Falcons | Kurt Benkert may push for backup job    Sun Jun 28, 01:56 PM

Atlanta Falcons QB Kurt Benkert may push QB Matt Schaub for the No. 2 quarterback job, but Schaub is the clear favorite for the job.

Footballguys view: Benkert is built a lot like Schaub, but just a much younger version. Both quarterbacks played their college ball at Virginia and are known as prototypical pocket passers. Schaub was a third-round pick way back in the 2004 NFL draft, while Benkert was picked up as an undrafted free agent in 2018 and has been developing on the Falcons roster ever since.

Falcons | Matt Schaub passes for 460 yards    Sun Oct 27, 07:59 PM

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Schaub completed 39-of-52 passes for 460 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Week 8 against the Seattle Seahawks, his third career game with at least 450 yards. He joined Ben Roethlisberger (6), Dan Marino (4), Drew Brees (3) and Peyton Manning (3) as one of five players to throw for 450 or more yards in three or more games in his career.

Footballguys view: Schaub moved the offense well in the second half and didn't allow the team to languish down 24-0 at halftime. Fantasy teams should be grateful for his ability to support the value of the Falcons passing game pieces today.

Falcons | New deal for Matt Schaub    Sat Mar 2, 12:57 PM

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Schaub agreed to a two-year contract extension with the Falcons Saturday, March 2. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Schaub will continue to serve as the veteran backup behind Matt Ryan. The Falcons only have one other quarterback on the roster, 2018 UDFA Kurt Benkert (Virginia) who continues to develop on their practice squad.

Packers | Backup QB on Green Bay's FA want list?    Mon Feb 11, 01:33 AM

The Green Bay Packers may look to sign a veteran in free agency to play behind QB Aaron Rodgers, in the opinion of Packers Wire's Zach Kruse, who lists QBs Ryan Fitzpatrick (Buccaneers), Matt Schaub (Falcons), Robert Griffin III (Redskins), Sean Mannion (Rams) and Austin Davis (Titans) as possible fits; everyone on the list except Fitzpatrick previously played for head coach Matt LaFleur earlier in their careers.

Falcons | Matt Schaub back with Atlanta    Wed Mar 8, 03:22 PM

Atlanta Falcons impending free-agent QB Matt Schaub agreed to terms on a two-year contract with the Falcons Wednesday, March 8, worth $9 million, according to sources.

Footballguys view: Instead of following Kyle Shanahan to the 49ers, Schaub gets quite a bit of money to stay as the backup behind Matt Ryan.

NFL | Matt Schaub wants to start    Mon Feb 13, 10:32 AM

Atlanta Falcons impending free-agent QB Matt Schaub wants to find a team with a chance to start in 2017.

Footballguys view: Good luck with that. Now, there is buzz building about Schaub potentially following Kyle Shanahan to the 49ers where he could start. Schaub knows the Shanahan system, and the 49ers could then take their time finding a franchise quarterback. Stay tuned.

49ers | San Francisco interested in Matt Schaub?    Sun Feb 5, 11:03 AM

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Schaub could be of interest to the San Francisco 49ers if offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan joins the organization as their new head coach, according to multiple sources. However, it is uncertain if Schaub would be used as a starter, backup or bridge to a future quarterback.

Footballguys view: Schaub would be assistant coach as much as backup quarterback because of his knowledge of Shanahan's system and philosophy.

Falcons | Matt Ryan plays one snap    Thu Sep 1, 09:26 PM

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan played one snap in the preseason finale against the Jacksonville Jaguars Thursday, Sept. 1, before being replaced by QB Matt Schaub.

Footballguys view: Nobody is risking Matt Ryan in the last game of the preseason. Consider him a decent QB2 this season, though we are hoping Mohamed Sanu can be a solid No. 2 receiver for the team which will help Ryan's production.

Falcons | Matt Schaub shines against Washington    Thu Aug 11, 10:47 PM

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Schaub completed 10 of his 15 passes for 179 yards in a 23-17 win over the Washington Redskins in the preseason Thursday, Aug. 11.

Footballguys view: Schaub, returning to the birthplace of his NFL career, is a decent backup for Matt Ryan and that's about it. That he was able to turn that into several multi-million dollar contracts is impressive, but we aren't shocked he's back in this position. There's no reason to own him in any format.

