Dolphins | Mohamed Sanu catches on with Miami    Tue Jul 26, 02:25 PM

Free-agent WR Mohamed Sanu (49ers) reportedly agreed to terms on an undisclosed contract with the Miami Dolphins on Tuesday, July 26.

Footballguys view: Sanu knows the offense that Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel is implementing, and he's there to be veteran depth. He won't be asked to do much as a receiver if everyone stays healthy, but Sanu brings experience and blocking ability to the position.

49ers | Mohamed Sanu activated    Wed Jan 26, 03:00 PM

San Francisco 49ers WR Mohamed Sanu (foot) was activated from the Reserve/Injured list Wednesday, Jan. 26.

Footballguys view: Sanu has been out of action for some time. In eight games this year, Sanu caught 15 passes for 177 yards. Even though he's activated, it doesn't mean Sanu is going to do much if he is active for the NFC Championship Game.

  49ers | San Francisco's Week 10 injury report.     Sat Nov 13, 06:38 PM

San Francisco 49ers C Alex Mack (rest), OT Trent Williams (rest), DL Arik Armstead (neck), TE George Kittle (calf), RB Elijah Mitchell (rib), CB Emmanuel Moseley (neck), and OL Tom Compton (rest) fully practiced Saturday, Nov. 13, and are not on the Week 10 injury report. RB JaMycal Hasty (ankle), DL Maurice Hurst (calf), CB Dre Kirkpatrick (ankle), WR Mohamed Sanu (knee), and S Tavon Wilson (foot) did not practice and have been ruled out. S Jimmie Ward (quadriceps), CB Josh Norman (rib), and DL Arden Key (oblique) were limited and are questionable.

Footballguys view: With Hasty out, Jeff Wilson should get on the field this week after not recording a snap in his return to the roster last week. Kyle Juszczyk could get more work to replace Sanu if the team isn't confident in Jauan Jennings or Trent Sherfield.

49ers | Mohamed Sanu back with Niners    Sat Mar 27, 12:29 PM

Free agent WR Mohamed Sanu (Lions) on Saturday, March 27, agreed on a one-year contract to sign with the San Francisco 49ers.

Footballguys view: Sanu knows Kyle Shanahan's offense like the back of his hand...but don't expect too much production from the seasoned veteran. He's there for his experience but is certainly no lock for the 53-man roster.

Lions | Mohamed Sanu finds end zone    Thu Nov 26, 04:55 PM

Detroit Lions WR Mohamed Sanu caught four passes for 32 yards against the Houston Texans in Week 12. He was targeted four times during the game.

Footballguys view: Sanu has bounced around the league over the last year or so. His first catch with the Lions was a touchdown in garbage time. When Kenny Golladay is healthy, that will slide Sanu down the depth chart.

Footballguys view: That's how desperate the Lions are at the wide receiver position. They have Kenny Golladay and Danny Amendola out this week. Sanu will work in as a reserve receiver behind Marvin Jones, Marvin Hall, and Quintez Cephus.

Lions | Mohamed Sanu gets a look from Detroit    Mon Nov 2, 05:23 PM

Free-agent WR Mohamed Sanu worked out for the Detroit Lions on Monday, Nov. 2.

Footballguys view: The Lions are going to be without Kenny Golladay (hip) for at least one game, so working out Sanu makes sense. They're likely just updating their emergency list but if Marvin Jones Jr is dealt away then perhaps signing Sanu is in the Lions future.

49ers | Mohamed Sanu back on the market    Tue Oct 6, 01:41 PM

San Francisco 49ers WR Mohamed Sanu was released Wednesday, Oct. 7.

Footballguys view: Sanu is simply not the same player he used to be. The ankle injury he suffered in 2019 has robbed him of the game he used to have. Perhaps some team will have interest in the veteran but he's unlikely to do much if he finds a new landing spot.

49ers | Mohamed Sanu signing with Niners    Tue Sep 15, 06:50 PM

Free-agent WR Mohamed Sanu (Patriots) is signing an undisclosed contract with the San Francisco 49ers, according to his agent Tuesday, Sept. 15.

