NFL | Ace Sanders suspended 10 games    Mon Aug 3, 06:53 PM

Free-agent WR Ace Sanders (Jaguars) was suspended 10 games by the NFL Monday, Aug. 3, for a second violation of the league's drug policy.

Footballguys view: A non-story here. Sanders is unlikely to get another chance in the league.

Ravens | Ace Sanders not expected to be option    Mon Jul 20, 01:46 PM

Free-agent WR Ace Sanders (Jaguars) is not expected to be an option for the Baltimore Ravens entering training camp.

Footballguys view: Sanders was cut by the Jaguars....let that sink in. A team in need of playmakers at wide receiver and returner decided to let him go. That's not a good sign for his future in the NFL. Some team may bring him on board as a camp body in 2015.

Jaguars | Ace Sanders released    Fri Jul 17, 04:12 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Ace Sanders was released Friday, July 17.

Footballguys view: Not a big loss here for the Jaguars. A small receiver, Sanders was supposed to be able to contribute as a return man in the pros. He didn't impress in that facet of his game, and the Jaguars decide to move on.

Jaguars | Ace Sanders on roster bubble?    Wed Jun 24, 10:46 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Ace Sanders is a question mark for a spot on the 53-man roster. His spot is likely dependent on his winning the punt return job.

Footballguys view: Sanders hasn't shown all that much during his time in the NFL, so this isn't a shock. However, ESPN.com camp reports indicate that Sanders has been the talk of the Jaguars OTAs. He's reportedly catching everything thrown his way and looks dangerous in the open field. Even if Sanders is the WR3 in Jacksonville, he's a non-factor for most fantasy owners.

Jaguars | Marqise Lee to be more involved    Thu Nov 13, 05:28 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Marqise Lee is expected to be more involved in the passing offense moving forward now that WR Allen Robinson (foot) is out for the rest of the year. Lee has just 13 catches for 141 yards and no touchdowns in 10 games in his rookie season.

Footballguys view: We're waiting for more from Lee....it's there, but he has yet to flash his full potential as a pro. Lee has been mentioned as a possible replacement for WR Ace Sanders as the punt returner, but the injury to Robinson likely means Sanders will retain that job.

Jaguars | Ace Sanders activated    Sat Oct 4, 11:56 AM

The Jacksonville Jaguars activated WR Ace Sanders from the Reserve/Suspended list Saturday, Oct. 4. The team also waived TE Mickey Shuler.

Footballguys view: Sanders joins a wide receiver corps in need of some help but where he fits in is difficult to say. He shouldn't have much impact on this week's game against Pittsburgh, and at most is a bench-candidate for deep roster leagues.

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Ace Sanders could see playing time in the team's fourth preseason game Aug. 28, against the Atlanta Falcons, according to head coach Gus Bradley.

Footballguys view: Sanders is suspended for the first four games of the season and left the team temporarily to get his affairs in order after running afoul of the NFL substance abuse policy, but he is back with the Jaguars now.

Jaguars | Ace Sanders update    Tue Jul 22, 07:44 PM

Updating a previous report, Jacksonville Jaguars WR Ace Sanders is facing a four-game suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy.

Footballguys view: Let's hope that Sanders gets the help he needs. Sanders will seek counseling and expects to be away from the team for the entirety of training camp.

Jaguars | Ace Sanders suspended, will miss camp    Tue Jul 22, 06:52 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Ace Sanders (undisclosed) is facing a four-game suspension. He will miss training camp due to personal issues.

Footballguys view: Now we know why Sanders was put on the NFI list. Speculation indicates that Sanders is seeking help for substance-abuse problems. We'll see what kind of role he has when he comes back from the suspension. Rookie Allen Robinson will be the team's third-string receiver behind Cecil Shorts and Marqise Lee.

Jaguars | Place two on NFI lists    Tue Jul 22, 05:56 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Ace Sanders was placed on the non-football illness list. CB Aaron Colvin was placed on the non-football injury list.

Footballguys view: Sanders could win the team's WR3 slot job in training camp when healthy. Cecil Shorts and Marqise Lee are the top targets in the offense. Sanders will compete with rookie Allen Robinson to be the 3rd wide receiver on the depth chart.

