49ers | Carlos Rogers officially released    Tue Mar 11, 04:41 PM

The San Francisco 49ers have officially released CB Carlos Rogers, making him an unrestricted free agent.

Footballguys view: Rogers should garner interest on the open market as a slot cornerback. He's not the same player he used to be, and Rogers may have to accept a one-year contract.

49ers | Carlos Rogers to be cut    Mon Mar 10, 04:32 PM

The San Francisco 49ers will release CB Carlos Rogers.

Footballguys view: This move creates $5.1 million in cap space for the 49ers. He's not the same player he used to be, but there should be a market for his services as a sub-package player. Rogers has lost a step, but could still help as a nickel corner.

49ers | Carlos Rogers' role uncertain    Thu Jan 16, 08:16 PM

San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Vic Fangio would not say if CB Carlos Rogers (hamstring) will be the team's nickel back in the NFC Championship game if he is able to play.

Footballguys view: Rogers didn't exactly have a tremendous 2013 and was rated by Pro Football Focus as the worst 49ers defensive back aside from Nnamdi Asomugha, who was cut. Too many teams torched Rogers, so we may see a new face at corner come the start of next season.

Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio said earlier this week that Rogers would need to practice this week in order to play against the Carolina Panthers, so it appears unlikely that Rogers will play.
