Seattle Seahawks WR Sidney Rice has decided to retire, according to a league source. Rice has decided to retire due to a history of concussions.

Footballguys view: Rice has reportedly decide to retire because of a history with concussions. He was also trying to work his way back from a torn ACL suffered last year too. At only 27 years old, Rice has missed a total of 31 games in seven years in the NFL. His best season was 2009, when he caught 83 passes for 1,312 yards and eight touchdowns for the Vikings.

Seahawks | Sidney Rice may not be ready for start of camp    Thu Jun 19, 09:16 PM

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said WR Sidney Rice (knee) is looking great at this point but there is a chance he may not be ready for the start of training camp.

Footballguys view: This comes as no shock. Rice is a talented player, but he's struggled to stay healthy during his pro career. The team could place him on the PUP list to begin camp if they want to give him some extra time to recover. Either way, they're likely to take it easy on him in camp while they get him ready for Week 1 of the regular season.

Panthers | Might be interested in Sidney Rice    Mon Apr 14, 11:52 PM

The Carolina Panthers might show an interest in free-agent WR Sidney Rice (Seahawks), but only at the right price.

Footballguys view: Might?....Might? The Panthers NEED to show an interest in any wide receiver that would be an upgrade, and Rice would do just that. Right now a group consisting of Tavarres King, Marvin McNutt, Tiquan Underwood and Jerricho Cotchery doesn't exactly strike fear in the hearts of opposing defenses.

NFL | Sidney Rice cleared for activities    Mon Apr 14, 02:47 PM

Free-agent WR Sidney Rice (knee) has been cleared to participate in football activities by Dr. James Andrews, according to a source.

Footballguys view: The Seattle Seahawks, New York Giants, New Orleans Saints and Carolina Panthers are believed to have some interest in Rice. The Panthers should be the frontrunners for his services as they have hardly any talent at the wide receiver position.

Panthers | Not interested in Sidney Rice    Sun Mar 30, 11:57 PM

The Carolina Panthers have not expressed interest in free-agent WR Sidney Rice (Seahawks) at this point.

Saints | Interested in Sidney Rice    Mon Mar 17, 01:24 PM

The New Orleans Saints are interested in signing free-agent WR Sidney Rice (Seahawks).

Jets | Interested in Sidney Rice    Mon Mar 17, 01:23 PM

The New York Jets are interested in signing free-agent WR Sidney Rice (Seahawks).

Footballguys view: Rice would be able to help the passing game. The team already added Eric Decker in free agency, and Rice could provide them with a deep threat on the opposite side of the field. Jeremy Kerley could then work in the slot.

Seahawks | Interested in re-signing Sidney Rice    Thu Mar 13, 08:54 PM

Panthers | Could be landing spot for Sidney Rice    Sat Mar 1, 11:50 PM

Free-agent WR Sidney Rice (Seahawks) could be a value signing for the Carolina Panthers. He is still just 27 years old, and he is tall with great hands.

Footballguys view: The Panthers need to upgrade the wide receiver position. Rice is a fantastic option if healthy, but staying durable has been a problem for him almost his entire pro career. Anywhere he goes, Rice is likely to sign a one-year "prove it" deal.

Seahawks | Sidney Rice, Red Bryant released    Fri Feb 28, 04:14 PM

The Seattle Seahawks officially released WR Sidney Rice and DE Red Bryant Friday, Feb. 28.

Footballguys view: Rice tore his ACL in October, and Bryant is more of a one-dimensional run stuffer. Bryant should attract a lot of action on the open market, especially from New England, who pursued him in the past. Rice may not get signed until he is further along in his recovery.

Seahawks | Sidney Rice to be cut    Fri Feb 21, 12:31 PM

The Seattle Seahawks will release WR Sidney Rice, according to league sources. Rice was due $17.5 million in base salary over the next two seasons.

Footballguys view: Zero surprise here. The Seahawks want to keep free agent wide receiver Golden Tate around in 2014. They also have designs of keeping most of the defense intact. That means a new (and larger) contract for guys like defensive end Michael Bennett. They need to save money anywhere they can.

Jets | Sidney Rice could be an option    Mon Feb 10, 02:30 PM

The New York Jets could show interest in Seattle Seahawks WR Sidney Rice if the Seahawks decide to release Rice this offseason.

Footballguys view: The Jets can't rely on Stephen Hill to develop. They need to add more weapons in the passing game outside of Jeremy Kerley. Rice has struggled to fight off injuries, but he's a quality weapon when healthy. He could be signed for a "prove it" deal in 2014.

