Jets | Jeff Cumberland the starter    Tue Jun 11, 11:02 AM

New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan said TE Jeff Cumberland is the starting tight end, followed by TEs Konrad Reuland and Hayden Smith.

Footballguys view: Cumberland is taking the place of Dustin Keller (Dolphins) who moved on in free agency. He should be able to hold onto the starting job in training camp but is not an exciting fantasy option.

Jets | Cumberland looks to be starting TE    Sun Jun 9, 07:51 PM

New York Jets TE Jeff Cumberland looks to be the leader for the starting TE position. The team lost Dustin Keller (Dolphins) in free agency and are looking to fill his spot in 2013. Cumberland has worked his way up the depth chart since being an undrafted free agent in 2010.

Footballguys view: Cumberland could begin the season as the starter but isn't an exciting fantasy option. However, deep dynasty league owners should keep an eye on Hayden Smith. The former rugby and college basketball player has an interesting skill set and high developmental upside.

Jets | Seven waived    Fri Aug 31, 09:42 PM

The New York Jets waived OT Paul Cornick, DB Donnie Fletcher, RB Terrance Ganaway, WR Royce Pollard, LB Ricky Sapp, TE Hayden Smith and WR Jordan White Friday, Aug. 31.

Footballguys view: Ganaway seemed like a nice fit in New York because Tim Tebow can run an offense very similar to the one Ganaway played in at Baylor with Robert Griffin III. Jordan White was in the mix for a slot receiver job after coming back from a foot injury, but knee swelling sidelined him again and eliminated his chance to make the team.

Jets | Hayden Smith works out     Wed Feb 1, 09:16 AM

The New York Jets tried out Australian rugby player Hayden Smith, according to a league source with knowledge of the situation. Smith wasn't immediately signed to a contract.

Footballguys view: Several teams are interested in Smith because he's a tough, athletic freak, who measures in a 6'7" 240 lbs. He never worked out and ran a 4.8 40-yard dash in his first run. Teams are looking at him as a TE prospect. The former basketball player has a huge frame and a fiery competitive spirit.
