs Beanie Wells (toe) and Ryan Williams (shoulder), and fellow RB LaRod Stephens-Howling struggling with just 11 carries and 22 yards.

Footballguys view: Powell had a good burst and the ability to get outside on his runs, which is key behind an Arizona offensive line that doesn't get a good push in the trenches. He looks like he'll have at least flex value for the next month or two if he can stay healthy.

Arizona Cardinals RB LaRod Stephens-Howling is ready for a big role in Week 6 against the Buffalo Bills with RB Beanie Wells (toe) and RB Ryan Williams (shouder) out of action.

Footballguys view: It looks like Stephens-Howling is back to full speed just as opportunity knocks for him. He's at least worth rostering to see how the Cardinals use him. Stephens-Howling is a poor man's Darren Sproles, and could rack up receptions because the Cardinals are so poor at running the ball.

Cardinals | Do not see LaRod Stephens-Howling as every down back    Mon Oct 8, 05:23 PM

The Arizona Cardinals do not believe RB LaRod Stephens-Howling can be an every-down running back that can carry the ball the 15 times per game but will be giving him more carries because of the injuries to RBs Beanie Wells (toe) and RB Ryan Williams (shoulder). Stephens-Howling has missed the last two games with a hip flexor but there is a good chance that he will be able to play in Week 6.

Footballguys view: Hot Rod is an excellent change of pace back and we think he's comparable to a poor man's version of Saints RB Darren Sproles. William Powell may be the team's primary ball carrier with Stephens-Howling playing more of a third-down role.
