Free-agent RB Joseph Randle (Cowboys) was arrested in Kansas Sunday, Feb. 21, on charges of aggravated battery, possession of hallucinogens and criminal damage to property. It was his fifth arrest in the last 17 months.

Footballguys view: His playing days are likely over in the NFL, and we just hope Randle gets the help he needs and gets his life on the right track.

Cowboys | Joseph Randle released by Dallas    Tue Nov 3, 01:14 PM

Dallas Cowboys RB Joseph Randle was released Tuesday, Nov. 3, according to team sources.

Footballguys view: Randle was having personal problems, and he's always been a player who might have been on the edge of the roster...even when he was starting. His off-field issues and average skill set means Randle may have a difficult time finding a new job.

The Dallas Cowboys have declared WR Brice Butler, OG Ronald Leary, QB Kellen Moore, CB Tyler Patmon, RB Joseph Randle, DE Ryan Russell, TE Geoff Swaim inactive for Week 8.

Cowboys | Joseph Randle idle Friday    Fri Oct 30, 11:27 AM

Dallas Cowboys RB Joseph Randle (oblique) is out of practice Friday, Oct. 30, as he's tending to personal matters.

Footballguys view: Randle is likely out this week and we're not sure when he'll return. Darren McFadden is the man in Dallas with Christine Michael backing him up and another former Seahawk Rod Smith as the third stringer.

Cowboys | Joseph Randle out for Week 8    Thu Oct 29, 12:24 PM

Dallas Cowboys RB Joseph Randle (oblique) will not play Sunday, Nov. 1, due to an oblique strain.

Footballguys view: Or suspension. Whichever. Lock onto Darren McFadden as a solid RB2 against the Seattle defense, which has allowed 305 yards and four touchdowns on the ground over the last three weeks.

Cowboys | Joseph Randle facing short ban    Thu Oct 29, 12:24 PM

Updating earlier reports, Dallas Cowboys RB Joseph Randle is facing a one- or two-game suspension for violating the personal conduct policy.

Footballguys view: This could explain why he left the facility. This leaves Darren McFadden in full control as the No. 1 back in Dallas for as long as he is healthy. McFadden is a solid RB2 even against Seattle, who has allowed plenty of yards over the last few weeks.

Cowboys | Joseph Randle idle Thursday    Thu Oct 29, 11:40 AM

Dallas Cowboys RB Joseph Randle (oblique, personal) won't practice Thursday, Oct. 29, as he deals with an oblique injury and a personal issue, according to head coach Jason Garrett.

Footballguys view: The personal issue is either his attitude or a potential suspension, depending on who you read. McFadden will get the start and should be an OK RB2 against the Seattle Seahawks. Seattle allowed 61 yards rushing to San Francisco last Thursday but were blown up for 135 and three touchdowns the week before by Carolina. They can be run on.

Cowboys | Joseph Randle facing discipline    Thu Oct 29, 10:30 AM

Dallas Cowboys RB Joseph Randle is subject to discipline for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy, according to multiple sources. Randle met with NFL investigators this summer and within the past week, the NFL determined he violated the league's personal conduct policy stemming from an arrest this offseason. Randle could simply face a fine, but a suspension is entirely possible.

Footballguys view: We'll keep an eye on this, as it could be the real reason he bailed from the facility. Randle could have a shot at taking the job back but you can't do that while suspended.

Cowboys | Joseph Randle misses treatment    Thu Oct 29, 09:08 AM

Dallas Cowboys RB Joseph Randle (oblique) missed a scheduled treatment Wednesday, Oct. 28, after he was told he was demoted in favor of RB Darren McFadden. Randle is expected back at the facility Thursday, Oct. 29.

Footballguys view: Maybe he caught some 'Ryan Mallett Fever' which is never a good thing. What's really staggeringly stupid about it is we all know McFadden is a walking MASH unit. There's a good chance he won't finish the season. Why throw away a decent shot at getting the gig back when McFadden gets hurt.

Cowboys | Joseph Randle doesn't practice    Wed Oct 28, 06:02 PM

Dallas Cowboys RB Joseph Randle (oblique) did not take part in practice Wednesday, Oct. 28.

Footballguys view: Right now it looks like Darren McFadden will get the start and bulk of carries, making him an OK RB2 play even against the tough Seattle Seahawks. We might see more of Christine Michael this week but he's still not more than a RB4 until we see something from him.

Cowboys | Joseph Randle to miss some time    Mon Oct 26, 12:44 PM

Dallas Cowboys RB Joseph Randle (oblique) is dealing with an oblique injury and is likely to miss some time, according to a source. RB Darren McFadden had a season-high 152 rushing yards in the Week 7 loss to the New York Giants in Randle's absence.

