Steelers | Stevan Ridley set for larger role    Sat Dec 15, 03:11 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Stevan Ridley is expected to see a larger role in Week 15 against the New England Patriots, his former team, with RB James Conner doubtful due to injury. Ridley has an ax to grind against the Patriots, and he is looking forward to the matchup. 'I was trashed after an injury. To be a starter for four years, to tear my ACL, and to never get a call back, that's a tough pill to swallow,' Ridley said.

Footballguys view: Narrative does belong in fantasy football analysis but don't get too carried away if you want Ridley in this week. We've got him as a RB5 or 'what the heck' flex against the Patriots in Week 15.

Steelers | Stevan Ridley ready if needed    Fri Sep 7, 11:51 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Stevan Ridley said he doesn't know what his exact role will be against the Cleveland Browns in Week 1, but he said he is ready to contribute on any down or on special downs if called upon.

Footballguys view: Ridley is a seasoned veteran who might just have a bit more left in the tank than most think. With James Conner set to start for the Steelers on Sunday, Ridley might get a few snaps here and there.

Steelers | Pittsburgh brings back Stevan Ridley    Tue Apr 3, 10:38 PM

The Pittsburgh Steelers re-signed free-agent RB Stevan Ridley to a one-year contract Tuesday, April 3. Financial terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed.

Footballguys view: James Conner is recovering from offseason knee surgery, so Ridley could get a lot of reps in OTAs while LeVeon Bell is away from the team due to his franchise tag and Conner is recovering.

Steelers | Week 17 game recap for Steelers    Sun Dec 31, 04:57 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Landry Jones completed 23-of-27 passes for 239 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Week 17 against the Cleveland Browns with QB Ben Roethlisberger resting. RB Stevan Ridley carried 17 times for 80 yards and a score with RB Le'Veon Bell sitting out, while WR Darrius Heyward-Bey scored on a 29-yard rush. WR JuJu Smith-Schuster shined with nine grabs, 143 yards and a score, and WR Martavis Bryant was good for six catches and 65 yards.

Footballguys view: Smith-Schuster was a force in this game, adding a kickoff return for a score. The Steelers continued a general trend of the team being very competitive in Week 17 even while starters are being rested for the playoffs.

Steelers | Stevan Ridley signed by Steelers    Tue Dec 19, 02:52 PM

Free-agent RB Stevan Ridley (Vikings) was signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers Tuesday, Dec. 19, in light of RB James Conner (knee) going to the Reserve/Injured list.

Footballguys view: Ridley was added for veteran depth. Le'Veon Bell is the starter with Fitzgerald Toussaint now as his primary backup. Ridley didn't look totally washed up during training camp and the preseaso with the Broncos, but he's certainly not the player he used to be.

Vikings | Michael Floyd activated    Mon Oct 9, 02:59 PM

Minnesota Vikings WR Michael Floyd, who was the first four games of the season due to suspension, was added to the roster Monday, Oct. 9, and is expected to play Monday, Oct. 9, versus the Chicago Bears.

Footballguys view: RB Stevan Ridley was released to make room for Floyd on the roster. There might not be much of a role for Floyd this week or moving forward as he's buried on the Vikings depth chart. Their passing game is all about WR Stefon Diggs, WR Adam Thielen and TE Kyle Rudolph. Floyd will compete with Laquon Treadwell for the no3 WR spot on the depth chart.

Vikings | Stevan Ridley joining Vikings    Thu Oct 5, 09:01 AM

Free-agent RB Stevan Ridley (Falcons) will sign with the Minnesota Vikings Thursday, Oct. 5.

Broncos | Stevan Ridley cut loose    Fri Sep 1, 10:58 PM

The Denver Broncos cut RB Stevan Ridley Friday, Sept. 1.

Broncos | Early action for Stevan Ridley    Fri Jul 28, 10:05 PM

Denver Broncos RB Stevan Ridley saw action with the second-team and third-team offenses Friday, July 28.

Footballguys view: Ridley had surprising burst for a player who hasn't been the same since a 2014 knee injury. The Broncos just needed depth after losing Devontae Booker (wrist) for camp, and we don't think Ridley makes the 53-man roster.

Broncos | Denver signing Stevan Ridley    Thu Jul 27, 05:03 PM

Free-agent RB Stevan Ridley (Falcons) is signing with the Denver Broncos Thursday, July 27, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Ridley was with the Falcons last year for four games and appeared in one, compiling seven yards on three carries. With the injury to Devontae Booker (wrist) the Broncos needed depth at the position. Ridley will compete with guys like Bernard Pierce and Juwan Thompson for a spot on the 53-man roster. Let's just say we don't expect much from the veteran.

Jets | Stevan Ridley works out for Jets    Thu May 11, 01:29 PM

Free-agent RB Stevan Ridley (Falcons) worked out for the New York Jets Thursday, May 11, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Ridley has limited upside at this point, and has barely seen any action since he was in New England back in 2014. This would be his second tour with the Jets (he was with the Jets for a bit in 2015) but we're not interested if he joins that backfield with Matt Forte and Bilal Powell.

