Patriots | Work out a few    Tue Oct 15, 11:06 PM

The New England Patriots worked out free-agent WRs Jordan Shipley (Jaguars), WR LaQuan Williams (Ravens) and WR Devon Wylie (Cardinals) Tuesday, Oct. 15.

Footballguys view: The Patriots are likely just updating their emergency list here. When Wylie came out of Fresno State in 2012 there were some in the scouting community who compared him to Danny Amendola because of his quickness and ability to make tough catches underneath.

Jaguars | Ace Sanders could push for No. 3 WR job    Mon May 27, 02:23 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Ace Sanders could compete with WR Jordan Shipley for the No. 3 wide receiver job during offseason workouts and training camp.

Footballguys view: Shipley has good hands but durability issues have held him back during his entire pro career. Sanders is extremely quick, agile, and fast in the open field. He can pick up yards after the catch and may end up winning a bigger role on offense than some people think.

Jaguars | Justin Blackmon suspended    Tue Apr 30, 03:56 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Justin Blackmon has been suspended four games by the NFL.

Footballguys view: Some teams just can't catch a break. Jacksonville was already struggling and losing a player like Blackmon is the last thing they need. As the ESPN article stated, "besides Blackmon, the Jaguars' receiving corps is led by Cecil Shorts III, who led the team in receiving yards (979) and touchdowns (7), and includes veterans Jordan Shipley and Mohamed Massaquoi. The team also drafted former South Carolina receiver Ace Sanders in the fourth round of last week's draft." This certainly doesn't help QBs Blaine Gabbert and Chad Henne either.

Jaguars | Jordan Shipley re-signed    Tue Mar 19, 07:13 PM

The Jacksonville Jaguars have re-signed free-agent WR Jordan Shipley. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Shipley gives the team veteran depth at the WR position. He's not in line to see a lot of targets and will help mostly on special teams as a return man if he makes the team.

Jaguars | Justin Blackmon leads team in receiving in Week 14    Sun Dec 9, 10:41 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Justin Blackmon had six receptions for a team-high 57 yards in the Week 14 game against the New York Jets. WR Jordan Shipley managed 55 yards on five grabs, and WR Kevin Elliott finished with 38 yards on three receptions.

Footballguys view: Blackmon couldn't get free downfield without Cecil Shorts drawing coverage. If Shorts can't go against Miami next year, Blackmon will be a dicey play.

Jaguars | Jordan Shipley signs    Tue Nov 20, 04:47 PM

The Jacksonville Jaguars signed free-agent WR Jordan Shipley (Buccaneers) and waived FB Will Ta'ufo'ou in a corresponding move.

Footballguys view: Shipley gives the team veteran depth at the WR position, but we're not expecting him to be much of a fantasy factor. He'll contribute more as a punt returner.

Buccaneers | Roster moves    Tue Sep 25, 06:34 PM

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed free-agent WR Roscoe Parrish (Raiders) Tuesday, Sept. 25, and waived WR Jordan Shipley in a corresponding move.

Footballguys view: Parrish will take over as a return man and depth WR for the Buccaneers. Shipley fumbled on a return in the game against the Cowboys and gets cut two days later. His career hasn't lived up to it's potential after multiple injuries as a pro.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have released DT Frank Okam, DT Amobi Okoye, SS Larry Asante, WR Landon Cox, LB Rennie Curran, LB Jacob Cutrera, TE Drake Dunsmore, PK Kai Forbath, OT Jermarcus Hardrick, RB Robert Hughes, FB Cody Johnson, RB Mossis Madu, DT Jordan Nix, C Moe Petrus, TE Zach Pianalto, QB Brett Ratliff, CB James Rogers, WR Jordan Shipley and DT Teryl White. The team also waived injured OG Desmond Wynn (undisclosed).

Footballguys view: Shipley has been released by two teams in the last month. Injuries have held him back during his pro career and he may find it difficult to find a new team.

Buccaneers | Head coach praises Jordan Shipley    Thu Aug 23, 02:06 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Greg Schiano praised WR Jordan Shipley, saying he has looked good in his first two days of practice. 'He moves well. He is efficient. Natural under the ball in punt returns,' Schiano said. Schiano also said Shipley will play in the team's third preseason game, likely later in the game.

