NFL | Former teammate estimates Junior Seau had 1,500 concussions    Fri May 4, 09:28 AM

Former NFL MLB Gary Plummer said he thinks the late LB Junior Seau had probably 1,500 concussions in his career. 'In the 1990s, I did a concussion seminar. They said a Grade 3 concussion meant you were knocked out, and a Grade 1 meant you were seeing stars after a hit, which made me burst out in laughter,' Plummer said. 'As a middle linebacker in the NFL, if you don't have five of these (Grade 1 effects) each game, you were inactive the next game. Junior played for 20 years. That's five concussions a game, easily. How many in his career then? That's over 1,500 concussions. I know that's startling, but I know it's true. I had over 1,000 in my 15 years. I felt the effects of it. I felt depression going on throughout my divorce. Junior went through it with his divorce.'

Patriots | Seau signs    Tue Oct 13, 12:31 PM

ESPN.com reports the New England Patriots have signed free-agent LB Junior Seau (Patriots), according to a news release from Versus. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. 'I'm very fortunate and honored to be involved with two class organizations - the New England Patriots and Versus,' Seau said in the statement. 'I want to thank the management of both for making my return to the NFL with the New England Patriots a reality.'

Footballguys view: Seau is done being a rodeo clown, and now instead of taking on bulls he will go head to head against offensive linemen. He had wanted to return with 6 games left in the regular season, so he's back a bit sooner than he had anticipated. We'll see if the old man can hold up to the grind of the NFL season at such an advanced age.

Patriots | Seau to sign next week    Wed Oct 7, 12:12 PM

Adam Schefter, of ESPN, reports the New England Patriots will sign free-agent LB Junior Seau (Patriots) next week.

Footballguys view: This move is not a shock to anyone that follows the NFL. Seau is done being a rodeo clown (for now) and has decided to take on offensive linemen instead of 2,000 lbs of nasty aka bulls. According to Schefter the Pats are waiting one more week because Seau would not be active this week for the game against the Broncos.

Patriots | Seau says he'd 'answer the call' from the Patriots    Sat Oct 3, 02:21 PM

Christopher L. Gasper, from the Boston Globe, reports former Patriots linebacker Junior Seau was in town last week to film an episode of his new Versus series ''Sports Jobs with Junior Seau,'' which debuts Dec. 2. When asked about a possible return to football Seau said, "The Pats are the team I'll answer a call for and the only team. The reason being is the relationship between [Bill] Belichick and I. Belichick if he does call, he doesn't call anyone without having a plan, and for me I believe in what he does, that's No. 1. No. 2, I know the system, so if I'm ever going to stick my neck out there in the gridiron I know that I have to have a chance to succeed, not only for myself but for the team and for the city."

Footballguys view: Now that he's done getting run over by bulls, Junior Seau is looking to clobber running backs once again. He's stated earlier this year that he'd have about 6 games left in him, so we'll see if the Patriots give him a call as the regular season draws to a close.

Footballguys view: Seau may return to the field for the Patriots as we near the end of the season, and we hope his teammates give him grief about his rodeo clown impersonation.

Ian Rapoport, of the Boston Herald, reports unrestricted free-agent LB Junior Seau (Patriots) said he only consider joining the New England Patriots in December or January because he believes he would be more helpful at the end of the season than at the beginning.

Footballguys view: We applaude Seau for his honesty here. Because of that we may not see him at the end of the year because Jerod Mayo should be back in time for a playoff push in New England.

Patriots | Seau would consider comeback    Tue Sep 8, 06:14 PM

The Associated Press reports unrestricted free-agent LB Junior Seau (Patriots) said he would consider a comeback if the New England Patriots wanted to sign him this season. Seau said he would only sign with the Patriots and is willing to play up to six games.

NFL | Seau to make comeback?    Mon Jul 6, 12:54 PM

SportsRadioInterviews.com reports free-agent LB Junior Seau (Patriots) said during a radio interview that he is unsure about his status for the 2009 season. Seau said he is currently retired, but that could change later in the season. 'I'll definitely look at it at the end of October or November. Let's put it that way,' Seau said.

Footballguys view: If he can get paid and experience the rush of being part of an NFL season and team once again without the rigors of training camp, a warrior like Seau would find that hard to pass up.
