Free-agent RBs Charles Sims, Terrance West and Fitzgerald Toussaint worked out for the Detroit Lions on Tuesday, Oct. 2.

Buccaneers | Charles Sims expected to be fine Sun Aug 19, 07:37 PM
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Charles Sims (knee) did not suffer a serious injury in the preseason game Saturday, Aug. 18, and he is expected to be fine for the start of the regular season.
Footballguys view: Sims avoids a bad outcome here, but he still has to outplay UDFA scatback Shaun Wilson to be assured of making the team. |

Buccaneers | Charles Sims injures knee Sat Aug 18, 09:15 PM
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Charles Sims (knee) exited the preseason game against the Tennessee Titans Saturday, Aug. 18, with a knee injury and will not return.
Footballguys view: UDFA Shaun Wilson was already pushing Sims for a roster spot and job, this could cinch that trend. Deep dynasty league players should remember Wilson's name. |

Buccaneers | Charles Sims not a lock to stick on roster Sun Aug 12, 01:51 PM
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Charles Sims is not guaranteed to make the final roster, especially if undrafted rookie free agent Shaun Wilson continues to impress, according to The Tampa Bay Times' Greg Auman, who believes Wilson could make the team at the expense of Sims or Jacquizz Rodgers.
Footballguys view: Wilson is more dynamic in space and has been turning heads since he joined the team. Sims stayed on the free agent market for a while and probably isn't a very coveted player at this point. Getting beaten out by a UDFA is clearly possible. |

Buccaneers | Charles Sims will have specific role Thu May 17, 05:49 PM
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Charles Sims is expected to be a third-down back this upcoming season because of his ability to pass protect and catch the ball out of the backfield, according to offensive coordinator Todd Monken.
Footballguys view: Sims had his shot to be the team's lead back in 2015 and those days are gone. Now, rookie Ronald Jones could emerge as the top running back for the Bucs. Jones is electric with the ball in his hands and can be dangerous as a runner or receiver out of the backfield. Sims is not as explosive with the ball but he is reliable and there's a spot for that....a spot with limited (little?) fantasy value but there is a spot. |

Free-agent RB Charles Sims (Buccaneers) agreed to a one-year deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Thursday, April 26. Financial terms weren't disclosed.

Buccaneers | Tampa Bay to use RBBC without Doug Martin Fri Sep 8, 01:43 PM
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Jacquizz Rodgers will most likely be the first- and second- down back, while Charles Sims will handle most of the third-down work and Peyton Barber will be the goal-line back while Doug Martin serves his season-opening three-game suspension, according to ESPN's Jenna Laine.
Footballguys view: If Barber is the goal line back, that takes some luster off of Rodgers as a first three weeks RB2/Flex play, although next weeks matchup against the Bears should at least be flexworthy. Week 4 against the Giants is a much tougher draw for Rodgers and the Bucs running game. |

Buccaneers | Charles Sims to be more involved? Thu Jun 1, 11:43 PM
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Charles Sims showed good burst in practice Thursday, June 1, according to beat writer Jenna Laine, and Laine believes Sims could be used from the slot this season and will be more involved in the passing game.
Footballguys view: Sims is a good receiver out of the backfield, and he's certainly got the ability to line up in the slot in certain packages. He'll compete for touches as a runner and could be more involved while Doug Martin is suspended over the first three games of the 2017 season. |

Buccaneers | Charles Sims taking part in OTAs Tue May 23, 03:07 PM
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Charles Sims (shoulder) practiced during organized team activities Tuesday, May 23, after being cleared to practice Monday, May 22. Sims underwent shoulder surgery sometime this offseason.
Footballguys view: It's a good sign for Sims who was knocked out late last year with this injury. The team has a collection of RBs, and with Doug Martin suspended the first three games of the year we could see Sims worked into the mix. He'll compete for touches with Jacquizz Rodgers and rookie Jeremy McNichols. |

Buccaneers | Charles Sims returning to team Sat Dec 10, 12:58 PM
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Charles Sims (knee) was activated from the Reserve/Injured list Saturday, Dec. 10.
Footballguys view: This is a move that has been expected for some time. With Doug Martin struggling to produce, the Bucs have talked about using Jacquizz Rodgers more. Don't forget about Sims...especially if you play in a PPR league. The Bucs don't have a ton of weapons on offense, and Sims can contribute as a runner or receiver out of the backfield. |

Buccaneers | Charles Sims expected back this week Mon Dec 5, 06:27 PM
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Charles Sims (knee) is expected to be activated from the Reserve/Injured list before the team's Week 14 game against the New Orleans Saints, according to head coach Dirk Koetter.
Footballguys view: Sims is an important handcuff for Doug Martin owners to add off the waiver wire if he's out there. He'll get worked in behind Martin as a change-of-pace back. The return of Sims will take away some snaps from Jacquizz Rodgers. |

Buccaneers | Charles Sims designated to return Wed Nov 23, 12:44 PM
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Charles Sims (knee) has been designated to return from the Reserve/Injured list Wednesday, Nov. 23.
Footballguys view: That doesn't mean he's going to play right away, as Sims is not eligible to return until Week 14. In the fantasy playoffs (against the Saints twice), we could see Sims mixing in as a 'what the heck' flex for fantasy owners. |