Footballguys view: The injury was supposed to be minor, but the team will re-evaluate Randle to see how serious the problem is. McFadden is the player to add in this backfield, and Christine Michael is still waiting in the wings for his opportunity.

Cowboys | Joseph Randle strains back    Sun Oct 25, 09:31 PM

Dallas Cowboys RB Joseph Randle (back) exited with a strained back against the New York Giants in Week 7 after rushing for 24 yards on two carries.

Footballguys view: The Cowboys running game looked better than it had at any point this season. With Dez Bryant back in the next week or two and Tony Romo soon after, Randle could have nice value after he heals if he didn't lose his job to Darren McFadden.

Cowboys | Joseph Randle likely will start    Sun Oct 25, 10:42 AM

Dallas Cowboys RB Joseph Randle likely will be the starting running back in the Week 7 game against the New York Giants.

Footballguys view: All of the bye week on Christine Michael has dissipated. He is still worth a roster spot, but not a Week 7 start. Randle is low RB2 against the Giants as he has been all season.

Cowboys | Joseph Randle still lead back    Thu Oct 22, 02:42 PM

Dallas Cowboys RB Joseph Randle will continue to get the bulk of the carries, according to offensive coordinator Scott Linehan. The team wants to get RB Christine Michael involved as well, though.

Footballguys view: We still like Michael more from a talent standpoint, but you have to realize the risk here. He's an RB3 on his own with a nice ceiling because if he gets hot, the Cowboys will ride him. On the other hand he has not shown he can grab the brass ring when he has had the chance in the past and if Randle (or Darren McFadden) gets hot, Michael could be left out in the cold. He's an interesting reach play in a daily fantasy GPP as well, but in cash tournaments might be to risky.

Cowboys | Christine Michael could start    Wed Oct 14, 09:28 AM

Dallas Cowboys RB Christine Michael could supplant RB Joseph Randle as the starting running back as the team evaluates the position in the bye week.

Footballguys view: We stand as firm believers in Michael's natural talent. He's a phenomenal player with a skill set that could shine in Dallas. However, Michael has been a knucklehead dating back to his college days at Texas A&M. If he "gets it" and starts for the Cowboys, he could be a season-changing back for your fantasy team. It's a big "if" but the possibility is there. Stay tuned.

Cowboys | Darren McFadden sees most action    Mon Oct 12, 11:33 AM

Dallas Cowboys RB Darren McFadden played 32 snaps in Week 5, with RB Joseph Randle playing 29 snaps.

Footballguys view: McFadden played the "Lance Dunbar" role for the Cowboys on Sunday. He caught nine passes for 62 yards against the Patriots. Going forward, this should be his role for the team.

Cowboys | Dallas to use RB rotation    Fri Oct 9, 11:24 PM

Dallas Cowboys RB Joseph Randle will start the Week 5 game against the New England Patriots in Week 5, with RB Darren McFadden seeing action a couple of series later and then giving way to RB Christine Michael. According to vice president Stephen Jones, the team will go with the hot hand from there.

Footballguys view: Ah, the dreaded "hot hand" approach. This is a bit messy for fantasy owners to nagivate; but here goes. Randle is a RB2, McFadden is a RB4/flex and Michael is more of a "what the heck" flex. We'll see who gets the hot hand (if anyone) in what is likely to be a come-from-behind game for Dallas.

Cowboys | Joseph Randle ready for repeat?    Thu Oct 1, 10:20 PM

Dallas Cowboys RB Joseph Randle faces the New Orleans Saints in Week 4, and the Saints are allowing the seventh-most rushing yards to running backs this season.

Footballguys view: On the flip side, buzz is building around Christine Michael, and he could steal Randle's thunder. Randle started red hot last week, but he was ineffective for the rest of the game, and he's not a strong inside runner. Stay tuned.

Cowboys | Christine Michael to see some action?    Thu Oct 1, 07:21 PM

Dallas Cowboys RB Christine Michael took repetitions with the first-team offense in practice this week and is being prepared for game-day duty in Week 4 against the New Orleans Saints. The Cowboys are trying to find a way to carry four running backs on their active roster including RBs Joseph Randle, Darren McFadden and Lance Dunbar. Michael spend the first few weeks in Dallas learning the offense while on the scout team. Michael brings size and a physical style to the run game that the other backs on the team do not. He could serve as the hammer with the Saints expected to use plenty of eight- and nine-man fronts with QB Brandon Weeden at the helm.

Footballguys view: Michael has a lot to prove after some lackluster chances in Seattle. The pecking order in Dallas' backfield is cloudy, so we wouldn't drop him in the lineup unless you're desperate until we see what he has to offer.

Cowboys | Joseph Randle runs for three TDs    Mon Sep 28, 01:05 AM

Dallas Cowboys RB Joseph Randle carried 14 times for 87 yards and three touchdowns in the Week 3 game against the Atlanta Falcons. He also hauled in two receptions for 18 yards.

