49ers | Chip Kelly likes Jerome Simpson Fri Aug 5, 12:42 AM
San Francisco 49ers WR Jerome Simpson is 'flourishing' in head coach Chip Kelly's system and is a 'guy to keep an eye on' going forward, Kelly said Wednesday, Aug. 3.
Footballguys view: The 49ers #2 wide receiver job is still open, although Bruce Ellington is in the lead. Quinton Patton could be fading and CFL import Eric Rogers has been impressing, so this depth chart is far from settled. |

49ers | WR corps inexperienced in San Fran Thu Jul 21, 02:25 AM
San Francisco 49ers Torrey Smith is one of just three receivers with more than 40 career receptions heading into the 2016 season. WRs Jerome Simpson (150) and Quinton Patton (56) are the others. Simpson and Patton will be in the mix to serve as the No. 2 receiver opposite Smith.
Footballguys view: Things look foggy for the offense in San Francisco. Unless something shakes it up, there are certainly cracks in the passing offense, experience (or lack thereof) being one of them. Add in that Blaine Gabbert or Colin Kaepernick are San Andreas size flawed prospects at quarterback and this is a passing offense which seems like a disaster in the making. Smith is the only receiver we even kind of like and he's a WR4/WR5. |

49ers | SF wideout jobs are wide open Tue Jun 21, 01:15 AM
San Francisco 49ers WRs Bruce Ellington, Quinton Patton and Jerome Simpson are in the mix for the starting job opposite WR Torrey Smith. WR Dres Anderson isn't expected to be consistent enough to shoulder the load, but he is also in the battle. WR DeAndrew White has plenty of size, but he is considered closer to the roster bubble than he is to being a regular contributor.
Footballguys view: This is a spot not many fantasy owners should be looking at. Only those in the deepest of deep leagues should be thinking about a second WR from the 49ers in 2016. Even Smith is a deeper option, sitting at WR54 (11.12) in 12-team PPR leagues. |

Free-agent WR Jerome Simpson (Vikings) signed a two-year contract with the San Francisco 49ers Thursday, March 5.

The Minnesota Vikings have released WR Jerome Simpson Thursday, Sept. 18.
Footballguys view: Simpson was set to come back from his three-game suspension after this week. All Simpson does is get in trouble, and he may find it difficult to find a new home given the state of troublemakers in the league. |

Vikings | Two in contention for slot WR job Fri Jul 18, 11:22 PM
Minnesota Vikings WRs Jarius Wright and Jerome Simpson are expected to compete for the slot receiver job during training camp.
Footballguys view: We'd like to see more of Wright. He had a couple of good games last year, including a four catch, 95 yard performance against the Eagles in Week 15. Wright is quicker and more explosive than Simpson, and he's a much more dangerous receiver after the catch. |

Vikings | Jerome Simpson likely not in line to start Wed Jun 11, 10:15 PM
Minnesota Vikings WR Jerome Simpson, who took a pay cut to remain with the team after some off-field issues, is likely not in line to start with leading returning WR Greg Jennings and WR Cordarrelle Patterson in the mix. Still, Simpson is happy to be back, and he had a good relationship with head coach Mike Zimmer when the two were both in the Cincinnati Bengals organization together.
Footballguys view: Given the talent in front of him, as well as a potentially increased role for tight end Kyle Rudolph, Simpson may not get many looks, and certainly not many consistent ones. Right now, he's not worth rostering. |

Simpson was arrested Nov. 9 for drunken driving. 'There's no sense in me talking about that now. The decision was made. Simpson was out there on the second play. Vikings | Cordarrelle Patterson could see more time Sat Nov 16, 02:52 AM
Minnesota Vikings coach Leslie Frazier has not yet spelled out the plan publicly, but he has hinted this week that WR Cordarrelle Patterson could start Sunday, Nov. 17, at the Seattle Seahawks ahead of WR Jerome Simpson, who was charged with drunken driving. 'They drafted me to play, not ride the bench every snap,' Patterson said. 'If I start, I start. If I don't, I don't. I'm behind a great guy in Jerome Simpson. Me and him compete with each other just to get better.'
Footballguys view: Yes! We've been waiting patiently for this and hopefully it will pay off. Patterson is fantastic in the open field with the ball in his hands. He's not a developed route runner, but the team should be able to find ways to use him like they used to use Percy Harvin. We'll see if they are bold enough to use the rookie the right way. |

'We'll have further clarification as we learn more from the league as well as what we're going to do internally,' Frazier said Tuesday, Nov. 12. Vikings | Uncertain about Jerome Simpson's Week 11 status Mon Nov 11, 01:09 PM
The Minnesota Vikings are not sure if WR Jerome Simpson will play Week 11 after he was arrested this past weekend for driving while intoxicated.