Jaguars | Two WRs in mix for punt returner job    Wed Jul 9, 02:25 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WRs Ace Sanders and Tandon Doss will be candidates for the punt return job this upcoming season.

Footballguys view: Sanders was in line for a bigger role in the passing game this year, but the drafting of Marqise Lee and Allen Robinson should keep him in a limited role for the time being. If Cecil Shorts and Lee continue to struggle with injuries, he could be a factor in very deep PPR leagues in time.

Jaguars | Ace Sanders practices    Thu Jun 12, 02:21 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Ace Sanders (hamstring) participated in practice Thursday, June 12.

Footballguys view: Sanders is currently slated across from Cecil Shorts at Ourlads.com but the Florida Times-Union had previously speculated he could be on the roster bubble. Certainly if Marqise Lee and Allen Robinson catch onto the scheme and produce quickly, he will see a reduction in role. Sanders is a depth guy, no more and only worthy of the end of your bench.

Jaguars | Ace Sanders could return next week    Tue Jun 10, 01:28 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Ace Sanders (undisclosed) could return for mandatory minicamp next week.

Jaguars | Ace Sanders may be on bubble    Sun Jun 8, 04:49 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Ace Sanders could be on the bubble as far as making the team.

Footballguys view: We'd be a bit surprised if Sanders didn't make the team. The second-year wide receiver is competing to start opposite Cecil Shorts this season. Sanders is quick, fast and dangerous after the catch. He can also contribute on special teams as a return man. If Marqise Lee and Allen Robinson aren't ready at the start of the season, Sanders could be more involved in the offense than some think.

Jaguars | Seven could contend for final two WR slots    Tue May 27, 02:28 AM

The Jacksonville Jaguars have four wide receivers that are locks to make the roster.   Jaguars | Marqise Lee to start    Fri May 9, 08:17 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Marqise Lee will be the starting flanker (Z) this upcoming season. WR Cecil Shorts will be the split end (X) while WR Ace Sanders will be the slot receiver.

Footballguys view: Lee will have to start, as he is instantly the second best (at least) receiver on the roster. Keep expectations low for him (especially considering his current quarterback) but he could produce some WR3 numbers this year.

Jaguars | High hopes for Ace Sanders    Thu Feb 6, 09:17 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars general manager Dave Caldwell said Thursday, Feb. 6, that he is hopeful WR Ace Sanders becomes a 'Darren Sproles-type.'

Footballguys view: Interesting that Caldwell would mention Sproles. Ace Sanders is fast and quick like Sproles, but he lacks the lower-body strength of the Saints back. We'll see if Jacksonville can be more creative with Sanders in his second season.

Jaguars | Ace Sanders probable    Fri Dec 27, 03:01 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Ace Sanders (finger) practiced in full Friday, Dec. 27, and is probable for Week 17.

Footballguys view: We'd like to see more from Sanders this week. He's an intriguing prospect to keep an eye on in dynasty leagues. His speed is legit, and he can make plays in the open field that break ankles.

Jaguars | Ace Sanders takes part in practice    Thu Dec 26, 06:08 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Ace Sanders (finger) fully participated in practice Thursday, Dec. 26.

Jaguars | Ace Sanders could get start     Thu Nov 21, 09:37 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Ace Sanders probably will start at wide receiver Week 12 if WR Mike Brown (shoulder) is not able to play.

Jaguars | Ace Sanders to return punts    Thu Oct 24, 10:48 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Ace Sanders (concussion) will return punts in the team's Week 8 game, according to head coach Gus Bradley.

Footballguys view: Sanders was effective on occasion with Chad Henne at the helm, so he has some value in this offense since the team plays from behind so often. However Mike Brown has done well when Sanders was out and seems to have overtaken him. Sanders is an OK flex option, especially in leagues which give you return yards, but there are probably better options out there.

