Falcons | Jason Snelling retiring Tue Mar 4, 06:18 PM
Atlanta Falcons RB Jason Snelling announced Tuesday, March 4, that he will retire from the NFL.

Footballguys view: White is the player everyone is waiting on here. There's no update on his health status, and he's a risky play even when he first comes back. Don't feel confident starting White (even as a desperation play) until we see him practice in back-to-back days as a full participant. |

Falcons | Steven Jackson practices Wed Oct 23, 02:15 PM
Atlanta Falcons RB Steven Jackson (hamstring) returned to practice Wednesday, Oct. 23, but he'll need to make it through practice this week without a setback in order to start in Week 8 against the Arizona Cardinals. RBs Jacquizz Rodgers and Jason Snelling have combined for 319 yards on 93 carries with Jackson out.
Footballguys view: Jackson had a setback last week and that's why he didn't return to the field in Week 7. If he does play the Falcons could ease him back into the lineup, splitting the workload with Jacquizz Rodgers. |

Falcons | Steven Jackson misses practice Thu Oct 3, 05:25 PM
Atlanta Falcons RB Steven Jackson (hamstring) did not practice Thursday, Oct. 3. Jackson observed practice in shorts and hasn't practiced since injuring his hamstring in Week 2. However, head coach Mike Smith is optimistic about Jackson, but he won't return to action until he's 100 percent healthy. 'We're not going to rule him out at this point in time,' Smith said. 'He's working hard to get back. And we'll have to see how the rest of the week plays out.'
Footballguys view: Jackson is unlikely to play in Week 5, but is getting a bit closer to returning. We'll see more from Jacquizz Rodgers and Jason Snelling this week. Rodgers is a decent flex play in Week 5, and Snelling is more of a "what the heck" flex. |

Falcons | Likely to split RB duties Tue Sep 17, 01:30 PM
The Atlanta Falcons are likely to split the running back duties between RBs Jacquizz Rodgers and Jason Snelling if RB Steven Jackson (thigh) doesn't play in Week 3 against the Miami Dolphins. Rodgers and Snelling ran for a combined 36 yards when Jackson left in Week 2.
Footballguys view: Rodgers failed to impress with an expanded role and may continue to disappoint this week. Snelling is the player to watch here because of his versatility. He can be used effectively as a runner, goal line back, and receiver out of the backfield. |

Falcons | Jason Snelling to see dual role Mon Sep 16, 03:46 PM
Atlanta Falcons RB Jason Snelling will see more time in a dual role of fullback and running back after the team lost FB Bradie Ewing (shoulder) for the rest of the season.
Footballguys view: Snelling may see more carries is Steven Jackson is banged up. Reserve RB Jacquizz Rodgers has not looked good when he's received more carries. Snelling can run, catch, and block effectively. He's worth a pick up in deep leagues. |

Updating an earlier report, Atlanta Falcons RB Steven Jackson (thigh) hasn't returned to the game.

Falcons | Jacquizz Rodgers unsure about role Sun Jun 23, 09:08 PM
Atlanta Falcons RB Jacquizz Rodgers is uncertain how the carries will be split following the offseason addition of RB Steven Jackson. Last season, free-agent RB Michael Turner (Falcons) handled 66.4 percent of the carries by the team's RBs (222 of 334 carries). Rodgers had 28.4 percent (94 carries), with RB Jason Snelling handling 5.2 percent (18 carries).
Footballguys view: Fantasy owners are unsure of his role as well. Jackson is the lead back and can be used effectively as a receiver out of the backfield. His current ADP is RB12 and he's coming off the board at 2.02 in 12 team PPR leagues. Rodgers has a current ADP of RB49 and is considered a mid tenth-round pick. |

Falcons | RB snap breakdown Mon Dec 10, 10:47 AM
Atlanta Falcons RB Jacquizz Rodgers was on the field for 30 offensive snaps, which was 46 percent of the offensive snaps. RB Michael Turner took 20 snaps, and RB Jason Snelling had 15 snaps.
Footballguys view: We've been talking about this change for some time now. Rodgers fits the Dirk Koetter system better than Turner does. The Falcons will still use Turner near the goalline but fantasy owners need to recognize he's more of a flex play now with this reduction in touches. |

Falcons | Taking committee approach at RB Wed Nov 28, 07:35 PM
The Atlanta Falcons prefer a committee approach at running back these days between RBs Michael Turner and Jacquizz Rodgers. 'We feel like Jacquizz is a very viable option to carry the football and has done a nice job for us,' head coach Mike Smith said. 'It has become more of the vogue thing to do, to have a 'running back by committee.'' RB Jason Snelling also had three catches for 33 yards in the team's Week 12 victory. Turner is receiving fewer chances to run the ball as the team spreads out the touches. He has had only 62.7 percent of the team's carries this year, by far his lowest total in each of his previous three years. Turner is only averaging 3.5 yards per carry, too, which is on pace for the worst mark of his career.
Footballguys view: Fantasy owners need to take note here. Rodgers is a better fit for the Dirk Koetter offense and is a better receiving option than Turner. The two will continue to split time for the rest of the year. |

The Atlanta Falcons released their initial regular season depth chart Tuesday, Sept. 4, and RBs Jason Snelling and Jacquizz Rodgers are listed second and third behind starting RB Michael Turner. RB Antone Smith is listed fourth on the depth chart.

Falcons | Trying to work several tailbacks in Mon Jul 2, 10:17 PM
Atlanta Falcons running backs coach Gerald Brown indicated Monday, July 2, that the team is trying to work RBs Jason Snelling, Jacquizz Rodgers, Antone Smith, Dimitri Nance and Robbie Frey into the mix during training camp and the preseason. The team feels particularly good about Snelling and Rodgers, who are expected to spell RB Michael Turner more this season.
Footballguys view: Rodgers is an elusive change of pace back who could fill a Darren Sproles-like role for the Falcons this year. Snelling is the bruising 'tweener who can play Running Back or Fullback. We like Rodgers as a sneaky pick you can add in the 11th or 12th round of your fantasy draft. |

Falcons | RB committee this season? Thu Jun 21, 01:45 AM
Atlanta Falcons head coach Mike Smith has said running the ball will remain a priority in offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter's system, but it will be on a more by-committee basis. That means RBs Michael Turner, Jacquizz Rodgers and Jason Snelling are all likely to figure in for carries.
Footballguys view: Koetter likes to spread things out on the field, and the RB corps will not be immune to the changes. Those proclaiming Rodgers as a super fantasy sleeper have to pump the brakes a bit. We're hearing the team will still favor Turner, and the touches could be split around 70/30. |

Falcons | Turner still the lead RB Tue Jun 19, 07:46 PM
D. Orlando Ledbetter, from the Atlanta Journal Constitution, in an interview on 102.3 ESPN Denver with Cecil Lammey and Sigmund Bloom said Michael Turner is still going to be the lead RB for the Falcons. Ledbetter believes the team could split the touches 70/30 in favor of Turner.
Footballguys view: Rodgers has been getting a lot of buzz this offseason as a fantasy sleeper but this news could slow that hype train down some. Jason Snelling is also in the mix here, and he's the main competition for Rodgers in training camp. Turner won't be a top 10 fantasy RB this year, but perhaps his production won't fall off the cliff like some people think. |