Falcons | Matt Schaub impressing coaches    Tue Aug 2, 01:29 PM

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Schaub has impressed Falcons head coach Dan Quinn with his coolness under pressure. 'He's also got a real coolness about him," Quinn said. 'When the pressure's on, he kind of looks at it and smiles and says alright here's what we're going to do, and that's ensuring feeling know that that's an important job for us. We couldn't be more thrilled that Matt's here with us.'

Footballguys view: Schaub is a seasoned veteran, and this isn't his first rodeo...or training camp with the Falcons. He spent three years with Atlanta after they made him a third-round pick in the 2004 NFL draft. Schaub gives them veteran insurance behind Matt Ryan, but if Ryan goes down we're not going to recommend you rush out to get him.

Ravens | Baltimore non-committal on QB    Fri Dec 18, 04:51 PM

Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said he isn't naming a starting quarterback for Week 15 against the Kansas City Chiefs Friday, Dec. 18, even though QB Matt Schaub (chest) is listed as probable. QB Jimmy Clausen is another option to start against the Chiefs. Clausen took at least half of practice repetitions both Wednesday, Dec. 16, and Thursday, Dec. 17, according to offensive coordinator Marc Trestman. Harbaugh said Schaub has a chance to be 100% healthy by Sunday, Dec. 20. It's highly unlikely that QB Ryan Mallett will see playing time Sunday after being signed this week.

Footballguys view: Schaub is the better starter for both the Ravens passing game options and the Chiefs D/ST fantasy prospects. We'll be watching this one Sunday morning to help break some ties on close calls.

Ravens | Matt Schaub has full practice    Thu Dec 17, 07:00 PM

Updating a previous report, Baltimore Ravens QB Matt Schaub (chest) put in a full practice Thursday, Dec. 17, after being limited Wednesday, Dec. 16.

Footballguys view: Put your helmet back down Jimmy Clausen, Schaub might be back! It doesn't make much of a difference for fantasy GMs though as we would avoid both of them as no better than a QB3 this week against a tough Kansas City defense.

Ravens | Matt Schaub labors in practice    Thu Dec 17, 01:50 PM

Baltimore Ravens QB Matt Schaub (chest) practiced Thursday, Dec. 17, but appeared to labor while making a few throws.

Footballguys view: It's likely another edition of the "Jimmy Clausen Funtime Hour" against Kansas City and we wouldn't wish that on anyone. Keep Clausen out of your lineups as he is no more than a QB4.

Ravens | Matt Schaub sits Wednesday    Wed Dec 16, 01:46 PM

Baltimore Ravens QB Matt Schaub (chest, shoulder) is out of practice Wednesday, Dec. 16.

Ravens | Some hope Matt Schaub starts    Tue Dec 15, 09:53 AM

Baltimore Ravens QB Matt Schaub (chest, shoulder) has given some hope he could start in Week 15.

Footballguys view: Even if Schaub does start, it's not going to make a big difference. Actually, if Schaub is on the field as the starter then we like the Chiefs defense even more. Schaub is almost always a lock to throw a pick six if he's in the lineup.

Ravens | Matt Schaub questionable    Fri Dec 11, 05:11 PM

Baltimore Ravens QB Matt Schaub (chest) did not practice Friday, Dec. 11, but is questionable for Week 14 against the Seattle Seahawks.

Ravens | Matt Scaub, Crockett Gillmore absent     Thu Dec 10, 07:24 PM

Baltimore Ravens QB Matt Schaub (shoulder, knee) and TE Crockett Gillmore (back) did not participate in practice Thursday, Dec. 10.

Footballguys view: Could it be Jimmy Clausen time? If so, run--don't walk--from all of the players on this passing offense. We saw what he did to the Bears, after all. Don't let the horrible fate that befell owners of those players happen to you. If Baltimore is wise, they will run Javorius Allen as much as possible (and we expect it, as we have Allen as an RB2).

Baltimore Ravens QB Matt Schaub (head) is 'banged up and sore,' and head coach John Harbaugh said Schaub and QB Jimmy Clausen could play Sunday, Dec. 13. Schaub will likely be limited in practice this week.

Footballguys view: Schaub should start if he's healthy enough to play. Clausen could play if (when?) Schaub gets further banged up in the Week 14 game against the Seahawks.

Baltimore Ravens QB Matt Schaub (head) passed the concussion tests after the team's Week 13 game and passed them again Monday, Dec. 7, according to head coach John Harbaugh.

