The Miami Dolphins will work out RB Clifton Smith (Buccaneers) Wednesday, Sept. 8, as they search for a kick returner, reports the Palm Beach Post's Ben Volin, per a source. Miami is not content with either RB Patrick Cobbs or CB Nolan Carroll as their primary kick returner. Smith led the NFL last year with a 29.1 average kick return among players with 20-plus returns, but he was placed on Injured Reserve in December after suffering his second concussion of the season.

Pat Kirwan, of NFL.com, reports that there is a battle for the role of third-down back going on Buccaneers camp. RB Cadillac Williams thinks that Clifton Smith is in the lead because of his pass-catching ability, but Kirwan insists that none of the backs are "surrendering the fight".