Buccaneers | Charles Sims doesn't practice Thu Oct 6, 11:37 PM
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Charles Sims (knee) did not participate in practice Thursday, Oct. 6.
Footballguys view: Sims struggled last week when the Buccaneers gave him the ball early and often during the opening moments against Denver. He also fumbled and struggled as a receiver. It won't get easier this week against Carolina and despite getting most of the carries, Sims isn't more than an RB3 in fantasy. |

Updating an earlier report, Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Charles Sims (knee) took a hit on his right knee in Week 4, but he finished the game. He is out of practice Tuesday, Oct. 4.
Footballguys view: Sims wasn't successful against the Broncos defense on Sunday. That's not a shock given his opponent, but it has led the Bucs to consider using more of Jacquizz Rodgers while Doug Martin is out. Fantasy owners should downgrade Sims because of this injury ... and also because we could see his role shrink if Rodgers gets more time. |

Buccaneers | Charles Sims' role could diminish Tue Oct 4, 09:49 AM
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Charles Sims' role could diminish in Week 5 after he has struggled in a starting role the following two weeks. Head coach Dirk Koetter said the team is considering making changes in personnel to fit into the roles of their strengths.
Footballguys view: Consider Sims more of a RB3/flex play until we see this shake out. The Bucs shouldn't hold it against him that he couldn't get it going against the best defense in the league (Denver) in Week 4. |

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Jacquizz Rodgers said he only expects to play when RB Charles Sims needs a breather.

Buccaneers | Charles Sims to miss preseason game Thu Aug 11, 03:58 PM
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Charles Sims (ankle) will not play in the preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles Thursday, Aug. 11. Sims is being held out as a precaution.
Footballguys view: Sims was the third down back/general pass-catcher in the Bucs backfield, and we have faith he will be again. Also, keep in mind that Doug Martin has missed a lot of time in half of his four seasons, so Sims is a good handcuff choice for him. Otherwise, as both backs split carries, consider Sims an RB4 with upside in standard leagues, or an RB3 in PPR. |

Buccaneers | Charles Sims can be three-down back Wed Feb 24, 11:07 AM
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Charles Sims can be a three-down back if needed, according to head coach Dirk Koetter.
Footballguys view: Doug Martin is unlikely to get tagged, although GM Jason Licht expressed optimism that he will remain a Buc. A stocked free agent and draft class at running back present more cost effective options than Martin if he seeks big money and the team opts to let him test the waters. Koetter might be inflating Sims a bit to increase Tampa's leverage in this situation, but the comment should still represent a boost to Sims' dynasty and redraft stock. |

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Charles Sims ran 12 times for 51 yards in the Week 5 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars and he added four receptions for a team-high 85 yards.
Footballguys view: Sims seems to have more speed than he ever showed at West Virginia. He's worth rostering in typical leagues and could be a low RB1 in PPR leagues if Doug Martin were to miss time. |

Buccaneers | Charles Sims adds muscle Fri Jun 5, 03:19 PM
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Charles Sims has added some muscle during the offseason, which could help him be a better runner between the tackles.

Buccaneers | Charles Sims could start for TB? Tue May 26, 05:31 PM
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Charles Sims has a solid chance of beating out RB Doug Martin for Tampa Bay's starting running back gig, according to Pat Yasinskas of ESPN.com.
Footballguys view: The more reports we see out of Tampa, the more it seems like Sims could be their top guy. Coming out of college, Sims reminded some in the scouting community of a poor man's version of Matt Forte (Bears) because of his ability as a runner and receiver out of the backfield. If he wins the starting job, Sims could put up good RB2 numbers for fantasy owners. He could easily outperform his current ADP of RB39 (8.08) in 12-team PPR leagues. |

Buccaneers | Charles Sims excited for new season Tue May 26, 05:25 PM
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Charles Sims is anxious to capitalize on his short-lived 2014 campaign when he suffered a torn ankle tendon that caused him to miss the first eight games of the season. 'I was just getting in the groove and then the season was over,' Sims said. 'I'm looking forward to next year and it will be interesting to see what's going to happen.'
Footballguys view: Fantasy owners should be excited about Sims and his RB2 upside. He didn't get going until Week 10 as a rookie and finished the season with 66 carries for 185 yards and one touchdown. Sims also chipped in with 19 catches for 190 yards. His all-purpose ability could thrust him into the starting lineup over Doug Martin. Watch this battle unfold in training camp and the preseason. |

Buccaneers | Charles Sims will be featured Sat May 23, 06:17 PM
Tampa Buccaneers RB Charles Sims is viewed very highly by coaches, according to Pat Yasinskas of ESPN.com Friday, May 22.
Footballguys view: Things change pretty quickly around here. It wasn't that long ago that Doug Martin was coming off an incredible rookie season, and he was seen as an emerging star for the Buccaneers. Now, Martin is an afterthought and Sims seems to be the hotter running back. We like Sims all-around ability as a determined runner between the tackles and receiver out of the backfield. Sims has a current ADP of RB40 (9.01), and he could certainly outperform that position in 2015. |

Buccaneers | Charles Sims likely to be featured Mon May 4, 10:47 AM
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Charles Sims is likely to be featured in the offense this season.
Footballguys view: The team is moving on from Doug Martin. They did not pick up Martin's fifth-year option, so he will be a free agent in 2016. The Bucs want to see what Sims can be as a featured back, and fantasy owners need to take notice. Coming out of college (West Virginia, Houston), Sims was a player often compared to Matt Forte (Bears) because of his ability as a runner and receiver out of the backfield. |