Footballguys view: Shipley can be a QBs best friend because of his crisp routes and sure hands. He just needs to stay healthy as that's been a problem for him during his entire college and pro career.

Buccaneers | Jordan Shipley looks healthy in first practice    Tue Aug 21, 04:49 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Jordan Shipley (hip) did not look like his injury was slowing him down at all in his first practice with the Bucs Tuesday, Aug. 21.

Footballguys view: Shipley is a crisp route runner with sure hands but injuries have held him back during his pro career. He'll compete with Preston Parker and Sammie Stroughter to be the team's slot WR.

Buccaneers | Awarded Jordan Shipley    Mon Aug 20, 04:20 PM

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were awarded WR Jordan Shipley off waivers from the Cincinnati Bengals Monday, Aug. 20.

Cowboys | May pursue Jordan Shipley     Sat Aug 18, 02:39 PM

The Dallas Cowboys are expected to show interest in free-agent WR Jordan Shipley (Bengals) and may decide to claim him off waivers.

Bengals | Make roster moves    Fri Aug 17, 02:35 PM

The Cincinnati Bengals cut WR Jordan Shipley and K Thomas Weber Friday, Aug. 17.

Footballguys view: Andrew Hawkins has a better chance of making the team as a slot receiver now, but the performances of rookies Marvin Jones and Mohamed Sanu, along with Brandon Tate and Armon Binns, made Shipley expendable. He was hurt enough in college to get a sixth year of eligibility at Texas, so it might just be a case of Shipley's body not bouncing back quickly enough.

Bengals | Jordan Shipley could be on roster bubbler    Mon Aug 13, 01:46 PM

Cincinnati Bengals WR Jordan Shipley (knee) could be in the roster bubble during training camp because of the competition at wide receiver. A key factor for Shipley to make the roster will be how he is able to return after suffering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament last season.

Footballguys view: Shipley just can't stay healthy and those durability issues may cost him his job. He's got good hands and can be a trusted underneath receiver. His knee injury may have robbed Shipley of his run after the catch elusiveness.

Bengals | Two begin practicing    Mon Jul 30, 04:11 PM

Cincinnati Bengals WR Jordan Shipley (knee) and CB Nate Clements (abdomen) are participating in practice Monday, July 30, for the first time since training camp started. Both participated in individual and position drills but are sitting out team drills.

Footballguys view: Shipley should be the favorite to win the slot receiver job, but his fantasy value is still minimal. Clements return will bring a sigh of relief to a team without first-round cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick for at least a few weeks.

Bengals | Jordan Shipley figures to be near 100 percent    Wed Jul 18, 01:11 AM

Cincinnati Bengals WR Jordan Shipley (knee) figures to be near 100 percent for the start of training camp after seeing limited work during organized team activities (OTAs). He is making his way back from a serious knee injury.

Footballguys view: Shipley should be considered the favorite to be the Bengals WR3 slot position in 2012. He has fantastic hands and good run after the catch ability but injuries have prevented him from playing up to his potential as a pro.

Bengals | Jordan Shipley a candidate to start on PUP list    Sat Jul 7, 03:06 PM

Cincinnati Bengals WR Jordan Shipley (knee) is a candidate to start the season on the Physically Unable to Perform list because they are being cautious with his recovery and have depth at wide receiver.

Footballguys view: That would force Shipley to miss the first six weeks of the regular season. After that, the team would have three weeks to determine his fate for the rest of the year. He could be re-activated or put on season ending Injured Reserve at that time. Shipley has great hands and could be a quality slot WR but injuries have prevented him from producing during his pro career.

Bengals | Jordan Shipley dealing with some stiffness    Wed Jun 13, 01:47 AM

Updating a previous report, Cincinnati Bengals WR Jordan Shipley (knee) said Tuesday, June 12, that he is still dealing with some stiffness in his surgically repaired knee. 'There's still a little bit of stiffness, but nothing big,' Shipley said. 'I'm just kind of in the last phase of getting the speed back and all that.'

Footballguys view: Shipley was injured enough at University of Texas to get a sixth year of eligibility. At some point, the mounting injuries will rob him of his burst and speed, but probably not this early in his career.

Bengals | Jordan Shipley limited    Tue Jun 12, 06:48 PM

Cincinnati Bengals WR Jordan Shipley (knee) is being limited during minicamp this week as a precaution, but he's expected to be fully healthy in time for the start of training camp.

