Adam Teicher, of The Kansas City Star, reports the Kansas City Chiefs are likely to use a running-back-by-committee with free-agent RB Larry Johnson (Chiefs) gone. The committee will include RBs Kolby Smith, Jamaal Charles and Dantrell Savage. Charles started and played more snaps in Week 9, but Smith could eventually take more of the workload. The team still appears hesitant to give the ball to Charles in running formations.
| Footballguys view: Jamaal Charles is better and more explosive in space, but Kolby Smith is a better runner between the tackles and at the goalline. With the Chiefs playing in catch up mode frequently, it could mean more of Jamaal Charles because of his ability as a receiver out of the backfield. |

Adam Teicher, of The Kansas City Star, reports Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles' time to prove his worth to the team could be running out.
| Footballguys view: RB Kolby Smith (knee) is eligible to be activated later in October, and Smith could become the team's No. 2 running back ahead of Charles. Dantrell Savage is another option to become the primary backup to Larry Johnson. However, Charles may still figure into the team's plans. If the Chiefs don't view him as a regular, then he could still be used as a spot player capable of causing matchup problems for opposing defenses. |

Adam Teicher, from the Kansas City Star, reports Jamaal Charles was inactive against the Raiders, in effect trading places with Dantrell Savage, who didn't play in Baltimore. Charles said Monday that the coaches haven't told him why he didn't play against Oakland. "I still don't even know," he said. Against the Raiders, Savage replaced Charles as running back in obvious passing situations. He was one of the busiest Chiefs against Oakland, catching six passes for 43 yards and rushing three times for 26 yards.
| Footballguys view: Kent Babb, from the Kansas City Star, just tweeted that Charles was held out of the game so that Dantrell Savage could get some playing time. Head coach Todd Haley commented that "there's going to be somebody left out every week." Not encouraging news for Charles' fantasy owners. He could have a few decent games here and there, but as long as the rotation with Savage continues Charles will have little fantasy value. |