Seahawks | Sidney Rice likely will be cut    Tue Feb 4, 10:39 PM

The Seattle Seahawks likely will release WR Sidney Rice this offseason in order to create $7.3 million in salary cap space.

Seahawks | Receiving corps steps up in absence of two WR's    Mon Nov 11, 02:41 AM

In the absence of Seattle Seahawks WR's Sidney Rice and Percy Harvin, a trio of receivers combined for a stellar day against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, Nov. 10. WR's Golden Tate, Jermaine Kearse and Doug Baldwin combined for 14 catches, 257 yards and two touchdowns.

Footballguys view: Wilson looked good targeting all of his receivers on Sunday. He did a good job of spreading the ball around, and his receivers responded by making difficult grabs at times.

Seahawks | Make roster moves    Wed Oct 30, 04:13 PM

The Seattle Seahawks placed WR Sidney Rice (knee) on injured reserve Wednesday, Oct. 30. In a corresponding move, the team promoted WR Ricardo Lockette from the practice squad to the active roster.

Footballguys view: Lockette is a fast wide receiver who can get downfield in the blink of an eye. He'll have little fantasy value as a depth receiver for the Seahawks.

Seahawks | Sidney Rice not expected to return for 2014    Wed Oct 30, 12:49 PM

Seattle Seahawks WR Sidney Rice (knee) is not expected to be with the team next season because of his salary as well as his knee injury. Rice is scheduled to make $8.5 million in 2014 and would count $9.7 million against the salary cap.

Footballguys view: Rice is a talented player and could get a little bit of interest on the open market. His durability history is lengthy and if released that will keep the market somewhat cool for his services.

Footballguys view: Rice is incredibly talented but oft-injured. With Percy Harvin coming back soon his low fantasy value was going to take a hit anyway.

Updating a previous report, Seattle Seahawks WR Sidney Rice (knee) injured his left knee in the first half of the Week 8 game against the St. Louis Rams Monday, Oct. 28, and he is doubtful to return.

Seattle Seahawks WR Sidney Rice (knee) was added to the injury report Friday, Oct. 11. He did not practice, and is listed as probable for Week 6 against the Tennessee Titans.

Both quarterbacks combined for 331 yards and five touchdown passes and completed 21 of 29 throws. TE Zach Miller and WR Sidney Rice had two touchdowns each.

Footballguys view: No surprise here. The Seahawks were going to roll the Jaguars and could have done it on the ground or through the air. Jackson had a better fantasy day than some starters in Week 3.

Seahawks | Sidney Rice probable    Fri Sep 6, 05:53 PM

Seattle Seahawks WR Sidney Rice (knee) fully participated in practice Friday, Sept. 6, and is listed as probable for Week 1.

Seahawks | Sidney Rice will be ready Week 1    Wed Aug 28, 03:20 PM

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said WR Sidney Rice (knee) will not play in the final preseason game but will be ready for the start of the regular season.

Footballguys view: The Seahawks kept Rice from playing in the preseason as a precautionary move. The plan was always to have him ready for the regular season opener. If he stays healthy then we like him as a high upside WR4 for your fantasy team. Rice is coming off the board at WR49 (12.04) in 12 team PPR leagues.

Seattle Seahawks WR Sidney Rice (knee) took part in some drills Friday, Aug. 2, but he did not take part in the team's scrimmage. Rice talked about the procedure he had done in Switzerland, which he said was similar to Platelet-rich Plasma treatment on his knee.

Footballguys view: Rice also said that it's going to take a few weeks to know if the procedure worked. The Seahawks need it to work as they'll already be missing WR Percy Harvin for a majority of the season. Rice's current ADP (WR46) reflects his injury concern.

Seahawks | Sidney Rice could practice soon    Fri Aug 2, 04:46 PM

Updating a previous report, Seattle Seahawks WR Sidney Rice (knee) could return to practice as soon as Sunday, Aug. 4.

Footballguys view: If he can, then we won't drop him on our boards at all, and consider him a possible beneficiary of Percy Harvin's misfortune. Golden Tate is still catching our attention and could eventually pass Rice as the Seahawks wide receiver to target late in drafts.

Seahawks | Sidney Rice update    Fri Aug 2, 10:12 AM

Seattle Seahawks WR Sidney Rice (knee) returned from Switzerland after receiving treatment on his knee. He won't require surgery and should return early in the preseason.

Footballguys view: We'll watching this closely to see how quickly Rice can take the field. He clearly has some sort of injury, and if he's not resuming normal activity in the next few weeks, it will be hard to trust him to play 16 games. The Seahawks can say that this was planned, but it's silly to think that they would plan to have Rice away during camp.