Footballguys view: Sanu failed to impress during his time with the Patriots last year and couldn't make the team this year in training camp. The Patriots have a group of wide receivers lacking punch...just like the 49ers do. Sanu's ankle injury held him back but with the 49ers he might just have to play a larger role despite not being himself. Deebo Samuel is on Injured Reserve and the 49ers are desperate for help.

Patriots | Mo Sanu officially released    Thu Sep 3, 05:45 PM

New England Patriots WR Mohamed Sanu was officially waived Thursday, Sept. 3.

Footballguys view: Sanu is now free to sign with another team. He failed to impress during his brief time with the Patriots last year and couldn't even make the team this year. No matter where he lands, Sanu won't be in line to produce much.

Patriots | Mohamed Sanu to be released    Wed Sep 2, 06:03 PM

New England Patriots WR Mohamed Sanu will be cut, according to a source Wednesday, Sept. 2.

Footballguys view: The move saves the team $6.5 million in cap space. Sanu was supposed to help them last year when the team traded for him but he was injured and didn't look good trying to play through his ankle issue. They are thin at wide receiver right now and might make a move to add better depth at the top of the depth chart before the start of the regular season.

Patriots | Mohamed Sanu activated    Tue Aug 4, 05:06 PM

New England Patriots WR Mohamed Sanu (undisclosed) passed his physical and was activated from the Physically Unable to Perform list Tuesday, Aug. 4, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Sanu is looking for a bounce-back season after struggling to impress while banged up during his Patriots debut in 2019. With QB Cam Newton tossing him the rock, Sanu could have some deep flex appeal for Fantasy GMs this year.

Patriots | Mohamed Sanu placed on PUP list    Sun Aug 2, 04:57 PM

New England Patriots WR Mohamed Sanu (undisclosed) was placed on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list Sunday, Aug. 2, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Sanu shed his walking boot in May, so this is more of a procedural move than anything. Reports indicate there is little chance that he would miss time when the season kicks off. Sanu is looking to bounce back after an injury-marred 2019 debut with the Patriots. We like him as a late-round add for wide receiver depth (and upside) in PPR leagues.

Patriots | Mohamed Sanu going the extra mile    Sun Jul 19, 10:27 PM

New England Patriots WR Mohamed Sanu hired a full-time coach to live with him this offseason in a quest to improve his game, according to ESPN's Mike Reiss.

Footballguys view: Sanu is coming back from ankle surgery to correct an injury that slowed him while he was with the Patriots last year. He might not create fantasy relevance of his own, but if he is productive, then it will be tougher for Julian Edelman to remain an everyweek fantasy starter without Tom Brady.

Patriots | Jarrett Stidham out with teammates    Sun Jul 19, 01:15 PM

New England Patriots QBs Jarrett Stidham and Brian Hoyer have been working out with teammates this past week. WR Mohamed Sanu, WR Gunner Olszewski, RB Damien Harris and TE Dalton Keene were among the players participating in the workouts.

Footballguys view: Cam Newton was working out with Patriots free agent signing Damiere Byrd, who was his teammate in Carolina, and last week worked out with Sanu and 2019 first-round pick N'keal Harry. Stidham has a longer tenure with the team, and his familiarity with the offense and roster will be his best bet to win the starting job over Newton.

Patriots | Mohamed Sanu working with Jarrett Stidham    Tue Jul 14, 04:44 PM

New England Patriots WR Mohamed Sanu shared a video of himself working out with QB Jarrett Stidham Monday, July 13.

Footballguys view: Sanu should be a bigger part of the Patriots pass offense after having an ankle issue that hampered him last year surgically repaired this offseason. He'll probably hurt the ceiling of Julian Edelman more than he'll establish fantasy relevance for himself.

Patriots | Trainer predicts bounce back for Mohamed Sanu    Thu Jun 25, 06:55 PM

New England Patriots WR Mohamed Sanu (ankle) will be 'faster, quicker, leaner, and in better shape' than he was in 2019 after undergoing offseason surgery for a high-ankle injury, according to trainer Hilton Alexander. Alexander said Sanu was a 'shell of himself' after being acquired from the Atlanta Falcons.