Vikings | Cordarelle Patterson to see extra packages? Fri Nov 1, 09:07 PM
Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave indicated Friday, Nov. 1, that the team has packages in place for when WRs Cordarrelle Patterson and Jerome Simpson are on the field at the same time, and the club might want to expand that package. 'We didn't get a lot of plays the other night. We need to stay on the field so we can call more than a couple dozen, excluding the two-minute the other night,' Musgrave said. 'We want to get into our game plan because we do have some packages that we're excited about...getting both those guys out on the field and letting them do their thing.
Footballguys view: Musgrave needs to use Patterson more. He's the type of wideout who is not a crisp route runner, but has elite run after the catch ability. There are ways to design simple plays to get him open underneath. A drag route or rub route over the middle would be a start. Patterson has the speed and elusiveness to score from anywhere on the field. |

Vikings | Jerome Simpson with big day Sun Sep 8, 04:33 PM
Minnesota Vikings WR Jerome Simpson had seven catches for 140 yards in Week 1.
Footballguys view: Simpson had the biggest play of the day for the Vikings pass offense, and definitely staked his claim to hold off first-round pick Cordarrelle Patterson for at least the early part of the season. He's worth a pickup in deep leagues, especially non-PPR with his deep ball game. Simpson will try his hand against the Bears next week. |

Vikings | New bed helping Jerome Simpson's back Wed May 29, 12:43 PM
Minnesota Vikings WR Jerome Simpson says his new Tempurpedic mattress has helped stabilize his back and keep him in good posture. 'I didn't really have my burst to be able to get away from my defenders when I needed to.' Simpson says he's back at 100 percent.
Footballguys view: Simpson was thought to be a steal in free agency last year but failed to impress during his first season with the Vikings. We'll see if he can have a better year in 2013. |

Vikings | Jerome Simpson coming back Wed Mar 13, 03:38 PM

Vikings | Jerome Simpson could return Wed Feb 20, 04:53 PM
The Minnesota Vikings could consider re-signing impending free-agent WR Jerome Simpson if they are able to sign him to an inexpensive contract.

Vikings | Future for Jerome Simpson uncertain Sun Jan 27, 09:10 PM
Impending free-agent WR Jerome Simpson (Vikings) had an injury-filled season, and he did little statistically when healthy. Simpson was also credited with four dropped balls. In addition, he missed a block which led to the season-ending injury to WR Percy Harvin (ankle). Simpson might return on another short-term deal at the right price, as he is not expected to have much value on the open market. However, the Vikings might just decide to move on after the disappointment of 2012.
Footballguys view: Simpson had a sensational offseason, but injuries and inconsistent play kept him from turning that into production during the regular season. The Vikings will probably move on from him this year. |

Vikings | Jerome Simpson hindered by injury Fri Dec 14, 04:06 PM
Minnesota Vikings WR Jerome Simpson (back) is still being bothered by a disc injury in his back, according to head coach Leslie Frazier. Simpson has been a big disappointment with only 15 catches for 176 yards and no touchdowns in nine games this year. He hasn't had more than three catches in any game. 'You can't get around the injury,' Frazier said. 'It definitely has had an effect on his play. We're doing the best we can, he's doing the best he can and that play he made on the slant in (last Sunday's) game in the fourth quarter, that was a big play for us. We're going to need him to make some plays for us this Sunday. Give us whatever he can.' Simpson's speed has been affected, as well as his ability to cut and plant during his routes. He has yet to be told that he'll need offseason surgery, though.
Footballguys view: Simpson created a lot of buzz in the offseason, but never panned out this year as the downfield complement to Percy Harvin. He might be worth a stash in the offseason again this year in dynasty leagues to see if the injury really was the main culprit in his lost year. |

Vikings | Becoming one-dimensional Fri Nov 9, 06:22 PM
The Minnesota Vikings have become a very one-dimensional team lately, and opponents are choking off WR Percy Harvin and TE Kyle Rudolph. QB Christian Ponder is waiting for routes to open up down the field and it's not happening. Once the Vikings fall behind, they are forced to abandon their running game and their best weapon, RB Adrian Peterson. 'Outside of Percy, I don't consider any of those guys really threats. Obviously, I really like Rudolph, but he's not a stretch-you-down-the-field type of guy. I'm not a huge Jerome Simpson fan.
