Giants | New York could add tight end    Thu Mar 3, 07:10 PM

Green Bay Packers impending free-agent TE Andrew Quarless and Indianapolis Colts impending free-agent TE Dwayne Allen could be on the New York Giants' radar this offseason.

Footballguys view: Neither Quarless nor Allen has really impressed so far, and given that the Giants are looking for a more dynamic pass catching tight end, you can imagine they won't be the only guys New York is looking at. If the options consist of these two, they might as well keep Larry Donnell.

Packers | Andrew Quarless not expected back    Thu Feb 4, 01:02 AM

Green Bay Packers impending free-agent TE Andrew Quarless is not expected back in 2016.

Footballguys view: Quarless had almost no impact this season so this is no surprise. The Packers like Richard Rodgers and will likely try to pick up a 'move' tight end in free agency or the draft.

Green Bay Packers TE Andrew Quarless (knee) was activated from the short-term Reserve/Injured list Monday, Dec. 21, and WR Ty Montgomery (ankle) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list in a corresponding move.

Footballguys view: Quarless is not much of an option as a pass-catcher, but he gives the team more depth behind starter Richard Rodgers.

Packers | Andrew Quarless joins team    Sat Aug 1, 10:15 AM

Green Bay Packers TE Andrew Quarless is participating in practice Saturday, Aug. 1, after missing the first two practices of training camp because of a family issue.

Footballguys view: Quarless is going to compete with Richard Rodgers for the starting tight end job. We've got Rodgers winning that battle, so fantasy owners don't have to monitor Quarless unless you play in deep dynasty leagues.

Packers | Andrew Quarless away from camp    Fri Jul 31, 10:09 AM

Green Bay Packers TE Andrew Quarless was absent from training camp again Friday, July 31, while he tends to a family matter.

Footballguys view: Richard Rodgers could have a chance to assert himself as the top tight end on the roster, but that is going to be a role that is no higher than 5th in the pecking order for Aaron Rodgers.

Packers | No word on Andrew Quarless yet    Thu Jul 30, 05:15 PM

Green Bay Packers TE Andrew Quarless has not reported to training camp, and the Packers still don't know when he will do so. Head coach Mike McCarthy said Quarless is dealing with a difficult family situation and that he'll be gone as long as he needs to be. Quarless was arrested and charged earlier this month for firing a gun, but that seems to be unrelated to his current situation.

Footballguys view: Fantasy owners will be looking elsewhere for tight end help. With Quarless away, it's just a chance for Richard Rodgers to get more time to showcase his talent.

Packers | Andrew Quarless likely not facing jail time    Tue Jul 14, 02:26 PM

Green Bay Packers TE Andrew Quarless probably won't be imprisoned since he was charged with a misdemeanor and not a felony. Quarless was arrested for discharging a firearm in public, but he said it was an act caused by drunken stupidity, not violence.

Footballguys view: Ah, the old "drunken stupidity" defense. It's not quite as effective as the Chewbacca defense, but it's close. Fantasy owners aren't dialed in on Quarless (nor should they be) even if he's starting over Richard Rodgers this season.

Packers | Richard Rodgers, Andrew Quarless to compete    Tue Jul 7, 12:57 PM

Green Bay Packers TEs Richard Rodgers and Andrew Quarless are expected to competer for the starting tight end job this year. Quarless caught 29 passes for 323 yards and three touchdowns in 2014. However, he could be subject to discipline under the league's personal conduct policy after being arrested over the weekend for discharging a firearm in public.

Footballguys view: Rodgers would have a chance to get a leg up on Quarless if he misses time early in the season due to a suspension, but chances are the tight end position for Green Bay will remain on the fringe of fantasy-relevant situations despite the high quality of the pass offense.

Packers | Andrew Quarless safe for now    Mon Jul 6, 07:27 PM

Green Bay Packers TE Andrew Quarless will not be released at this time even though he was arrested this past weekend for discharging a firearm in public, according to sources.

Footballguys view: 2014 third-round pick Richard Rodgers would be thrust into closer to a full-time role if Quarless is jettisoned. Rodgers seemed to have a chance to gain prominence if Randall Cobb walked in free agency, but Quarless being released would create a similar amount of additional opportunity and put Rodgers in the late-round sleeper TE tier.

Packers | Andrew Quarless arrested    Sat Jul 4, 01:41 PM

Green Bay Packers TE Andrew Quarless was arrested early Saturday, July 4, for allegedly firing a gun into the ground, according to police. Quarless supposedly was involved in a fight and fled the scene, but was apprehended. The tight end has been charged with discharging a firearm in public.

