Jaguars | Mychal Rivera not ready to return    Sun Aug 6, 06:12 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Mychal Rivera (undisclosed) did not participate in practice Sunday, Aug. 6.

Footballguys view: As Rivera was battling Mercedes Lewis and Ben Koyack for targets and snaps, this continues to be a big setback. We like his upside, but if he's not on the field, all the upside in the world isn't worth anything.

Jaguars | Mychal Rivera missing practice    Fri Aug 4, 08:40 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Mychal Rivera (undisclosed) missed his fourth straight practice Friday, Aug. 4, because of an undisclosed injury.

Footballguys view: Rivera is fighting for snaps with Mercedes Lewis and Ben Koyack, so this is bad. He never was more than a part-time target in Oakland and if he can't stay on the field, things won't be different in Jacksonville.

Jaguars | Mychal Rivera earning reps    Sun Jun 11, 11:04 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Mychal Rivera has been seeing starter-level snaps during OTAs, and head coach Doug Marrone praised Rivera for his dependability. '[Rivera] is a player that makes the plays he should make,' Marrone said.

Footballguys view: With Julius Thomas traded to the Dolphins, the Jaguars need to find a new starting tight end. Marcedes Lewis has the veteran experience advantage, but he's likely to lose some targets to Rivera. After a 58-catch, 534 yard season in 2014 Rivera's stats have steadily declined. We don't see him bouncing back this year as he'll continue to be stuck in a timeshare.

Jaguars | Jacksonville adds Mychal Rivera    Wed Mar 22, 05:08 PM

Free-agent TE Mychal Rivera (Raiders) signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars Wednesday, March 22. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: After trading away Julius Thomas (Dolphins), the Jaguars needed to find help. Rivera is their top pass-catching TE at this point, but you'll have better fantasy options out there.

Jets | New York hosts Mychal Rivera    Mon Mar 20, 05:45 PM

Free-agent TE Mychal Rivera (Raiders) paid a visit to the New York Jets Monday, March 20.

Footballguys view: Rivera didn't do much during his time with the Raiders, but a fresh start could do him some good. In 2014, Rivera was the 17th-best fantasy TE (in standard leagues) with 58 catches, 534 yards and four touchdowns. The Jets could use some help at the position, and Rivera should be a cheap option.

Raiders | Mychal Rivera available via trade?    Thu Mar 31, 01:00 PM

Oakland Raiders TE Mychal Rivera is expected to be available in a trade as the NFL Draft approaches.

Footballguys view: We think Clive Walford will get more work so Rivera would become second fiddle at that point and the Raiders would do well to look for value from him if they don't need him. Rivera has some skill and could be a solid TE2 for some team.

Oakland Raiders TE Mychal Rivera served as the starting tight end Friday, Aug. 14, ahead of Clive Walford and Lee Smith.

Footballguys view: Rivera will start the season as the best fantasy option at tight end for the Raiders, but he might not finish with that status. He's only a streaming option or very deep league backup even though he'll have some PPR potential for as long as he starts.

Oakland Raiders TE David Ausberry was the leading tight end in the offseason workouts, according to ESPN.com's Paul Gutierrez.

Raiders | David Ausberry could be a receiving threat    Mon Jun 23, 04:49 PM

Oakland Raiders TE David Ausberry could be a receiving threat this upcoming season, according to head coach Dennis Allen. Ausberry said he feels more comfortable in the offense, after missing the entire 2013 season with a shoulder injury.

Footballguys view: This is a situation for dynasty owners to watch. Ausberry could be a security blanket for QB Matt Schaub this season. However, we're not going after him in re-draft leagues. In dynasty leagues, Ausberry is a player worth monitoring his progress.

Raiders | David Ausberry, Mychal Rivera working with first team    Fri Jun 20, 03:49 PM

Oakland Raiders TEs David Ausberry and Mychal Rivera have been working with the first-team offense during minicamp and both players have nice pass-catching abilities. However, neither player is much of a blocker, and the team is still looking for a blocking tight end to stand out on the roster.

Footballguys view: Rivera is the player to watch here. He flashed at times as a rookie last year, and he's got good upside as a move tight end because he's athletic down the seam. Dynasty owners should be monitoring his progress with the Raiders.

Raiders | Mychal Rivera expected to be part of offense    Sun Apr 27, 11:21 PM

The Oakland Raiders are counting on TE Mychal Rivera to be an active part of the passing game this upcoming season. Rivera will need to improve his blocking if he wants to become an every-down player.

Footballguys view: The Raiders need to use the tight end more this year. After losing Brandon Myers in free agency in 2013, they struggled to find production from the position last year. Rivera flashed some potential last season during his rookie year, and he's an intriguing move tight end who can get open in the seam.

Raiders | Mychal Rivera to be cornerstone?    Wed Mar 26, 11:27 PM

Oakland Raiders head coach Dennis Allen said Wednesday, March 26, that TE Mychal Rivera is a potential foundation piece of the offense.

Footballguys view: Rivera is a good route-runner and hands catcher among tight ends, and he could be a solid bye/injury/emergency fill-in, with low-end PPR starter upside in a Raiders pass offense that should be improved with the addition of Matt Schaub and James Jones.

Oakland Raiders TE David Ausberry is expected to receive the first chance to win the starting tight end job during training camp. TEs Nick Kasa and Mychal Rivera are expected to receive long looks during preseason games. TE Richard Gordon is also expected to be a candidate for the job.

Footballguys view: Ausberry is athletic, determined, and swift in the open field. He does have the size and athleticism to be a weapon if used appropriately, but the lack of proven production tempers expectations.

Raiders | Six draft picks signed    Thu Jun 6, 08:40 PM

The Oakland Raiders have signed sixth-round draft choices TE Nick Kasa, RB Latavius Murray, TE Mychal Rivera and DT Stacy McGee as well as seventh-round draft choice WR Brice Butler and DE David Bass. Terms of the contracts were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Murray is the best player to watch here. He is a big runner with a swift style. Murray is a load to bring down when he builds a head of steam and is competing with veteran Rashad Jennings to be the primary backup behind Darren McFadden. Kasa is a converted DE who has been playing TE for less than two years. He's got the size and athleticism but needs to show more natural receiving ability. Kasa is a project worth keeping an eye on in super deep dynasty leagues.

Raiders | Wide open competition at TE    Mon Jun 3, 05:38 PM

Oakland Raiders head coach Dennis Allen said the competition for the starting tight end job is wide open because TEs David Ausberry, Richard Gordon and Mychal Rivera have done well during organized team activities. Allen said the team hopes TE Nick Kasa (hamstring) will be able to practice soon because they feel he can fill a role on offense.

Footballguys view: The team lost Brandon Myers (Giants) in free agency and will have to find his replacement in the starting lineup. Ausberry is physically gifted, aggressive, and can rip away contested passes away from defenders. Kasa is a raw prospect with decent upside. He's only been playing TE for about a year and a half after spending most of his time at Colorado as a Defensive End.