Footballguys view: Sanu had ankle surgery in early March and has been on the road to recovery since then. He should be ready to start in Week 1 of the regular season. Julian Edelman, N'Keal Harry and Sanu will be the top three receivers for the Patriots in 2020.

Patriots | Mohamed Sanu ahead of schedule    Wed Jun 24, 12:53 PM

New England Patriots WR Mohamed Sanu (ankle) is ahead of schedule in his recovery from ankle surgery. He currently weighs 202 pounds, which is less than his official listing by the team.

Footballguys view: Sanu's ankle surgery was in March, and his walking boot came off in mid-May, so it sounds like he's still making progress. That ankle injury was a big part of the reason Sanu struggled the second half of 2019, and he didn't look the same on the field. We'll see if he can be 100 percent healthy by the start of the regular season and see what kind of chemistry he can build with Jarrett Stidham (or Brian Hoyer) at quarterback.

Patriots | Mohamed Sanu's hands betrayed him after trade    Mon Jun 1, 09:33 PM

New England Patriots WR Mohamed Sanu caught 89.2 percent of his 37 catchable targets as a member of the Atlanta Falcons in 2019, but that figure dropped to 72.2 percent on his 36 catchable targets following his midseason trade to the Patriots.

Footballguys view: Sanu didn't mesh well with the Patriots. We'll see how he does with Jarrett Stidham or Brian Hoyer at quarterback in 2020. Fantasy GMs have other and better options out there. Sanu is mostly an end-of-the-bench player in fantasy leagues. In most leagues, Sanu is not getting drafted and that makes him more of a waiver wire player entering this season.

Patriots | Mohamed Sanu starts rehabbing    Tue May 12, 11:05 PM

New England Patriots WR Mohamed Sanu (ankle) reportedly shed the cast/boot from his surgically repaired ankle recently and has started rehab, according to the NFL network's Michael Giardi.

Footballguys view: Sanu is a veteran and doesn't need a ton of time to get back up to speed. The virtual offseason means he doesn't have to miss physical practice. So long as he shows up in training camp ready to go (mostly), Sanu should be starting in Week 1 of the regular season. Julian Edelman, N'Keal Harry and Sanu will be the top three receivers for the Patriots in 2020.

Patriots | Pats looking for young WRs to step up    Wed Apr 29, 01:31 AM

New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick expects his group of wide receivers to be 'very competitive' in 2020. 'I'm sure all our young players will improve in Year 2. Got a first-round pick on N'Keal [Harry] last year. Second-round pick on Mohamed [Sanu] -- that was really off this draft. Obviously have Julian [Edelman] and a number of other young players,' Belichick said. Julian Edelman, N'Keal Harry and Mohamed Sanu sit atop the team's depth chart entering the summer. The team also added WR Damiere Byrd during the offseason and return 2019 undrafted free agents Jakobi Meyers and Gunner Olszewski in addition to practice-squad receivers Devin Ross and Quincy Adeboyejo. Veteran WR Marqise Lee (Jaguars) also agreed to a one-year deal recently.

Footballguys view: The Patriots have names on the roster, and they've certainly invested premium picks to the position. It's now time for guys like Harry (and others) to elevate their games. We'll have a better idea about the pecking order for the Patriots in training camp.

Patriots | Mohamed Sanu has surgery    Wed Mar 4, 10:42 AM

New England Patriots WR Mohamed Sanu (ankle) had successful ankle surgery Tuesday, March 3.

Footballguys view: Sanu struggled to make a difference with the Patriots. The recovery time for this surgery is likely to keep him out of action in OTAs and minicamp. We should see him back in action during training camp.

Patriots | Mohamed Sanu to have surgery    Fri Feb 28, 01:55 PM

New England Patriots WR Mohamed Sanu (ankle) will need offseason surgery on his high-ankle sprain that he incurred in the 2019 season, per a source Friday, Feb. 28.

Footballguys view: Sanu wasn't the same at the end of the year so the Patriots could get a lot more out of him next season, but they still vastly overpaid for him when they sent a second-round pick to Atlanta. He'll be 31 this year and could be on the decline if his ankle isn't the same.