Footballguys view: That's not good. Quarless is facing up to a year in jail for the first-degree misdemeanor (in Florida). The league is going to take any arrest involving gun play quite seriously, so a suspension could be a possibility once the legal process has been exhausted. That might take some time, so Quarless could be okay--for now. Fantasy owners are avoiding the Green Bay tight end anyway, and this incident isn't going to improve his standing in fantasy circles.

Packers | Richard Rodgers to see more snaps?    Wed Jul 1, 04:53 PM

Green Bay Packers TE Richard Rodgers could see more playing time in 2015, according to Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com. Rodgers played 528 snaps, while fellow TE Andrew Quarless played 695 snaps. Demovsky said he wouldn't be surprised if those numbers reversed this season.

Footballguys view: Even if it is Rodgers that gets more snaps this year, the Packers tight end position will not produce a fantasy relevant option. The wide receivers will dominate targets, and the team has good enough depth to keep wide receiver primary if one of the starters goes down. Rodgers was a curious third pick last year considering that he is not much of a blocker or athlete as a pass catcher.

Packers | Andrew Quarless receives praise    Tue Jun 16, 02:40 PM

Green Bay Packers TE Andrew Quarless has made strides this offseason, according to QB Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers said he thought something clicked for Quarless late last season and he's ready to take the next step.

Footballguys view: Quarless has always been a somewhat rigid athlete and route runner. It sounds like he's improved his ability to make a difference on the field. We'll see him compete with Richard Rodgers for the top tight end position in Green Bay.

Packers | Andrew Quarless looking to improve    Thu Apr 16, 02:10 PM

Green Bay Packers TE Andrew Quarless said he has been working on improving his game this offseason and believes he can be a productive part of the offense. 'I consider myself the top echelon of tight ends,' Quarless said. 'That's really where I see myself and that's really where I'm trying to take it. A couple other guys like (Rob Gronkowski) and a couple guys who are up there. I put myself in that bracket. That's definitely where I'm training to be.'

Footballguys view: Quarless might be a little too excited about himself. He's athletic and talented, but has yet to show anything like "upper echelon" talent. We think he could be a solid TE2 for fantasy, and his ceiling is capped by the talented receivers on the roster.

Packers | Richard Rodgers starts    Sat Aug 16, 04:36 PM

Green Bay Packers TE Richard Rodgers started the team's second preseason game.

Packers | Competition for starting TE job wide open    Sat Jul 12, 11:47 AM

Green Bay Packers tight ends coach Jerry Fontenot said the competition for the starting tight end job will be wide open when training camp starts. 'I think we are pretty wide open at this point,' Fontenot said. 'I think guys have shown some progress, and those guys warrant a much bigger look. And I think once we get to training camp, we'll have an idea of a rotation, at least, and giving guys reps just to make sure they're ready to start the season.' TE Andrew Quarless may be the safest option to start at this point, but TE Richard Rodgers could start in the near future because of his performance during offseason workouts.

Footballguys view: Watch this competition closely in training camp. Rodgers has been getting some praise for his performance this offseason. He might be considered a favorite for the job at this time. Rodgers is a better option than the inconsistent Quarless.

Packers | Andrew Quarless' injury not serious    Thu Jul 10, 05:34 PM

The injury that caused Green Bay Packers TE Andrew Quarless (undisclosed) to miss the offseason workouts is not considered serious.

Footballguys view: There is a wide open race for starting tight end, and Quarless' athleticism is attractive. So far he hasn't practiced and rookie Richard Rodgers has been taking reps with the ones and that's who Quarless has to beat out right now. Brandon Bostick is also in the mix. None of them look like they will be fantasy starters though.

Packers | Richard Rodgers could be top candidate at TE    Sat Jun 21, 11:51 AM

Green Bay Packers TE Richard Rodgers could be the leading candidate for the starting tight end job entering training camp based on offseason workouts. Rodgers will show he can be an effective blocker if he wants to win the starting job. Rodgers received more reps during the offseason workouts, because TE Andrew Quarless (undisclosed) did not participate at all.

Footballguys view: Rodgers is an interesting name to remember if he does win the starting job. The rookie has been showing good chemistry with quarterback Aaron Rodgers (no relation) in minicamp. He flew under the radar in this draft class because he played in two different offensive systems during his time at Cal. Rodgers is an athletic move tight end who can create mismatches down the seam. Keep his name on your waiver wire speed dial. The Packers may have drafted a good one here.

