Eagles | Four RBs for one spot in Philly? Wed May 29, 02:48 AM
Philadelphia Eagles RBs Wendell Smallwood, Josh Adams, Boston Scott and Donnel Pumphrey are likely competing for the team's fourth and final backfield spot, in the opinion of NJ.com's Mike Kaye. The three likely locks are RBs Jordan Howard, Miles Sanders and Corey Clement.
Footballguys view: The Eagles have an interesting mix of the four backs likely competing for one spot. Adams is your classic banger who got some work for them last year down the stretch. Smallwood has the experience edge and is an all-purpose back who can be used as a runner or receiver out of the backfield. We'll see how this competition shakes out in training camp. |

Eagles | Donnel Pumphrey's spot in jeopardy? Thu May 9, 09:51 PM
Philadelphia Eagles RB Donnel Pumphrey is in danger of being left off the 53-man roster, according to Les Bowen of the Philadelphia Daily News.
Footballguys view: Pumphrey didn't look that different from Tarik Cohen when both were in college, but injuries and a poor rookie camp have held him back. Another team should look at him if the Eagles let him go because Pumphrey can also contribute in the return game. |

Eagles | Philly signs 10 to futures deals Mon Jan 14, 08:07 PM
The Philadelphia Eagles signed LB Asantay Brown, C Anthony Fabiano, OG Kaleb Johnson, CB Jeremiah McKinnon, WR Braxton Miller, WR Dorren Miller, DE Joe Ostman, RB Donnel Pumphrey, CB Chandon Sullivan and TE Will Tye to Reserve/Futures contracts Monday, Jan. 14. Terms of the contracts were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: Braxton Miller was a third-round pick of the Texans in the 2016 NFL draft but he failed to develop as a receiver. He's incredibly athletic and can be a weapon on offense. We'll stubbornly monitor him but only in super deep dynasty formats. Pumphrey and Tye are worth keeping an eye on in those leagues as well. |

Eagles | Donnel Pumphrey signs with Eagles Tue Oct 23, 01:56 PM
Free-agent RB Donnel Pumphrey (Eagles) signed with the Philadelphia Eagles' practice squad Thursday, Oct. 23.
Footballguys view: Pumphrey is back with the Eagles but on their practice squad this time. A fourth-round pick out of San Diego State in the 2017 NFL draft, Pumphrey missed his rookie season due to a hamstring injury. He failed to make the 53-man roster this year and was released. The Lions picked him up on their practice squad in September but he only lasted a few weeks there. |

Free-agent RB Donnel Pumphrey (Eagles) will sign with the Detroit Lions on Tuesday, Sept. 4, and will join the team's practice squad.
Footballguys view: Pumphrey gives the team a developmental scatback on the practice squad. Injuries derailed his career with the Eagles (after just one year), but the NCAA's all-time leading rusher is looking for a fresh start. |

Philadelphia Eagles RB Donnel Pumphrey was waived Saturday, Sept. 1, according to a source.

Eagles | Donnel Pumphrey full go Tue Aug 21, 03:39 PM
Philadelphia Eagles RB Donnel Pumphrey (hamstring) said he is back to full health and will practice later this week when the Eagles return from their Week 3 preseason game.
Footballguys view: Pumphrey needs to stay healthy to flash what he can do at the pro level. The second-year pro missed all of his rookie season in 2017 due to a hamstring injury. He was catching a ton of passes and turning heads earlier this offseason, but here he is again banged up with a hamstring. The FBS all-time leading rusher could make it as a change-of-pace back behind starter Jay Ajayi if he could stay healthy and impress. Pumphrey is on the roster bubble with only a couple of weeks left in August. |

Philadelphia Eagles RB Donnel Pumphrey 'looks like a different guy' and is the 'most improved guy in camp,' according to Reuben Frank of NBC Sports Philadelphia's Reuben Frank.
Footballguys view: Pumphrey is ahead of Wendell Smallwood and has a decent chance of making the roster as a long-term replacement for Darren Sproles, who the team might not have expected to be back this year after tearing an ACL last year. |

Eagles | Donnel Pumphrey faces uphill climb Sat May 19, 10:23 PM
Philadelphia Eagles RB Donnel Pumphrey (hamstring) missed the 2017 season with a torn hamstring and will be fighting for a roster spot this summer. NJ.com's Eliot Shorr-Parks believes it is silly to write off Pumphrey after just 26 preseason carries, because the 2017 rookie looked dynamic at times in practice and bulked up, per reports. Even still, Pumphrey faces an uphill battle to make the final roster.
Footballguys view: The FBS all-time leading rusher is only 179 pounds. Even if he's gained weight, Pumphrey simply lacks the body armor to hold up to the NFL beating. That being said, if he works as a part-time player then there's enough ability to be worth consideration. The Eagles are stacked at the running back position and that certainly hurts Pumphrey's chances of making the team. He can play slot receiver, so perhaps that extra bit of versatility will keep the 2017 fourth-round pick on the roster. |

