NFL | Sage Rosenfels retires    Mon Jul 15, 08:28 AM

Free-agent QB Sage Rosenfels (Vikings) has retired.

Vikings | Sage Rosenfels, Joe Webb battling for No. 2 QB job    Tue Jun 26, 11:08 PM

Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier indicated on the final day of minicamp that the starting job belongs to QB Christian Ponder, leaving QBs Sage Rosenfels and Joe Webb to fight for the primary backup spot.

Footballguys view: Rosenfels is the wily veteran, but we expect Webb to win this job. Webb is incredibly athletic, has a strong arm, and does a good job of throwing on the run. His scrambling ability makes him a better option when the play breaks down. Originally drafted to play WR, Webb will work at QB during camp to improve his raw skill set.

Vikings | Brad Childress defends trading Sage Rosenfels    Mon Sep 6, 10:35 AM

Minnesota Vikings QB Brad Childress defended his decision to trade QB Sage Rosenfels to the New York Giants and keep QB Tarvaris Jackson as the backup, according to Judd Zulgad, of the Minneapolis Star Tribune. Childress became testy when asked how comfortable he would be if QB Joe Webb had to be inserted into a game if something happened to both QB Brett Favre and Jackson. 'I'm not going to deal in hypotheticals,' Childress said. 'I'm done with the backup quarterback. I'm done with it. You guys, if that's all you've got to write, good Lord. We're talking about the two highest-scoring offenses (the Vikings and New Orleans Saints) in the league last year playing each other. Let's talk about the game...'

Footballguys view: Of course Childress is going to defend his decision to move Rosenfels in a last minute trade. Some believe that Childress traded Rosenfels because he played better than Tarvaris Jackson in the preseason.

Vikings | Sage Rosenfels remains focused on team    Mon Aug 23, 12:05 AM

Minnesota Vikings QB Sage Rosenfels said he doesn't think about other teams, even though he will likely get little to no playing time now that QB Brett Favre has returned, reports WCCO.com's Eric Nelson. Rosenfels said, "I think about the Minnesota Vikings and how I can help the Vikings because that's the best team to play for is the team that you're on and this is one of the best teams in the NFL so I don't really think about any other things other than that." Rosenfels added, "But there's a business side to this game and there's an emotional side to this game and I'm going to try to keep both sides out of it as far as the way I'm playing. I thought I and the offense played well the other night. There's always speculation going on and you can't let it affect. All you can let it do is, if anything, help motivate you."

Vikings | Sage Rosenfels puts up big numbers    Sun Aug 15, 02:19 AM

Minnesota Vikings backup QB Sage Rosenfels had a nice showing Saturday, Aug. 14, against the St. Louis Rams. He hit 23-of-34 passes for 310 yards and three touchdowns, reports The Associated Press.

Footballguys view: If Brett Favre doesn't retire, we can think of at least a few teams that should be lining up to give a fourth or fifth round pick for Rosenfels to insure that their season isn't lost if their starting QB goes down.

Vikings | Sage Rosenfels expected to see considerable playing time     Fri Aug 13, 10:28 PM

Vikings | Sage Rosenfels will see time with starters    Mon Jul 26, 02:29 PM

Minnesota Vikings head coach Brad Childress said QB Sage Rosenfels will receive reps with the first-team offense during training camp until QB Brett Favre makes a decision, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune's Chip Scoggins.

Footballguys view: Rosenfels may be on the trading block in training camp (if Favre comes back) because of the emergence of rookie QB/WR Joe Webb.

Vikings | Sage Rosenfels not worrying about roster spot    Fri Jul 16, 03:21 PM

Minnesota Vikings QB Sage Rosenfels said he is not worrying about fighting for a roster spot during training camp because he can only control what he does, according to Andrew Logue, of the Des Moines Register. 'I'll just let the dominos fall wherever they may fall,' Rosenfels said. 'I try not to get too up or too down. I try to stay very level, be consistent, work and just see what happens.'

Footballguys view: Rosenfels is still one of the better QBs not starting in the NFL, so he may get a shot elsewhere as a caretaker QB while a rookie is being broken in.

Vikings | Sage Rosenfels could be traded soon    Mon Jun 28, 10:06 AM

The Minnesota Vikings will likely trade QB Sage Rosenfels soon, according to Charley Walters, of the St. Paul Pioneer Press, particularly with QBs Tarvaris Jackson and Joe Webb behind QB Brett Favre on the depth chart.

Footballguys view: We can't imagine the trade value for the journeyman quarterback being that high, but the Vikes may want to get something out him. Many expected Joe Webb to convert to wide receiver now that he's in the pros, but apparently the Vikings like what they've seen from him as a developmental quarterback. Rosenfels getting released or traded would be a strong indication that Brett Favre was coming back for the 2010 season.

Vikings | Sage Rosenfels could be dealt    Mon Jun 14, 10:30 AM

The Minnesota Vikings could look to move QB Sage Rosenfels for a late-round draft pick before training camp opens, especially if they become 100 percent convinced QB Brett Favre is going to return and his surgically repaired left ankle is good to go, according to Judd Zulgad, of the Minneapolis Star Tribune. QB Joe Webb could be the No. 3 quarterback if Rosenfels is dealt.

Footballguys view: If Favre returns, and Joe Webb impresses in camp then we could see Rosenfels sent on his way. Webb was drafted to be a wide receiver after playing quarterback at UAB. The Vikings have decided to give him a look at quarterback just to see what the rookie can do. Webb is a great athlete, and is hard to bring down when he runs the football. As a passer he makes his receivers work too hard to get the football, but the team could work with him on his accuracy.

Vikings | Sage Rosenfels sees little action during minicamp    Mon Jun 14, 10:12 AM

Minnesota Vikings QB Sage Rosenfels received only six snaps with the third-team offense during the team's recent minicamp, according to Judd Zulgad, of the Minneapolis Star Tribune. 'Just rotating him around a little bit. We try to expose all those guys to all situations and it wouldn't be uncommon for you to see here or in training camp where you're trying to expose two quarterbacks and shutting (another) guy down for a day,' head coach Brad Childress said. 'I really wouldn't make anything of that other than we were trying to expose those other three quarterbacks to some of that red area stuff and some of that blitz stuff yesterday.'

Footballguys view: The veteran journeyman doesn't need that many reps, and the Vikings just wanted to see what rookie QB/WR Joe Webb could do at quarterback.
