Raiders | Marcel Reece let go    Mon Sep 26, 05:23 PM

Oakland Raiders FB Marcel Reece was released Monday, Sept. 26.

Footballguys view: Reece is coming off his three-game suspension to start the year, and the team decides to go in a different direction. He's a talented fullback, so perhaps Reece will be able to find a new home in the near future.

Raiders | Marcel Reece due back in Week 4    Mon Sep 26, 10:33 AM

Oakland Raiders FB Marcel Reece will be eligible to return in Week 4 from a four-game suspension stemming from last season.

Footballguys view: Reece is a weapon for the Raiders offense as he can be used effectively as a runner or receiver out of the backfield. The Raiders are already splitting time in the backfield between starter Latavius Murray and rookies DeAndre Washington and Jalen Richard. Adding Reece to the mix may take a few touches away in that rotation.

Raiders | Latavius Murray praised by teammate    Sun Jun 28, 08:26 PM

Oakland Raiders FB Marcel Reece said he doesn't expect a drop off in chemistry as RB Latavius Murray replaces RB Darren McFadden this season because Murray has spent the last couple of years watching film and talking football with Reece.

Footballguys view: We're not expecting a dropoff...McFadden was always too banged up to make much of an impact. Murray can be the lead back for the Raiders, and he has the potential to be a low-end RB2 for fantasy owners. The team has put better weapons around Derek Carr this offseason, and Murray can lead the charge on the ground.

Raiders | Marcel Reece earns more carries    Sat Nov 22, 04:34 PM

Oakland Raiders FB Marcel Reece earned more carries after his performance in Week 12 Thursday, Nov. 20. Reece rushed for 46 yards during a crucial 17-play, 80-yard drive late in the game. Interim head coach Tony Sparano said he could envision using Reece as the primary running back again.

Footballguys view: Reece should have been getting a bit more playing time already, and we're glad the Raiders finally came around. His fantasy value is only good enough for fantasy owners in deeper PPR leagues.

Raiders | Marcel Reece could see touches    Thu Sep 11, 01:06 AM

Oakland Raiders FB Marcel Reece could see an increase in touches in Week 2 against the Houston Texans if RB Maurice Jones-Drew (hand) is forced out of action.

Footballguys view: While Reece can see some work, we'd expect Darren McFadden to get the bulk of it if Maurice Jones-Drew is out. Reece might be worth a spot on deeper rosters in case McFadden implodes or gets hurt, but he isn't someone to start this week.

Oakland Raiders WR Brice Butler (undisclosed) and FB Marcel Reece (foot) did not practice Monday, Aug. 18.

Raiders | Marcel Reece sheds weight    Wed Jul 30, 11:42 PM

Oakland Raiders FB Marcel Reece shed about 15 pounds during the offseason.

Footballguys view: Reece is a fine receiver out of the backfield, blocker and runner between the tackles. His fantasy value is low with Maurice Jones-Drew and Darren McFadden in the Raiders backfield. However, there could be some weeks where he's worth considering as a "what the heck" flex in deep leagues.

Raiders | Plan to run the ball often    Tue Jul 8, 12:31 PM

Oakland Raiders OT Donald Penn hinted that the team will be a run-first squad this year. 'We're gonna run the ball, run the ball, then run it again, until the defense stops us,' Penn said.

Footballguys view: We're sure the Raiders want to run the ball a lot, but game scripts may not cooperate. Darren McFadden, Maurice Jones-Drew, and Latavius Murray could be the beneficiaries of this philosophy, but if they are splitting the running game up with no true lead back, it will be frustrating for fantasy.

Raiders | Marcel Reece has good day    Sun Dec 8, 04:16 PM

Oakland Raiders RB Marcel Reece had 19 carries for 123 yards in Week 14. One of them was a 63-yard touchdown run.

Footballguys view: Reece was able to break through against the best run defense in the league. If Rashad Jennings is not cleared for the Week 15 game against the Chiefs, Reece will be a nice RB2 play.

Raiders | Rashad Jennings not expected to play    Sun Dec 8, 10:33 AM

Oakland Raiders RB Rashad Jennings (concussion) is not expected to play in the team's Week 14 game. The Raiders will shift FB Marcel Reece over.

Footballguys view: Reece has low-end RB2 value in PPR leagues because of his good hands as a receiver, but in nonPPR leagues, he is likely to be stacked up by the Jets defense too often to matter.

Raiders | Marcel Reece saw more PT    Tue Nov 19, 02:20 PM

Oakland Raiders FB Marcel Reece became a focal point of the offense in the team's Week 11 victory over the Houston Texans after averaging just three touches in the first nine games of the year. Reece ran the ball four times for six yards and caught two passes for 17 yards.

Footballguys view: Getting Reece more involved is a smart move. He can contribute as a blocker, runner or receiver out of the backfield. The Raiders can even line him up wide where he's good at running routes and getting open.

Raiders | Marcel Reece probable    Fri Oct 11, 07:37 PM

Oakland Raiders FB Marcel Reece (knee) was a limited participant in practice for the third straight day Friday, Oct. 11, and he is listed as probable for the Week 6 game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Footballguys view: Reece should get worked into the backfield regardless of the status of Darren McFadden, and if McFadden is out, he has solid flex value in PPR leagues.
