Cowboys | Could target defensive tackles in draft    Wed Feb 20, 03:10 PM

The Dallas Cowboys are likely to take a close look at defensive tackles at the draft combine this week. With Monte Kiffin taking over the defense, the Cowboys may look to find a Warren Sapp type player in the draft, which is good news since this is deep draft in that position according to Mel Kiper. "It's a loaded group," Kiper said. "You can also find defensive tackles in rounds two, three and four. If you need nose tackles, if you need three-techniques, you got it all covered in this draft."

Footballguys view: The Cowboys interior offensive line is a problem area, but with a major change in base defensive scheme, they'll have to invest some in the front seven during the draft.

NFL | Warren Sapp likely gone from network     Mon Apr 9, 08:36 AM

Former NFL DL Warren Sapp's employment with the NFL Network is likely over, according to two league sources. Sapp has not been on the network since the week of his tweets and on-air comments that labeled free-agent TE Jeremy Shockey (Panthers) as the snitch in the New Orleans Saints bounty scandal - something commissioner Roger Goodell said was not true. Sapp's next on-air appearance has not been determined, according to a source.

Saints | Jeremy Shockey accused of snitching     Thu Mar 22, 08:42 AM

Free-agent TE Jeremy Shockey (Panthers) is the whistle-blower who alerted the league to the New Orleans Saints' bounty program, according to NFL Network analyst Warren Sapp. Sapp said he did not receive his information from anyone at the league, but from a trusted source close to the situation. Shockey adamantly denied the charge.

Footballguys view: If the league doesn't pursue action against Sapp, they could be seen as hypocritical. Shockey has since tweeted a text message from Payton clearing him.

Redskins | Warren Sapp critical of Albert Haynesworth    Tue Jun 29, 10:21 AM

Former NFL DL Warren Sapp was critical of Washington Redskins DL Albert Haynesworth during an interview with SIRIUS NFL Radio, saying Haynesworth should quit his feud with the team. 'Let's stop the BS, like we like to say,' Sapp said. 'You sat at the table. The people told you they had a very lovely check for you ... Albert Haynesworth, you took the check, now show up to the job, son. It's that simple. You take that kind of check. I mean, I'll flip dogs for you. I mean, c'mon, what you want me to do, you want me to return punts? I mean, what? Stop it. Stop it. Stop it.'

Footballguys view: Sapp is known to never hold his tongue, and he's lined up behind other players who have publicly criticized Albert Haynesworth. Sapp always has something to say, and the 'you want me to return punts?' comment was classic Sapp. If Sapp came out of retirement to only return one punt during the preseason it would be must see TV.

Raiders | Sapp says young players did not listen    Mon Jun 22, 10:05 AM

Peter King, of SI.com, reports retired DL Warren Sapp said some of the younger players on the Oakland Raiders roster, including DLs Tommy Kelly and Terdell Sands, would not listen to Sapp when he tried to give the players advice. '... In this NFL, the old vets don't factor in. The kids don't listen to nobody. Nobody! My last year in Oakland, I'd try to talk to some of the kids. Tommy Kelly, Terdell Sands. But they had no interest. I thought the ghosts in that building were so valuable, but none of the young guys cared. Once in a while, one of the old legends would come in the building, or make a trip. Jack Tatum would be around, and I'd say, 'You know who that dude is? You know how he played?' And the kids would be like, 'Nah, I don't care.''

Footballguys view: It's a sad commentary on some of the young players in the NFL when you hear this kind of stuff. Sapp continued and told a story of how Vince Young didn't want to hear from Kerry Collins last season when he was hurt and had his mental breakdown. Young could have gotten a lot of sound insight from a player like Collins, who has had more ups and downs than most QBs that have played 10+ years. Not all young guys are like this in the NFL, it's just kind of surprising to hear about this in a game that requires such a mental edge.