Packers | Andrew Quarless has not practiced    Wed Jun 18, 02:53 PM

Green Bay Packers TE Andrew Quarless (undisclosed) has not practiced yet this offseason. He missed all of the 2012 season with a knee injury but played in every game in 2013.

Footballguys view: Basketball convert Brandon Bostick has also been banged up, so the Packers have a free for all at tight end right now. Third-round pick Richard Rodgers seemed like a reach to some, but the rookie could get some playing time early if the veterans aren't healthy.

Packers | Andrew Quarless top TE for now    Fri Apr 4, 09:32 PM

Green Bay Packers TE Andrew Quarless is considered the leading candidate to be the starting tight end in 2014 but could be beaten out by another player for the job.

Footballguys view: Quarless is has straight-line athleticism, but he's yet to do much as a pro. We could see the Packers add more talent at the tight end position in the 2014 NFL draft.

Packers | Andrew Quarless contract update    Thu Mar 13, 05:19 PM

Updating a previous story, Green Bay Packers TE Andrew Quarless will receive $3 million over two years, with a $350,000 signing bonus. His 2014 base salary is $800,000, and he'll be paid $1.3 million in base money for 2015. Quarless can earn $200,000 in per-game roster bonuses and $75,000 in workout bonus money.

Footballguys view: It's a cheap signing, and really shouldn't prevent the team from pursuing Owen Daniels if they want.

Packers | Andrew Quarless could have big role    Thu Mar 13, 02:33 PM

Green Bay Packers TE Andrew Quarless could have a full-time role as the starting tight end if the team doesn't re-sign TE Jermichael Finley. Quarless drew interest from seven other teams on the open market before re-signing with the Packers. Quarless posted career highs in catches (32), yards (312) and touchdowns (two) in 2013 and became the starter after Finley was injured Oct. 20.

Footballguys view: We'll see if the team gets Owen Daniels, but Quarless showed he could step up before, so this won't be a shock. You have to assume he likes his chances since he came back to Green Bay.

Packers | Andrew Quarless re-signed    Thu Mar 13, 02:01 PM

The Green Bay Packers have re-signed unrestricted free-agent TE Andrew Quarless (Packers) to an undisclosed contract.

Footballguys view: The Packers have a very thin collection of tight ends, and while Quarless flirted with a few other teams, he's a solid fit in Green Bay and could see a significant uptick in catches with Jermichael Finely likely gone.

Giants | Contact Andrew Quarless    Sun Mar 9, 11:42 PM

The New York Giants have expressed interest in free-agent TE Andrew Quarless (Packers). The Giants are one of seven teams that have contacted Quarless this weekend.

Footballguys view: The Giants need to find an answer at the tight end position. They were hurting last year after losing Martellus Bennett to the Bears. Quarless is athletic, but has yet to play up to his potential as a pro. New offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo worked with Quarless during their time together in Green Bay.

Packers | Jermichael Finley out at least 4-6 weeks    Tue Oct 22, 02:51 PM

Green Bay Packers TE Jermichael Finley (spine) is expected to be released from the hospital within the next 24 hours, but there remains no timetable for his return to action, and he'll likely miss at least four to six weeks, according to sources. Finley isn't likely to need surgery, and he should be able to resume his career. He could visit with more neurosurgeons and specialists regarding his spine injury. Doctors think his injury was caused by extreme torque and not by spinal compression.

Footballguys view: The Packer are going to be incredibly careful with Finley here. This type of injury is very delicate to deal with. There is still a possibility that the Packers place Finley on season-ending Injured Reserve if they don't want to risk bringing him back this season.

Packers | Jermichael Finley expendable    Mon Dec 17, 02:17 PM

The Green Bay Packers have plenty of tight ends returning next season, which will make TE Jermichael Finley expendable. TEs Brandon Bostick, Andrew Quarless, Tom Crabtree, Ryan Taylor and DJ Williams will all be back. Quarless and Williams are much more effective blockers than Finley, too, and head coach Mike McCarthy is hoping for a more formidable running game in 2013. Scouts say Finley still is impressive and is able to stretch the field, but he doesn't put fear in opposing defenses like he once did. 'But I didn't see him like a couple years ago where you worried about him all the time,' one personnel director said. 'I don't see that mismatch ability like I used to. Drops. Inconsistent routes. Not disciplined.'

Footballguys view: Finley would like to finish his career as a member of the Packers but we don't see that happening. We'd like to see more from DJ Williams here. He's not the tallest TE in the league but has good run after the catch ability and can create mismatches any time he's on the field.
