Lions | Matthew Stafford got aggressive in 2019    Mon May 25, 09:30 PM

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford's average throw depth was 10.6 yards in 2019 - tied for the highest mark by a quarterback with at least 250 pass attempts since at least 2015. It was also his best mark over that same span by 2.6 yards per throw.

Lions | Big season cut short for Matthew Stafford     Sat May 23, 09:28 PM

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford was on pace for 4,998 yards and 38 touchdowns when his 2019 season ended prematurely because of a back injury.

Footballguys view: Stafford is healthy now and looking for a bounce-back season. He's got talented weapons around him in the passing game and the backfield looks much better with the addition of rookie D'Andre Swift. Stafford has QB1 potential for Fantasy GMs in 2020. His current ADP is QB13 (10.02) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Lions | Defense matters little to Matthew Stafford    Sun May 17, 04:28 PM

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford was one of three quarterbacks to finish inside the top five in QBR against man coverage (78.5; fifth) and versus zone coverage (77.6; third), according to ESPN's Matt Bowen.

Footballguys view: Stafford needs to stay healthy this year for the Lions to get things on track with head coach Matt Patricia. He's a franchise quarterback who has not had much around him in terms of a complete team during his pro career. This season has to be a make-or-break year for Patricia, and it could go a long way in determining the future of Stafford in Detroit too.

Lions | Matthew Stafford a full go    Fri Apr 17, 10:42 AM

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford (back) would be a full participant if the offseason program were to begin next week, according to general manager Bob Quinn.

Footballguys view: Stafford should be able to participate in the 'virtual offseason' that teams are implementing around the league. If healthy, Stafford should be able to produce at a high level and put up QB1 numbers for Fantasy GMs.

Lions | Matthew Stafford good to go    Mon Mar 2, 01:33 PM

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford (back) is 'completely healed' from the fracture in his back that cost him the final eight games of the 2019 season, according to his wife via social media.

Footballguys view: Stafford is the team's starting quarterback in what could be his final season with the Lions. There have been plenty of rumblings about him wanting out, but the Lions couldn't really trade him away given his current contract situation. The two sides should work together again this year and Stafford is still quite capable of playing at a high level when healthy.

Lions | Matthew Stafford interested in being traded?    Sun Mar 1, 09:47 AM

Several coaches and general managers around the National Football League believe that Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford wants to be traded to another team, according to Michael Silver of the NFL Network.

Footballguys view: These rumors have been out there for some time and quite frankly don't make much sense. Stafford has a contract that would be cost prohibitive for the Lions to get rid of him. He has a cap hit of $21.3 million in 2020 and there is a whopping $32 million remaining in dead money.

Lions | Matthew Stafford trade rumors rebuffed    Thu Feb 27, 01:45 PM

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford (back) has been the subject of offseason trade rumors, but head coach Matt Patricia shot down those reports Thursday, Feb. 27, in a NFL Network interview. 'It's comical,' Patricia said. 'Not interested in doing anything with that. It's not even a conversation. He's one of the reasons I came to Detroit.'

Footballguys view: It seems safe to project Stafford as the Lions 2020 starting quarterback and the Lions #3 pick to be spent on a position other than quarterback, but his and Patricia's fate with the team beyond this year is to be determined.

Lions | Matthew Stafford to be ready for offseason work    Tue Feb 25, 04:03 PM

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford (back) has already resumed working out and will be ready to go for the start of the team's offseason program, according to general manager Bob Quinn Tuesday, Feb. 25.

Footballguys view: Stafford should be good to go in OTAs and minicamp. The team might want to limit him just to be cautious but there is no doubt that Stafford will be 100 percent ready to go by the start of training camp.

Lions | Matthew Stafford trade rumors false    Thu Feb 13, 10:11 AM

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford is the subject of trade rumors, but general manager Bob Quinn stated the rumors are '100 percent false.'

Footballguys view: The Lions know that Stafford can play at a high level...just like he has for years...he just needs to stay healthy. While they may not trade him, the Lions might be in the quarterback market to groom his eventual replacement.

Lions | Matthew Stafford update    Wed Jan 22, 12:30 AM

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford (back, hip) is 'pretty much at full health,' according to GM Bob Quinn, who adds that the team is 'totally happy and comfortable' with Stafford as their starting quarterback in 2020.

Footballguys view: Stafford is good to go as their franchise quarterback for 2020. He is signed through the 2022 season and the only concern about Stafford is his health status. There is a chance the Lions select a quarterback at some point in the 2020 NFL draft to develop behind Stafford.

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford (back, hip) ranked second in the NFL in passing yards per game (312.4), second in yards per pass attempt (8.6) and fifth in QBR (70.1) in the eight games he played in 2019.

Footballguys view: There is no doubt that Stafford is a fine quarterback, and he was playing good football before he was hurt. He's got plenty of time to get to full strength this offseason and should be playing at a high level upon his return.

Lions | Matthew Stafford on track for workouts    Mon Dec 30, 07:10 PM

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford (back) said his recovery is on schedule and expects to be ready for the start of offseason workouts.

Footballguys view: Stafford could also miss next week against Dallas and maybe another week.