Falcons | Stevan Ridley cut    Wed Nov 23, 02:02 PM

The Atlanta Falcons have declared DL Cliff Matthews, CB Desmond Trufant, TE Jacob Tamme, S Sharrod Neasman, RB Stevan Ridley, RB Tevin Coleman, OG Wes Schweitzer inactive for Week 10.

Footballguys view: Devonta Freeman will be the starter again this week. Even though the Philadelphia defense is tough, Freeman should be a good bet for at least 80-100 total yards and most goal line running back opportunities.

Falcons | Atlanta signs Stevan Ridley    Tue Oct 25, 04:44 PM

Free-agent RB Stevan Ridley (Colts) was signed by the Atlanta Falcons Tuesday, Oct. 25. LB A.J. Hawk was released in a corresponding move.

Footballguys view: Ridley gives the team veteran depth at the position. We're not counting on him to do much with the Falcons. Tevin Coleman (hamstring) is banged up, so Devonta Freeman should get all the work he can handle going forward.

Colts | Stevan Ridley released    Sat Sep 3, 12:43 PM

The Indianapolis Colts have released RB Stevan Ridley, according to a source.

Colts | Quiet debut for Stevan Ridley     Thu Sep 1, 11:08 PM

Indianapolis Colts RB Stevan Ridley made his team debut in the preseason finale against the Cincinnati Bengals Thursday, Sept. 1, finishing with nine carries for 11 yards.

Footballguys view: Given that he is just now getting burn, we don't have much in the way of expectations for him. This will be Andrew Luck's offense with some Frank Gore thrown in. Barring injury, Ridley is not a fantasy option.

Colts | Indianapolis signs Stevan Ridley    Sun Aug 28, 01:17 PM

Free-agent RB Stevan Ridley (Lions) signed with the Indianapolis Colts Sunday, Aug. 28. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Ridley has a decent chance to make the team despite his late addition because of the state of the running back depth chart in Indy. Robert Turbin is the backup by default, but Ridley was a better runner between the tackle before his knee injury, so if he can impress the Colts, he might be in line to benefit the most if Frank Gore goes down. Ridley lost his chance in Detroit after rookie seventh-rounder Dwayne Washington impressed with his size and speed.

Colts | Stevan Ridley visiting Colts    Fri Aug 26, 02:34 PM

Free-agent RB Stevan Ridley (Lions) visited the Indianapolis Colts Friday, August 26.

Lions | Stevan Ridley released    Thu Aug 25, 08:58 AM

Detroit Lions RB Stevan Ridley was released Thursday, Aug. 25.

Footballguys view: Zach Zenner's ascendancy got Ridley cut. He never has really recovered from his last injury but should find a home somewhere as a depth back as the season comes closer.

Lions | Stevan Ridley may be on bubble    Sat Aug 20, 10:07 AM

Detroit Lions RB Stevan Ridley may be on the roster bubble if he does not receive any work with the second-team offense during the team's third preseason game.

Footballguys view: Seventh-round rookie Dwayne Washington's size/speed combination seems to have put him ahead of Ridley, who hasn't been the same since tearing up his knee is 2014. Zach Zenner is still in line to be the "big back" mixed in with Theo Riddick and Ameer Abdullah.

Lions | Stevan Ridley did not receive much time    Sat Aug 13, 10:50 AM

Detroit Lions RB Stevan Ridley did not see playing time until the second half of the preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers Friday, Aug. 12, and finished the game with 14 yards on five carries.

Footballguys view: Ridley is competing with Zach Zenner for the power back job behind starter Ameer Abdullah. The veteran seems to be behind in that competition at this point, and he's certainly no lock for the 53-man roster.

Lions | Stevan Ridley the favorite for No. 3    Sun Jul 17, 03:01 PM

Detroit Lions RB Stevan Ridley seems to be the frontrunner for the No. 3 running back position behind RBs Ameer Abdullah and Theo Riddick, according to Tim Twentyman of detroitlions.com. Ridley would provide a change of pace from Abdullah and Riddick, but he'll still have to prove himself after missing most of the offseason with an undisclosed injury.

Footballguys view: Ridley has to be healthy in order to win the 'big' back job in Detroit. We like second-year pro Zach Zenner or rookie Dwayne Washington better. However, we understand that Ridley is going to get a chance to impress in camp. We'll see if he takes advantage of the opportunity.

Lions | Several candidates for backup RB role    Tue Jul 5, 07:43 AM

The Detroit Lions will have several candidates in mind to complement RB Ameer Abdullah on the field. In contention for the second running back role are RB Stevan Ridley, RB Zach Zenner, and RB George Winn.

Footballguys view: We like Zenner here. He's the best all-purpose back of this group and can we used effectively as a runner between the tackles or receiver out of the backfield. Zenner is certainly a player to keep on your waiver-wire speed dial. Abdullah is an electric back, but he may not has the durability necessary to be a lead RB in the NFL--even with Theo Riddick still being used as the primary receiving back.

Lions | Best yet to come for Stevan Ridley?    Thu Apr 7, 09:42 PM

Detroit Lions RB Stevan Ridley said he believes his best years are still ahead of him, and he said he expects to have a similar role to the one he had with the New England Patriots.

