Vikings | Jackson was No. 2 QB Week 1 Thu Sep 17, 06:15 PM
Minnesota Vikings QB Tarvaris Jackson was listed as the No. 2 quarterback for the team's Week 1 game. It is not known if he will remain in that role or if QB Sage Rosenfels will be the backup on occasion.
| Our view: Brad Childress commented last week that this situation could change back and forth during the season. Not only will their performance in practice dictate who is the backup, but Childress will also factor in the matchup. |

Vikings | Jackson to back up Favre Sat Sep 12, 03:07 PM
The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports Tarvaris Jackson is expected to backup starting quarterback Brett Favre in the season opener in Cleveland, according to a person with knowledge of the situation.
| Our view: Sage Rosenfels was the big free agent addition, but apparently he couldn't outperform Jackson in practice this week. Head coach Brad Childress stated this backup situation could change from week to week. It should only matter if (when?) Brett Favre sits out with an injury. |

Vikings | Childress to name backup quarterback on Sunday Mon Sep 7, 07:55 PM
Judd Zulgad, from the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, reports Brad Childress said he will declare his second and third QBs on Sunday.
| Our view: Sage Rosenfels has the big free agent contract, and his skill set is similar to that of starter Brett Favre, so our money's on Captain Turnover to win the #2 job. Tarvaris Jackson looked good in the preseason, but seems to be the odd man out ever since Favre-apalooza came to town. |

Vikings | Favre does not appear to have much support in locker room Wed Aug 26, 05:39 PM
Adam Schefter, of ESPN, reports Minnesota Vikings QB Brett Favre appears to have little support from teammates at this point, according to a league source. Favre has created a division within the locker room. Some players believe QB Tarvaris Jackson gives the team the best chance to win while others believe QB Sage Rosenfels gives them the best chance to win, according to sources.
| Our view: There's nothing that will de-rail a season faster than a divided lockerroom. Some feel that Brad Childress put honesty and integrity on the back burner in order to sign the old gunslinger Brett Favre. If the Vikings start the season out hot, we won't hear much about this. However, if Favre starts playing like he did at the end of last year, we could hear the rumblings from the lockerroom get louder than ever. |

Vikings | To showcase a quarterback for trade? Tue Aug 25, 01:25 PM
Judd Zulgad, of the Minneapolis Star Tribune, reports the Minnesota Vikings could attempt to showcase QBs Tarvaris Jackson or Sage Rosenfels in the team's next preseason game. The Vikings could use Jackson's strong performance in the team's last preseason game as a bargaining chip in an attempt to receive compensation for him. Whether the team decides to trade a quarterback could depend on how they feel QB John David Booty is progressing.
| Our view: Even with Jackson's strong performance, the most the Vikings would receive for him is likely a fourth-round pick. The team just traded for Sage Rosenfels and he plays a lot like Brett Favre (gunslinger, takes chances), so it would make sense if they kept him around as the primary backup. Teams that could be interested in Jackson include the Rams, and the Jaguars. |

The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports that on the Vikings initial depth chart under quarterback it says Tarvaris Jackson or Sage Rosenfels.
| Our view: C'mon Brad Childress, take a stand! If the season started today Rosenfels would most likely be the starter because of Jackson's training camp injury. We just wish the head coach would show a little more clarity. At least it didn't list Brett Favre as the starter. |

Vikings | Rosenfels hasn't absorbed the offense Tue Aug 11, 08:36 PM
John Czarnecki, from Fox Sports, writes the whole pursuit (of Brett Favre) has damaged Childress in the locker room, but the coach also knows that Sage Rosenfels hasn't absorbed his offense while Tarvaris Jackson remains injury-prone.
| Our view: Sage Rosenfels is a gunslinger that doesn't always follow the script. He will make some plays with his arm, but there will also be several throws that are forced into coverage and intercepted. That's why we've given him the nickname Captain Turnover. Fantasy owners who play in leagues that deduct points for interceptions had better take note of Rosenfels reckless nature. |

Vikings | Rosenfels a sure bet to start? Mon Aug 3, 08:29 PM
Peter King, from SI.com, thinks Sage Rosenfels was the Minnesota starter before Tarvaris Jackson went down with a strained knee at practice the other day, and he's still going to be the starter now, obviously. And King wouldn't be surprised if John David Booty beat out Jackson for the backup job.
| Our view: If J.D. Booty can beat out Jackson for the backup job to Rosenfels, could the team be inclined to cut Jackson? The team traded for Rosenfels in the offseason, and the veteran has plenty of experience running an offense. Rosenfels is a fierce competitor that likes to take chances, and that's why we've given him the nickname "Captain Turnover." He'll be a fantasy backup in most leagues, but avoid him - especially if your league awards negative points for turnovers. |

| Our view: He limped into the trainers tent. We're waiting for more details, but this could obviously go a big way towards deciding the Vikings QB battle. We still haven't heard much about John David Booty, who was rumored to be ahead of Rosenfels in OTAs. |

Vikings | Slight edge to Jackson in quarterback race Sat Aug 1, 10:22 AM
Kevin Seifert, of ESPN.com, reports Minnesota Vikings QB Tarvaris Jackson appears to have entered training camp a bit ahead of QB Sage Rosenfels in the team's quarterback competition. Rosenfels appears to be still catching up to the team's scheme since being acquired in an offseason trade.
| Our view: Jackson has superior arm strength and athleticism to Rosenfels, so he could maintain that lead going into the preseason game, but those games are where this battle will be decided. Everyone has been penciling Rosenfels in (at least until that QB strung the Vikings along for a bit), but by all accounts Jackson will have every chance to win this job. |

Vikings | Quarterback competition heating up Mon Jun 1, 02:08 PM
Chip Scoggins, of the Star Tribune, reports the competition between Minnesota Vikings QB Tarvaris Jackson and QB Sage Rosenfels for the team's starting quarterback job heated up during the team's recent minicamp as both quarterbacks had bright moments.
| Our view: Both Jackson and Rosenfels seemed to get equal reps with the first team. Each one of these QBs brings something different to the table. Jackson is athletic, and can make good things happen with his feet when the play breaks down. Rosenfels likes to challenge the edges of the defense, is not afraid to throw into coverage, and is a tough competitor. If the Vikings sign Brett Favre then Jackson and Rosenfels will be battling for the backup job. |

Vikings | Jackson, Rosenfels split snaps Friday Fri May 29, 06:21 PM
Chip Scoggins, of the Minneapolis Star Tribune, reports Minnesota Vikings QB Tarvaris Jackson and QB Sage Rosenfels split reps at quarterback during practice Friday, May 29.
| Our view: Jackson and Rosenfels will battle for the starting job all the way through training camp - if Brett Favre doesn't sign with the Vikings. Favre will set atop the depth chart if he again comes out of retirement, this time for the Vikings. Jackson has experience running this offense, but the Vikings aren't sold on him as their starter and that's why they signed Sage Rosenfels who played fearlessly (and sometimes carelessly) for the Houston Texans in 2008. |

'I don't think they're going to show me any favoritism just because I ended the year as a starter. I just think it's 50-50 and we're going to fight for it as hard as we can,' Jackson said.

However, Rosenfels did not have much to say regarding the matter. 'It doesn't make any sense to comment on something that hasn't happened,' Rosenfels told the Des Moines Register.
