Footballguys view: The Cowboys have taken care of most of their stars but they still have to work out new contracts with Prescott and WR Amari Cooper. Prescott can play at a high level, just like he did in Week 1, and the team needs to lock down their franchise quarterback. The sooner, the better and it sounds like we are close to seeing Prescott being one of the highest paid in the league.

Cowboys | Other extensions not imminent in Big D?    Tue Aug 20, 06:19 PM

Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said Tuesday, Aug. 20, is doesn't feel like there's any real movement on contract extensions for QB Dak Prescott, RB Ezekiel Elliott or WR Amari Cooper, according to David Helman of DallasCowboys.com. Jones added things could move fast.

Footballguys view: The Cowboys have some big-money deals to hand out, and they are dragging their feet at this time...at least with these three players. On Tuesday, the Cowboys signed LB Jaylon Smith to a new five-year, $64 million extension. We'll see if there's movement on any of the 'big 3' in the near future.

Cowboys | Jerry Jones says contract talks could go into season    Tue Aug 13, 08:46 PM

Dallas Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones said Tuesday, Aug. 13, he's willing to continue contract negotiations with QB Dak Prescott, RB Ezekiel Elliott and WR Amari Cooper in the regular season.

Footballguys view: This is not what the players wanted to hear or what Fantasy GMs targeting these guys wanted to hear...specifically fantasy players who want Elliott in the first round. We'll continue to be optimistic in this situation on all three players, and hopefully something shakes out in the near future.

Cowboys | Dallas has made generous offers to Big Three    Tue Aug 6, 02:11 PM

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott, RB Ezekiel Elliott and WR Amari Cooper have each reportedly received a contract offer from the team that would put each one in the top five highest-paid players at their position in the league, according to NFL Network's Jane Slater.

Footballguys view: Top five at running back and quarterback isn't really that generous considering the lack of big contracts at running back and caliber of players who have the top five contracts at quarterback, so this is probably being put out there by the team to get the players to the negotiating table in the battle of public perception.

Cowboys | Dak Prescott not looking for team-friendly deal    Sat Jul 13, 11:58 AM

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott doesn't plan to give his team a hometown discount when it comes to negotiating a contract extension. He is entering the final season of his current contract but no deal appears to be imminent.

Footballguys view: Prescott doesn't need to settle for a hometown discount. He may not be the best quarterback in the league, but in the QB-desperate NFL Prescott will demand a premium price...and he'll get it. We could see Prescott get a deal that pays him nearly $30 million annually.

Cowboys | Dak Prescott, Dallas trending up?    Sun Jun 30, 02:00 PM

If Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott carries over his upward trajectory from the second half of the 2018 season and the postseason, the team's offense could reach the 'next level,' in the opinion of Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio.

Footballguys view: Prescott is already undervalued in fantasy leagues. If he takes another step with the help of a reinvigorated offensive line and additions to the passing game, along with Kellen Moore calling what will hopefully be a more creative offense, then he'll be one of the biggest hits of this year's quarterback picks.

Cowboys | Dak Prescott not close in extension talks    Sat Jun 8, 04:24 PM

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott has been talking to the Cowboys about a contract extension, but the two sides are not close at this point.

Footballguys view: Prescott is not worried about the negotiations and knows something will get done. Entering the final year of his rookie contract, reports have indicated the Cowboys have no problem paying him around $30 million annually. They may not be close at this point, but things have a way of getting done quickly when both sides feel there is a deadline. That might be the start of training camp or the start of the regular season in Prescott's case.

Cowboys | Dak Prescott makes counter proposal    Wed May 22, 04:34 PM

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott said his representatives have made a counter proposal after receiving an initial contract offer from the Cowboys. Prescott said he is not sure how close the two sides are at this point.

Footballguys view: They are going back and forth about a new deal and that's a good sign. We should see Prescott get a big-money deal in the near future. A fourth-round pick in the 2016 NFL draft, Prescott has impressed so much that the Cowboys are likely to pay him around $30 million annually. Fantasy GMs are taking Prescott off the board at QB20 (12.11) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Cowboys | Dak Prescott receives contract offer    Wed May 8, 02:44 PM

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott has received an initial contact extension offer from the Cowboys, and the team is waiting for his counter offer, according to sources. The two sides are not believed to be close to any deal.

Footballguys view: It's part of the negotiation process. The Cowboys are trying to pay him a fair price but not overpay him. Prescott is trying to make the most money possible. The number of $30 million annually has been tossed out there and could be around where Prescott's final number lands. Either way, we don't see Prescott's contract situation going on for too long. They're trying to hammer out the numbers now and should be able to come to an agreement.

Cowboys | Dak Prescott may approach $30M annually    Tue May 7, 12:15 PM

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott and the team are reportedly working toward a contract extension that will approach $30 million annually, if not more, according to a source.