Footballguys view: The number two wide receiver position is wide open in Cincinnati, but Shipley should have the inside track to be the top slot receiver as long as he is physically ready.

Bengals | Jordan Shipley being gradually cleared    Tue May 29, 11:20 PM

Cincinnati Bengals WR Jordan Shipley (knee) is still coming back from a knee injury last September, and he is not yet at 100 percent. He figures to be the team's main slot receiver if healthy. Shipley is being gradually cleared to resume team activities.

Footballguys view: Shipley probably won't have a huge fantasy impact, but if he's 100%, his presence will help Andy Dalton and the Bengals passing game.

Cincinnati Bengals WR Jordan Shipley (knee) said he is still rehabbing his surgically repaired knee but expects to be ready for the start of training camp.

Footballguys view: If healthy Shipley should be the Bengals starting slot WR. Andre 'Bubba' Caldwell moved on in free agency to the Broncos and Shipley's skill set is best suited for the slot. We expect the Bengals to add another WR through the draft to be the starter opposite A.J. Green.

Bengals | OC Gruden loves Dalton's anticipation    Sat May 7, 07:39 PM

Geoff Hobson, from Bengals.com, reports that new offensive coordinator Jay Gruden loves rookie QB Andy Dalton's anticipation and ability to hit receivers in stride, giving them good run after the catch opportunity. "What impresses me is the location of the throws. He gives his guy a chance to run after the catch," he says. "That's very important throwing to backs, throwing to (Jermaine) Gresham, throwing to A.J. Green. A big part of these guys' strength is the ability to run after the catch. This offense, if we do throw shorter passes, four, five yards, we're throwing it to a location so they can catch and run. I think this guy does the best job of anybody in the draft, in my opinion, of doing that. I'm not saying nobody else can't. I just thought he was the best one at it."

Footballguys view: Dalton's skill set may not work in every system, but he could excel under Jay Gruden. The rookie has high football intelligence, can quickly and precisely get the ball to his playmakers, and is not rattled by pressure. With guys like A.J. Green and Jermaine Gresham catching the ball it could help Dalton look really good early and often during his rookie season.

Cincinnati Bengals WRs Jordan Shipley and Quan Cosby have been working at cornerback during practice because they could be used in an emergency due to the injuries the team has in its secondary, reports Kevin Goheen, of The Cincinnati Enquirer.

Bengals | Cedric Benson questions offense    Fri Sep 24, 10:19 AM

Cincinnati Bengals RB Cedric Benson has begun to question why the team is not running the football more often, according to Joe Reedy, of The Cincinnati Enquirer. During an interview with SIRIUS NFL Radio, Benson questioned the offense's direction. 'I don't know. With all those players and names you brought up (Terrell Owens, Jordan Shipley, Jermaine Gresham) they're all, except for one, directly involved in the passing game. So, I mean, if I had to guess, it seems that that's kind of the route that we're trying to go, which can be a bit frustrating because we were successful running the football last year and being a power team,' Benson said. 'Being that type of team got us where we ultimately wanted to be, which was in the playoffs. I don't know what would be the reason the team would want to change their identity, unless in the past season it didn't work. But that's not the case here. And, I mean, I don't know. I guess whoever's making those shots, or calling those shots, you got to kind of roll with the punches.'

Bengals | Rookies make contributions in first preseason game    Thu Aug 19, 05:36 PM

Cincinnati Bengals TE Jermaine Gresham, WR Jordan Shipley and C Reggie Stephens all made contributions during the team's first preseason game last weekend while playing with the first-team offense, according to The Cincinnati Enquirer's Joe Reedy. Gresham had three catches for 37 yards while also providing some nice blocks. 'He was coming up and talking every play because was involved in the blocking. He's a young guy and has to get the feel of it,' RB Cedric Benson said of Gresham. 'He got it together in the second quarter. That's a great sign a guy who realizes his mistake and knows where he is going to get ahead.' Shipley had five receptions for 50 yards during the game and has emerged as the favorite to win the slot-receiver job.

Footballguys view: Both Gresham and Shipley made big plays in the game against the Broncos. For years the Bengals have been trying to find an impact tight end, and they may have that in rookie Jermaine Gresham. Jordan Shipley was one of the most dangerous receivers in college football last year, and could develop into a quality starting receiver one day for Cincy.