Jaguars | WRs returning to full health    Wed Oct 23, 01:46 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WRs Ace Sanders (concussion) and Stephen Burton (concussion) were both cleared from the league's concussion protocol and practiced Wednesday, Oct. 23. WR Mike Brown (back) is also fully recovered from the fractured vertebrae in his back. He had five catches for 120 yards in Week 7 against the San Diego Chargers.

Footballguys view: There's some real fantasy value in the Jaguars' passing game...at least while Chad Henne is still the quarterback. Blackmon and Shorts are WR2s with upside every week, while Brown is turning into a nice "what the heck" flex option.

Jaguars | Cecil Shorts likely game-time decision    Thu Oct 17, 05:07 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Cecil Shorts (shoulder) will likely be a game-time decision against the San Diego Chargers in Week 7. Also, WR Ace Sanders (concussion) hasn't practiced all week and is unlikely to play. The swelling in Shorts' shoulder has subsided, but he's still dealing with some pain. 'I ran around today in walk-through and felt pretty good,' Shorts said. 'It's going to hurt. So we'll see how it goes. No decision yet but I'm excited about my chances.' Shorts was limited in practice Thursday, Oct. 17, and head coach Gus Bradley said he won't practice Friday, Oct. 18.

Footballguys view: If he plays--and that's a huge if--we won't know until Sunday and on top of it he'll likely be hampered by pain anyway. Find another solution.

Jaguars | Chad Henne not guaranteed start    Mon Sep 16, 04:06 PM

Henne went 25-for-38 for 241 yards and a touchdown in Week 2 against the Oakland Raiders. Henne was sacked five times.   Jaguars | Ace Sanders unlikely to return punts until Week 1    Thu Aug 22, 02:25 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Ace Sanders likely will not return any more punts during the preseason because the coaches know what he can do in that role and want to save him for the regular season.

Footballguys view: Sanders has done enough for the coaches to shut him down as a returner until the games count. He's a big play return man with incredible speed and quickness. Sanders is also working on being a more developed wide receiver. The rookie is competing for the slot position behind starters Cecil Shorts and Justin Blackmon.

Jaguars | Sign Ace Sanders     Thu Jul 11, 02:09 PM

The Jacksonville Jaguars signed WR Ace Sanders to a four-year contract Thursday, July 11. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Sanders has excellent short area explosion which helps his run after the catch ability and effectiveness as a return man. He tracks the ball well and has the body control to adjust to poorly thrown passes. Sanders wasn't asked to run the full route tree in college at South Carolina and needs to develop that skill to play up to his potential as a pro. He's not the biggest player (5'7" 175 lbs) and some question whether or not he can take the NFL beating and stay in the lineup.

Jaguars | Ace Sanders expected to work in slot    Mon Jul 8, 03:44 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Ace Sanders worked with the first-team offense at the slot position during offseason workouts and is expected to receive most of his playing time at that position early in the season.

Footballguys view: Sanders is the perfect slot receiver because of his speed, quickness, and run after the catch ability. He also should be used in the committee that will replace WR Justin Blackmon for the first four games of the season.

Jaguars | Expected to use committee at WR while Justin Blackmon out    Sat Jun 15, 01:07 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars general manager Dave Caldwell said he expects the team to use a receiver-by-committee approach while WR Justin Blackmon serves his four-game suspension. Caldwell mentioned WRs Ace Sanders, Mike X. Brown and Mohamed Massaquoi as possible members of the committee.

Footballguys view: What this means is more targets for Cecil Shorts. None of the receivers in this committee are that interesting for fantasy owners. Brown is the most interesting because of his work ethic and the Wes Welker comparisons he was drawing last year in camp. Massaquoi has the most experience here and may emerge as the leader during Blackmon's four week suspension.

Jaguars | Working on ways to get ball to two rookies    Mon Jun 3, 02:41 PM

The Jacksonville Jaguars have been working on some offensive plays specifically designed to get the ball to RB Denard Robinson and WR Ace Sanders.

Footballguys view: An important note for fantasy owners here. Robinson is going to work as a RB even though he played QB in college at Michigan. He's an explosive playmaker who is dangerous in space. Sanders is a big play receiver who is elusive in the open field. He can help out as a return man as well.