Ravens | Joe Flacco has extensive knee damage    Mon Nov 23, 12:06 PM

Baltimore Ravens QB Joe Flacco (knee) said he tore the anterior and medial collateral ligaments in his knee in Week 11, although he has yet to have an MRI exam. Flacco is expected to miss the rest of the year, and it'll be the first time he has missed a game since being drafted in 2008. Flacco had started 122 straight games, which was the fifth-longest streak in NFL history.

Footballguys view: Horrible news for the Ravens here. Flacco's knee may not be ready by the time training camp starts next year. That means he could start the season on the shelf, and possibly on the PUP list. In the meantime, the Ravens will trudge through the rest of this season with Matt Schaub as their starter.

Ravens | Matt Schaub helping Joe Flacco    Fri Jul 10, 09:40 PM

Baltimore Ravens QB Joe Flacco said QB Matt Schaub has helped him understand the concepts of offensive coordinator Marc Trestman's system.

Footballguys view: Schaub is more valuable as a coach than a backup quarterback at this point. Trestman's system will retain some of the element of Gary Kubiak's, whom Schaub was under for most of his career in Houston. The Trestman philosophy is more pass-friendly, which should help Flacco's fantasy value once some steady options at WR and TE are established.

Ravens | Matt Schaub's elbow fine    Wed Apr 1, 02:54 PM

Baltimore Ravens QB Matt Schaub (elbow) said his elbow is fine, and it wasn't a factor at all in 2014.

Footballguys view: Schaub's play has fallen off, but he's not going to blame the elbow. He'll work nicely as a reserve player behind Joe Flacco.

Ravens | Matt Schaub signs with Baltimore    Tue Mar 31, 02:17 PM

Updating an earlier report, free-agent QB Matt Schaub (Raiders) signed with the Baltimore Ravens Tuesday, March 31. Terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Schaub will give the team a nice backup quarterback behind Joe Flacco. He's certainly a better fit as a reserve player than last year's backup Tyrod Taylor (Bills). Schaub has a skill set more similar to that of Flacco.

Ravens | Matt Schaub to back up Joe Flacco?    Mon Mar 30, 11:29 PM

Free-agent QB Matt Schaub (Raiders) has received interest from the Baltimore Ravens, as well as the Atlanta Falcons and New York Jets. According to a source, Schaub is expected to sign this week.

Footballguys view: Schaub is a reserve quarterback at this point in his career. He would be a good backup behind Flacco in Baltimore, and Schaub would give the Ravens veteran depth at the position.

Falcons | Atlanta to bring Matt Schaub back?    Mon Mar 30, 11:29 PM

The Atlanta Falcons are interested in free-agent QB Matt Schaub (Raiders). The Falcons, Baltimore Ravens and New York Jets are interested in his services, and a source said he is expected to choose a team this week.

Footballguys view: Schaub began his career with the Falcons. In 2004, the Falcons selected Schaub in the third round of the draft. He was then a backup behind Michael Vick, but eventually was traded to the Houston Texans for two second-round picks in 2007. Schaub is not the same player he used to be, but he could give some team quality veteran depth at the position.

Jets | Matt Schaub drawing interest from Jets    Mon Mar 30, 11:23 PM

Free-agent QB Matt Schaub (Raiders) is drawing interest from the New York Jets, as well as the Atlanta Falcons and Baltimore Ravens. According to a source, Schaub is expected to sign this week.

Footballguys view: Just what the Jets need, another quarterback who is not a good option as a starter. Schaub could be a nice backup somewhere, but with the Jets he might have a chance to start. Currently, Geno Smith and Ryan Fitzpatrick will compete for that right in 2015. The Jets might also have interest in Oregon QB Marcus Mariota in the 2015 NFL draft.

Free-agent QB Matt Schaub (Raiders) is expected to sign with a team this week, according to a source. Schaub has received interest from the New York Jets, Baltimore Ravens and Atlanta Falcons.

Falcons | Could add Matt Schaub    Fri Mar 27, 12:26 PM

Free-agent QB Matt Schaub (Raiders) could be added by the Atlanta Falcons, as they currently have QBs T.J. Yates and Sean Renfree backing up QB Matt Ryan. New Falcons head coach Dan Quinn didn't rule out signing Schaub, who is familiar with offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan's systems from his days with the Houston Texans.

Raiders | Matt Schaub released by Oakland    Mon Mar 16, 04:56 PM