Seahawks | Sidney Rice in Switzerland for treatment    Wed Jul 31, 11:51 AM

Seattle Seahawks WR Sidney Rice (knee) is in Switzerland for what head coach Pete Carroll says is a non-surgical procedure on his knee. 'When he comes back, he'll go right back on the field,' Carroll said Tuesday, July 30. 'So he didn't get hurt.'

Footballguys view: Rice should return stateside here in the near future. The team not only expects him to be ready for the regular season but he's expected to be ready for the preseason.

Seahawks | No surgery for Sidney Rice    Tue Jul 30, 06:37 PM

Seattle Seahawks WR Sidney Rice (knee) will not be having surgery on his knee, and head coach Pete Carroll doesn't expect Rice to miss any preseason or regular season games this year.

Footballguys view: Rice is in Switzerland getting some mysterious treatment for his knee. The procedure is being called 'preventative' by Carroll. We'll see if Rice can get back to the states and get into the lineup for the team's first preseason game.

Seahawks | Sidney Rice getting treatment on knee    Tue Jul 30, 04:19 PM

Seattle Seahawks WR Sidney Rice (knee) is in Switzerland getting treatment on a knee, according to head coach Pete Carroll.

Footballguys view: Carroll doesn't seemed worried by Rice's latest ailment. He says that Rice will be ready for the preseason and the regular season. According the head coach this procedure is 'preventative' and Rice should be back stateside soon. The Seahawks have enough concerns at the WR position with the injury to Percy Harvin (hip).

Seahawks | Sidney Rice ready to step up    Sun Jul 28, 10:52 PM

Seattle Seahawks WR Sidney Rice is healthy heading into training camp for the first time in a while, and he is ready to step up in the event WR Percy Harvin (hip) is sidelined. 'He's the strongest he's ever been,' head coach Pete Carroll said. 'He's really built himself up, he's gained 10 pounds and he feels really good about it.'

Footballguys view: He played all 16 games last year, and he has the best quarterback he has played with since his breakout season of 2009 with Brett Favre. Rice has extra value in nonPPR leagues, where his ability to win jumpballs and rule the red zone has added punch. If Percy Harvin is out for an extended period, that should only enhance Rice's value. With an ADP outside of the top 10 rounds, Rice is an easy call to be one of your top bench players.

Seahawks | Percy Harvin may need surgery    Thu Jul 25, 03:48 PM

Updating previous reports, Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said there is a possibility that WR Percy Harvin (hip) may need surgery on his injured hip. He is scheduled to get a second opinion on the injury.

Footballguys view: Carroll is one of the straighter shooters among NFL head coaches. It is sobering, but the reality is that we have no idea how many games Harvin will play this year in light of today's news.

Seahawks | Battle to be heated for fifth WR job    Tue Jul 23, 11:59 AM

Seattle Seahawks WRs Doug Baldwin, Percy Harvin, Sidney Rice and Golden Tate are expected to be the top four wide receivers. Unless an injury or two occurs, that leaves WRs Phil Bates, Arceto Clark, Chris Harper, Greg Herd Jermaine Kearse, Brett Swain, Justin Veltung, Bryan Walters and Stephen Williams to battle it out for the fifth, and perhaps sixth, receiver job(s). The team kept five receivers last season, but could elect to keep six. Walters reportedly had a strong offseason working in the slot.

Footballguys view: Keep your eye on Harper here. The rookie from Kansas State has drawn comparisons to Anquan Boldin (49ers) because of his size, hands, and run after the catch ability.

Seahawks | Doug Baldwin stands out    Wed Jun 26, 10:16 PM

Seattle Seahawks WR Doug Baldwin reportedly was a standout during organized team activities (OTAs) and minicamp. He and rookie WR Chris Harper were impressive, but they are still behind WRs Percy Harvin, Sidney Rice and Golden Tate as far as the pecking order is concerned.

Footballguys view: Baldwin flashed as a rookie, but didn't make much noise in 2012. He might be feeling the pressure of Percy Harvin and the obstruction he presents for snaps in the slot, along with fourth round pick Chris Harper, who might be next in line to start outside because of his rugged game and surprising speed. Baldwin isn't worth drafting, but deep dynasty PPR league owners should be monitoring him this summer.

Seahawks | Percy Harvin would be used in slot    Mon Mar 11, 04:13 PM

The Seattle Seahawks likely will use WR Percy Harvin as the slot receiver with WRs Sidney Rice and Golden Tate on the outside in three-receiver sets.