Eagles | Donnel Pumphrey adding weight Sun Feb 11, 01:26 PM
Philadelphia Eagles RB Donnel Pumphrey currently weighs 185 pounds, which is up from the 177 pounds he was when he was drafted last offseason. Pumphrey said he hopes to reach 190 pounds later this offseason.
Footballguys view: Pumphrey is a small back, measuring in at 169 pounds at the Senior Bowl last year. If he can get to 190 it will help him take the punishment of the NFL. Pumphrey is dangerous with the ball in his hands as a runner or receiver out of the backfield. He'll work into the RB rotation with the Eagles like they used to use Darren Sproles. If healthy, Pumphrey could have flex appeal in PPR leagues due to his skill set and expected role. |

Philadelphia Eagles RB Donnel Pumphrey (hamstring) said he is '100 percent healed up' and ready for the 2018 season. 'You're going to see the versatile Donnel Pumphrey I once was and a stronger and faster back that can also do it on special teams,' he said.
Footballguys view: Pumphrey missed all of his rookie season with this hamstring injury. He's a dynamic player who can work as a change-of-pace weapon in space. He's working on adding weight this offseason in an effort to be more durable. |

Updating a previous report, the Philadelphia Eagles placed RB Donnel Pumphrey (hamstring) on the Reserve/Injured list on Friday, Sept. 15.
Footballguys view: A healthy scratch for the season opener, the Eagles fourth-round pick out of San Diego State tore his hamstring in practice this week. He could be designated to return, but it looks like the speedy rookie will be shut down for the year. He's the eventual replacement for Darren Sproles is Pumphrey stays healthy. |

Eagles | Donnel Pumphrey sits again Wed Aug 2, 11:27 PM
Philadelphia Eagles RB Donnel Pumphrey (hamstring) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Aug. 2.

Philadelphia Eagles RB Donnel Pumphrey (hamstring) is out of practice Tuesday, Aug. 1, with a hamstring injury.
Footballguys view: Pumphrey could have a larger role than some think in 2017. The change-of-pace back from San Diego State is being groomed to be the team's next Darren Sproles. He's going to compete for snaps with Sproles when battering ram LeGarrette Blount comes off the field on passing downs. |

Eagles | Corey Clement the odd man out? Sat Jul 1, 11:41 PM
Philadelphia Eagles RB Corey Clement is currently behind RB LeGarrette Blount, RB Darren Sproles, RB Wendell Smallwood and RB Donnel Pumphrey and is likely bound for the practice squad, according to Matt Lombardo of NJ Advance Media.
Footballguys view: Clement was picked up as a college free agent out of Wisconsin after the draft this year. At 220 pounds, Clement is not an overly powerful or instinctive runner. He instead prefers to jump cut his way through trash at the line of scrimmage. There were also questions about his work ethic and commitment to the game during his time with the Badgers. The Eagles are stacked at the RB position so it will be difficult for Clement to make the 53-man roster even if he impresses in training camp. |

Eagles | Donnel Pumphrey moved around during workouts Sat Jun 24, 04:15 PM
Philadelphia Eagles RB Donnel Pumphrey lined up at running back, wide receiver and slot receiver during offseason workouts because the team wanted to see if he could catch and what he could do in space.
Footballguys view: Pumphrey is dangerous in space and the Eagles are grooming him to be the eventual replacement to Darren Sproles. They'll have a package of plays in for him this year as a rookie, and his role will be limited by his size (170 pounds). |

Philadelphia Eagles RB Wendell Smallwood has seen noticeably fewer reps than RB Donnel Pumphrey during practice, according to Jimmy Kempski of PhillyVoice.com

Eagles | Donnel Pumphrey working with ones Tue Jun 13, 10:56 AM
Philadelphia Eagles RB Donnel Pumphrey continues to work with the first-team offense in camp, and the team is preparing him for a role in the offense.
Footballguys view: Pumphrey may be small (169 pounds) but the team is preparing packages of plays for the NCAA's all-time leading rusher. He'll work in a mix with Darren Sproles to provide a change-of-pace behind starter LeGarrette Blount. |

Eagles | Donnel Pumphrey's expected role Mon Jun 5, 09:23 AM
Philadelphia Eagles RB Donnel Pumphrey will finish his rookie season with more receiving than rushing yards, in the opinion of NJ Advance Media's Matt Lombardo.
Footballguys view: That's not outlandish to predict as Pumphrey is too small (170 pounds) to be a factor as a runner at the NFL level. He can work as a part-time player, but the team needs to get him in space. That's where his receiving ability can be highlighted. |

Philadelphia Eagles RB Donnel Pumphrey said he is seeing reps as a slot receiver, and head coach Doug Pederson said Pumphrey reminds him of RB Darren Sproles because of his versatility.

Philadelphia Eagles rookies CB Sidney Jones, Rasul Douglas, Mack Hollins, RB Donnel Pumphrey, Shelton Gibson, Nathan Gerry and Elijah Qualls signed their four-year rookie deals Thursday, May 11. Financial details were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: Pumphrey finished his college career at San Diego State as the all-time leading rusher in FBS history. He's small (measured in at 169 pounds at the Senior Bowl) and will have to be used as a change-of-pace back with the Eagles. Expect Pumphrey to get some looks as a returner as well. Footballguys view: Pumphrey is fast, but at only 169 pounds he's going to have to be limited with the way he's used. A change-of-pace back only at the NFL level, Pumphrey is a mid-round pick at best. |