Footballguys view: Randle was huge for fantasy owners on Sunday. Against the weak Saints defense in Week 4, we expect Randle to perform like a RB1. Know that without Tony Romo and Dez Bryant, Randle is likely to be the centerpiece of the offense.

Dallas Cowboys RB Joseph Randle carried 18 times for 51 yards in the Week 2 game against the Philadelphia Eagles and he added a catch for 14 yards.

Cowboys | Joseph Randle solid in Week 1     Mon Sep 14, 12:37 AM

Dallas Cowboys RB Joseph Randle carried the ball 16 times for 65 yards Sunday, Sept. 13, as the Cowboys scored a 27-26 win over the New York Giants.

Footballguys view: Randle is the lead back for the Cowboys, and fantasy owners should consider him a low-end RB2 with upside. The team did use Darren McFadden and Lance Dunbar as complementary backs behind him, but Randle had a majority of touches in the backfield.

Cowboys | Joseph Randle expected to start    Sun Sep 13, 10:45 AM

Dallas Cowboys RB Joseph Randle is expected to be the starting running back against the New York Giants in Week 1.

Footballguys view: Randle and Darren McFadden are both boom/bust flex plays, but tough to trust beyond that. The state of the Giants defense could make you more willing to take a chance on either where you need high upside, but this situation will likely take shape once the Cowboys see how both backs look tonight, with Lance Dunbar getting passing down work.

Cowboys | Joseph Randle likely to start Week 1    Sat Sep 12, 09:11 PM

Dallas Cowboys RB Joseph Randle has practiced with the first-team offense all week and has received a majority of the work, and 'all indications' point to Randle starting against the New York Giants Sunday, Sept. 13, according to Brandon George of the Dallas Morning News.

Footballguys view: Randle and Darren McFadden both have usage/quality risk, but the Cowboys line and state of the Giants defense make them both high upside flex plays and GPP considerations in DFS.

Cowboys | A true committee in Dallas    Thu Sep 10, 03:12 PM

Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett is unconcerned with who is starting at running back for the team in Week 1 against the New York Giants. RP Joseph Randle has seen most of the first-team snaps over RB Darren McFadden since the spring, and Randle was taking first-team snaps again in a portion of practice open to the media Wednesday, Sept. 9. However, it's clear that Dallas will go with a committee approach in the backfield with Randle, McFadden and RB Lance Dunbar seeing work. The division of labor could change game to game, half to half, quarter to quarter or series to series.

Footballguys view: So what this means is, avoid it this weekend. Seriously, there are too many moving parts for the risk. Everyone could break out or everyone could kill each other's production. At best Darren McFadden is a flex play (up until he stubs his toe) with Joseph Randle not far behind.

Cowboys | Christine Michael a backup plan    Wed Sep 9, 01:31 PM

Dallas Cowboys RB Christine Michael was acquired as a backup plan due to RB Darren McFadden's injury history and RB Joseph Randle's inexperience, according to sources.

Footballguys view: Michael has talent--always has, but lack of focus and maturity have plagued his football career...even dating back to his days at Texas A&M. We'll see if the light comes on for Michael now that he's with the Cowboys.

Cowboys | Darren McFadden likely to start    Wed Sep 9, 12:15 PM

Dallas Cowboys RB Darren McFadden is likely to start Week 1 Sunday, Sept. 13, but the team doesn't have a pitch count on him and RB Joseph Randle.

Footballguys view: Fantasy alert! McFadden has talent, but he's one of those players who struggles to stay healthy with a large role. If he can hang onto the starting job, then McFadden could perform like a RB2 with upside. However, he's always in danger of getting banged up and the team could turn to a guy like Christine Michael when he's up to speed in this offense.

Cowboys | Starting RB for Dallas undecided    Wed Sep 9, 12:38 AM

While Dallas Cowboys RB Joseph Randle is listed as the starter on the depth chart released before the Week 1 game against the New York Giants, head coach Jason Garrett and vice president Stephen Jones admitted Tuesday, Sept. 8, that they have not yet decided on a starter. RB Darren McFadden could be the starter, or RB Christine Michael might be the option.

Footballguys view: Fantasy owners thought they had something with Joseph Randle earlier this year. Then, Randle did next to nothing in camp or the preseason to impress. Now, with the addition of Michael, the team's backfield is completely up in the air. We feel Randle is the guy to start the season, but Michael is arguably the most naturally talented back on the roster. If Michael finally "gets it" he could be very significant for fantasy owners as the starter for the Cowboys.

Dallas Cowboys RB Joseph Randle is expected to be the starting running back for the team in Week 1.