Footballguys view: That sounds about right and most everyone (including the Cowboys) should have been expecting the number to be around $30 million annually. Prescott is in the final year of his rookie contract and we expect the Cowboys to get a deal done sometime before the start of the regular season. Fantasy GMs are currently taking Prescott off the board at QB23 (14.03) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Cowboys | New deal for Dak Prescott by Week 1?    Sat May 4, 05:34 PM

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott hopefully will sign a contract extension with the Cowboys before the start of the 2019 regular season, according to owner/general manager Jerry Jones and executive vice president Stephen Jones.

Footballguys view: Prescott was a fourth-round pick in the 2016 NFL draft so there is no fifth-year option for the young passer. Instead, he's in the final year of his rookie contract in 2019. His new deal won't make him the highest paid quarterback in the NFL, but Prescott should get quite the raise in the near future.

Cowboys | Dak Prescott may need to take less money    Mon Apr 8, 07:51 PM

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott is a candidate for a contract extension this offseason, but executive vice president Stephen Jones said Prescott likely will need to agree to a team-friendly extension so the team can build around him.

Footballguys view: Prescott isn't going to set the market at the quarterback position but he's set to get a huge pay raise from the Cowboys. They have a new deal with DE Demarcus Lawrence and now have to look into paying guys like Prescott and WR Amari Cooper. Jones said Prescott deserves to be paid fairly in his next contract.

Cowboys | No extension talks with Dak Prescott yet    Sat Mar 30, 01:16 PM

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott has not started contract extension talks with the Cowboys at this point, according to a source.

Footballguys view: The Cowboys will have to figure out a correct number for Prescott. He's performed inconsistently over the last two seasons but the team has indicated they will pay him top dollar. Prescott is in the final year of his rookie contract in 2019, set to make just over $2 million.

Cowboys | Dak Prescott's reps meet with organization    Sat Mar 2, 12:29 AM

The Dallas Cowboys and representatives for impending free-agent QB Dak Prescott met in Indianapolis at the NFL Scouting Combine looking to nail down a deal, or at least make progress on a new deal. He is expected to fetch at least $20 million per season.

Footballguys view: Prescott is in the final year of his rookie deal, so the Cowboys are trying to take care of his contract ASAP. A fourth-round pick out of Mississippi State in the 2016 NFL draft, Prescott has been an inconsistent starter for the Cowboys but they are clearly committed to him going forward. They'll continue to put more weapons around him, but they've got a great start with guys like RB Ezekiel Elliott and WR Amari Cooper.

Cowboys | Dallas to meet with Dak Prescott's agent    Wed Feb 27, 07:50 PM

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott's agent is scheduled to meet with the Dallas Cowboys this week to talk about Prescott's next contract.

Footballguys view: Prescott is in the final year of his rookie deal, so the Cowboys are trying to get out in front of this. He's been inconsistent during his young pro career, but this news indicates the Cowboys believe in Prescott. He won't break the bank, but Prescott should be highly paid as a starter in the not-too-distant future.

Cowboys | Does Dak Prescott really need to run more?    Sun Feb 10, 01:24 PM

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott ranked ninth among quarterbacks with 305 rushing yards in 2018, and many have clamored for Prescott to run even more. But Super Bowl history shows having a strong rushing QBs may not be the formula for ultimate team success. In 53 seasons, only three Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks have had 300-yard rushing seasons during their title-winning campaigns.

Footballguys view: Prescott has the ability to do more with his feet, but ultimately he's going to have to continue winning from the pocket. We'll see if the Cowboys work to put better weapons around him in 2019.

Cowboys | Dak Prescott seeking extension    Fri Feb 8, 12:58 PM

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott is seeking a contract extension this offseason as he enters the final year of his four-year rookie deal in 2019. 'I think the team knows how to pay what's deserved,' Prescott said last week before Super Bowl LIII, 'and pay those other people at the same time what's deserved without being frugal.'

Footballguys view: Prescott is set to get paid for 2020 and beyond. The Cowboys are in a playoff window with Prescott and they've got quality weapons around him like Ezekiel Elliott and Amari Cooper. We'll see if the team wants to get Prescott done sooner rather than later.

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott completed 20 of his 32 passes for 266 yards and a touchdown and rushed twice for three yards and another score in a 30-22 loss to the Los Angeles Rams in the divisional round Saturday, Jan. 12.

Footballguys view: Prescott couldn't make plays when the Cowboys needed them the most and didn't have the feel that typified his recent strong games. His arrow is still pointing up coming out of 2018.

Cowboys | Dak Prescott could rest Sunday    Fri Dec 28, 10:20 PM

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott said he would like to play against the New York Giants in Week 17 but acknowledged that he could be on a snap count.

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott has started all 13 games this season. If he starts the final three games in 2018 he would be the first quarterback in franchise history to start every game in three consecutive seasons.
