Chargers | Three could compete for final WR spot Mon Aug 23, 01:27 PM
San Diego Chargers WRs Josh Reed, Seyi Ajirotutu and Jeremy Williams could compete for the final receiver spot on the roster if the team decides to keep only four wide receivers on their final roster, reports Kevin Acee, of the San Diego Union-Tribune.
Footballguys view: Williams did not do much in the game against the Cowboys, but Seyi Ajirotutu had a big game. Our very own Cecil Lammey watched Ajirotutu up close during the week of practice for the Shrine Game in Orlando earlier this year and came away impressed with the young receiver's game. Ajirotutu is a raw prospect with good upside, and is known as a hard worker and a fast learner. |

Chargers | Josh Reed to work in slot Sat Jul 24, 02:18 PM
San Diego Chargers WR Josh Reed will provide a reliable option out of the slot and bolster the team's depth at receiver, reports Christopher Smith, of Chargers.com.
Footballguys view: Reed was a converted running back in college at LSU and has decent running ability in the open field. However, he's a career underachiever who struggles to get open consistently. Even if Vincent Jackson misses the entire season, we're not expecting much from Reed. |

Chargers | Buster Davis unlikely to benefit from Jackson's absence Sat Jun 26, 05:10 PM
Michael Blunda, from ProFootballWeekly.com, reports since the Chargers drafted him in the first round in 2007, WR Buster Davis has often earned rave reviews for his work in practice. The only problem: His dazzling talent has never carried over into game action, as he has just 30 catches for 299 yards and one touchdown in three seasons. The hype machine is in full gear again this offseason, with Davis shining in OTAs and minicamps, making one spectacular grab after another. As usual, though, it's likely too early to point to this as his breakout year.
Footballguys view: Davis has been very disappointing during his pro career after being a first-round pick out of LSU a few years ago. We'll see if he can stay healthy and impress coaches enough to stick around in 2010. |

Chargers | Davis to compete with Reed Sun Jun 13, 09:36 PM
CBSSports.com reports Chargers coach Norv Turner said Friday that WR Josh Reed will compete with Craig Davis for reps behind starters Vincent Jackson and Malcom Floyd. "That's exciting to me, No. 1 for him to be available, and No. 2 for him to want to be here," Turner said of Reed. "He and (Davis) are similar."
Footballguys view: Both former LSU receivers have failed to live up to expectations during their pro careers, but Davis has a much higher upside. We're not expecting much from Reed or Davis this season. |

Chargers | Josh Reed to compete for slot spot Sat Jun 12, 05:58 PM
San Diego Chargers WR Josh Reed will be competing for the team's slot receiver job during training camp, reports Kevin Acee, of the San Diego Union-Tribune.
Footballguys view: Josh Reed has an average skill set, and would not add much as a slot receiver. He was converted from running back to wide receiver in college, but his run after the catch ability has not developed like it should. He'll compete with Legedu Naanee and Craig Davis for the slot position. |

Chargers | Josh Reed signed Fri Jun 11, 02:56 PM
The San Diego Chargers have signed unrestricted free-agent WR Josh Reed (Bills) to a one-year deal, according to Chargers.com. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: This is strictly an insurance move here for the Chargers as Vincent Jackson continues to hold out. Reed has struggled to live up to expectations during his pro career, but can work the underneath routes for San Diego. The signing of Reed could signal an end to the "T.O. to the Chargers" talk. |

Patriots | Reed to visit Monday Sat Mar 6, 08:10 PM
Mike Reiss, of ESPNBoston.com, reports free-agent WR Josh Reed (Bills) is scheduled to visit with the New England Patriots Monday, March 8.
Footballguys view: Reed could have value in the Patriots offense because of his toughness and run after the catch ability. He's never lived up to the potential he had coming out of LSU, but at this point in his career would be solid veteran depth. |

Bills | Reed may not return in 2010 Sat Jan 2, 11:30 AM
Allen Wilson, of The Buffalo News, reports Buffalo Bills WR Josh Reed (ankle), who will be a free agent at season's end, may not return to the team next season.
Footballguys view: It never quite came together for the former LSU Tiger with the Bills, and now he may have to move on to another team. He originally went to LSU as a running back, but was converted to wide receiver and that's why he has flashed good run after the catch ability in the pros. Reed's hands have been inconsistent, and he is unlikely to develop further as a pro. |

Bills | Owens arrival won't diminish Reed's importance Wed Jul 29, 07:20 PM
Kevin Oklobzija, of the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle, reports that Buffalo WR Josh Reed will move back to the slot this year, "a spot that best suits his well-rounded skill set". Oklobzija writes that Reed should get open underneath a lot if Terrell Owens and Lee Evans are running downfield routes, and Reed's excellent blocking ability will continue to be harnessed.
Footballguys view: Reed could be a 50-60 catch receiver if the Bills really do commit to run no huddle almost half of the time, and if they make the three wide set their prevalent offensive formation, then Reed could be a viable WR4/WR4 in PPR leagues. |

Bills | TO, Evans and Reed in top receiving group Sat Jul 25, 07:39 PM
Chris Brown, of BuffaloBills.com, reports the Buffalo Bills had WRs Terrell Owens, Lee Evans and Josh Reed working with the first-string offense when they worked with three-receiver sets during training camp practice Saturday, July 25.
Footballguys view: Terrell Owens is going to constantly draw double teams which should leave Lee Evans with single coverage most of the time. Quarterback Trent Edwards should be able to hit Evans deep and Josh Reed should work the underneath routes. Reed was a converted RB at LSU and has natural run after the catch ability. |

Bills | Reed 'locked in' as third receiver Sun Jul 19, 06:34 PM
Allen Wilson, of the Buffalo News, reports that WR Josh Reed is "locked in" as the third receiver behind Terrell Owens and Lee Evans.
Footballguys view: Reed was miscast as a starter and should be a lot more effective as a slot receiver, although it will hurt his already negligible fantasy value. |