Cowboys | Dallas to add another RB?    Wed Sep 2, 07:48 PM

Dallas Cowboys RBs Joseph Randle and Darren McFadden are both unlikely to play in the team's preseason finale Thursday, Sept. 3, and vice president Stephen Jones stopped short of saying the Cowboys were set at the running back position heading into the regular season. Jones didn't rule out Dallas signing a young running back to add to the mix. General manager Jerry Jones, however, is not surprised that there hasn't been separation between Randle and McFadden this preseason.

Footballguys view: The Cowboys should be all over a talented back who hits the open market. For example, if the Broncos let Montee Ball go then Dallas should add him to the mix. Neither Randle or McFadden have been impressive this offseason.

Cowboys | Joseph Randle could have 10-15 carries    Wed Sep 2, 08:28 AM

Dallas Cowboys RB Joseph Randle could have 10-15 carries per game with RB Darren McFadden slightly below that, in the opinion of beat writer Drew Davison.

Footballguys view: Wow. This Cowboys RB situation isn't as enticing for fantasy owners as some had thought it would be entering this season. No Dallas RB has impressed over the course of the preseason, and we wouldn't be surprised to see them scour the free agent market looking for help. Consider Randle a RB3 right now, which makes his current ADP of 4.06 in 12-team PPR higher than we'd take him. In that same ballpark, we prefer players like Doug Martin, Ameer Abdullah and Andre Ellington.

Cowboys | Joseph Randle part of committee?    Fri Aug 28, 10:06 PM

Dallas Cowboys RB Joseph Randle will share reps with RB Darren McFadden and RB Lance Dunbar because the Cowboys 'intend to take a committee approach,' according to Drew Davison of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Footballguys view: The Cowboys are a mess in the backfield and really it's 'pick your poison' time in Big D. If you must take someone here, Randle is your guy and he should make a decent RB2 or RB3, but we're concerned how the carries are going to split, so he lacks stability.

Cowboys | None of Dallas RBs standing out    Mon Aug 24, 09:10 PM

Dallas Cowboys RB Joseph Randle had seven carries for 30 yards in the preseason game Sunday, Aug. 23, against the San Francisco 49ers, while RB Darren McFadden had three totes for just four yards. RB Lance Dunbar didn't have a run from scrimmage, and managed just two grabs for three yards. 'We didn't run the ball very well,' head coach Jason Garrett said. 'Obviously we were trying to control the line of scrimmage and didn't do a very good job of that.' The team was also playing without three starters along the offensive line, so that needs to be taken into account.

Footballguys view: This is taking the shine off the "anyone can be a RB2 behind that offensive line" talk. It's only the preseason, and the games don't count--but this news item does matter. We'd like to see one guy emerge from the pack, and that should be Randle. It would comfort fantasy owners if he looked good entering the season.

Cowboys | Joseph Randle aggravated injury    Fri Aug 21, 08:21 AM

Updating a previous report, Dallas Cowboys RB Joseph Randle (oblique) aggravated his oblique injury Thursday, Aug. 20, and is doubtful for the second preseason game Sunday, Aug. 23.

Footballguys view: Randle needs to get on the field next week to test his injury before the season starts or he could be more likely to aggravate the injury again early in the regular. This isn't a debilitating injury that could cost Randle a long stretch of missed time, but it could affect his quality of play if it lingers.

Dallas Cowboys RB Joseph Randle (oblique) left practice early Thursday, Aug. 20.

Footballguys view: Getting clarity on this backfield is no easy task to begin with. Add in the injuries and running back by committee and this looks like a backfield to avoid. Randle had the most potential as an RB3, Darren McFadden looks more like a RB4 or RB5 and Lance Dunbar is no better than an RB6. It's a big mess and your best bet is to pick a poison and hope. We'd look for a better situation.

Cowboys | Dallas to use running-back-by-committee?    Thu Aug 20, 07:31 PM

Dallas Cowboys RB Darren McFadden hinted that the Cowboys will use a running-back-by-committee approach this season, mainly between he and RB Joseph Randle. 'You know the competitor in me definitely wants to be the No. 1 guy that goes out there. But at the same time, it's like, man, you know we're going to split carries. So whoever goes out there or goes out there second -- I just know whenever I do get a chance to get the ball in my hands, I'm going to go out there and go 110%,' McFadden said.

Footballguys view: It looked early on like Joseph Randle had the most potential and could be a low end RB2 or RB3, but this definitely clouds the issue. Darren McFadden looks more like a RB4 or RB5 and Lance Dunbar is no better than an RB6. While any back might be able to succeed behind this line, a committee gives us the chills. Unless you have a free roster spot for Randle, we'd avoid this potential mess.

RB Gus Johnson took the first-team snaps with Randle out. FB Tyler Clutts also played some tailback and scored a touchdown in practice.
