Buccaneers | Jason Pierre-Paul sets the bar high    Sat Jul 7, 11:12 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers DE Jason Pierre-Paul said he wants to be the first Buccaneer to record double-digit sacks in a season since retired DE Simeon Rice in 2005.

Footballguys view: The Bucs might not be the best IDP situation for defensive linemen because of they have a two-deep group of eight that rivals the Eagles assemblage of talent. Pierre-Paul is a candidate to take a step back in production despite his lofty goals.

Lions | Could Simeon Rice help the team?    Sat Jul 11, 08:51 PM

Phillip Zaroo, from MLive.com, speculates that while a lot of focus has been on the Detroit Lions eventually acquiring defensive end Kevin Carter, there's another veteran player who could help the defense. Simeon Rice became the second-fastest player to reach 100 in the NFL, surpassed only by Hall of Fame defensive end Reggie White. Rice has 122 sacks for his career. In his first 10 seasons, Rice averaged 12 sacks per year.

Footballguys view: Rice is 35 years old now, and a shoulder injury kept him out of football for the entire 2008 season. He claims that he's fully healed now and was recently quoted saying "Right now, if I was to put on a helmet, I'm automatically in the top five in this league at that spot." Confidence has never been an issue for Rice, but he's not the same player he used to be years ago.

Bears | Unlikely to pursue Rice    Wed May 6, 03:27 PM

Brad Biggs, of the Chicago Sun-Times, reports Chicago Bears general manager Jerry Angelo said the team likely will not pursue unrestricted free-agent DE Simeon Rice (Colts).

Footballguys view: Simeon Rice believes that he would be a top 5 pass rusher in the league right now. It's unlikely that any team will sign him to a contract unless they get desperate.

NFL | S. Rice believes he's still one of best defensive ends    Wed May 6, 09:33 AM

WQYK 1010 Sports Radio reports free-agent DE Simeon Rice (Colts) said during an interview that he will definitely make a return in 2009. Rice added that he would automatically be among the top five defensive ends in the NFL.

Footballguys view: Top 5? Really? It's hard to take Simeon Rice seriously when he says things like this. It's hard to imagine a team signing him unless they get really desperate.