Footballguys view: The Lions need some help at running back, though Ameer Abdullah is absolutely legit and could be a workhorse back in 2016. Abdullah is at least an RB2, but if Ridley is healthy, he could cut into the second-year back's carries and have some value as a flex play in the vein of an RB3 or RB4.

Lions | Stevan Ridley's deal for one year    Fri Apr 1, 02:25 PM

Updating an earlier report, Detroit Lions RB Stevan Ridley signed a one-year deal.

Lions | Stevan Ridley headed to Lions    Fri Apr 1, 01:43 PM

Free-agent RB Stevan Ridley (Jets) announced Friday, April 1, that he's signing with the Detroit Lions.

Footballguys view: Ridley can be an effective banger if healthy. He gives the Lions something that guys like Ameer Abdullah and Theo Riddick don't have--power. From a fantasy perspective, we don't think Ridley will make that much of an impact in this RBBC.

Lions | Stevan Ridley visiting Lions    Tue Mar 29, 09:03 AM

Free-agent RB Stevan Ridley (Jets) will visit the Detroit Lions Tuesday, March 29.

Patriots | Stevan Ridley unlikely to rejoin Pats    Sat Feb 6, 02:54 PM

New York Jets impending free-agent RB Stevan Ridley is not expected to be pursued by the New England Patriots, his former team. The Patriots will likely look to add depth at running back this offseason, and Ridley is entering free agency, but New England is expected to look elsewhere.

Footballguys view: The RB market in free agency is going to be rough as there's a ton of talented backs who are likely to be available. Ridley's best days may be behind him, so we're not expecting the market to be white hot for his services.

Jets | New York has questions at running back    Mon Feb 1, 04:41 PM

New York Jets impending free-agent RBs Chris Ivory, Bilal Powell and Stevan Ridley will all be unrestricted free agents this offseason if they are not re-signed.

Jets | Stevan Ridley plays eight snaps    Fri Nov 13, 09:22 AM

New York Jets RB Stevan Ridley played eight snaps in Week 10 Thursday, Nov. 12.

Footballguys view: Look for that number to go up if Bilal Powell can't get on the field next week. Chris Ivory has been injury prone over the course of his career, so Ridley might have value in deep leagues as semi-handcuff or full handcuff if Powell can't get over the hump.

Jets | Stevan Ridley limited Tuesday    Tue Nov 10, 05:14 PM

New York Jets RB Stevan Ridley (knee) was limited in practice Tuesday, Nov. 10.

New York Jets RB Chris Ivory (hamstring) and RB Stevan Ridley (knee) were full participants in practice Thursday, Nov. 5. RB Bilal Powell (ankle) was limited.

Footballguys view: It's going to be tough sledding for this bunch against a decent Jacksonville defense. Ivory has a chance to still put up RB1 numbers, but we're not sure what role Ridley will have, if any. This weekend might see more Bilal Powell but either one is't worth a play.

Footballguys view: Ivory is an interesting back this week. The Jaguars are a better defense than people give them credit for and are decent against the run. With the banged up quarterbacks, the Jags might focus on the run then. But we have seen Ivory run and he is a tough guy to stop. We think he comes out on top and is a decent RB1 play this week.

New York Jets RB Stevan Ridley (knee) was activated from the Physically Unable to Perform list Friday, Oct. 30, and WR Chris Owusu was waived in a corresponding move.

Footballguys view: Add Ridley now as a preemptive pickup if you have the space on your bench. He's a talented runner and behind starter Chris Ivory. This season, Ivory has been fantastic--but fantasy owners need to remember that Ivory gets banged up quite a bit. If something were to happen to Ivory, then Ridley could take over and shine.

Jets | No restrictions for Stevan Ridley    Thu Oct 29, 05:58 PM

New York Jets RB Stevan Ridley (knee) has no restrictions from the medical staff after being removed from the Physically Unable to Perform list last week. Ivory's bruising running style makes Ridley's presence that much more important down the stretch.

Jets | Stevan Ridley looks better    Thu Oct 29, 01:09 PM

New York Jets RB Stevan Ridley (knee) looks better in practice this week than he did last week, according to offensive coordinator Chan Gailey. 'He's running with more confidence,' Gailey said.

Footballguys view: This is still Chris Ivory's team and we don't expect anyone to have a significant amount of carries as long as Ivory can play. He's been a bit banged up, so someone's roll could increase - Zac Stacy did see seven carries against the Patriots - but until that happens, Ivory is the most steady option in the backfield. He'll be a solid RB2 this week against the Oakland Raiders.

Jets | Stevan Ridley won't play    Sat Oct 24, 03:18 PM

New York Jets RB Stevan Ridley (knee) will not play Sunday, Oct. 25, against the New England Patriots as he continues to recover from offseason ACL surgery.

Footballguys view: In deeper leagues, go ahead and pick up Ridley. Chris Ivory has been great, but he's got a history of getting dinged up. When Ridley is ready, he gives the Jets valuable veteran depth behind a starter with an injury history. That's a guy you want on your bench as a lottery ticket that could pay off big.
