TSN.CA reports the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League have signed free-agent WR Brandon Rideau (Bears). Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: Rideau made some plays for the Bears in training camp, but could never work his way up the depth chart. |

Bears | Three battle for the third WR spot Thu Sep 3, 11:59 AM
Bob LeGere, from the Daily Herald, notes the situation for Rashied Davis, Brandon Rideau, and Devin Aromashodu is similar. One will be the Bears' No. 3 wide receiver behind starters Devin Hester and Earl Bennett when the regular season opens under the lights Sept. 13 at Green Bay. But any one of them also could be cut by Saturday, when all NFL teams are required to reduce their rosters to 53 by 5 p.m. Chicago time.
Footballguys view: Davis, the former Arena League star, is the most experienced player out of this group, but his experience might not win him the job. Rideau has perhaps the most upside out of this trio, but has only been active for 1 game in three years with the team. Aromashodu has been drawing praise from QB Jay Cutler, and could win the spot because of his intriguing mix of size and speed. |

Bears | Three competing for No. 3 WR job Sat Aug 29, 01:23 AM
Larry Mayer, of ChicagoBears.com, reports Chicago Bears WR Devin Aromashodu, WR Rashied Davis and WR Brandon Rideau are all competing for the No. 3 wide receiver job. Some believe Aromashodu has the edge heading into the team's preseason game Sunday, Aug. 30. However, Davis has the most experience of the three and Rideau has been making more plays in training camp.
Footballguys view: Rookies Johnny Knox and Juaquin Iglesias had great showing in OTAs, but they have been passed by the veterans in training camp. We expect at least one of these vets that loses this battle will be cut to make room for the rookies. |

Bears | Rideau pushing for #3 WR role Fri Aug 7, 11:43 AM
Larry Mayer, of ChicagoBears.com, reports that Bears WR Brandon Rideau is having a good camp and he has been working as the #3 WR in the first-team offense. "Everything's going pretty good for me [in camp]," Rideau said. "I'm minimizing my mental errors and taking advantage of every opportunity. There are a lot more opportunities to come, and I just want to do the best I can in those situations."
Footballguys view: Rookies Johnny Knox and Juaquin Iglesias, and veteran Rashied Davis are part of this wide-open battle. No matter who wins, it sounds like Devin Hester and Earl Bennett's supporting cast of WRs will be better than expected, even if they are inexperienced. |

Bears | Rideau working with No. 1 offense Wed Aug 5, 11:34 PM
Larry Mayer, of ChicagoBears.com, reports Chicago Bears WR Brandon Rideau worked as the No. 3 wide receiver with the first-team offense during practice Wednesday, Aug. 5.
Footballguys view: Rideau has performed well in training camp and has a chance to contribute in 2009. A star last August, Rideau led the NFL with three touchdown receptions in the 2008 preseason. He's a bigger target (6'3" 198 pounds) and uses his speed to get on top of a defense in a hurry. Rideau also has long arms that he uses to keep cornerbacks off when they're trying to jam him, and they also help him grab passes that may seem out of reach. |

Bears | Rideau finally getting his chance Sun Aug 2, 05:10 PM
Brad Biggs, from the Chicago Sun-Times, reports Brandon Rideau is third on the depth chart right now behind Devin Hester and Earl Bennett. If he can hold his ground with veteran Rashied Davis and three draft picks behind him, his opportunity finally will arrive. ''If he can continue to make strides, yeah, I am excited about him,'' Turner said. ''He is a big target. I know [quarterback] Jay [Cutler] feels excited about him. He catches the ball. We'll have to see how he progresses, but if he can keep making the strides he has made, he can be a factor. I like him.''

Bears | Rideau sees time with first team Wednesday Wed May 20, 04:08 PM
Brad Biggs, of the Chicago Sun-Times, reports Chicago Bears WR Brandon Rideau took some reps with the first-team offense during practice Wednesday, May 20.
Footballguys view: This is an interesting development as Rideau is currently listed as 7th on the depth chart behind some potentially solid players like Derek Kinder and Johnny Knox. The Bears have spent the offseason searching for WR help and may just be giving their due diligence here. |
