Dallas Cowboys DT Jason Hatcher (neck) said he doesn't expect to miss any playing time from the neck strain he suffered in the fourth quarter Sunday, Nov. 3, against the Minnesota Vikings. Hatcher left the action just three plays into the final quarter. "I got a stinger. I was going to make a play and Ernie Sims kind of knocked the crap out of me, but I'll be OK," Hatcher said. "The strength is coming back - it's just one of those things, you've got to cautious with it. So I'll probably have to put a big neck roll on it next week to kind of protect it. But I'll be OK."

Dallas Cowboys LB Bruce Carter is back in the starting lineup entering Week 6 after being benched last week. Carter will start in the regular defense and in nickel packages against the Washington Redskins. LB Ernie Sims was promoted in an effort to teach Carter a lesson for his poor play. Sims will likely start at strongside linebacker in place of LB Justin Durant (groin). The transition to a 4-3 defense under coordinator Monte Kiffin has been a slow process for Carter.

Dallas Cowboys LB Bruce Carter had big problems covering his opponents in the team's Week 4 loss to the San Diego Chargers, in which the team allowed QB Philip Rivers to throw for over 400 yards. LB Ernie Sims saw more time at the expense of Carter. 'We wanted to give Ernie Sims some chances to come play, particularly in that nickel package, so a combination of those two things. Bruce was also dealing with a little bit of a foot injury in the second part of that game,' head coach Jason Garrett said. 'So we mixed those two guys in, gave Ernie some chances, and we've just got to get better there. Bruce has been a good cover linebacker for us, and he'll be a good cover linebacker for us again.' Sims may remain in nickel packages over Carter starting in Week 5 against the Denver Broncos.

Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett said LB Bruce Carter (foot) was dealing with a foot problem in the second half of the Week 4 game against the San Diego Chargers, but the coach also criticized Carter after RB Danny Woodhead burned Carter for two scores. 'Bruce had some problems covering their guys,' Garrett said Monday, Sept. 30. 'He didn't cover them well, and there (are) some other things going on in our other coverage that he didn't do quite enough of a good job on.' Carter was apparently benched in the second half, playing just 48 snaps in Week 4, with LB Ernie Sims playing 27 snaps.
